You truly feel…read morelike a San Diegan, getting your workout with most elite equipment, overlooking the ocean, then hitting the sauna or cold plunge while listening to the ocean waves. It doesn't end there, if you're there around lunch time, you can get yourself a delicious smoothie, power bowl or a margarita while soaking in the sun, sitting under a cabana or a beach chair. Literally does not get any better. Everytime I hit the gym feels like vacation. I love their classes, access to the plunge pools and all their amenities like eucalyptus cool towels. Conveniently located on First Street and accessible 24 hours, the gym is clean and well-maintained. Occupying the entire ground floor of a building, it has a feeling of spaciousness about it. Doors that open to the small patio area, along with ceiling fans, enable good air circulation throughout the space. Fellow gym-goers are friendly and always willing to engage when you approach them about routines or exercises. No attitude at this place whatsoever. People are genuinely happy to share their successes and reflections on their own self-journeys to fitness, which makes the gym feel like not only a place the place where you can go to work out, but also a place where you can continually learn from other gym enthusiasts about ways to improve your own focus on physical improvement. A sense of a community among people with a common interest in health and fitness, and a willingness to share it, are two of of the most unique and notable characteristics of this gym. The owner, Keith Deidrich, pays meticulous attention to the gym's layout and functionality, resulting in a nice rotation of machines and weights throughout the space. It's exciting to come in to find a new machine, such as the very impressive cable crossover set up, complete with high bars for dead-hangs and pull-ups, or a one-of-a-kind lat pull-over machine that requires the force of your elbows, placed on pads and pushing down, to accomplish the exercise. It's like a squat machine for the upper body. In addition to the machines and freeweights, the gym has add-on weight blocks in gradations of two-and-a-half pounds that are custom-made to be inserted on top of the machine pulley racks to increase the resistance in smaller increments when the built-in 10- or 15-pound increases are too much of a step-up. Being able to use these blocks has enabled me to slowly increase the amount I'm lifting without making a jump up to a higher weight that is just too heavy. And there are plenty of cardio machines as well. In short, this neighborhood-centered gym with its relaxed vibe, excellent equipment, and friendly and respectful members makes working out a highlight of my daily schedule.

I moved to Carlsbad and still look forward to making my trip twice a week to train here. It's been…read morea little over 8 months, and Mia, Fernando, and Will have changed my life. But it's thanks to Justin's leadership the entire team inspires me, whether I'm hearing other trainers across the gym or chatting at the front desk, or moved just a bit extra by daily quotes on the whiteboard. Every hard rep is celebrated with high fives and every day I'm not training, the staff is working hard on my nutrition, my growth, and adjustments for chronic pain. John was there to hear *all* my concerns my very first day, top of which was that I've been recovering from an eating disorder since 2012 and had been fearful of training because of triggering language or incentive. John briefed the whole team for me, and 8 months in I've never once had to explain myself or course correct. They got me, they push me, they celebrate with me, and see me as a person they're really invested in. It's obvious that same level of energy and investment carries to all their clients. Today I feel strong, excited, powerful, and healthy. I fit my jeans again, I'm eating better food, and I'm still completely removed from bad habits, all because the iron orr team carries that weight (and counts for me every rep! ;) ) I've come to love them all as friends and members of a big San Diego community and I'm going to train there the rest of my life, on my way to becoming a ripped grandma.

The gym is great probably when it is not crowded and different clientele. If you don't mind that vibe then this gym is your place! Parking was filled, no street parking. Losing a big portion of my fitness was very mentally challenging, so I started off training with her to get back into a routine. Prior to that, I had been "working out" for many years, and following a more structured program for 1-2 years. I would say I am moderately educated about training and nutrition, but Cory still provides a HUGE value and expertise that will push your training to the next level. Coming from a science background, I especially appreciate that Cory is very evidence driven in everything she recommends, from taking note on progress to diet recommendations. I never feel like I am wasting my time. She really helps you narrow down what tweaks you can make to achieve your goals in a very realistic, sustainable way. Personally, my goals were improving overall fitness along with some aesthetic progression. Cory has done a great job guiding me to achieve this. There were some workouts I had been doing for years and was doing alright but never quite felt it in the muscle like I was supposed to. Cory really knows the right cues to help you develop your mind muscle connection and you will definitely feel and see the difference. On top of that, my workouts with her are much more efficient than my workouts alone because the set up is so quick so you will get great results and spend less time working out.
