Been coming here now for the BYOB nights on Wednesday for around 4 straight months and love this place; truly one of the rarer refuges for the old Austin vibe. Okay so we visited last night (September 8th) for adult's only night as team outing for our team at work. Overall, the place was great. Just the same as when I used to go when I was in High School. My only complaint is that the shorter girl who was working the concession stand seemed to have a grudge against literally everyone. I asked for an empty cup so that I could have some of the drink my friend brought and you'd think I had personally asked her to walk across hot coals. Several people in our group mentioned how rude she was (without me talking about it first) saying that they thought she didn't like them. One person in our group fell and hurt his wrist pretty bad and she wouldn't give him ice for it, so I had to give him one of the water bottles I'd bought earlier just to have something cold to help the swelling. Also, please get a DJ or just someone else to pick music, it could've been better. Now that one girl didn't ruin the whole night for us thankfully, but definitely made us feel unwanted. read more

Just came here for the first time and both of my skates and my boyfriends had screws sticking out of the soles which gave my boyfriend a humongous bruise within 20 minutes of skating. Not worth the 20 bucks we had to paid. read more

Pretty cool roller rink in south Austin. We went for adult night which is on Sunday's from 8pm-midnight, it's byob which is cool had I known that when I arrived. There was a DJ playing good music and it was cool due to the many fans and AC. We're not the best on skates but it was fun. I give 3.5 stars overall! read more

If you happen to go to Austin Roller Rink on your birthday, be certain that nobody in your group brings you a wrapped gift. That was our mistake today. They do not allow gifts because bringing gifts is akin to having a birthday party there without paying. Fine, I get it. They don't want customers toting birthday cakes, birthday hats, balloons, etc unless they pay to use the space set aside for birthday parties. Fair enough. The problem I have is the way the policy was communicated to us. The manager essentially said you need to put your gift in your car or you will be kicked out. We actually paid for a locker to hold the gift while we skated, but she wasn't satisfied with that. We complied with her order, but we will not return nor will our friends. I recently went to Austin Roller Rink on a Monday night (yesterday) and was quite disappointed. The snack bar was closed, all the games were unplugged (we had to plug them in to play). I had friends coming to meet me.... and the guys who were supposed to be manning the skate rental desk and the cashier desk were both gone playing air hockey. My friends were about to go behind the desk and get their own skates... but they opted to do the right thing and disrupt the workes playing air hockey. There was no water fountain ...which kind of sucks when you are skating and get tired or thirsty - couldnt even buy a drink as they snack shop was closed. The floor wasn't a real roller rink floor - almost more like treated concrete - (i think the place used to be an auto body shop?) and there is a basket ball hoop on the skate floor.... do they use it to play basketball??? I dont know. Mondays is also supposed to be an adult night - but there were definately some show off teens there that scared me as they whizzed by and showed the place they could skate backwards and weave in and out of "traffic". This place could be nice with alot of work put into it. But guess bottom line is I will never know - b/c I will never be back. sucks b/c it was my bday we were trying to celebrate. bleh. read more

So I got dragged into this place recently with some friends, and I wasnt to impressed. As far as I am concerned, a good skateing rink should have a wood floor. This place has some textured stuff, that doesnt really help much when you take a spill. Thats the nice thing about wood, it can absorb a lot of impact, which means less bruises for the inexperienced!! Maybe i am just a lowsy skater, or need a little more practice, but this place really didnt do it for me. read more

I brought my 6 year old here to teach her how to skate. I kept my shoes on to help her learn. After going around once, a worker came up to us and said we couldn't be out on the rink since I had shoes on. I told him I wasn't a good skater and was trying to help my daughter learn. He said we could practice along the wall. Fine. We go to the wall and after going around one time, my daughter felt confident enough to let go of my hand. She was one foot in front of me, at the wall, and another employee came up to say that I couldn't be out on the rink unless I was holding her hand. I asked him how she is supposed to learn (since they don't provide the training device for kids, because according to the manager adults complain about them) and he just shrugged his shoulders and skated away. Not family friendly at all. The rink up in North Austin is much better in all aspects. read more

Other people have said that this place is like it is straight out of Dazed and Confused, and they are correct. What a hole in the wall skate place. But love the incredible price - cheapest day of fun I can have with my kids - they love it. The floors are all beat up. And it's incredibly hot in there. The wheels on the skates are horrible. But for $8 each, it's okay. And great hipster music. Huge fan of the music here. I was pleased. read more

