AutoTrends is definitely a quality repair shop. I have been to them for a few different services, mostly oil changes which are extremely reasonably priced. I tend to only go to them for oil changes and never have any issues. I will say for other services they are on the more expensive end but they guarantee their work if you use their parts, however if you want to use your own parts they will accommodate but won't guarantee work. They replaced an alternator/starter for me and years later it still works great, if you have the extra money to spend they are a great option, however if you are more price conscious you may need to look into other shops. read more

I feel completely ripped off! I went in stating nothing was blowing from my ac/heat (goal was to get AC working properly). They sweet talked me into getting it tested ($160) and then once that was completed, let me know what was going on and then quoted me a price to fix it. Gave the okay to repair, only to get my car blowing air but its hot air ($473)! Instead of taking folks money there needs to be an explanation of ALL the services that would need to be repaired for everything to be working properly and the dollar amounts! They get you by having great customer service! Will not be back nor recommend to others! read more

Working with USAA, we had a 2011 car that wouldn't start towed here, as this was said to be a preferred shop for USAA service and repairs. We called the shop to give them a heads up our car was coming in. The tow truck driver said we likely needed a new battery since the terminals appeared corroded (the battery was over 5 years old). He was able to get it jumped but he still towed it to the shop to be sure it could get to a location for any necessary repairs. Yet, when the technician at Autotrends looked at the car he told us nothing appeared wrong and because it's starting and they won't do anything more for us. We asked about replacing the battery anyway since we knew it was pretty old and he wouldn't even give us a quote because "every car is different." Obviously they had no interest in doing any sort of work on this car, which was frustrating since USAA only allows towing to their preferred locations. Found a different local shop willing to do the work to replace our old battery and got the car there ourselves. If you're with USAA roadside assistance I would suggest finding another one of their preferred shops to tow your car to, these folks are not really interested in helping. Will also be informing USAA of this experience, hoping they might reconsider using this shop as a preferred vendor. read more

Took my car to have power steering diagnosed and quote, they took my car hostage and said the battery was dead when it was working fine or how else did I drive it around beforehand, found my power steering pump was leaking and quoted me $1300 for the serpentine belt, power steering pump, and battery. Tell me how that makes any sense? A belt costs $20, a battery is $200, and the power steering pump is $160 so about $500 in parts and your telling me diagnostic and labor is $800+??? And remember guys mechanics and auto part stores get parts for whole sale price or discounted. I would not recommend this place at all, be smart and shop around or be wary because these guys will rip you off and then some. 0/5 stars if I could. read more

Great service above and beyond what I would have expected. I was in and out in no time and their waiting area was very nice. They were very clear about what was happening with my car so I never was worried I was getting fooled. Topped off my fluids and even vacuumed! To be frank, as a woman finding a new mechanic you always have the thought in the back of your head "am I going to be taken advantage of" but that was never a concern here. When another mechanic I tried spoke super condescendingly to me and tried to charge a crazy amount for an oil change ($95??? Crazy) I came here and I'm so glad. Reasonable prices with superior work. This place is awesome. Dependable service and the let you supply your own parts. I'm all about saving some dough wherever I can. I brought my own oil for my oil change saved me about 30 bucks. Last oil change was at the dealership spent at least 60 dollars and that's with a discount. They have done a lot of work for me. I do some smaller stuff myself like changing cabinet filter and air filters. Only one time I was a little trouble with them. They changed out my lights and then my flood lights stopped working. mannnn... if i could give this place negative stars i would. so I got a pressure test which cost me $66 and it came out to be the only problem was a hose. quoted me almost $800 which is completely outrageous so I called a few other shops and each of those shops quoted me less than $200 with parts and labor. So for less than an hours work, they tried to quote me $650 and then $100 for parts less than $50. This place is nothing but a scam, especially if you're young, I asked if they had a fixed rate of labor told me that they had no fixed rate of labor, but tried charging me 650 for less than an hours work. Went to Autotrends for the first time as we just moved to Greensboro. I came in for an oil change, but asked for them to rotate the tires and check the filters. They also suggested to get the brake fluid drained . The service was great and the waiting area was very clean. Compared to pricing in Evanston, Il. this place was veryl affordable. This place creats as many issues as you are willing to pay for instead of fixing the original problem. Granddaughter her car to them for overheating. They said they ran a pressure test and it was the thermostat housing. They charged her for that and then called and said it is a hole in the radiator because when they tried to put coolant in it ran all over. Cant understand why they did not see this during the pressure check. They charged her to replace the radiator.. I should say they ovrcharged her for the radiator. I checked 2 other places that were a lot cheaper. On her way home about a mile away from picking the car up her battery light came on. It was not on when she took the car and it has a new battery. When she called to tell them they sais it might be the alternator. She did not take the car back because we think they set her up for another expensive repair. Stay away from this place they create more problems than they fix. We plan to investigate this further. read more

