I came here to deal with some noise issues I had and left the car, less than an hour later they called to tell me the car is ready. It had a minor issue that only needed 20 min work and they charged me for only 20 min work and not a full hour, honesty is always appreciated. I will definitely return here anytime I need to repair my car. P.s. The issue was fix and it all cost me around 50$

The Long Version: I'm a bit hesitant to write this review, because I don't want them to be busier than they already are so I can get a quicker appointment the next time I need them, lol. But I need to give credit where credit is due and these guys are 5 stars all the way. My 12 year old car was making some rattling noises when I drove over bumps or uneven road. Takaki Auto had excellent reviews on many different platforms, and combing through them they seemed like legit reviews. They also came highly recommended on several chat forums. They are also close to my house and specialize in Japanese vehicles, which mine is. When I called for an appointment, I described my issue and they told me the plan of what they were going to check. They were booking about a month out. I dropped off my car on my appointment date and was able to rent a loaner car. They ended up keeping my car over the weekend because they weren't able to finish the work on the Friday that I dropped it off, but I was ok with that since I had the loaner. Hiroshi called me and explained the situation after they diagnosed what was wrong. They had already gone ahead and replaced a stabilizer link because I had given pre-authorization for certain repairs, if required, but further repairs were needed so he had to talk with me. He gave me some options (like just replacing the bushings instead of the entire controller arms). And advised me it wasn't urgent to fix, but explained some possible consequences of delaying the fix (like uneven tire wear and the sound could mask other more critical sounds if something else were to go wrong). He was very patient with me as I know very little about cars. In the end I didn't want to delay the repairs and I had them replace the 2 control arms for me. They texted me when my car was ready and sent me the detailed invoice. Pickup went smoothly and they fixed the problem. My car no longer made the rattling sound when I drove over bumps and the car seemed to drive smoother. I found the price reasonable and I was very happy with the customer service. Oh, let me tell you about the loaner car, it was like over 20 years old with over 300,000 km on it, yet still drove well. I feel this in itself is a testament to their skills, lol. I am glad to have found an auto shop that I like. My dad does all the basic maintenance stuff for me like oil changes, changing my tires and he can even change brake pads and spark plugs, but the more complicated stuff I need to take to professionals. I ended up not going ahead with the maintenance work as he suggested it wouldn't be necessary right now. He lost two hours of labour costs but continues to build trust and respect with great service and honest advice. Like the previous reviewer mentioned, it's a no frills operation but luckily I don't look to my mechanic for good coffee and a place to watch TV.

While I still talking to the owner trying to ask questions about the inspection, I noticed his coworker is trying to lift my vehicle, I repeatedly asked him to stop lifting before I finished asking questions. He continued lifted the vehicle on the hoist. Then the owner says the brakes are not passing safety before he even checked the actual brake themselves. I asked what is the thickness of the brake is remaining made it failed. He did not answer. I asked again, he did not answer. I insisted multiple times, then he said it is not the brake. it is the rotors has rust on the side. Then he offered me a package to replaced all the brake pads and rotors. And told me it is only one hour left for getting the parts. I asked what is the quality and warranty of the parts he offered. He said it is good quality, initially stated it is lifetime warranty, I asked him to clarify what condition of the warranty, he then changed and said only 2 years of warranty. I asked if I can bring the parts for him to install, he said no. I ask if I can come back again with a new set of brake and rotor is installed to completed the inspection. He tried to dodge the question. At this time, he kept pushing me to order a new brake and rotor from him. I refused. He then said I need to pay him the full inspection cost before release the vehicle. All these happen within 5 minutes of the vehicle got inside the shop. Basically, he is taking my vehicle as a hostage at that moment with the vehicle hoisted. I asked he for a full inspection report. He said he will but provided nothing. I kept asking for a full report for his work, at the end, he wrote a six-words as an inspection, see the pictures. The whole time I was there were being pushed to install a new brake and rotor on the spot without knowing any details of the condition of the brake and rotor. Again, if there's a 0 star, I will give this a shop a 0 star.

For many years I went to the dealer instead of an independent garage but I gradually understood that the dealer was going by charts that show typical repairs for a car of a certain age. Because of this, I was getting some repairs that were typically required for a car of my type but not necessarily for my particular car. My neighbour recommended Robin at SMRO as she had found his work to be excellent and his attitude very respectful. I started using SMRO as my garage about 18 months ago and I am happy to highly recommend it. The repairs that I have had have been quickly and economically performed and it is always a pleasure to deal with Robin. I don't believe that the negative review on Yelp is from a genuine SMRO customer.

Guess what, I paid $1200 and the problem is still there. Basically wasted over $1000. Not nice. Those parts did not need to be replaced other than the suspicion they were causing the noise. Also, good luck getting a hold of Frank. I had to call numerous times, leaving numerous messages and send numerous emails (over many days and weeks), before finally getting a call back from Frank for an appt. Definitely not customer-oriented. Must already have too many clients. Time to find a new mechanic.
