After seeing how good the Auto Stop's reviews were I called in to see if they repair slightly bent rims. They said they do, depending on how bad the damage is. So I decided to take my car to them in the hopes they could fix it and I also needed an oil change so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone. It was my first time here and I first drove past the place since the building is attached to another and it's only one garage. I dropped my car off and they called me a few hours later to let me know they wouldn't be able to fix the rim. If they tried they might do more damage than good. But they did give me my oil change. On the call they mentioned some services they provide that Volkswagen recommends for the amount of miles I have on my car. I chose to decline 2 of the 3 services. But did get my heating/air filter replaced since I've been smelling a nasty smell from the vents and it's made all the difference! Their customer service is amazing. That's why they get 5 stars. They were quick and efficient and the process was painless. I wouldn't want to have to wait in their small waiting room but it was great for a drop off! P.s. My 2014 BNW X1 had a horrible "engine output reduced" warning that came on. In a panic I called the BMW dealer and had my car towed to them. It was a less than stellar experience. Sporadic communication. A quote for $5400 that included things that had no bearing on anything being wrong. Basically they were trying to scam me. I turned to trusty Yelp and found out the dealer only had 2.5 stars for service! And every dealer I checked out (5!) all also had horrible reviews for service. No one even had a 3 star!!! When you're faced with a potential $5400 repair, you do your research to ensure your car is in the best possible hands. Luckily for me, between Google reviews and Yelp, that led me Auto Stop of Arlington and Beaver, who ended up being the most trusted and capable car guru, a girl could find. This place and Beaver are like finding a unicorn. Initially, Beaver told me, they could save me 30% over dealer quote but that he would want his team to start from scratch and assess issues on their own. Great! I didn't trust the dealer quote at all and when pressed they hadn't been able to satisfy my questions. I had my car towed over from BMW and even though it arrived mid afternoon, Beaver was on the phone with me before closing letting me know that 2 of the 4 things didn't have anything wrong with them at all and didn't need to be replaced or fixed. That immediately decreased my quote from BMW by $3500. Yeah, let that sink in. That's a lot of money to save. My car is 8 years old but I maintain it impeccably and it has under 90k miles on it. I live in California and since covid, I have been road tripping. Prior to each departure, I've gone to my home BMW dealer and then whatever local one to get my car serviced prior to taking off. Until I hit northern Virginia, every experience I had was great. Everyone always told me how well I maintain my car and how it doesn't even appear to be 8 years old. It's my baby, I have to take care of her! As a woman, I do feel like you have to be careful not to ripped off, which is why I've always been faithful to having BMW take care of my car. But this isn't my first car (I'm 53) and so when I felt myself being scammed at the dealer, I knew to look for a shop that specializes in BMWs as an alternative. Beaver and Auto Stop of Arlington exceeded my expectations in service, communication and pricing. My car is running like a dream. They offered me a 3 year warranty vs the 2 year one from BMW. And even better, my bill came in at under $2k and they even flushed my system for me. So they added on services, reduced my overall cost and saved me $3400 over the scammy dealer in Sterling. That's what I call a success story! Putting the money savings and the straight talk I got, I would really like to commend Beaver for being so communicative with me. This is the only place I'd ever take my car for a needed repair. I had an 14-year-old vehicle on its last legs in need of a transmission repair that my usual mechanic could not provide. Prompted by the outstanding reviews, I brought it to Auto Stop. I was greeted by a friendly, professional service writer who explained that I should expect a complete diagnosis within the day. A few hours, I got an email that showed a point-by-point inspection of my vehicle, complete with pictures and detailed explanations. The service writer called a few minutes later and went over everything described and gave me a quote, which was about half of what I expected to pay. Ultimately I decided against the repair, as I had been considering a new car and thought the money would be better spent on a down payment. When I returned to pick up the vehicle, the service writer gave me a goodie bag with snacks and treats, saying "All of our customers get a treat!" To recap: The service was friendly and professional. I was so worried about the repairs that would be needed on my 2008 Honda Fit, and I'm a luddite when it comes to mechanical issues. I wasn't expecting a well-documented report, or their extreme patience as I called multiple times to review it along with my options. I'm pretty sure it was James who I spoke to the most, and he was incredibly reassuring and helpful which made this process so much less painful. I was told by others that I could save a lot of money doing things myself, since some of my repairs were fairly minor, but I am so glad that I didn't try that and left it to the professionals. They are worth every penny of reassurance in both their explanations and their well-done repairs. I took my truck there based on a recommendation from a friend and I'm glad I did! I thought I had a