I went Saturday and looked at a car at automax Haley came out I decided on a 2024 Volkswagen a African-American man took a picture of my vehicle guess he was the manager there . I brought my 2016 Jeep in there to trade it in okay they offer me $4,000 for my trade in . I went this morning and got the check my car end up stopping on me and the holes around my radiator end up shooting out water. I asked for the dealer fee and any other associated charges. He would not give me the information. He insisted on getting a copy of my license and having me drive the vehicle. I told him multiple times that I did not need to drive the car. It's essentially new with 700 miles on the odometer. I asked again about the reconditioning fee and he would not give the figure again. Why would there be a reconditioning fee on a car with 700 miles. I had payment in my pocket and he told me if I did not drive it, there was no deal to be had. He said "take it or leave it". I went back to Automax Ocala because we've had good service and an easy experience through the buying process. We bought a car there several years back and at that time we were told that every car that is for sale on the lot had been gone through thoroughly and you can by with confidence. Having that reputation and attitude gave us peace of mind to go back and purchase our next vehicle. Well, a few months back, we purchased a Chevrolet Suburban and really liked the car. About a month after buying it, it became very evident that the transmission was bad , so we spent $600 out of pocket to have the transmission serviced to see if that would fix it. Not only did that not fix the transmission, but the coolant started getting low for the motor without any apparent leaks leaving me to believe that not only was the transmission having catastrophic failure , but the engine was also having catastrophic failures. We contacted our salesman and he told us that we could bring it in and trade it in on a different vehicle. We picked out a vehicle that had less miles on it and we were told that it wasn't even on the lot yet to be sold, sbut they would put it through detailing and service and it would be ready for us to test drive . Our understanding was that it wasn't being shown yet and it would be there when we got there. We rearranged our entire Friday to go up and make the trade, as we are extremely busy people and we live an hour away. We were literally five minutes away when we received a phone call that the car we were going to look at had been sold right out from under us. That in and of itself is completely unacceptable.. The salesman encouraged us to come and look anyway. The only vehicle that was like what we needed, actually had more miles than the original vehicle we had bought, but we were in a tight spot knowing that the vehicle was not road worthy and my wife needs a reliable vehicle for work. Reluctantly, we bought the vehicle, believing that surely they would stand behind it, because they sold us a bad vehicle and sold the potential replacement vehicle out from under us. Two weeks after we bought the GMC Yukon, the transmission started making the same noise as the Suburban. And we took it to the mechanic and found out that it had a bad transmission as well. I immediately texted my salesman and got no answer. It wasn't until I called for his supervisor that I was able to get anyone to talk to me. I found out that it didn't matter to them about my whole circumstance. They would not stand behind their vehicle and I'm responsible for any and all costs for the repairs needed or that if I traded it in , I would have to pay the difference on the trade in.. We are honest and hard working people and can't afford this. My advice would be to go elsewhere. read more

I was looking for a Nissan Titan and AutoMax had a 2021 with only 12,000 miles. I went to AutoMax and found it on their lot. All pictures and descriptions of the truck online matched what I saw in person. Our salesperson Maria approached us and helped us with the truck. She was very kind. She got the keys for the truck and let us look at it. We took it for a test drive and I fell in love with the truck. The truck still had the new car smell that I love and even parts of the truck wasn't even used. Some parts still stored inside in plastic. The truck is mint! Not sure where they get their cars, but a lot of the cars on the lot looked great. Huge selection of great cars, but I had my eyes on that Titan. Maria was very easy to work with, didn't make me feel any pressure, or uncomfortable at all. All the staff was very nice, courteous, and outgoing. Not once did a feel like I was fresh blood in a pool of sharks. You know that typical dealership feeling. I didn't get that once with anyone at AutoMax. The process was very quick and painless. I kept waiting for some kind of catch. I didn't try to get them to lower the price either. Their prices are very fair. Compared to carmax, carvana, and other dealers I was looking at, they had the best truck at the best price. I was selling my car on the street the next day and was using that money for a down payment. We completed all the paperwork that day and they held my truck overnight for me. Maria kept in contact with great communication the next day. I sold my old car on the street, came back to give them the down payment and pick up my truck. They filled the gas tank to full on the truck, yes even with these gas prices and a big truck, they filled it up. I was impressed. I was transferring my old plates, they took my plates and put them on the truck for me, and gave me a new registration. They gave me all my papers and the keys and we were on our way. It was really a quick and painless process. The inside building is really cool looking too. A really comfortable atmosphere. When we're ready to trade in our other car, we will be going to AutoMax Ocala again. read more

