This used to be my go-to place for oil changes and car issues. A couple of months ago, I requested a quote for new tires. The price seemed high, so I shopped around and ended up buying tires elsewhere. When I returned last week for an oil change, the owner's wife asked if I still needed tires. I told her I had already purchased them, and she was clearly upset that I didn't buy from them. I also asked the owner to check my brake pads because I had been hearing noises. After the oil change, I followed up, and he informed me that the brake pads were still in good condition. I had a feeling that wasn't true, possibly to let the issue get worse and charge more later if the rotors were damaged. I got a second opinion at another shop, and the mechanic confirmed I definitely needed new brake pads and had to replace the rotors. I won't be going back. It felt like they were more interested in waiting for my car to get worse so they could charge more rather than being honest about the issue. read more

Was recommended here to come get a smog check. The place I went last year just charged way too much with a coupon, but here it only cost me $40 with a coupon. I was greeted and was provided with great customer service. I think it's best to make an appointment in advance though because they asked me if I had an appointment. I don't think they do free retests though. Fast and friendly with a great price. I would also recommend them. read more

Never taking any of my vehicles here again. I had given this shop a lot of business and brought all of my family's cars here. In fact a total of 5+ cars that I have taken here for smog and nowhere else in three years. I called and asked availability and price for my vehicle. I was given a price. When I got there I was given a different price. I politely said "ok the price on the phone was different". Instead of explaining the pricing situation, The owner actually went on a RACIST RANT as I stood there about people of my skin color. Never in my life have I ever had that happen to me. Cheap basic service like smog. Thats about it. I tried having their 2 wheeled alignment advertised at $29.99 since my car started pulling to the left a little. Turns out they only advertised it to get people in. My car is a front-wheeled vehicle, but the guy there said he has to add $10 more because they need to put the sensor at the back. Really? Yes, you need to put the alignment heads at the back so you will have a guide on how to adjust the front. He started telling me that theyve been doing this for 20 years. Sure. Then, his son (assuming he is since they have the same demeaning attitude) drove my car in the shop like a race car, onto the ramp, braking like nothing matters. He backed off the ramp the same fashion and said my driver side control arm needs to be replaced. Without looking at it. He just know. The older guy then proceeded to tell me again they have been doing this for a long time, so they know. He also told me I should feel lucky he does not need to charge me for diagnosis. Really. Without looking or putting the car up. I went to another shop and they actually put it up and diagnosed it. FREE OF CHARGE. They 8said the driver side control arm IS STILL GOOD, but the passenger control arm has started to deteriorate and needs replacement soon. They can replace both for $900 with alignment. Challenge motors gave me a verbal estimate of $1400 plus alignment. He wont give me a written one. I am quite handy with cars so I replaced both with $97 of control arms I bought online. I had the alignment done for $50. Challenge motor may be cheaper on the surface, but then, they almost got me. At least I got a cheap smog. But I wont go there for anything else. People skills is something they lack a lot. read more

Overall they said it would pass mechanically just that sticker is needed to pass. I trusted this husband and wife to do my FRONT BRAKES ONLY and they charged me $400+. the husband told me there was 1 piece I need so that my drive can be smooth. he said he will call around for the piece and get some prices and then call me. well today (2 months later) while driving with my child in the car my brake brakes. I call them and they tell me it's my fault because I refused service which I did not. and then told me the warranty is over so there is nothing they will do. I then ask for their names and address because I am taking it to court. the wife told me she isn't telling me any information so I said I will keep calling back until I get the information. I call back and now the husband answers and tells me I've threatened them so if I call again they are calling the cops. I called fox40 news station so that I can broadcast this but I am still moving forward in taking them to court. no matter how down and out and desperate you are DO NOT GO TO THEM they will not do the work all the way and they will put you and your family life at risk. read more

