On the way down to move my daughter into school I noticed her brake light was out. Got a replacement bulb on the way and then proceeded with the move-in. It was a loooong day and I saved the bulb replacement for Last Only to find out the bulb I got earlier didn't fit. Luckily there was a store close by and open early eve on Sunday (great hours). To make a long story short there was a friendly face behind the counter who was very ready to help me. Where the computer was telling us both the wrong bulb to get he (Dan) was able to cross reference it when I handed him the original . He found the bulb and then reminded me he could make a swap 'sans' receipt. PERFECT. The repair was done quick and I was leaving champagne in 20 minutes. Farid is great there are some hood employees there but seems to be a high turnover. Seems new staff are coming and going. A staff member there needs experience, i've worked as a professional mechanic for over 25 years and had a lot of experience with auto parts stores, The worst experience at Autozone is when some of the new staff try and hide back in the inventory shelves when a customer needs help very unprofessional. Ordered an ignition coil from AutoZone on Mattis Avenue. Paid for it over the phone. Told the young lady it was time-sensitive because the shop was going to close. I told her that a friend of mine would pick it up and to please have it at the front counter and ready to go. She said "I'm looking at it right now it's on the desk waiting". My friend gets there 10 minutes later, they send her across town and tell her they don't have the part! Now I am stranded because the place is closed and I cannot get the part put on! I went in there asking for one specific thing, the older gentleman proceeds to go behind the counter so that he wouldn't have to walk to grab a bottle versus finding something that was cheaper in price. He said why walk all the way to the back when there's some right here. This past weekend I was in Champaign to visit my daughter who is a student at U of I. Sunday morning, my car would not start. My daughter drove me to Autozone on University Ave planning to buy a new battery & have it installed. The nice young clerk told me they could only install it if it was in their lot (which it was not). I asked if they could give me a jump start, and he said- "You can just take our jump starter" and he handed it to me. We went back to my car, jumped it with the jump starter and- miracle of miracles-it started! Drove back to Autozone to return the jump starter and buy the battery. Roy, the manager, said he'd like to test the battery & alternator before I bought the $180 battery. He came out to my car in the lot & both tested fine so he advised me not to get the new battery. I decided to buy my own jump starter which I've had to use a couple times since (my car is having some electrical issues & in for service now) I appreciate that the both clerk and the manager were so willing to help me and went out of their way to help me resolve my problem. They made no attempt to take advantage of my situation to sell me a product that I didn't really need. Both displayed excellent customer service, which is not so common these days. Called auto zone on university, confirmed they'd put windshield wipers on my vehicle if I purchased from their store. I drive all across town only to have the lady at the front desk inform me it was cold out so they weren't going to help me. Called the OTHER Auto Zone on Mattis, and Tony was wonderful and helped me get in right away! The girl working at the university location was rude, unhelpful, and had no qualms about sending my business elsewhere. I am sure this encounter doesn't reflect Auto Zone's values and customer service, but it's enough to never recommend them again. read more

I know it's a chain but my experience here was relatively outstanding. Dropped in on a random Tuesday night. I needed to switch out some lights on my car and the associates were more than helpful. I had no clue what I needed but the guys working there steered me right. While they recommended a certain light they also mentioned the pros and cons of the other bulbs (trade-off between brightness and life). Additionally, they were great in getting me the socket pieces necessary to replace spark plugs, down to getting me the right extension size that would fit a spark plug without trying to sell me an entire set. I've been to some crappers in terms of chain auto parts stores where people either have no clue or just plain don't care. These guys did it right. read more

I went to autozone on July 4th to get a new battery, asked them to swap it out for me also. I didn't catch the name of one of the employees but he was very disrespectful, complained he has to switch a battery in the heat, didn't know what battery or the correct prices were. I went in needing a new car battery because mine had died that morning and I had to drive to both of my jobs. I went to AutoZone per suggestions from friends and online resources about friendly staff and free car battery installation. Upon entering the store, no one greeted me, offered help, or even seemed to be there. I walked over to the batteries and began trying to find which one my car needed, and finally had someone come over to offer help after a few minutes. He looked up my car in the computer and said there was only one battery in stock that was compatible. I was desperate, so I bought it. He didn't even offer to check the battery before having me buy a new one, a service that AutoZone advertises. Luckily, I knew that my battery was done and needed replacing. After checking out, he just handed me the battery and said "Here you go". When I asked about installation (that was never offered to me during checkout), he sighed and then continued to loudly complain to another employee, right in front of me, about how I failed to ask for installation and how he didn't want to do it because he had already clocked out for lunch. He also complained that he would then have to refund my $18 core. He expressed his annoyance multiple times (again, right in front of me), and then asked another employee to install it for me so he could go to lunch. I awkwardly followed this employee outside and sat in my car quietly until it was installed. I thanked him profusely for providing the service (it was pretty cold out and I was short on time), and again after he offered to take my old battery back in for me. At that point, I should have gone back in to get my $18 refund, but was so uncomfortable, offended, and upset by the experience I had just had with the other employee that I decided it wasn't worth it. If you want good service, I would suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

Make sure you go when the decent employees are working. aka the daytime. Headlights both went out at the same time, went late at night twice with no good help. Finally asked when there will be good help available and they said the manager will be in during the day. He was tremendously helpful and got it fixed up and going in maybe 20 min. Years ago, I went there to get strong wiper blades I saw on TV for my used Toyota Tercel. They wouldn't sell them to be, because they said those blades were so heavy, they would eventually burn out my little car's wiper motor, so they sold me a much cheaper blade that worked fine.. So, last week, when my dealer said I needed to replace my wiper blades on my two year old car right away, I decided to see what Auto Zone would say. A guy went out to my car, checked on the blades, and said I didn't need new ones yet, but when I did, they could put new ones on for one third the cost the dealer quoted me. Also, once my "check engine" light come on, Auto Zone took a gadget out to my car, which showed that the only problem was I didn't tighten the gas cap tight enough. This free service saved me money for a service call. read more

A lot of these reviews say not to go in at night and can definitely confirm that to be the case. Friend figured out late at night that his battery was dead. Jumped him and got over there ten till close. We both work in a store and understand how that feels, but you gotta give it your all still... rushed out and really needed it installed as neither of us had a socket set (changed now, thanks). Ultimately decided to jump him again and install at his place. At least two workers walked by without a word. Would have taken them five minutes, with the other stops that ended up taking us it took another couple hours (trying to make the tools we have work). When I had a similar issue in the light of day an elderly gentleman assisted and hobbled out. Those young kids can't offer the same great service? I suggest the manager get rid of them and start over. It's tough but they are clearly losing business. We will have to think twice before coming back for other accessories and items. read more
