There are many great garage door services in Marin, Sonoma, SF, these guys are not among them. I was charged 490.00 in June 2016 to replace a pair of garage door springs. One spring looked brand new (see photo), the other looked old, oxidized and shorter in length than the other (see photo). The older looking spring snapped several days ago. I thought it strange when the springs were installed in 2016 with the distinct differences between the two. Tony said the spring has a 1 year warranty, but will come out to replace for labor at 110.00 chalking it up as a fluke making sure I knew he's doing me a favor. After a bit of research, much is dependent on the height, weight, coil and other factors and the number of cycles the door is used (opening is 1 cycle, closing is another). Typically, for my average height garage, it's 10-50K cycles. I was no where near opening and closing my garage as I am very cognizant of this. I called 3 garage places that quoted a rate of 300-390 in 2019 dollars with a spring warranty of 3 to 10 years. I know, right, how is it possible other garage door companies uses springs that have 3-10 years warranty. I have a standard garage door, nothing special. Tony was annoyed with a temper, when I asked a few more questions on the coil diameter, spring length and mostly the difference between the springs' appearance. He said there's NOTHING WRONG, and he's been charging nearly 500.00 to replace a pair springs for a decade. Ok, I kept my mouth shut, the photos speaks volumes. After 15 mins, and 110.00 he replaced the snapped spring with a new looking spring, see photo, ah, both springs seem similar. Stay away from these guys! I only used these guys because the owner of the home used them decades ago and they replaced my opener in 2012. I will of course tell everyone about these guys and the 600.00 to replace springs. Not exactly trust worthy. I would recommend you should do some price comparison and reviews before using these guys as there are so many great companies, in SF A-Z garage, GS Overhead in Marin and others without a single negative comment. If I could give negative stars I would. The only salvation was the lovely woman on the phone that coordinates the scheduling. My garage door main spring broke over the 4th of July weekend and of course know one was available to repair it. I left a detailed message for Automatic Garage Door on Saturday (they have repaired our door before) and know one called me back. I called again on Monday and explained that the main spring was broken and we had to have the fire department come and cut the cables to get our cars out. They scheduled the repair for Wednesday from 1-3. They (Tony) showed up and gave me an estimate for a new door and said they didn't have the spring to replace it and couldn't do anything to fix it because they had other calls they had to make. Tony was rude, disrespectful and didn't have the time of day and said I could get someone else to do it they were very busy. Frustrated I got online and found Door Pros of Marin. They were friendly, polite, efficient and understanding. The repair person called me back within 30 minutes and said he would be here in 10 minutes!!! Bobby came to the house, took a look, saw what needed to be done and got to work immediately!!! He replaced the spring and the cables and the wheels on the sides of the tracks. Did a complete safety inspection, made suggestions and recommendations to prolong the life of the door and gave me options for replacing the heavy wood door if that's what we decide down the road! The extensive repair that he performed was also done for 3/4 of the price that Automatic Garage had "guesstimated". I can highly recommend Tony and Automatic Garage Door of Marin. I have an older, one panel garage door that many other garage door companies will not even look at. This was not a problem for Tony. As the garage door would not close from the cars' opener, Tony told me what to check for before I even made an appointment. I find it a rare good business that will tell you how to fix your problem without charging you. Unable to resolve the issue myself, Tony fixed the problem and showed me how to maintain the opener myself. I needed to be able to open our over 30 year old electric garage door manually in a situation where we lost power. The only access we have to the garage is through the electric garage door. Every one of my numerous contacts with automatic garage door of marin were very positive. Ann who answered the phone and who has been with the business 30 years, was very helpful in responding to my questions. She listened to me, asked relevant questions and came up with a couple of solutions to my problem. She was very good at explaining how a "vault" works. The vault would let me open the garage door manually. Once I decided what I wanted to do, I called again. Even though I got a different person, he already knew about my situation. It was very easy to schedule the installation of a vault in a very short time frame, for my electric garage. They were very flexible with my schedule. The price was very reasonable. I called again the next morning to give somewhat complicated directions to my house. I was given to Dustin who would be the one coming out. It was very easy giving him the