Found this little gem family operated last year, and have been going there since ! Recommended all my family and friends to go here as well. I called in to get a price on a diagnostic. Came in the owner recognized my car by make and model. Was greeted by his wife , who did all the paper work. He estimated the diagnostic will be done in 2 hrs. As promised 2hrs later, I got a call , he explained in detail as to what diagnostic was done , he recommended a $140 repair also explained due to multiple codes present this $140 will not grantee the full repair. Needed to replace a sensor first and recheck to make sure no codes come back on. If any codes did come back on then the diagnostic will continue from there. Thankfully $140 repair fixed my check engine light. And i am one happy girl ! He recommend some preventive maintenance, was not very pushy in his up sell. Gave good competitive prices. I took two cars in for smog checks and it was smooth and easy. I'd called ahead to see if my cars qualified under their coupon (they did), so when I arrived, the owner recognized me from the models I'd asked about and waved us straight in. He said it would take about 15 minutes per car. Another guy got started on one car right away. I'm not sure how long they both ended up taking because I had another appointment so left both cars there and picked them up about 2.5 hours later. They took credit cards for payment. The place is clean but nothing fancy in the shop or waiting room. It's a real family operation, with the owner, son (?) and even a pre-teen girl and mom around helping out (not working on cars). I like supporting family shops so I consider this a good thing. Everybody was friendly and efficient and the price was great. After I paid, he described what other services they provided and gave me a quote on a 30K service on another car. No high pressure or upsell; just friendly and informative. Overall, a good experience and I would definitely consider them for other service needs. The place is located near Franklin Blvd and Florin Rd, off to the side of Food Max and KFC. Although the address is listed as on Florin Rd, it's actually off to the side, facing Luther Drive. If heading East on Florin, take the small road turning right on Luther Dr, before getting to Franklin. Had my SMOG done there and didn't pass which is ok. I was shock at first cause usually my vehicle passes SMOG but I had an on going issue which I found out was SMOG related. The owner ask if I reseted the check engine light, I said I changed my battery about an hour before I took in. He told me to drive it around put at least 100 miles bring it back and he will check to see if passes. I returned 12 days later and hold and behold my damn engine check light came on and I told him my engine light came on. He told me it will not pass SMOG. Disappointed but what can I do but fix the issue. About a month later after fixing the issue I returned. I asked the owner before he hooks up anything and get charge can he determine if it will pass SMOG by connecting a handheld OBDII monitor. He told me to go back to my mechanic and have them check if it will pass SMOG because he doesn't want to wasn't his time cause his not getting paid. I told the owner my mechanic said everything is back to new and good to go. All I wanted was the owner to hook up the OBDII monitor like other SMOG places that don't charge to let me know if it will pass or not. Well, he didn't and he got mad at me saying your wasting my time, I should go back to my mechanic. I would if his shop was SMOG registered. Not all mechanic shop are SMOG registered. However, he did charge me $31.75 for SMOG inspection and $8.75 for SMOG Cert which I didn't understand since I didn't get a SMOG Cert. How do I know, I went to DMV and showed the paper work and they said the owner didn't complete the work. Hmmmm, the owner charged a fee for not providing which was a cert. I won't be going back to get my SMOG done there. read more

DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THEM. THEY ARE VERY SHADY. I bought a vehicle from Challenge Motors the other day and on driving it home to Humboldt County the check engine light came, blew smoke from the exhaust, broke down, and wont start anymore. Turns out the vehicle has a blown head gasket. They tried to hide this issue (successfully) and were initially very helpful and kind. Upon trying to resolve the issue, they insisted that I tow the vehicle to Sacramento (I live in Humboldt County, this is a $1500 tow each way) and that they will do the head gasket replacement. I don't trust them to do the work, or even to get the vehicle to me afterwards. They screamed at me on the phone that its my fault, and that I should have towed it to them when it broke down at 11 pm on a sunday in the middle of nowhere. Initially they offered to split the cost of the head gasket repair, then eventually rescinded that offer and now refuse to offer any kind of refund of any kind. All in all this has been the worst experience I have ever had with a business, period. Maybe they are great for a smog, and are a very charming local business, but PLEASE do not buy a vehicle from them or allow them to do more serious work on your vehicle. I hate to leave this review as I was really pleased with them, but things rapidly went down hill. read more

Great place to get your vehicle worked on. Mr Singh does great and fast work. I have taken my car to him and have never had to take it back for that problem. I have also taken in parts that I bought and he has installed them. He has good prices and the more I go in the better deals he gives me. He is a very honest guy and likes meeting with and talking with his customers. Do not be put off with the way the shop looks the work counts more. Update 7.17.17 Had to have some major work done today, both Mr Singh and his son jumped right on it and got it done in no time. This was my go to place until recently. I have a new car that Iv taken to only this place and the dealership. In an effort to save money I had my brother change my oil this time and he told me the oil filter cap had been stripped and I'd need to buy a new one from the dealership. Well first of all the only place iv ever taken this car is the dealership and challenge motors so if the cap is stripped it's because of Challenge motors since they are the only ones to touch my car since it was new. I go to challenge, explain what Iv been told, and he denies ever touching my car. Says that anyone could have done the damage. The last sticker on My car is from challenge. I have receipts showing the same. Their database says the same. BUT To be fair I understood where he was coming from and to avoid further argument I went and bought the new cap and brought it back to challenge thinking okay at least right your wrong and help me fix this. Just take off the stripped cap and put on the new one. He then proceeds to tell me that it will be $100 just to take off the stripped oils filter cap and put in the new one. So I'm paying $100 for you to fix damage that I am 100% sure you did To my car? Overall this was my fault for not checking my car after each oil change to make sure it was done properly. Had I caught it while still there I would've had a stronger foundation to stand on. All I'm saying is don't go here and trust them. Double Check EVERYTHING they do. Any mechanic that STRIPS a damn cap is not skilled and the fact that they neglect their regulars says a lot. Probably will go back but will never trust them again.
