Had my transmission rebuilt on my 2015 Town and Country by Austin. Lasted just two years and less than 40,000 miles, costed us $3,500. I've made a number of transmissions rebuild over the years and NEVER had one fail again in under 200,000 miles. These guys are either bad at what they do or are using inferior parts. It doesn't matter which. Take your transmission repair elsewhere. It will save your hard earned money. read more

This is our third transmission in our family with this company in less than two years. They never called back. Their estimates are way off. They keep your cars for weeks. My car is now been there for four weeks. No one returned my calls. In one instance they told us our car would be 1500 and it ended up being 3300. Our last car they said it was going to between 1000 and 1100 and then called and said 4400 and when we picked it up they said 5800. After four weeks! That was at the rock Hill location. Now at this location they've had my car nearly a month. They keep saying they're making "free repairs "the estimate has already gone up. From just a couple hundred dollars to $3400- at this point I'm afraid to pick it up! Ron says he's going to call back promises things and then just never does. All the previous reviews that I see here are accurate. I just wish I would've read them before I took my cars here! read more

Yea so upon further inspection of just jacking up the car. One look at the front motor mount and low and behold..... loose. Figured guys with experience would know to check all mounts if a drivetrain is vibrating itself to death. Take ur vehicle somewhere else. read more

Needed our transmission repair ed and they were close by. Should have read the reviews first! First they needed $500 to buy parts, then it took 3 weeks to partially rebuild the granny when they said 1-1/2 weeks at first. Then 1 week after they were done the screws on the torque converter flew off, hitting the flywheel and causing damage. Don't take your car here, it will end badly!!! read more

Austin Transmission offered us only a 6 month, 6K mile warranty on a manual transmission overhaul. It wasn't until after we had trouble that we realized this was a much lower warranty than other shops in the industry. It took over 2 months to rebuild the transmission, with non-existent communication. Ron was always "with a customer" when we called and he did not return calls. The only time we spoke with him was when we either stopped by in person or happened to catch him answering the phone. After just a little over a year and 9k miles later, the transmission started making a horrible noise. The initial diagnosis was that the transmission was making metal and needs to be opened back up. Speaking to Ron face-to-face, he agreed that it would take severe abuse for the transmission to be in this shape and needing repair. Despite this acknowledgement, Austin Transmission would still not stand by their work nor service. We took our car to another shop where they questioned whether the parts were actually replaced initially. Their findings were: "Looks a little rough inside. Looks like the shafts were not properly shimmed when it was put together resulting in improper clearances and the pre-mature failure". In a normal car, in a normal situation, there is no way a manual transmission should only last 9k miles, as we were reassured by multiple other shops. We were very disappointed in Austin Transmission and will not be back nor recommending them to anyone else. read more

Ron was very knowledgeable, they rebuilt two different cars for me now, both times no issues. My 2008 Ford Escape and my 2010 VW Routan. The turn around time was 2 weeks faster than the time frame at AAMCO, and the price was not only less but with warranty far better after shopping around to compare warranties and prices. read more

1 star is far more than Austins Transmissions deserves. I had to have my trucks (Ram 2500) transmission rebuilt June 2022 and unfortunately Austin's transmission was the only shop that could get it in right away. I needed this problem fixed ASAP as I use this truck for personal and work needs. Long story short, the "rebuilt" transmission that cost me nearly $5,500 was having the exact same issues that caused me to initially bring it in. Still under their "repair" warranty I took it back to have them actually fix the issue I originally paid them to fix. The next day I called to ask the progress and Ron said they couldn't find anything wrong with it, that I needed to bring a trailer up to attach to the truck. I had to get a ride back up to the shop (35 min away), get the truck, come back home and hook my trailer to it, then take it back up to them and drive them around in it proving it was malfunctioning. Wasted my whole Friday. Over 4 weeks later and countless "I'll call you backs" from Ron (without a call back from him, ever. At this point my patience is out), and I was always getting the runaround of why it's not fixed yet, is completely unacceptable. This should've been a priority to fix, since nearly $5,500 was already paid to have it fixed and it wasn't fixed. I asked if this would start the warranty over since the original problem was NEVER fixed, Ron was quick to tell me no, that's not how it works. Back and forth with him over this, he said he'd ask the office if I could get an additional two weeks warranty. That is not good enough. Again being told I'd get a call back, I never did. Finally called them this morning asking if he's heard from the office, and as I expected he said no. I asked for the offices phone number and he refused to give it to me. I asked for a location so I could stop in and talk to someone, he refused. This company is an absolute JOKE, Ron is a joke, integrity and customer satisfaction means absolutely nothing to them. Because I use this truck for work and I'm out thousands of dollars more because of their incompetence. DO NOT waste your hard earned money or much valuable time with these scammers, they will not fix any issue your vehicle is having. read more

