Went here to get my annual VA safety inspection. It was first come first serve, which is great! I only waited no more than than 5-7 mins for the previous car to finish its inspection then the inspector took my car in to the bay. He did a full inspection and thankfully I passed, paid the govt standard fee of $20 and the process was complete. This place is very efficient and professional. Very easy inspection/emissions process. Just get in line in the designated lane along Shirlington Road and wait to be waived over to the first maintenance booth. I was in and out in about 20 min (w one car ahead of me). $50 and my info was updated in the DMV by the time I got home to push the registration renewal through. read more

I had heard about the new RapidPass system created by the state and decided to give it a try this year as I needed to get my emissions inspection soon so drove by a RapidPass site back in October. After waiting over two months for a qualification notice and constantly checking the website, it never came and the RapidPass office was unresponsive to emails. I decided to go to this Exxon to get it over with and im so glad I did! Really appreciate how quick and efficient it was. There was no line and they completed my emissions inspection within 5 minutes of arrival. They charged $30, the same price as RapidPass. Dont bother with the state RapidPass program. Too unreliable and it was a complete waste of time! read more

Went for my annual vehicle inspection. Usually I like to get there when they open and get in the line, but this time I got there early afternoon and wasn't sure who was where in the line. One of the attendants came out to point me in the right direction and each time the line moved he directed those on the overspill line where to go. It took a bit to eventually get to the front of the line, but when I did my inspection couldn't have been any quicker. Not sure what they inspected, I'm used to cars having the wheels taken off and brake pads inspected, but maybe it's not required in VA. Oh well, my car would have zero chance of not passing, not sure about some others though and they were herded through just as quickly. read more

I visited them to have my state inspection done. The car passed, but they broke the door handle on the inside by pulling too hard on it. They would not take responsibility for it. So now I have to get it replaced myself. Do not go to this place. They're not responsible. read more

Car engine stopped running on the highway was taken to Shirlington Road Exxon on Dec 27, 2024. They were authorized to trouble shoot and diagnose the problem. Barry, the owner/operator, called latter and advised the fuel pump was bad and I authorized the replacement. When the car was picked up the next day the bill included the unauthorized cost of an oil change and $40.00 for gas. I queried Barry about the additional charges. He said the oil was dirty and needed replacing and that when he sees a job needs doing he goes ahead and does it. With regards to the gas charge he said he had to put gas in the car because of the fuel pump replacement. I told him the oil was recently changed and did not need changing and that the car's fuel gage read 1/4 full when the car was left. He said he would not remove the charges and walked away going back into the bays. I paid the entire charge to get the hostage (car) released. On Dec 30 I returned to the station with documentation showing that the oil was changed on Oct, 16 , 2024 . The car had only traveled 180 miles when they changed the oil. He blamed Jim, a.k.a. Jimbo (former station operator, now an employee with 50 years experience) and returned the cost of oil change saying he would do nothing about the gas charge. I left the station after making note of their pump price for 93 octane ($4.199) per gallon and drove 1/2 mile to another gas station (corner of 4 mile Run and Walter Reed) There 16. 82 gallons of 93 octane was pumped into the car's fuel tank Note: the gas was $.60 a gallon cheaper than at Shirlington Road Exxon. Conclusion: $40.00 should have bought approximately 9.52 gallons of 93 octane at $4.199 per gal at Shirlington Road Exxon . 9.52 gal plus 16.82 gals equals 26.34 gallons. 6.34 gallons more than the fuel tank holds per the car manufacture's specification. Note: the car was driven only 4.5 miles after being picked up on the fuel being topped off by me. The operator and at least one of his staff lack integrity. I recommend you take your vehicles elsewhere an also buy your fuel a 1/2 mile away and save yourselves some money. This place ripped me off. read more

I have been going to Jim ever since I moved from Maryland to VA. He is very honest and upfront. He has exceptional mechanical skills, and is always able to pinpoint the problem. He has even gone to get me a hubcap for my old Corolla, back in the day, at a junkyard, since they were no longer being made new. Today, I had a scrape on the passenger side, in the front, and was not able to open that door. I went to him, and he tried to no avail. However, he recommended his "go to" body shop. I went, immediately, and they told me I may have to replace the whole door (cost around $1,500). Then, he got a second opinion and said they would take a look. Within, a half hour it was fixed, without charge. Such wonderful customer service from both businesses. I was so pleased! Thank you, thank you! I wish more businesses operated this way. read more

Normally in other Exxons they would make me wait for hours/days until they can get to my vehicle, but this place gets things done in an instant. When it came to getting some further work done though, the owner or manager (grey headed and large) was so rude that I vowed to NEVER give them any more of our business. My husband and I were recommended this shop by a friend for us to get our oil change and any work we may need on our vehicles. We had purchased our own oil & filter, we were just looking for someone to do the labor. My husband went there on a Monday evening 30 minutes before closing to have the oil changed completed. The oil change was not do correctly and in fact the mechanic due to his laziness and inattentiveness overfilled the engine oil so much that it will cause irreplaceable damage to our new Toyota Avalon Hybrid motor if we do not get the extra oil out. In addition to completely overfilling the oil, the mechanic did not drain all of the old oil out, so the new oil is still contaminated with the old oil. Also, the mechanic was careless about the interior of the car and protecting it in any way. The steering wheel, door handle, gear shifter were all covered in oil as well as oil finger prints on the white hood of the car. We have spent 2 days with the car being immobile due to the over flow and trying to figure out how to get the extra oil out of the car without spending to much more money and without causing damage to the car. I WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT EVER RECOMMEND THIS SHOP TO ANYONE!! HORRIBLE. CARELESS. DISRESPECTFUL. read more

Stopped by for a safety inspection and gas. Very quick service. Since the inspection sticker now must be on the lower part of the windshield on the driver's side, the inspector had to carefully remove an (expensive!) parking garage sticker and replace it for me. He did a great job and the sticker looks good as new! read more

Stepped out of the house Monday afternoon to pick a friend up at the airport and realized I'd basically spent the entire month of November saying "Oh yeah. Have to get my safety inspection done." without actually ever going to do it. So upon dropping my friend at her home, I looped around and came here - the closest service station. It was 3pm so no line for inspections and all was relatively uneventful. Irksome however that the guy finished my inspection and after 15 min of my car was still just sitting there and the technician having moved on to bring a car into another empty bay and start inspecting that. I finally said something to the person behind the register and he went and got the guy to finish writing up the inspection slip for my car so I could pay and leave. Should have taken 15 min and instead took 35. Just irritating. I've used them before and I probably will again if I forget to get the bloody thing done on time, but I don't head here by choice. They do have some of the cheaper gas in the area though. read more

We went here because we needed air in our tires and gas in the engine and got exactly what we wanted quite easily. Pumps in good condition and no aggravation (such as from beggars or whatever). I took my car in to get my emissions test. I picked up my car and noticed that I couldn't open my hood. When I brought the car back they said it broke while they were fixing my car. They should have notified me. It was only after some struggling did they agree to fix the hood. However I had to pay half the labor.