nail that pierced my tire so I dropped it off for them to check out. A few hours later they called me and said the nail didn't do any damage and my truck was ready. A few minutes later I received a text with a link showing a full inspection of my vehicle with recommended actions. It even had names and pictures of the technician and advisor. I went to get my truck and asked "how much" and they said "no charge, it wouldn't be right to just take out a nail." Not only did they fit me in, remove the nail, and do an inspection, when I got to my truck it had been washed! I will do all of my business with them from now on! The debrief was clear and the staff made sure to let me know what to look out for after spotting some things during the work on my car. The shop is small, but quality work is done here. I was in shock about the price -- but researched that it was reasonable given the nature of the repair. Lucas helped me through it all. He explained the process. The parts. I have never written a review for any business before, but the service I received at Auto Stop was the worst I have ever had anywhere. I scheduled an appointment a few days in advance, and had three requests. I needed an oil change, I needed one of my oxygen sensors replaced, and I wanted a rundown and estimate of all the preventative maintenance that should be done to the car. Dropped off my car at 10 and went home to wait for a call. At 4:30 I called for a status update because I would need my car before they closed at 6. They had not touched it. Waited another half hour before I called back to tell them I was coming to get it because I needed to get to work in the morning. All that was done was the oil change. Arrived, got my car and I was just going to just let it go. The next day I discovered that a bag change with about $50 in it had been stolen from the glove box. Again I was just going to let it go, after all, it was partially my fault for leaving it in the car (not really because they shouldn't steal your stuff, but it's kind of expected). Today, after buying the 02 sensor myself and doing the repair, which took less than 10 minutes, I went to clear my check engine codes only to find that they had stolen my code reader as well. This is the point where I cannot just let it go. I'm too mad. TLDR: They didn't do what was asked, they stole my stuff, and they actively made it harder for me to repair my own car. I cannot possibly discourage people enough from going to Auto Stop Arlington. read more

TL:DR They messed up and immediately corrected it once I brought it to their attention, no resistance given. But it was an expensive mess up and I do not trust them. They also charge more labor than the standard menu and have the highest labor rate I've heard of. In February 2020, I took my truck in for safety check after moving here from Korea. I was very surprised that after 18 months and 10K miles that all my fluids were dirty, low, otherwise bad. I kept up ALL my maintenance stateside. Every 15K miles I had all recommended maintenance done. In December 2020 they recommended I get my struts and tires changed. Because of COVID and not driving it, I decided to wait until April 2021. I went out of town and my husband took the truck in for struts and a burning oil smell. Their analysis came back that the burning oil smell was from a leaking valve cover gasket and not only were all the fluids bad, again, but the timing belt needed to be changed. No it did not. We advised them that the timing belt and water pump had been changed at 90K and my truck is at 155K. It's not needed for another 25K. We also advised them that the fluids had all been changed by them 2K miles ago, so unless there was something actually wrong, don't do anything because of mileage. All over the report it stated that things needed to be changed because they couldn't find evidence that it had been changed. Which struck me as odd because I have their records stating that they did the work. We told them to go forward with struts, tires, alignment, valve cover gasket, and only things that were wrong, nothing because of mileage. Part way through the repair, they called my husband again to ask if he wanted the timing belt replaced since they were already there and they wouldn't charge any additional labor. He declined, and when he told me about this phone call, the 3rd time they recommended changing the timing belt btw, we couldn't figure out why they were *there* already. My husband picks up my truck and when I got home I went over the receipt. It was much higher than it should have been. Sure enough there was a power steering fluid flush and a timing cover gasket replacement in there. I went over their report and couldn't figure out why the timing cover gasket had been replaced (it was because they replaced the timing cover gasket that they were at the timing belt, which by the way because it's a belt and not a chain, has no oil and the "gasket" is more like foam than rubber. Why would this need to be replaced?). I called and asked if it made sense that my truck would require a power steering fluid flush after 2K miles (yes, this shop did a power steering fluid flush two thousand miles ago). To their credit, I brought this up to 3 separate people and all 3 immediately responded with, "No. That sounds wrong." While waiting for a manager call back, I scoured my receipts from my 3 visits with them and found several discrepancies including: Timing cover gasket replaced (mentioned above), power steering fluid flush (mentioned above), excessive labor charges for both the valve gasket replacement and the timing cover gasket replacement, recommended an automatic transmission fluid flush (I have a manual transmission, that was just sloppy), the cost of power