I read recently that film cameras are making a comeback. I love it! There was always something magical and exciting about opening up your package of photos. But anyway, someone had jammed a memory card into the Nikon SLR and broke it. No amount of YouTubing could fix it. I was told about Authorized Photo Service in Morton Grove. It is pricey to fix, but this location is local, instead of sending it to a faraway place. I picked it up after a few weeks and it was clean, nicely packed. I had my canon camera lens repaired here towards the end of last year. Of which I have them ample time to repair it before going on a photo trip. Needless to say that the lens was not fixed in time until I was literally flying back from my trip. I had only used the lens 2 times after that and immediately my camera gave me an error 01 lens communication. I took it to my regular repair guy and spend more money to get it fixed properly. According to him this placed did not use the correct part. Too expensive here and incredibly disappointed, wish I could get my money back. read more

If you are a professional, don't use this service and send your lens or camera to Nikon for repair instead. APS will use cobbled together parts to repair your camera, as Nikon stopped supplying new parts to service centers (which all camera manufacturers have done also). I chose to repair with them in-person as I am local but the quality control is terrible here, probably due to their repair volume. I brought in a Nikon 24-70 2.8G lens in-person to them a few times. One time I picked up the lens and had to head to a photo shoot immediately. I unfortunately trusted their repair process but when I arrived the lens was not communicating with the camera. Apparently they didn't take the time to test it to make sure it works. My shoot was a bust, as I did not have an equivalent lens to use and needed re-repair. Another time I brought in that lens in for impact damage. When I came to pick it up I noticed that they used a bayonet mount that was clearly previously cracked, and was glued together at the crack. I brought it up to them and was reassured this will work fine and should have no negative impact on anything. I was stressed, needed to go to another shoot and did not have another lens to use in the interim to have it re-repaired so I trusted them and accepted it despite a $645 fee. Which is not right as for that amount the lens should be repaired to a factory standard with like-new parts! Fast forward to recently when I was at an event Nikon Professional Services was at, whom evaluated my equipment which is having autofocus issues and brought up this lens mount and said this should never have been repaired with such a part and that I should have rejected the repair. They also pointed out there was dust in the rear element. So with that, I am disappointed that APS was okay with installing such substandard parts. I had used them a lot in the past as they were local, but I will not continue to use their service with the poor experiences I received. If you have no other choice, go ahead and take the risk, it will be an expensive repair and there's a chance of questionable parts being used. If you are able to have your equipment repaired by Nikon in Melville, I suggest that route instead for peace of mind. read more