Instead the manager, Jerry, kind of acted like he didn't even want to deal with me. Instead of discussing with a mechanic on the problem, instead manager wanted the key to car, it was driven in, then just left. Until I told them I had to leave now, and I left. Tldr: the people in charge seem like good people, I'm willing to believe that they do some good work, but the quality of work I got was not only bad but dangerous, and parts were double what someone with no mechanic shop connections pays at Napa or Autozone. Brought my 1990 Jeep here. I want to say first that Gary, the only person I talked to directly, was great. Nice guy, excellent customer service. Can't say the service my car got lived up to it. Needed a new water pump, and the part cost me over twice what I'd pay for it new at a store ($80 v $35). // There's no water pump gasket line item on my bill, so I fear they may not have given me a new one. (If they rolled it into the price of the pump, that still only accounts for another $2 or so.) // Needed my radiator filled (I overheated and blew out my coolant)... was charged $20 for coolant, which is what I'd expect to pay for 2 gallons. My car takes 3 gallons. Checked the levels after leaving the shop, and indeed I needed to add nearly a gallon. // I needed a new serpentine belt, which I could buy at a store for under $30. Here that cost me $75. // The belt was put on poorly, actually sitting on the outside lip of one of the belt wheels... if I leave it there, at best it will wear the belt, at worst the belt will pop off which would be a hassle, potentially expensive (it would at the least require a tow), and a serious safety risk. // While I was looking under the hood I noticed they left my electric fan disconnected. Not sure why they disconnected it, but anyway that's not a great thing when you're having trouble with overheating. // Status updates apparently go out at 10am only. My car went in on a Monday, I was told they'd work on it on Tuesday, I didn't hear anything Tuesday and then first thing Wednesday I was told it was done. Waiting for the next morning to notify me meant I was carless for one day more than I had to be. // So, I'll be measuring the coolant mix, probably flushing it and starting fresh; de-tensioning, shifting, and tensioning the belt; and maybe even taking out the water pump and redoing the install because right now I just don't have that much faith in the job and unfortunately the only way to check is to take it apart. Essentially paid $450 for $100 of parts and the opportunity to do the work again. Luckily I am able to do this work myself, or I'd have to pay for it a second time somewhere else. read more

They are way overpriced. Charge $106 per hour for labor and TWICE the cost of a part. It cost me $215 to change a simple relay switch. Then they "found" a leak in my water pump and wanted to charge a min. of $700 - 2 other places in town quoted me average of $300-$400. They left wires hanging from under my dashboard. The best I can say about this company is that they are polite, but they will never see me again! read more