steering fluid doubled since the year before, and the same recommendations mentioned above of replacing all the fluids they already replaced 2K miles ago. To their credit, the manager immediately offered to refund the power steering fluid and timing cover gasket, approximately $950. He explained that it was entered into the system wrong. He also said the technician requested additional hours than what's listed in the menu for the valve cover gasket and that they do indeed have a labor rate of $139/hr, therefore the excessive labor charges remained. They didn't address the fact that the cost of power steering fluid doubled since February 2020. Overall, they were quick to offer to right the wrongs I brought to their attention, but I don't trust them anymore. I'm grateful for the quick refund of $950, but the sloppiness of this transaction has shown me that this is not the auto mechanic for me. Now I also don't feel good about the work they did for me in 2020. read more

After many years of neglect on anything more than basic maintenance, I finally got around to getting my 13 year-old Prius caught up. Auto Stop in Shirlington did a great job on several tasks such as spark plug replacement and brake fluid flush. I liked too the way they itemized the tasks on their estimate, and even emailed a report with photos of what needed work. The report included several items that I deferred, and there was no pressure or sales tactics to do anything other than what I wanted. They got all tasks done and the car back in a day. This is my second time visiting Auto Stop Arlington and Richard, the general manager has been so courteous and professional both times. First time was about a year ago when I suspected an exhaust leak in my 2009 BMW M3. Richard took my car in, put it up on the lift and inspected the exhaust with myself and one of the mechanics. We concluded that exhaust has no issues/leaks and Richard didn't charge me dime for the time he spent investigating! Then today, remembering this great experience with Auto Stop, I took my car in again to have a loose exhaust bolt replaced/tightened. The bolt was rusted and prevented me from using handheld tools to tighten. So I called Auto Stop and they were able to take me in the same day. Again, everyone at the front desk were so kind and my car was on the lift within minutes of arriving. Richard noticed that rust is preventing the bolt from tightening all the way in, so he asked the mechanic to clean the rust off the bolt and tighten. This took about 30 minutes, 45 minutes since the car has been on the lift. It's common for shops to charge by hours and this job certainly would have been an hour labor. However, again, Richard said this was such a simple job and that he would not charge me!! My experiences at Auto Shop, especially with Richard, other service advisers and the mechanics have been fantastic. I work on my car myself for minor things but whenever I need professional help, I am, without a single hesitation, calling Richard at Auto Stop. read more

My Honda Fit's check engine light came on, and I panicked. One of us is between jobs, and well, check engine lights and not having jobs don't go well together. I took it to a local (Woodbridge), highly reviewed place I found on Yelp. They scanned it. "It's the transmission. We'll do just about anything but transmissions. Call Joe Bob's Transmission Shop [not a real place]." Joe Bob told me they would have to disassemble the transmission just to see what was wrong. The cost for said diagnostic was $1580. Said diagnostic fee would go toward the whole rebuild, which would be between $3000 and $6000. For 10-yr-old car with 73,000 miles. Thanks, but no thanks, Joe Bob. I told the first local place what Joe Bob said, and they said all they could offer was replacing the transmission with one from a junk yard (with 71,000 miles) for $1550. Not good. My wife had found Auto Stop years ago on Yelp and had a good experience. They stopped her from buying a used Camry, saying it would need several thousand dollars worth of work in short order. So, in desperation, we called them, even though it's a bit of a haul from Woodbridge. We were helped by a gentleman named Beaver, and he was awesome. I gave him the backstory, and he said, "Hmmm. 73,000 miles is low for a Honda transmission to go. If you bring it in, we can do our own scan, and we'll do what we can to keep you from having to do the whole transmission. I wanna do some research on this code you're giving me." We get there a couple hours later, and Beaver has, in fact, done his homework. They keep the car overnight, and Beaver calls us with great news. The transmission was fine. It just needed a new transmission fluid control impeller rotary motor hydraulic panic sensor [not a real part; I paid Beaver to remember the part]. They had to order the part, so it took a few days. But they replaced the parts that were broken, flushed our transmission, and charged us less than a grand. The car is fine. We are fine. The transmission is fine. Everything is fine. New jobs are on the horizon, and the Fit will continue to be a great grocery getter, thanks to Beaver and Auto Stop. It's official. We are customers for as long as we live in NoVA. Reasonable prices, honest assessments, super friendly staff, and a commitment to fixing only the things that are wrong. When I arrived, Brandi was amazing by telling me everything I needed to know, in detail. I was planning on waiting for my car in their lobby but they offered to get me a Lyft home while I waited for my car. Something came up that day and I was not able to pick my car up from them before they closed, so they offered to bring my car to my house. I have been looking for an auto shop in Arlington to have a local