my Nikon d800 was used with minimal shutter actuations from a local camera shop. Unfortunately I dropped her from about waist high denting the hot shoe but nothing else that was immediately noticeable. I later figured out that the auto focus was terribly missing and not correctable with auto fine tune adjustment. I filled out a repair for with Nikon and sent it off for repair....it cost me $55 in shipping to find out from Nikon that my body was gray market and would not be repaired. A few months later in the Facebook marketplace my brother found a d800 that he was interested in...the seller mentioned getting his shutter replaced at APS....."APS? what is this place?" A friend of ours decided to take a chance and send both his d800 and 24-70 in for repair...needless to say his equipment came back better than new so my body was sent off ASAP. I got a quote the day it was received and my camera back in less than a week from sending it out....AMAZING!!!!!!!! The only problem I have is all the stitches on my eye I've been needing because my focus is sooooo sharp LOL When calling in to APS dont be fooled....it is not a robotic machine answering...David was very helpful clear about work and cost. Nikon will not be seeing any gear of mine grey market or not... APS will be getting all of my repair business and every Nikon Shooter that I know I will mention and make every effort to Convince them to use APS for all Nikon Maintenence and repairs. Shady, overpriced, useless, and horrible communication. About 6 months ago I dropped off an old camera that needed a new winding spool. I told them this, and they said it would be fixed. After 4 months a dozen phone calls that left me confused, lost, and not at all in the knowing of where my camera was, it's condition, and a time frame of when it was going to be fixed, I finally decided to show up at the suite. It's shady and the hours never match the websites hours. When I finally went in to pick my camera (on a lucky day where the hours were accurate, wow) they gave me my camera, made me pay an obscene amount of money, and once I got it back, nothing was different about it, it was still broken, and I asked for a refund, but they assured me that the camera was fixed. BS. I gave it back to them hoping that they would actually fix it this time after being called out, and I still am yet to get it back, yet alone a response to my calls. I cannot believe the immaturity and lack of work ethic that this place has, and I frankly cannot recommend more enough for people to go to any other place in the state to get your camera repaired. My Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8 AF-S ZOOM-NIKKOR is my most beloved lens and after selling my first copy about 2 years ago I had been wanting to purchase another one. Standard zoom, professional build quality, very sharp wide open its a wonderful lens. I found a copy on eBay and the seller said it worked great on his D800. Got it for a decent price, it looked great when I received it but I found it was working intermittently on my D7000 and D750 after a few months owning it. Eventually, the SWM stopped working completely when mounted on both cameras and I struggled with whether or not to get it repaired, or just save my money and purchasing the new Tamron 24-70. I did a little internet research for possible repair facilities ( Nikon said they wouldn't repair it ) and found APS. I gave them a quick call and the representative said with confidence after I explained my issues they could repair it. I figured, what do I have to lose especially after considering they do offer a limited warranty on their repairs. I shipped it to them the Friday before Christmas, they e-mailed an estimate to me the following Thursday and I authorized repairs the next day. The repairs were extensive according to their estimate, SWM and bayonet mount replacement, replacement of electrical parts along with cleaning and testing and within about 3 business days after authorizing repairs they called me for payment and shipped the lens back to me. In conclusion, "The Beast" is back and performing GREAT! I can't imagine this lens could perform much better post repairs than it would if it were brand new and I am one happy dude. If I'm fortunate enough to be able to use this lens for another 10 years I will consider it money well spent. Took it to a college hoops game this week to test it out and aside from my own limitations as an avid amateur photographer, it performed exceptionally well. I dropped my Nikon D90 and cracked the LCD. I thought I could fix it on my own--big mistake! I took my camera to Authorized Photo Service in pieces and they were able to fix it up in a couple of days. It turns out I had damaged the image board. Not only did they perform the major repair, they re-calibrated my camera with their proprietary diagnostic equipment. I even got a tour of the facility when I picked up my camera. If you ever need a repair for Nikon gear, these guys should be who you consider first before anyone else. A while ago I had an unfortunate accident with a Nikon superzoom on a beach. Sand got into the lens, it started making weird grinding noises while focusing, and eventually the lens got itself stuck on infinity focus. After calling up Nikon and being quoted an outrageous repair price higher than the actual cost of the lens, I took to Google to find another shop and found APS. After describing my problem, the tech told me what was most likely wrong, what work would need to be done, and how much it would cost (it ended up being less than Nikon). Surprisingly, the tech urged me to consider just replacing the lens, since the repair cost exceeded 50% of the lens' value. Although I was dead set on getting the lens repaired (it was a graduation present from a close relative and thus held sentimental value), the fact that the tech showed such honesty and concern made me decide to take a chance on these guys. Because let's face it, how often do you find a business that tries to NOT take your money and instead get you to consider doing something that makes more financial sense? Shipping the lens was straightforward, and once the repair was approved it only took a few days to complete. From start to finish, I had my lens back in about 1-1.5 weeks. Considering I was in California and APS is in Illinois, that's downright impressive! Want to know the best part? These guys somehow worked some kind of magic and gave me a lens that looked and functioned better than when it was first taken out of the box brand new! Needless to say, I was very impressed by the quality and workmanship displayed by APS. And if you're wondering if their work is good enough to last, it's been a few years since this all went down and that lens still works perfectly. I would highly recommend these guys for any repairs or service for your Nikon gear, more than even Nikon itself. If you require anything more than basic cleanup of maintenance of your Nikon lens you should avoid APS and go directly to Nikon USA. I sent APS a Nikon zoom lens along with documentation of what I found needing repair. They returned the lens and said they could not replicate the issue. I called APS to discuss and they gave me the brush off. I didn't bother to complain further and instead sent my lens to Nikon USA. It wasn't cheap, but Nikon USA fixed the issue I had identified and several I did not. The lens now functions perfectly. read more

Very pleased! Repairs were quick, less than 2 weeks turnaround and repair costs a fraction of what a new camera would cost. The service was outstanding and they were excellent on the phone. We lived in Arizona for years and the inside of my Nikon P610 was probably very dusty and the zoom movement was glitchy and the LED screen quit working. When the camera came back, the zoom movement is smooth, fast and it focuses faster. They also put a new LED screen in and replaced some electronics needing repair. I had a terrible experience with these guys which frankly leads me to label their service shady. I was given a Phone estimate for a repair that I was happy with, once I had spent money to ship it to them however, I was given a doubled estimate to actually perform the repairs on a Nikon F3. At that point they were practically holding my camera hostage so I just gave in and paid the increased estimate to get my camera repaired. I was also given a six month warranty on the repair job which involved replacing a thin plate on the bottom of the camera. 4 months down the line, this plate has started to sag and fracture, allowing the possibility of water ingress into the body. I personally suspect that the repair was performed incorrectly for the plate to fail while sitting on a shelf for much of the summer. Regardless, they now refuse to cover it under warranty, instead insisting on me sending it back to them for a reduced repair rate, which isn't happening considering my previous experience with their estimates. I've now spent more than half the value of this camera body and frankly can't afford to keep going around repair shops after getting screwed by this one. read more