directions. He called again when he was 15 minutes from the house. I was so happy with Dustin's work. Not only did he replace the vault very quickly and professionally, but he also noticed that some of the garage bolts were loose and tightened them. The biggest help was that Dustin fixed the light on the garage door motor so it would stay on. I had expected he would not be able to help me with this problem because of the age of the garage door opener. This light used to stay on by manually connecting a connector to the motor box. Many years ago the wire aged and the connector fell off. I have had to use lamps in the garage for light. I couldn't believe that Dustin had a connector and was able to get it to connect to the wire. Voila, now I have light again in the garage! He did not charge anything extra for doing this. I would definitely use this company again for any garage door needs. read more

After having a very difficult time with the other garage door repair company to schedule visits and then their failure to fix my garage door properly and over diagnose it with problems, ... it was like a "breath of fresh air" to deal with Ann and Tony at Automatic Garage Door of Marin. It was super easy to schedule with Ann on the phone and Tony was super competent and super assertive/competent in fixing the problem with my garage door. I was going for a walk... I shut the garage door and then, "boom" it crashes to the ground (usually has a bit of clearance on the bottom). The cable had come off on one side, frayed on the other and the spring broken. Uh-oh, my car was stuck in the garage and I had to pick up the kids later. Automatic Garage Door to the rescue! I called and Ann answered the phone. She just walked in the door but was able to listen with empathy and promised to help me out. I did have to call back after an hour or two to check on progress but within minutes of my second call, she called me back with good news. She could get a guy down to my house within 45 minutes. Have called them about three times in the past (and paid quite well, thank you!). This time, the door kept bouncing up. They came 6 months earlier for same problem and "fixed it "for $90. I will give 1 star just because they installed my garage door years ago. I've used them twice to service the door and they did a half ass job but charged plenty for it. The last time they came out because the door kept self opening after closing. The service person said the problem was fixed but the problem returned right after he left. I actually discover that the close limit device was just loose on the track and fixed it by tightening the screw. I called them to tell them this and they didn't even offer to refund the $100 I was charged. I now use Northgate Garage Door or San Rafael. They have better pricing and excellent service and experience. In fact they had to correct a few things that were done wrong when the door was originally installed. Do NOT use Automatic Garage Door of Marin unless you want an improperly installed garage door and like paying higher rates. read more

Automatic Door was referred to me as one of the few professionals that work on old solid one piece garage doors. Many of the current doors are roll up doors with few people either schooled or have the parts for doors such as mine. The door spring broke on the evening prior and after a call the next morning Tony was able to come out in the pm and quickly surveyed the problem, had the parts on his truck, installed the repair, adjusted the door to a better up position which made the motor work less thus adding additional life to my existing door and provided a general quote for a new door....no pressure. Tony's effort was reminiscent of an 'old school' tradesman. No BS. arrived as committed, surveyed the problem, put a solution in place for a reasonable sum, was polite, shook my hand and thanked me and drove off with his trusty dog in the back seat frisbee in mouth ready for the next appointment.....just like the old days. We have a 14 year old garage door that functions well but it made a loud squeaky noise on the way up. Noisy enough to bother the neighbors @ 6:00 AM. My 19 year old automatic garage door would only raise up about a foot so I called AGD of Marin. Tony arrived an hour later and diagnosed the problem as a broken spring. Tony and I raised up the garage door manually and my wife backed the car out. The spring was an unusual size and had to be ordered so he took a deposit and said he would call when he received the spring. The next day he called and said he had the spring and could install it that day. We made an appointment for between 11 AM and 2 PM and he arrived just before 11 AM. Automatic Garage Door of Marin is super! I called a repair to my HO Warranty and Ann called the next morning (Monday) to set an appointment and was so professional. We set it for Friday because of some conflicts. Later that morning she called and asked if I was home as Tony would come out in 1/2 hour and I said great! He checked it out and saw it was the receiver. He called that afternoon to say it was approved for replacement. Jason was here at 10AM this morning to install the new unit and was professional and wonderful to deal with. It was done in an hour and he set my car unit too.