This was my first time visiting Austin Roller Rink. First of all, it's horribly hard to find with no signage and no street name. I went for a birthday party on a Wednesday night. I just wanted to say hello to my friends who I haven't seen in a while and stay for an hour. I had to pay $5.00 just to walk in the door and sit with my friends. Seriously? $5.00 for a cover fee? A few girl friends and I went on Monday night--adult skate night. Prices were all reasonable, no trouble parking, a farly decent turn out considering how new it is and who really says, "Let's go rollerskate!" on a Monday night... We all agreed it would have been perfect had they had a margarita machine! They do have a little snack bar and the skates and facility were nice, clean and organized. read more

Very clean and everything is brand new right now. There is no handrail or anything for the kids to grip on though if they are learning to skate. My 5 year old had a good time. We paid $5 for the afternoon which I felt was a good deal but I think their normal rate is $8 which I find to be a bit much because my child probably won't last longer than one hour or one and a half hours top. I looked at their birthday parties too and they seemed a bit pricey for 10 kids. I think if they made $5 their standard price and worked on their birthday party pricing, it is a great place to take the kids for the afternoon. read more

Beth, the manager quoted me a price of $5 per ticket if there was 20 or more people a week before our group was to show up. When my guests arrived that Saturday, Beth informed my group that Austin Roller Rink would not honor the $5 per ticket quoted. The owner had decided that the $5 would not apply even though we had over 20 people. This is bad business practice and poor customer service. The honorable thing for the business to do was to honor the price they quoted. Dishonest. So be warned. I suggest customers record their conversation for large groups. I shall be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Not a happy customer. read more

It was my first time at Austin Roller Rink for a friends birthday. Super surprised at the price to get in first of all, then the fact that is byob is another surprising fact because you can bring whatever you want! The staff was super friendly, especially the manager who took a lot of pride in her work place. Everyone had a great time, even though we aren't very advanced skaters. Adult night was nearly empty except for our group. $5 is a bargain. The music was great! Typical Spazmatics type music. The staff was very attentive. They didn't seem to have many rules. I'm a roller-skating enthusiast, and this is the first Austin rink I visited in town (it's definitely the closest one to my apartment). While it isn't my beloved Skating Plus (in Ventura, CA) -- I too prefer wooden floors -- I had a great time. I liked that they had teenagers working there; they were pretty helpful, and are pretty good skaters to boot. The biggest drawback to me is the lack of air conditioning... you definitely feel like you've gotten a big workout when you leave this rink. The rink floor here is jacked- uneven wavy hard concrete, deep pitting, waves, bumps, holes, missing pieces, really dirty (trash, candy, gum). Not safe or easy to roll on. That being said, I went there with the intention of learning how to skate on concrete outdoors and it was perfect for that. It's like sidewalk/street skating but indoors and a little safer if you are trying to practice on a new surface. read more

First off there is not much of a rink to begin with and what skating surface is there is lumpy old tile. There is not much room so if anyone did show up it will get crowded quickly. There were not employees on the floor so anything goes on the rink floor; kids laying around looking on their phones, parents standing around on the rink floor. Let's just say that skaters do not have the ride of way on the skating rink floor. I paid for the birthday party package #2. Party package #2 is said (on their website ) to include pizza, drinks, a party room, and includes a party assistant. The party assistant was no where to be found and when I finally managed to locate her, it was clear that she was extremely high on methamphetamine. Definitely not the person I wanted assisting with a birthday party! Finally, I went looking for a manager and found the owner. He was Rude and encouraged his employees to have a smart mouth with customers, yes including myself. I witnessed this attitude with every other customer he encountered. When I ask him about the assistant that is advertised on his website I was informed that she had checked on me twice. I guess I just expected more than a drug addict looking in the party room twice and not speaking to anyone. It is by far the worst in customer service and I have seen better portable wooden roller rinks! read more

We just celebrated our daughter's 8th birthday here and everybody had a great time. The prices were reasonable and the staff was extremely accommodating. It was mostly kids when we were there, which I imagine may be frustrating for more experienced skaters, but for us novices (adults and children alike), it was great to have a place to go. At other rinks, I've encountered a lot of show-offs who have complete control of themselves, but end up tripping the rest of us up. No worries about that here! read more

I went to the Austin Roller Rink with my little brother, and we had a blast! I don't know how long it's been since I have roller skated. I remember when I was in Junior High and all my friends and I would go skating. My nephew recently had a birthay party there and I think the pricing was reasonable for how much fun they had.The second time I went, I brought my old skates and...well the rental skates went faster! Honestly I'm glad they don't have metal railings there because say if my nephew was there (he's no better than me...and I have as much balance as a dog does on one foot) becaues if he fell his precious little head would hit the railing. And for beginners (like me) they have carpet so you can get the hang of being in rollerskates. All of the employees are very polite and responsible. had a horrible experience w/my daughter's bday party. The boys upfront did not want to get the prior party out so that we could start ours on time. They just sat there at the front looking at us like we were idiots!!! The boys at the skate booth told us that they did not know how to tighten the skates so we were out of luck and if the kids did not know how to skate there was nothing that they could do for us. My friend had to grap the wrench of the counter and adjust the skates for our party as well as others around just needing the same service. If these boys did not want to work, then why are they even there????? It felt like there was no supervision over these boys and we (the paying customers) had to just deal with the extremely poor customer service! read more