Incompetent crooks who talk a good game with no follow through. Worst experience at a mechanic shop I've ever had. I brought my van into the Lemay Ferry location because my transmission was shifting weird. They apparently took my transmission apart and told me it was going to cost over 3k to do the repairs. In the meantime I found another place that totally rebuilds them for about half that but now that everything is taken apart im kinda stuck with these guys so I find a used tranny at a junk yard and have them put it in and it ends up costing me a little over 2k. I get it back and it's still doing the same exact irregular shifting. I have a diagnostic code reader and eventually it triggers the code PO720 which is an output speed sensor malfunction. I bring it back to them and tell them about the code. They completely overlooked and disregarded the sensor and proceed to take my transmission apart again. Charge me another $572 and I still have the same problem. So I say screw it and take it to the dealership. They immediately identified the problem and replaced the speed sensor for $350 and I was in and out in the same day. My dealings with Austin Transmission were so drawn out and frustrating I would not recommend them to anybody. I got sold a lemon by Weiss Toyota and they would not take back the car (after only 3 weeks of driving it off their lot) so I was left no choice but to get it fixed. I went to Austin Transmission and glad I did. Ron was helpful and open from the start. I had to have the transmission rebuilt and 2 years later it's still going strong. Ron listened to the problems I had with my car and suggested that we try topping off fluid. And yes, that fixed all of the problems, under $100! In October of 2012, I heard a funny knocking in my 2005 MINI Cooper. I had it towed to Austin Transmission located at 2715 Lemay Ferry Road, 63125. They informed me that they think the transmission is bad. They would not know how bad it is without pulling the transmission. I was told just to pull the transmission would be about $1500. I agreed. They ended up telling me that the transmission, bearings, clutch assembly were all bad. Long story short; they "rebuilt" my whole transmission which all cost me about $4000. When I get the car back, I was informed that I would still hear a little noise because of some plate that they said I did not need to replace as it would not have an adverse affect if I didn't. It would save me about $700-$800. I picked up the car and all seem to be going ok. After about a month, I began to hear the noise that they were referring to. Although I could not hear it under normal conditions (radio being on or having the windows down) I went back anyway and they said that is ok. A couple more months went by and the noise seemed to be getting louder. I went back again only for them to tell me AGAIN, its ok. Month five came along and I am now hearing this noise over the radio. I went back a third time and left the car with them. "Ron" told me that I needed a special additive from MINI to add to the transmission as the bearings need a special lubricant. I told him that I would like to have a thorough check as this was still under warranty. He immediately informed me that it was no longer under warranty because I has gone over the miles. (6 month/6000 mile warranty). (It was the beginning of the 5th month and I was at 6213 miles). I asked him if he were kidding? This is how you stand behind your work. I just spent $4000 less than 6 months ago and in so many words, their telling me that it's my problem. The exact says noise that I had the car brought to them for is the same noise I am hearing now. I took the car to a certified BMW/MINI repair shop. They informed me that the transmission is shot. They are not sure what I spent almost $4000 on when a certified MINI transmission from the dealer is $2100. Not to mention that after only 6 months the transmission is bad...again. So now, not only am I out of nearly $4000 but my car is right where it was a year ago. I do not recommend this place to even the worst of my enemies. They don't stand behind their work and they are as crooked as snakes. read more

I too had an experience similar to Jon H. We took our car to Austin Transmission located at 2715 Lemay Ferry Road, 63125. The vehicle would make a loud bang noise when accelerating. I was told they would have to take apart the transmission, but they believed that they could fix it for about $500. They kept the car for several days due to the fact that they were still having the same issues the car was brought in for after making repairs. The technician told me that he was Googling the problem to try and determine a solution. Finally after keeping the car for several days he gave up and said that he could not figure out what was causing the knocking. I was charged $575 ($400 labor and $175 parts). He said that he did fix a bad mount. Problem is that when I got the car back it was knocking worse than when they received it. In my opinion, Austin Transmission does not stand behind their work and are not reputable. Would not use unless you have money to burn. read more
