How do you know you've found a great shop for basic maintenance? When they don't try to sell you a new cabin air filter because yours is "dirty". I did my oil change at two other shops in the DC area, and each tried to claim that I needed a new cabin filter. Bull crap. Autostop didn't. Tells you all you need to know. Total scam. First of all, they charge 130$ to even look at your car and "diagnose the problem". And then they came up with 2,000$ worth of problems that had to be fixed. My engine was overheating and something was leaking, so in the 20 minute span that they looked at the car, they decided that they wanted to replace my water pump, replace my thermometer, clean the belt, wash out the coolant cycliner and do an oil change. They were going to charge me 2,000 for all of that. They didn't even mention to me that my cars water pump was covered under warranty by the Chevy dealership, but they were going to charge me 700$+ to replace it. I ended up paying the 130$, and leaving to a different auto shop. It ended up being solely a thermometer issue and I was not even charged 1/4 of what auto stop wanted to charge me. read more

Absolute best place to take your car in the area. I have a 10 year old car, that started making a creaking noise while turning, but the noise only ever happened when it was hot out. Because of the intermittence of the sound we knew it might be difficult to diagnose the problem. We took it to Auto Stop, but the first day wasn't hot enough for the car to make the noise. Instead of sending it back to us with a "we don't know", they waited and kept test driving it until they sorted out the noise, which didn't take as long as I was worried it might. Once they had the problem figured out, they were very quick with the repair. They also did a full and very thorough inspection of the car, and replaced a burned out light for us while the it was in the shop. Throughout the whole process they had fantastic customer service and were extremely friendly. If you need a mechanic in the area, I can not recommend this place enough. read more

Hello, I was referred to this auto stop because my friend said they were very good and professional, more like scammers that is!!! I needed my transmission fluid changed and a checkup for leaks, I had researched on YouTube how to do the work myself and most videos didn't take more than 10min. They checked my car, theese men assumed I was ignorant because I'm a woman and told me it would take ONE HOUR just to look at it with a black flash light. I had to stop by the DMV so I let them do it anyway. Terrible mistake!!! They ended charging me for just looking at it a total of $83.72 They told me they had to lift my car and put special fluid and that I should drive it for a couple of miles and return later in the week to see where the leak was. I did so, when I returned with my car they checked it again and told me I had to pay $600 to fix the leak and change my transmission fluid all toguether. I said I would check with my bank first and took it to a friend. When my friend checked it for FREE, he told me they had left a couple of pipes unplugged and my other fluids where leaking out too, they were not unplugged to begin with!!! I have been coming here for over a decade. and always had a great experience. Back in the days the owner was always there and was super helpful. Last February I brought my old car for an oil change. A representative came out after speaking to the mechanic and with a smirk asked me who did my last oil change. He was talking to me like it was a funny matter - I am convinced he would not talk like that to a guy. I asked him to please tell me what was wrong with the car and he told me that the previous mechanic screwed the bolt too tightly and now it was broken, but I should not worry at all because for $550 they could change the entire oil pan. At that time my old car was valued at that amount. I told him that I was not going to make that investment into a car I was about to trade and he started scaring me how they would not take responsibility if my car stopped on a highway because the engine dies. I asked him to do whatever they needed to do to put the bolt back the way it was when I brought the car. The experience was demeaning enough for me that I won't go back. I brought a 2009 Toyota Camry in for pre-purchase inspection, and Richard and Sean were absolute pros and incredibly helpful. They squeezed me in at the last minute, and went over the car with a fine tooth comb. I was on the verge of buying a used car, so Sean took about 20-30 minutes of his time to walk me through important engine maintenance, the reliability of various models, things to look out for, and expectations for used car purchasing. On top of that, they found huge issues with the car- likely $4000 worth of repairs that would be necessary soon- that the dealer either didn't know about or didn't tell me about. I've used Auto Stop for a while and always been pleased with their service but this past week they earned a customer for life. I took my 2006 Forester in after having had it at the dealer for recalls where they shared I needed some significant work. Always a little wary of the dealer, I brought the car into Auto Stop the next day to see what was needed and what might be dealer add on with the intention of having Auto Stop do the necessary work. The work needed was significant and far more than I wanted to put into a 13 year old car; I was more than happy to pay for this second opinion and the team at Auto Stop insisted it was complementary...wow! Fast forward two days to car shopping...I knew I wanted to buy a new used given I do not drive a significant amount. I brought a three year old Outback in for a pre-purchase inspection and Richard was good enough to take me into the shop and show me some of the things that made him very wary of this particular vehicle; I took a pass on the car (thank you!!) Two days later I brought in another Outback and again the guys gave it a good look over - this one was much better but there were still a few issues. This gave me bargaining points for the dealership; the dealership wasn't interested in negotiating and again, I took a pass. Saturday I drove an Outback with better miles and exterior body condition and I called Alex around 1:00 and asked if there was anyway they could fit me in for a pre-purchase inspection before closing at 3:00...he told me no problem. This car was in much better shape and again, the pre-purchase inspection gave me a few negotiating points for the dealer...and they quickly and easily agreed to everything. So as of today I am the owner of a 2016 Outback and I feel confident that I've got a great car thanks to the guys at Auto Stop. While I hope I need nothing more than the occasional oil change or state inspection for the next few years, Auto Stop is the only place I will bring my car and I will recommend them to anyone looking for an honest, reliable mechanic. My most recent repair was a very expensive and complicated air conditioning job on my Honda Civic. Richard took lead on this one and basically had to replace almost the entire system, but was extremely thorough and stuck with it until everything was working just right. There ended up needing additional repairs beyond the estimate but they didn't charge me for them since they weren't part of the quote. Do not go to Auto Stop if you are a woman. I have been cheated and embarrassed at Auto Stop by having to fight to get my car towed and repaired after it stopped working immediately after they worked on it, sold a faulty pump that broke within 24 months, and lectured by the salesman about how my car was in such bad shape that he wouldn't let his wife drive it (the car has been doing great since I switched mechanics). This place has changed hands, but the new lobby and better coffee doesn't make up for the horrible service. We came to do a state inspection at 9 am. They told us it'll take 2 hours. We called at 11 and they said they took our car to another location and they don't actually do it. We won't get our car back until closing time. Update: We found the place that did the inspections and they moved our car up the line so they finished within 30min.
