During that time my grandson was thriving in physical therapy. I recall his therapists Jessica and the other Kristen again he was thriving. During the first few week of Jan 2024, Kobe had been neglected By not being fed, Showered or being changed. The first incident of him not being fed, I asked the nurse and his technician, their response was they thought the night shift fed him. I made a report with the front desk who at the time was Miss Betty. She went on to tell me that this type of behavior was not tolerated. She asked me to fill out an incident report which I did, It was never addressed. Upon my grandson telling me he was being mistreated, I decided to stay Monday through Thursday his case manager Stephanie Carpenter knew of all the things my grandson was going through because I let it be known not only to Mrs. Carpenter but to the nurse manager Chris. Chris assured me that everything would be OK Well it was not Again I stayed Monday through Thursday because no technician was going into the room to check on my grandson nor to change him. I literally would sit back and wait to see how long it would take for someone to come rarely did anyone. I did I talked to the nurse manager Chris and I asked ,"are your technicians under the impression that because I'm in the room they don't have to come in and tend to him?" She responded, "Did you talk to them and ask them why? First of all it is not my job to tell your technicians what they're supposed to do My grandson had lost weight so mid January of 2024 they administered a picc line to feed him on his left arm. not knowing at the time they did not use sterile procedure .Fast forward he went from thriving to not being able to move, talk, open his mouth and unable to do any type of therapy w/Jessica Kristen and his speech therapist. made reference to they have no idea what happened to him as he was thriving His doctor did nothing to figure out what was going on other then to titrate his medications she either went up on milligrams or went down on milligrams but never did any blood work to figure out what was going on Weeks would go on and declined one particular night a tech came in James and he cussed out my grandson not caring that I was in the room we had words and I told Priscilla who was the night charge nurse he was not to come back to his room When I told Miss Carpenter she asked me to fill out an incident report and verbatim say what happened between James and i did on February 16th due to his decline and lack of care his nurse and his technician at that night Roxanne I Requested my grandson be discharged I had walked in on the nurse force feeding my grandson when I asked what she was doing she said I have to give him his meds and he wanted chocolate pudding I said to her how in the hell does he want chocolate pudding when he can't even eat she said he requested chocolate pudding my grandson only likes vanilla I asked them both to leave the room When James cussed us out and I did the incident report nothing was done Nurse manager Chris told me she could not get rid of him because she had to investigate that was never done upon discharging my grandson February 16th 2024 he would end up at the hospital in San Antonio at university after running test it's documented that he Had contracted gram positive and was sepsis The doctor went on to not only verbalize but to put in the report He got the infection via the PICC line administered at Texas Neural Rehabilitation Center I later called Mrs. Carpenter about his results of gram positive and corona virus She said no one at the facility was infected. lack of sterile procedure of his picc line led to sepsis due to the negligence of the nurses who managed his PICC line My grandson was on life support again and would be in the hospital for a month. After learning about the sepsis due to the PICC line I wrote a letter to the Health and Human Services Department to no avail They cited Texas Neural was doing everything they were supposed to do which is funny because they go during the day when they're fully staffed and not at night to see how technicians sit in rooms, empty rooms and watch TV call buttons are going off but they're watching TV or they're on their phones they're on social media I wrote a review back in August 25th of 2024 I'm praying that this review gets to the CEO Ed prettyman, Well I've seen many wonderful reviews It's unfortunate that we had a terrible experience what initially turned out to be great because of Jessica, Kirsten and his speech therapists Too many people knew what was going on including Stephanie Carpenter who Knew my grandson had been there two weeks and witnessed the neglect, but too afraid to advocate for her patients. Recovery Unplugged should get 10 stars out of 5! Their patience is unlimited and they work with…read moreyou from day one until after you get out of the program. The offer detox, residential, IOP, OP, and sober living as well as counseling. Not only do they integrate music into the program, they also accept any recovery program, so if you are not into AA or NA you can try Smart or The Buddhist approach, or a different modality. They don't care, as long as it fits you, and makes you better. I, personally, went with Refuge Recovery strictly in the beginning but attended a many AA meetings because of the scarcity of the Refuge meetings. Later I heard someone talking about step 4 in group and decided that was therapy and I needed it and went with AA and Refuge. At RU you are free to make your recovery path your own. The food at detox and IOP did leave something to be desired (but they are working on it) and the food at residential was fantastic! When you are in between residential and IOP they have you in a very comfortable house and give you a generous allowance to buy your own food. When you are in IOP you of course live on your own, or in sober living. RU's sober living homes are very nice, safe, and secure. You supply your own food and coffee but the house provides cleaning products, furnishings, dishes, cooking supply's, paper towels, etc... RU focuses on getting people better. They don't care what race you are, what religion you are, or are not, or what sexual orientation you are. Everyone is welcome! They emphasize community and communication. You learn so much here. Two things really stick out for me, one being that you don't have to go to treatment many, many times to recover (which I was convinced after the first rehab I was in was the case) and that maybe I should look into AA , and I'm truly happy I did. It's not the path everyone should take but it, along with Refuge fits me very well. The music component was awesome. I'm not musically talented and I can sing a little (but don't know how to play any instruments unless you call making a clarinet screech playing) but being around a group of people, some like me, but many that are well versed in the music business was fantastic! We had an amazing guitarist there that gave me my first guitar lessons who performed with many greats on the road and then gave up that life for something more stable that I am proud to now call my little brother, an amazing keyboardist that rocked the keyboard and has been playing since he was 7 years old, and a number of extremely talented people that either should be or will be stars someday. I had to go to the hospital for an epilepsy study while I was in IOP. Not only did my counselor check up with me to make sure I was ok, but also the staff at IOP and the Alumni staff checked with me and several of the new friends I have made at RU as well. I have seen near miracles happen here too. One of the girls that started the program after I did came in with a warn, resigned look on her face. She had been to treatment many times that year alone. Basically she went to treatment long enough to get a few good night sleep in, and some food, and then turned around and went out and used again. RU changed up her antidepressants and little by little she came to life. She did run away once but it was with another girl who promised her.drugs and a place to live when they got to that girls boyfriends car, the girl said to her boyfriend "oh, she just needs a ride". She realized at that point she'd be better off coming back to RU. After she got to IOP she stopped her indifference and uncaring attitude and actually started to participate in groups and she is now an inspiration to us all! If you have a substance abuse problem or an alcohol problem or know someone who does don't hesitate to come to Recovery Unplugged! The staff is caring, competent and well trained! They truly care!

