My family and I have been loyal customers of Krause's Homemade Candy for many years. We've bought…read morechocolates for ourselves, holidays, and gifts, and visiting Krause's has always been a tradition whenever I returned to New York after living in Florida. In fact, it was the very first stop my husband and I made because I couldn't wait to enjoy my favorite chocolates again. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. The first thing I noticed was the new logo and packaging. While I know businesses evolve, the new design loses the classic, elegant feel that made Krause's so special and instead looks much more generic. More importantly, the chocolates themselves are not the same. Many of the pieces are noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the chocolate tastes different. Several pieces even had bloom, which affected both their appearance and texture. I purchased a variety of chocolates, including individual pieces from the display case, chocolate bars, and peppermint patties, and every product seemed to reflect a decline in quality. To make matters worse, many of my longtime favorite pieces were no longer available. I've happily recommended Krause's for years because it consistently offered some of the best homemade chocolates in the Capital Region. This time, however, I left feeling disappointed and honestly saddened. I truly hope the owners will consider returning to the quality, recipes, and traditions that built Krause's outstanding reputation, because many longtime customers remember how exceptional their chocolates used to be.

They're allowed to free roam and are hormone free. There is a small parking lot and the chocolate shop is very intimate and cozy. The employees were friendly too. You're able to peak into the dairy barn and see the cows too. There are a variety of chocolates to choose from; from truffles, chocolate bars, caramel, and more. They have won multiple awards for their chocolate. They also offer private tours and chocolate tastings. I purchased a box of 9 assorted chocolates and two white chocolate lollipops. The chocolates were expensive but worth it. They tasted fresh and creamy, up there with the best chocolates I've had. I highly recommend a visit!

It was my first time visiting, and I had a few questions, but I didn't feel welcomed or encouraged to ask them. The older woman working there didn't make me feel welcome. She was very kind and attentive to the customer in front of me, but I didn't receive the same level of service. It left me feeling uncomfortable and overlooked. I can't say for certain whether race played a role, but the difference in how I was treated made me question it. I hope every customer, especially first-time visitors, is treated with the same kindness, respect, and willingness to help.

What could be better than to take a tour at this fabulous chocolate shop about an hour north of Saratoga Springs? We paid for the ghost tour and chocolate making experience ahead of time and it turned out that we were the only ones there, so it was a private event for us. Score!! The ghost stories and "tour" were fun and interesting. FYI- there's not really any walking around during the tour; there's seating in a small section of the house to hear about the different sightings and such. Making the chocolate ghost molds were a lot of fun and buying large quantities of Barkeaters absolutely delicious chocolates were perhaps the best part of the whole experience. If you're interested in trying something different, one of the flavors of chocolate "barks" is a chili lime dark chocolate. I think that one is my absolute favorite with a close second being the espresso dark chocolate. The chili lime starts with the deep chocolate flavor and lime....followed by a perfect buzz of chili. It's dangerously addictive. There are lots of different flavors of truffles (we snagged a box of 24 assorted!) and chocolate bars that are all absolutely wonderful. Super nice staff/owners.... I can see this would be a great place to visit in the fall and closer to Halloween.