The young lady, who described herself as the manager and owner's daughter, would not even let me look at the place, under the guise of there being a privat party at the place. We went on family night and stayed only 45 minutes. This place has tweens, teens, young adults for their employees. They behaved horribly and took over the roller rink. I could not believe the behavior of these employees. It was RIDICULOUS!!! Seriously, I'm all about putting teenagers and young adults to work, but someone needs to teach them how to behave on the job (don't wrestle in the middle of the floor, don't SCREAM or YELL across the whole lobby for 45 minutes straight, stop changing the music everytime you don't like what's playing, & please don't take over the roller rink, other people want to skate too). Yes, these were all employees. OWNERS of Austin Roller Rink, you need to have supervision of your teen employees. The young adults aren't doing the job. They are a terrible neighbor. I live nearby and the music is so loud on "Adult Night" it shakes my home until 12:30 at night. Complaints have been filed and will continue until something is done. I think roller skating can be enjoyable without blasting loud music after 9:00PM. read more

There was no AC in the middle of the summer! We went and told management twice and they said it was on and didn't really care to do anything about it. There were no assistive tools for the little ones that don't know how to roller skate. The restrooms were super dirty and there was no toilet paper. I went with a group of friends who normally go to adult night at Playland Skate. Though this place is closer to my house and less crowded, I much rather drive further and and fight the crowd at Playland. First of all, Monday nights are supposed to be adult night here, but they use the term lightly as teenagers work there and the son (around 10 to 12 years old) of the owner has free reign of the rink at all times. He is a very good skater, but was bouncing a beach ball around the very small grooved rink and racing with the teenagers. A note to owner: I go to adult night for a reason, so keep your son and the teenagers at home on Monday nights. The grooved concrete rink was very small and I started feeling nauseous from the vibrations and constantly turning. The a/c is lacking. They have huge industrial fans, and a/c in the lobby, but it didn't help much with the very hot rink. They do not have a professional dj or sound system. The teenage workers and the owner would switch songs in the middle if they didn't like what was playing. My friends and I want to give this place another chance, but that kid throwing the beach ball might want to stay clear of me or he may be surgically removing it from his body. read more

I have no idea why this place is even open. This place looks like it is an old gutted out mini-storage. They do not have any A/C at all in the rink area...only industrial fans blowing 97+ degree air around...and because of that the A/C in the consession area doesn't work very well either because all of the hot air comes in from the rink. When you ask the teenagers working the rink if they have A/C in the rink, they say yes, but there is no A/C...only fans. I guess they don't understand what an A/C system is or how an A/C system works and they just meant they turned the fans on. Unfortunately fans alone won't cool a room down in an uninsulated Texas building in the middle of summer. There is not even any air duct in the rink at all. We just had a birthday party there and some of the kids did not even want to skate becasue it was so hot. All of the adults were sweating and it was rather miserable. If you are going skating in the summer, I would highly recommend finding a location that actually has A/C or be prepared to skate in a sauna. read more

We have tried this place twice. It is sad! I loved skating as a kid and wanted to introduce my kids to the fun. We live in San Marcos and no longer have a rink nearby, so we tried the closest one. The place seems to be "run" by kids, or just punks that have been hanging out there too long and think they do. No sign of "management" whatsoever. The Austin Roller RInk is FAR from professional, so if you are trying to keep your kids safe, I would definitely NOT try this rink. Since skating is hard for children to master the first few times, it would be helpful if their staff tried to control the floor by helping people to get up and off the floor when they fall. Or possibly even step it up a notch, and TEACH the kids how to fall, or at least try to make sure everyone skates in the same direction to avoid collisions! After trying to stay sane, I just couldn't take it any more when two of the "helpers"started playing catch on the rink with a tennis ball!! Needless to say, it was rolling all over the floor with 5 and 6 year old trying to dodge it. Sure enough, it gets stuck under my daughters skate, and what do you think might have happened? Funny how no one ever saw any danger in this activity. Unfortunately, it gets worse. About 10 minutes later 6 or 7 of the staff went out on the floor - while all of the paying customers were still skating - and started breaking cascarones on each others heads and laughing hysterically!! It would be much funnier to see this place get sued. Completely RIDICULOUS! Drive a bit further so you can save the visit to the ER on the way home. read more
