I came here for a smog check and it was very fast. At mid-day on a Wednesday there was no wait. It took about 10 minutes (2000 and later cars are just hooked up to the OBD II reader, quick visual inspection, and fuel cap inspection). The waiting area is air conditioned and has seating. Service was good as the workers were friendly and efficient. I purchased a Groupon for a smog check for a 2000 and newer car for approximately $26. The mandatory California State smog certificate fee was $8.25. This fee is the same at every smog shop and is paid to the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) to fund the smog check program; it is only paid if your vehicle passes. For a total cost of $34 it was a good deal. At the time of writing, this shop is not STAR certified. Be sure to check the BAR website to obtain an official list of STAR certified shops if you are required to visit a STAR Certified smog shop. This shop also repairs cars and has a four post lift and two post lift indoors. There were various items and a motorcycle under the four post lift so it seems that it is not used much. There is also a two post lift outside. There was a vehicle in the shop with a dealer license plate so it seems that this shop may purchase cars at auctions, repair, and sell them. read more

I drove all the way out here to South Sac as I bought a Groupon for their smog check offer. I needed a Star station. I checked their website and they list they are a Star station and a photo of the logo. I arrive and I was told to wait 15 minutes as the workers were eating lunch in the office space. No worries. Waste the wait and the drive to be told they USED to be a Stat station but for whatever reason lost their status as one. If so, how about removing all mention/photo of Star from your website? Probably too much effort which in turn is a disservice to your customers who rely on you for accurate information to serve their needs. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a smog check based on stellar reviews on the site. When I arrived today to conduct the service, they immediately told me there would be an additional fee. I stated that it should have been disclosed in the terms and conditions that there was additional fees to complete the service. The gentleman assisting me stated it wasn't his responsibility and that they'd never had any issues with people paying the fee. I stated that it was false advertising and that it isn't going business to not disclose this in the fine print of the Groupon. The gentleman then stated that he was refusing to do my service because I was getting worked up. I stated calmly that I was not worked up but that I would not return to conduct business at this location again. I stated I would pay his fee and he proceeded to provide the smog service. To their credit it only took about ten minutes. Unfortunately, the First Gentleman passed me off to someone else to close out my transaction. When he entered the office, he did not look at me or greet me at all. The only words he used were asking if I was paying cash. No thank you. Nothing. Very horrendous customer service. Very misleading Groupon disclosures. Trying to refuse service because I brought an issue to their attention is bad business practices. Do not recommend. read more

This company doesn't know what customer service is. The owner couldn't give a day about his customers and potential customers. I called to book an appointment after checking if the had an online scheduling system. Even my barber has that. They don't and they weren't open yet, so like many consumers I left a message leaving all of my information and services requested, and asked for a call back. Being a manager in sales and customer service across 3 industries over the last 40 years, I did expect a call back. I followed up just after 5pm, and the owner answered and told me he couldn't schedule me because he closed a few minutes ago. I told him I had called earlier and left a detailed message with a request for a callback and he flatly said "I don't get any messages left during my off hours, only during business hours. I was incredulous. 12 year olds with a cell phone get messages 24/7, but a business doesn't? He didn't offer to call me back tomorrow, he had zero empathy or customer skill. His flat reply was "call me tomorrow during business hours if you want an appointment. When I called the next day, he said since my car was a hybrid, it wouldn't be worth him doing it, he would have to add a large upcharge and I should ask groupon for a refund. I went down the street and found 916 Repair, and auto repair shop that not only fit me in, they did it substantially below what other shops in the area were charging. So I requested a refund through groupon and told them he wasn't going to honor the groupon, he then lied to them and said he is accepting them so they aren't refunding it yet. I am asking groupon to get us on a 3 way call so I can call him out on what he told me. I honestly don't know how this business can survive with this attitude. It might be extra for European models. I have a car that should not cost extra for an oil change so I called. I gave him the name of the making and model of my vehicle. He told me that it would be an extra charge and I said well your Groupon needs to specify that like basically you're using Groupon to get customers but then you're doing a bait and switch and then again he asked me for my vehicle make/model and then I was like well are you not listening? I just told you that info for my vehicle. They should not be on Groupon if unable to disclose the full price. I came in for a smog test this morning, the service was fast and was relatively cheap. They completed my smog in about 15 minutes. After they brought my car out and was paying for my smog test, I mentioned that I was just about due for an oil change. The gentleman working the front desk said that they could have me out in another 30 minutes. He quoted me $70 for the oil change and I then asked, "what kind of oil will I get for $70," he told me that he would give me a full synthetic for that price. My car was ready in roughly 20-25 mins and I received a full synthetic oil change, great deal. I'm for sure going to make this my smog/oil change shop as they are fast and cheaper than the 15 minute oil change drive-thru shops. Will be back! read more

I had an appointment on Dec. 21st which was very easy and pleasant to schedule over the phone. OB was very kind and professional and a cool dude all around. Took my payment and only afterwards I remember I needed some lights changed. OB was cool about it and gave me a quota for parts and labor immediately. I thought it was a bit steep so he worked out a more suitable price for me which I really appreciated. He also asked me to Zelle him instead of using card so he wouldn't have to charge me for another transaction fee. He went to check up on the work and noticed that one of my lights wasn't out, just unplugged. He informed me and immediately Zelled me back for the part I no longer needed. This level of honesty is, sadly, rare and I thought it was the cherry on top of an already fantastic service. Both the oil change and the lights repair took less than it took me to read a chapter of the book I had since I was ready to spend a good chunk of my morning there. I did my smog check here. Overall decent place and they diligently put air in all my tires for free. A couple of things I didn't like was that the Groupon smog check deal that they had for $25, it doesn't include free retests (and you would have to repay the $25 for another test) - free retests are pretty much universal at most smog check shops. The retail price which offered free retests was $40. The employee told me that he would charge me the discounted Groupon rate whether I pass or fail. Then, I realized...it's just paperwork. You should never charge the Groupon rate if they fail because then you're just unnecessarily ringing up the customer and it's petty. So I made it clear to him, if I fail, charge me the retail price so I get a free retest and he obliged. Fortunately I passed so the retest was a moot topic, and he charged me the Groupon. If a business is charging the Groupon after someone fails their smog, then that's bad business and a terrible policy. I don't think it's incompetence, I think it's somewhat greed so minus two stars on that notion. What I didn't like was they don't make it clear on the Groupon whether or not you have to pay for the $8 certificate. It implies as in most all-inclusive Groupon prices that this is out-the-door deal but it's NOT. The certificate is separate so I paid $33 not $25. They also don't tell about the no retests, you have to ask. I feel like the lack of transparency makes this business somewhat sketchy whether or not they are doing it deliberately. Other smog check shops, I've seen to be far more transparent. This business sorta skirts around transparency and then has you bumping into these inconvenient policies. read more