go-to place and I definitely found it in Auto Stop! This shop blew me away with their amazing customer service and quality work. I have a bit of a commute to work and Auto Stop was able to provide me with a rental car, so I could easily drop my car off and pick up when it was ready. For this visit, I needed an oil change and state inspection. Their price for an oil change is extremely reasonable. On top of the state inspection, Auto Stop also performs a digital inspection (at no additional cost) that checks for problems the state inspection may not cover, and they email you the results with pictures. The pictures are so helpful and makes it so much easier to monitor for any potential future problems. What truly sticks with me the most about this shop is how well taken care of I felt and how amazing the customer service was. I had the pleasure of working with Brandy, and she could not have done a better job. She answered all of my questions (even while the shop was insanely busy) and made sure that I was all set. I even left with a goody bag and for anyone who needs to bring a dog along, they have dog treats. I went to this mechanic shop based on the Yelp reviews. I was hearing a vibrating sound and feeling the vibration in my brake pedal at red lights for a few weeks. I was dreading going to a mechanic for fear of them taking advantage of the fact that I'm a woman who knows very little about cars and unnecessarily charge me for repairs that aren't needed. I got an appointment the next day after calling. The front desk employee Brandy is a delight and really friendly! Turns out it's just rust buildup from the brakes being exposed to the elements and me not driving frequently. If I drive it more often it will go away on its own. There was no charge for this inspection and they even gave me a goody bag others have mentioned. The fact they were honest and a respectable company has convinced me to use them in the future! Bring your car here once and you'll NEVER go anywhere else again. The dealership tried to charge me $2,200. I brought my car here for a second opinion and Chris explained everything to me in detail and said that those repairs weren't really needed and would just make a tiny difference in fuel economy. He also was able to fix my AC for less than half of what the dealer wanted and recommended we try the cheaper option first to see if that fixed it before doing something else. This is the best repair shop I've ever been to and they even drop you off at the metro and then will pick you up at the metro and drive you to the shop when your car is ready. read more

I have a Saab and it's hard to find places that will service them anymore. I called in an scheduled a diagnostic appointment. Shawn was very clear about what was involved, that they could check out everything and if I used them to perform the repairs the diagnostic fee would be subtracted from the total bill. Shawn called me back after they had some time to look around to explain that they fixed the misfire issue I took the car in for, but my 19 year old car was in pretty bad shape and needed new hoses and other labor-intensive work that would add up to more than the value of my car. Honestly, I wasn't surprised. The itemized prices were about what I expected (and cheaper than a Saab dealership would have charged if they were still around). Shawn continued to explain they could get my car in safe operating condition, but suggested I consider whether I would be better off putting that money towards a newer car. I greatly appreciated the perspective and happily payed the diagnostic fee when I picked up my car. I was not charged extra for the small repair that fixed the engine misfire, I presume because the charge would have been less than the diagnostic fee. I know my car is safe to drive, but on borrowed time, before anything else brakes. When I find my next car, I'm definitely coming back to Auto Stop for a pre-purchase inspection. But I feel like I haven't been yelping as much over the past few months, and this is one of the places where I can hands down recommend. Luckily, my car hasn't had to have any extensive service done to it over the past year (knock on wood), but I do take my car in for oil changes and annual safety checks here. I've never had a serious problem and they've always been gracious with my time. I think what truly merits the five stars for this place is that they changed the light bulb in one of my rear lights the last time I took it in free of charge! How do you know you've found a great shop for basic maintenance? When they don't try to sell you a new cabin air filter because yours is "dirty". I did my oil change at two other shops in the DC area, and each tried to claim that I needed a new cabin filter. Bull crap. Autostop didn't. Tells you all you need to know. They were thorough, kind, and super helpful as I needed some important work done before a cross country trip.

Total scam. First of all, they charge 130$ to even look at your car and "diagnose the problem". And then they came up with 2,000$ worth of problems that had to be fixed. My engine was overheating and something was leaking, so in the 20 minute span that they looked at the car, they decided that they wanted to replace my water pump, replace my thermometer, clean the belt, wash out the coolant cycliner and do an oil change. They were going to charge me 2,000 for all of that. They didn't even mention to me that my cars water pump was covered under warranty by the Chevy dealership, but they were going to charge me 700$+ to replace it. I ended up paying the 130$, and leaving to a different auto shop. It ended up being solely a thermometer issue and I was not even charged 1/4 of what auto stop wanted to charge me. read more