Have to give 5 stars to any place willing to diagnose and fix a small issue, for free, over the counter when I walked in. I had a nagging issue where I would get an error after each pic and would have to un and then reload the battery to remove the error. I walked in today and the gentleman basically removed the lens and put it back on and that resolved it and then explained how the error can happen. Anyway, very appreciated. read more

The rudest customer service ever I was referred to them by a company Here in Orlando so I took a leap of faith and sent my lens to be fixed they returned it in a decent amount of time I thought great .. Not so great the same issue its still broken so after paying them over 300 to fix they are now asking for the same amount to repair something they messed uo for that amount of money I could buy a new lens. I would highly recommend Authorized Photo Service for your camera repairs. They specialize in Nikon cameras. They were very knowledgeable, quick, and very efficient for my two camera repairs. Before I knew that they were here, I had gotten estimates from other places and everywhere else that I went said that they would have to ship out my camera and it would be at least 3-8 weeks before I would get it back. I needed the repairs done quickly for a trip I was going on, and they were able to complete everything within 48 hours. And not only did they do the necessary repairs, but they also cleaned my camera and lens and it came back looking like new! They were very reasonable as well. After reading the reviews of APS I decided to give them a try. I have not had very good luck with the Nikon service people. My camera has been repaired several times for the same problem and the issue was not resolved and of course the 90 guarantee had expired. So I took my camera to be serviced locally. Let me tell you it was very worthwhile, not only can you speak with a service tech but you can face to face and explain what is going on. Immediately they knew what the problem was. I left the camera for repair . I returned to pick up the camera and on the spot I still had concerns . A few photo lessons ensued on the spot and the tech said he would make a few adjustments. So now with camera in hand and a 6 month guarantee I will work my camera and see that the problem is sufficiently resolved. Our grandson knocked my D4 and 24-70 f/2.8 off a knee-wall and the lens suffered typical frozen zoom ring syndrome. This was a 2' fall to a carpeted floor. Oh well, off to APS and I rec'd an estimate within a day. For a reasonable $575 (mid-range of over-the-phone estimate) they replace the lens barrel, helicoid, filter ring mount and a variety of other parts. Best thing is the lens was done in a day back to me today, Christmas Eve! less than week since I shipped it from the East Coast. Not sure if normal turn around, but I am so happy to have it back for the holidays and lens looks and feels like new! What great experience to work with professionals in this day and age. Without a warranty to back up my repair I was leary of sending in my Nikon camera for repair so I had no idea what it would cost. Best Buy will no longer clean anything without a warranty so I knew I had no choice. Without a proper cleaning I knew that my camera would eventually fail. I sent it in and they send back a form online for me to review. While it seemed high, again, I decided that it was worth it. To replace it would be a lot more expensive. This company claims its an authorized Nikon repair shop. Beware that their advertisement is misleading because they refuse to do warranty repair work on a Nikon product and when they were pressed, they will suggest that they send it on to Nikon for warranty repair. I sent in a three-month old camera (S7000) as it stopped focusing literally between picture-taking. They told me it wasn't a warranty issue because they said it had "impact/compression damage-not covered by warranty". I was furious because translated, that means, "you dropped the camera". I did not drop the camera (as it stopped working literally between picture-taking) and I strongly believe (my opinion) they created such a claim in order to get direct payment from the customer so they do not have to file the paperwork with Nikon to get paid for their work. I haven't received my camera yet nor have I received any promise of its repair. This company has now sent my camera to Nikon...or. at least, they claimed to. We will see if I ever get the camera back....fixed. read more

ILast year I dropped my AF-S NIKKOR 18-70mm1:3.5-4.5G lens that I bought used on EBay off at this service facility because it would no autofocus. They fixed it within a week. They replaced the focusing motor, cleaned and adjusted it. They charged me less than $100. I will us this store for all of my Nikon repairs. read more

I have a d7000 and it was one of those back focusing copies. With the 35mm 1.8g it needed -20 on the AF fine tuning setting and it was different depending on the light. I was going nuts! I took it tho APS thinking that they can not fix such a mess and they can only make it a bit better Well, they fixed it ! no more AF fine tuning needed on the two fast primes and the 70-200 2.8 I now have the awesome camera, the d7000 is supposed to be, all covered by the warranty ?