The speech therapist at West Oaks was very patient, on the phone almost an hour as we did conference call to sisters bank to get sister to authenticate me. The Nurses have been patient with my calls asking them to walk to sisters room because she is unable to answer her cell phone in her condition. Adam the manager is friendly and runs a good ship.

For the prices they charge clients, you would at least expect some sense of security while at the facility. Floors are caving in as soon as you walk in. No A/C during family therapy and noticed holes in ceiling. I can only imagine the patients rooms which we are not allowed to see. Lots of parents complaining about their loved ones not receiving items brought to them. None of the staff could give a clear answer on the subject. City of Austin and state of Texas need to go inspect ASAP! Hazardous facility. Im sure the kitchen would probably get shut down if all else looks this disgusting.

I was admitted to St. David's Rehab Hospital's neuro floor in April 2025. I could not have asked…read morefor a better place to recover. I had been in ICU with a Guillain Barre diagnosis and was suffering from a large loss of sensitivity in my feet and hands, weakness everywhere, I had a trach in place to help with my breathing (had been on a ventilator for two weeks prior to that placement), and I was unable to lift my dominant arm making it difficult to do much of anything--getting dressed, brushing teeth, cleaning myself, etc. They took wonderful care of me and even made special accommodations for me to be able to bathe daily--difficult with a tracheostomy and generalized weakness. The SLP, Raya, was so helpful. She helped me learn to swallow again and speak better. PT was aggressive but I don't regret being pushed. In fact, they told me to rest more! OT, well let's just say, they were over the top helpful. They took special precautions to help me get to a shower--which I hadn't had in weeks (being immobile I did receive bed baths but I'm a REAL bath girl, LOL). I give them all the credit for helping me recover almost completely. I'm so grateful they accepted me directly from acute care. I highly recommend their services.

i was a patient at St David's Rehabilitation Hospital on 32nd Street after a 13 hour spine surgery…read morewith spinal fluid leakage and paralysis on my right side. I spent five days in the ICU. After several days inpatient at Ascension Seton during which I had large amounts of spinal fluid leaking through my bandages I was eager to get to St David's to begin my recovery. I had been to St David's Rehabilitation Hospital in 2022 with excellent recovery after cervical spine surgery and two weeks of physical therapy and delicious meals three times a day. I spent four to five hours a day in physical and occupational therapy. I wanted to recover with them after my difficult procedure. I was once again very happy with my rehabilitation. My doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and other staff couldn't have been more skillful, caring, and kind. Go here, if you want great care and excellent rehabilitation. You'll be very happy during and after your rehabilitation.
