I needed to have my 60,000 mile tuneup, an oil change (if not part of the tuneup), and have my tire pressure checked because of a possible leak. I called and was easily able to make an appointment to bring my vehicle in. Somehow they were able to fit me in the next day! I dropped my car off with Mike and was told it should be ready by the afternoon, he would give me a call. Before changing some transmission fluid and doing extra work Mike called to confirm my approval. I happily said to complete the work. He told me what time my car would likely be finished, at 4 pm. I waited a tad longer than 4 to go back and pick up my vehicle. When I arrived Mike waved me into the office so I could remit payment. I was handed a receipt with the prices clearly stated as well as the work that was performed that day. I found Mike to be reliable. It can be difficult to find a mechanic that doesn't try and upsell you on parts or services you don't necessarily need. When calling in with a question looking for an estimated cost of repair: There are probably auto repair shops out there who will tell you to bring your vehicle in so they can sell you on something you don't need. Mike and A&C Auto Repair isn't one of those shops. I called in *thinking* I had a radiator leak because my coolant was always so low. I was told to bring it for a diagnostic - no charge I might add. I brought my Tacoma in and turns out there wasn't a leak. But I kept hearing a dripping noise onto the hot engine parts. Turns out it was normal and is very common. I was quoted for labor + water pump kit as my truck is reaching the 200k mark and there were signs of the pump leaking and corrosion. Unfortunately it wasn't in my budget at the time, but that's on my part and not A&C Auto. Mike took the time to show me what "that dripping noise" was I kept hearing before he sent me on my way. NO CHARGE for the helpful information and diagnosis. Long story short: When I decide to do the preventive maintenance and it's in my budget, I'm taking my money back here. Would be 5 stars, but I'm not sure of the quality of the work. Will update if/when I have work done here. Hope this helps! read more

Where do i start!? Mike if you are reading this you are an Angel!! I'm so thankful that i found this place. I've had bad experiences from mechanics in the past being a woman & all i feel like men take advantage. Mike did not make me feel that way at all. I took my 09 Prius to him because all of a sudden ALL of my lights came on at once, the check engine light, the abs, vsc, & a triangle sign which i had never seen before. My car would not go into drive or reverse. So crazy because everything with my vehicle was just fine the day before. No warnings. Every place i called wanted to charge me $120 just to check it & some places i called said they aren't specialized to fix Prius's because it's a hybrid...I had already put a lot of $ into this car the past year & was nervous to take it anywhere because I'd have to tow it. This shop already had such great reviews i was willing to take a chance & have him check it out. Took about a day which was ok because i figured maybe with all those lights on would be hard to understand the main problem. Mike did not know the main problem at first & recommended i take it to the dealer. I was on my way there & he then told me he tried the battery. He removed it, re charged it & it was working good as normal!!!! Here i am praying to God to help me with my vehicle & he shows up for me!!! I believe God worked through Mike to give him that knowledge last minute & sure enough i am back on the road! Mike did not charge me a cent! I got my brakes done on my CRV at another local shop, but when I got my car back, it was making a strange grinding noise that wasn't there before the visit. I gave them a chance to make it right, and they claimed they surfaced the "new" rotors they'd installed, but the noise was still there. Making me crazy. After consulting Yelp, I took my car to A&C to make it stop. Not only did they replace the rotors, which got rid of the noise, they gave me an amazing price and got it done the same day I brought it in without an appointment. Sanity saved! As a person new to the north of California and picky about where they take their car I looked high and low for an auto repair place, then I found A&C Auto. It's a small place in a warehouse area but well worth the drive. I had been to see Mike a couple times, but never anything big. Last time I took my car it was because the check engine came on. I left my 4Runner and prayed. Mike called and said it was a sensor and the catalytic converter. $900 total in the holiday season. I said fix it and waited. When I finally got a call to pick her up, Mike told me he replaced the catalytic converter checked the obd again and it didn't need the sensor. Most shops would go ahead change the sensor and charge. Going through yelp on iPhone, I took a chance to go on just the ratings alone. Taking a chance at A&C paid off. The Call Mike (the owner) initially sounded curt on the phone, only to find that he was actually a pretty cool guy in person. The Repairs Since barely starting this review with only one sentence and abandoning it for awhile, Mike's done 3 or 4 repairs on my car already. All repairs were successful without. Experience Mike's had a passion for working on cars since even before legal driving age. He may show you a projects he's currently worked on, to prove this passion. Value There's lower prices out there for repairs - Mike charges fair. I have yet another mechanic who charges top dollar (Japanese Service Center), but Mike's prices are better than these guys. Overall I do recommend going to A&C for auto repair. Mike's an honest guy - I've been to other shops where I'd talk to someone, and intuitively know that 'the other guy' had me feeling that I'd be ripped off, and/or upsold for unnecessary repairs. THE BEST MECHANIC IN SAC- SERIOUSLY. Mike and his crew were professional and amazing form start to finish. I went in to checkout my AC as it wasn't blowing cold. I called around to a few other shops and all they stated was that they'd recharge for X amount of dollars. Mike picked up and let me know that he would diagnose if there is a leak or another issue FIRST before filling with freon. He was not only cheaper than them but it made a lot of sense to first diagnose the issue if any. The shop is clean with plenty of parking. Found out I had a nail/bolt in one of my tires. I had heard that America's Tire does free plugs/patches, and also within a couple miles of my house. I got there and they took a look at my tire. They ended up telling me that their "best guy" at plugs/patches could not fix my tire and I would have to buy a new one. I had a strange feeling that they were just trying to make money off this "free repair". I had heard really good things about A&C from friends. I called them up and gave them the background story. They told me to drive on in and they would take a look. I got there and they unmounted the tire from my rim, and I saw their tech peel the patch off the inside of my tire like a old band aid. Next to no adhesive was used by America's Tire's "best guy"! In about ten minutes of so, A&C had removed, cleaned up, and re-plugged/patched my tire and IT WORKED! Even though this shop is just over 18 miles from my house, if my car is derivable, I will be going to A&C! read more

When into "Mike's" shop this afternoon based on other people's reviews. I had the struts changed at another shop and needed a wheel alignment. Mike had his guys check the alignment on the front wheels which I wanted done and made sure that the the back wheels were okay. They were. What I found impressive was that no one tried to "upsell" me parts or services that I didn't need. I'm sure if they would have found that the back wheels needed to be aligned, they would have let me know and it would have been my choice to have it done. This shop is great! It's clean.
