My garage door tension spring broke two days before Thanksgiving and on the day I was going to drive to Penngrove to pick up my Willie Bird turkey. The person on the phone was attentive and customer savvy, she understood my plight. She called me back to let me know "help was on the way". The company's email was hacked and the hackers contacted me through AGD's business email account (agdmarin@yahoo.com -- with all the regular email signatures etc on the email) to change my method of my deposit payment minutes after having talked to Ann via email establishing I would pay via check. I agreed to Zelle it, as the email requested, and replied to AGD's official business email that they can request it from me on zelle and completed the zelle request for $2500 that was sent to me for the established deposit amount. AGD later called me asking me when I would pay and I alerted them to the situation. Ann seemed to admit that it must have been a scam but they did not make efforts to accept responsibility or make it right. On our next call, Ann said they had someone look at their stuff and they didn't have any viruses. It's a hack.. not a virus. This is what two-factor and authenticators are for. I felt incredibly dismissed by Ann and she did not offer any solutions from AGD - said to tell my bank and I offered to let them know what they said. I had to call AGD multiple times to explain what happened because they had ultimately denied to me that they had been hacked. The Novato police told me they had to have been hacked (I had filed a police report and explained to Ann that my bank denied the fraud claim on zelle because it was sent by me and not due to my accounts being hacked). Still no offer to make it right, she wanted me to give them MORE money before getting a door installed still. The whole situation started to feel sketchy. Then I was now supposed to be out ~$7500 without even having a door installed yet with a company that was treating me poorly?? Against the recommendations of everyone I told about this situation and my contractor, I gave them ample opportunities to make it right, offer ANY sort of discount and realize that probably all of their customers info from an email account Tony told me they have been using for 15 years was compromised and leaked. People are telling me to sue in small claims. This actually seems like a serious breach of customer privacy that the State of CA takes seriously. After three months (!!!) of hoping the situation would be handled properly by Tony and Ann of AGD; I finally got demanding and a little confrontational (not easy for me - i'm not confrontational!!) instead of continuing to be patient and understanding of a local business who was also partly victimized and didn't seem to grasp the seriousness of it. Tony said something along the lines of his attorney told him he's not liable and he didn't have a zelle account, so what do I want from him. It was very telling that I see this as AGD only cares about whether there is a legal liability when it comes to handling sensitive customer service issues. In February I had left it with Ann that I was waiting for them to reach back out and tell me what they were going to offer since I refused to pay full price $2500 deposit again). They said they called me and left and message and I never followed up so they figured it was over and sent back the door I wanted - I don't see a voicemail from them on my phone from them, so I'm frankly questioning that. In the end (almost 3 months after this went down and tons of calls -- I finally started saying this is bullsh!t!!) Tony offered $500 off the ~$5000 door and install cost and I refused the request because it was entirely too little too late and chose to walk away WITH HAVING LOST $2500, than to deal with this company. I have filed with Attorney General of CA for the scam / data breach and DOJ for the scam as well. I feel left out to dry. read more

I was extremely by these folks. I had them replace the broken springs on my Amarr garage door. I did not originally purchase the door from them, but they were listed on Amarr's website as an authorized supplier. Automatic Garage Door called Amarr and asked them to provide the springs under Amarr's Lifetime Hardware Warranty (which I paid extra for when I bought the door), even though I did not buy the door from Automatic Garage Door. This was pretty impressive service, since another Company I contacted wanted nothing to do with getting the springs under warranty. The service technician that installed the springs was friendly, efficient, competent, and patient with all my questions. I highly recommend this company and would definitely do business with them again. Also, their price for installing the new springs was quite reasonable. read more

I called Wednesday morning and spoke with Anne; I explained that my mom's garage door was not working and it needed to be fixed ASAP. I was fortunate enough that Tony and his team came to help my garage door drama today. Automatic Garage Door had previously replaced some tension springs successfully, so when I had a new issue I went to contact them. **However, I somehow was routed to another company who claimed to be "Automatic Garage Door." I caught wind of this shady situation and told that company not to come, but they showed up anyway claiming to be from Automatic Garage Door when they arrived. The fraud company even went as far of impersonating one of the people that works for ADG (yes this really happened). After many lies, excuses, and scam tactics, the fraud company left and Tony arrived later in the day. Tony fixed the issues in an extremely professional, fair, and responsible manner. My summary is that ADG is great, don't hesitate calling these guys to help you out. But beware there is a company out there scamming people impersonating ADG (and probably other establishments). Just had Tony and his crew replace our large garage door. The customer service was wonderful. They were so easy to work with, so attentive, very friendly and accommodating. They installed the custom garage door yesterday, repaired something on our other door at NO cost and left everything clean and tidy. There was a very small dent in the bottom panel of the new door. Some sell the 1/2 hp motor, some the 3/4 power motor. We went with Automatic who gave a clean quote for a slightly higher priced (and powered) 3/4 hp opener. Here are the best parts: A) Every part of the transaction was pleasant. No hassles, period. B) This new opener is whisper quiet and doesn't struggle and jerk! I feel more peaceful entering and leaving my house without all that garage door noise "drama". This new opener is so worth the little bit of extra money over a 1/2 hp model. The owner needs anger management. He became very aggressive when he asked me where some missing parts were for the door. He apparently thought my tone was not right. I thought he should have known about the fix since he did look at the door the day before. That's his business to know exactly what is needed for the repair. I repair automobiles for a living. Very complicated and much liability entailed. A garage door repair is a piece of cake compared to my job. Hey owner get a grip on your anger. The employee that fixed the door did it in a timely manor and was professional. I'm giving 4 stars for the job done by the employee but a 0 for the owner with the bad attitude. He gave me a 2 hour time window in which he would arrive and showed up within the stated time. He was courteous, and professional to me. After looking at my door he was able to determine that the issue was not as severe as it might have been and the work he did took less time and money then he had originally anticipated.