I'm writing this review to warn perspective buyers that, in my experience, 1) AutoMax Ocala puts on a face of an ethical and hospitable business, but disposes of it quickly if and when any issues should arise; and 2) AutoMax Ocala was willing to gloss over issues, to include safety issues, with me, which should make perspective buyers question what issues they'll gloss over with them. My experience: I purchased a used 2022 Acura MDX from AutoMax Ocala in May 2024. As was expressed to my sales associate, the vehicle was being purchased for my very pregnant wife to cart around our future child. I drove 150+ miles to make the purchase, with the representation that the vehicle lacked any material defects or notable issues. Upon arrival I obviously found a few flaws (like no second key fob and wheel locks, but no key - details conveniently omitted by both the sales listing and associate), but was able to get over those and opted to bear those expenses myself later. However, what I could not bear were the issues found at a local Acura dealership upon completion of a detailed inspection and more notably, AutoMax Ocala's complete disregard and courtesy to work out a solution. Not only did the inspection find 3 of the 4 wheels to have excessive (and poorly done) repair work completed, which could not be fully seen with the tires sitting on them, but also found that the vehicle was sold to me with 2 DIFFERENT brands of tires on it. 2 different brands of tires, with 2 different tire tread patters, shined-up well to make the discrepancy less obvious to the eye. I was told by Acura that a dealership willing to sell a vehicle like this was highly questionable and unprofessional. Hard for me to disagree and hard for me to accept any possible safety concerns this posed for my wife and unborn child. I called my sales associate and customer services representative, whom both had expressed strong convictions for a transparent and quality sales experience, to work out a solution, however, was greeted, in summary, with "my boss said too bad" and the vehicle had already been sold to me at a deep discount - I paid asking price on the listing, without an attempt to negotiate lower. Regardless, neither of these responses show any hospitality and more importantly, business ethics. **Tony L - in response to your comment: Yes, I'm looking for you to take a "further step" to help rectify the situation. As a follow up, 3 days after my purchase my truck started experiencing harsh down shifts that made the tires squeal, no cruise control and one day later an engine light code indicating 6th cylinder misfire. You would think they would stand behind what they sell and take the vehicle back, but I was told to take it to Nissan to get it worked on. $31k for a truck with 49k miles and after 3 days I am told to take it to Nissan in hopes that they might fix it. I knew when I noticed green coolant mixed with the orange in the reservoir I should have walked, but I paid to have that flushed and now I am having these problems and Automax is no help. For the love of God, do NOT buy a vehicle here. It was easily the worst car buying experience of my life! To keep it brief, they sold my husband a vehicle (we put 10k down) and a month later the transmission solenoid went out. While it was in the shop getting repaired, automax was USELESS in getting him a rental so that he could continue working. We argued with them and their GM , Tony for WEEKS to get reimbursement for the rental we had to pay for due to the negligence of Automax. Many MANY arguments later they gave us $500 to go away and told us to take our review off the BBB (I also HIGHLY recommend you read their BBB complaints. This is not new behavior for them). I did some research in the parking lot and decided the price was not unreasonable so I decided to move forward. When I went in and presented my pre approved promissory note from Navy Federal Credit Union I was told they do not accept that banks financing. Knowing that Navy Federal Credit Union is the largest bank serving Veterans and protecting them from predatory sales practices I have to wonder what is wrong with this dealership. Walked toward the Genesis G80 I purchased and the car salexman hands me the key fob. I asked where is 2nd key fob. He said "we don't have it". What every car comes with 2 key fobs. He didn't even say sorry. I then purchased a key card from Genesis and made appointment for them to program at Jenkins Hyundai Ocala. Two different guys spent 2 hours trying to program and said I needed original mother key fob or both keys. Genesis will not refund the $80 for key card. Asked Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala for 2nd key fob quote and they never responded. Went to a locksmith and he quoted me $220 for Genesis key fob and programming. Key came in a few days later. He could not program. Needed a new pin code which cost another $120. Still could not program told me to come back tomorrow so he could do some research. Overall, happy with my car. Not quite as happy with the dealership. Dan, my salesman, could not have been nicer or more apologetic for the delays in getting my sale done - although, in my opinion, it was one of the fastest car purchases I've ever endured so I have no complaints there or with Dan Gallagher. Also, the F&I guy, Jessie, was efficient and had me out the door within 10 minutes, once I got to his office. HURRAY for that. My complaint is with the dealership's pricing and fees (things that are out of Dan's or Jessie's control). They advertised the car I purchased on Autotrader.com for $27250, however the actual sales price was over $29,000, and then they gave me some "credit" for trading in a car and something else - I'd prefer transparency up-front, thanks. Then they tack on $795.00 for "predelivery service charge", which in my opinion, and my experience working at a major Toyota dealer in Wisconsin, should be factored into the price of the car. On top of that, then they tack on another $800 or so for "documentation". I love the car and I'm not prone to quibble about a few dollars here and there, so we did end up sealing the deal, but I'm a little disappointed in this sort of "sleight of hand". I am not sure that I would have driven 90 minutes to buy this car if I'd KNOWN that it's price was going to be inflated significantly by fees and dealership charges. They also try to justify rather low trade-in valuation by adding the tax-savings into the trade-in value - that really should not be considered as part of the trade's value, that should stand entirely on its own. Lastly, on our way home, we realized they didn't even wash the car. UGH... my "new" car was all dirty so we couldn't show it off. For $1500 in dealer fees, they could have detailed the exterior, in my opinion. //UPDATE 2/20/2022 - Dan G called to apologize to me that my car was not cleaned before it was delivered to me and made arrangements for me to get it detailed at my convenience.