Don't believe the hype. They have a very lovely lobby and super polite staff, but they charge well more than many of their less glossy competitors. I've taken two of my cars there on two different occasions. I was told the first needed a rebuilt brake system, the second supposedly required a rebuilt transmission. Each quote was approximately $2000, and they insisted the work would take days. I followed my gut and shopped around and found plenty of competent mechanics to fix the problems for substantially less, in less time, and of great quality. Really like these guys. Started bringing our cars to Autotrends when a friend's son told me about them (one of those guys that loves engines). He had said, these guys are honest and do good work, they won't overcharge you. That is exactly what we've found. This came about when a dealer had given us an estimate for work that needed to be done. We went to Autotrends and asked them to check this, this and that. What a difference. Brought my Jeep here because I was having trouble with it overheating at idle and low speeds. I had never been here before, but after reading the good reviews and seeing that they had a specialized Jeep division I figured I'd give it a shot - plus my normal mechanic works weird hours and I needed this problem fixed ASAP. I arrived about 15 mins before my scheduled appointment and the guy at the desk was very friendly. He took my car back right away for them to get started. The waiting room was clean and comfortable, and the free wifi and fresh baked cookies, coffee and water were a nice touch too. They looked it over and were able to replicate the problem, and the guy came to let me know that on the surface everything looked fine (especially with all the new parts from recent work I've had done on it!), but that they would need to do a further diagnosis to find the root of the problem. He let me know the cost and how long this would take. It ended up not taking as long as he quoted me, and when he came back again to let me know the problem he explained it in detail - what they had tested, what was fine, and what the actual problem was. Ended up being my cooling fan that wasn't coming on, which is why I was overheating. The quote he gave me was reasonable and he said he could have it done for me within 2 hours. I went wandering around downtown and came back about an hour and a half later, and it was finished a little before the 2 hour estimate he gave me. No more overheating, plus a 3 year warranty on the repair. The cost was about $60 more than what my normal mechanic charged for the same thing, BUT this was fine with me because the 3 year warranty gives me peace of mind. Everyone was knowledgeable and friendly, and the work was done quickly. I would definitely bring my Jeep here again! read more

If they cant plug into the car and have the computer tell them what to do, they cant do it, and wont admit they cant.i did receive a letter after leaving a neg yahoo review. The Hill family (John and his son John, who now runs it) are honest, fair, very knowledgeable, and low pressure. This is the way a car repair shop is supposed to be. They have always done the work correctly, courteously, and on time. They can work on about anything. The shop is clean as a whistle. They are good about drive ups and let you wait. My family has been customers of Auto Trends since its "Z Shop" days 25 years ago, and the service is always excellent. I've read the reviews about Auto Trends being "overpriced", but I'm not sure where they are getting their quotes from - I'm a researcher and have compared prices at different times and they have come in cheaper than other recommended shops on numerous occasions. They might be more expensive than some jackleg shop without such a great reputation, but all I have to say about that is: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. When you go to Auto Trends, you are getting honest, reputable and quality service at fair rates, without any runaround and always quickly. When my Outlander had a hose with a hole chewed in it (from a vengeful neighborhood cat) it was ready before my lunch break. When I had problems with my Jeep's radiator and they knew I was on a budget, they did extensive clean outs and other work to give me a little bit longer of a lifespan, so I didn't have to replace the whole thing immediately. Later, when I wrecked that same Jeep and they found out it had frame damage, they went out of their way to recommend towing services, body shops, and new car alternatives after it was totaled - they did not receive a dime for any of this, including the time they spent diagnosing it. This is a family owned business that cares about their customer and always has the utmost integrity, and to me, that's worth every penny. read more

I had a horrible experience with this company. I took my car in because the check engine light was on. They said they couldn't find anything wrong and suggested that I change my spark plugs and ignition wires. I later purchased the spark plugs and wires myself and took my car back for them to install and get a wheel alignment. They took the opportunity sell me some tires and said they did the work I requested. However, the check engine like was still on. Later I tried to correct the check engine light again. I purchased an ignition coil and new fuel injector for the cylinder that was coming up in the error code. I took my car back to them to install. They installed the parts but the check engine light still was on. They explained that I needed to change my ignition wires. They said the wires were never changed. If that were the case it was so because they didn't change it. Because I believed they did the work I requested I ended up spending an additional $500 on materials and labor that gave me no value. They never returned the spark plugs and ignition wires I gave them to install. I never received so much as an apology let alone any effort to save my business. To add insult to injury, when I explaining my feelings to the manager that after two years of doing business with this company I no longer felt comfortable doing so, he had the nerve to deflect blame to myself. Unbelievable! Okay I'm going to chock this one up to a lesson learned. A word to the wise, if you plan to take your vehicle to this location be sure to keep all of your receipts, check over the invoice thoroughly and make sure you ask for the old parts back. read more
