Super shady. I wrote up a detailed proposal on Yelp and sent it to a couple of detailers; the info I sent included that there was pet hair and another pet stain (you don't want to know) and there was even a box to check if pet hair was in the car. This guy wrote back to me with a flat fee of $200, which sounded great. When I asked how long he would have the car, he said two hours if no pet hair. I reminded him that there was pet hair, and suddenly the rate became $300. I get that pet hair is a huge pain! I don't mind that he charges $300 for it. What I do mind is that he pretended not to know I had dog hair in the car so he could make me a low offer, then added it on later once he had my attention. I tried to discuss this with him, and he kept telling me to just go to another detailer if I didn't like his price. I was still trying to explain that it wasn't about his price, it was about the way he lowballed me up front only to raise the price later. He never acknowledged this and just kept arguing about how fair his price is. Either he's not smart enough to understand my point or he's too shady to admit he did something wrong. Either way, I can see why so many of these reviews badmouth this guy. read more

I have been taking my car to "Above and Beyond," for over ten years now. A couple times I had my car detail cleaned. Once I had my daughters car detailed, it was such a filthy mess, given the traveling with dogs she did but they did a great job. I hate writing bad reviews, especially when it comes to the small business owner. If it had only been one bad experience, I would have let it go. However, I had TWO bad experiences with two separate vehicles at the same time. I felt that I had to share my experience to warn other customers who are thinking about taking there vehicle to 'Above & Beyond' to be detailed. #1. Brought my BMW X5 in to be detailed @ $150 (plus $20 gratuity). The cargo space had dog hair and it looked as if it hadn't been touched. I commented my displeasure and Derrick said that he tried but couldn't remove it. I went home, pulled out my Shopvac and removed the dog hair myself. #2. At the same time, I brought my spouse's Mercedes SUV to be detailed (another $150 plus $20 gratuity). When I picked up the car, the driver's seat was pushed all the way back and the electric control was inoperable. Derrick said that it was that way when it came in. I told him that if that was the case, why would I have to stretch my entire body out just to drive the car. I figured that maybe some water got into the electrical system and shorted out. We took the car to Mercedes and they informed us that... THE PART WAS MISSING! What? Everything worked fine, took the car to A&B for a detail, and now the part is MISSING? The part and repair cost us an additional $635. In total, we spent $975 to have our two vehicles "detailed" for a job that our neighbors kid could do for $20. :-( read more

My truck had become so filthy inside that I just couldn't stand it any longer. I usually do my own detailing, but for some reason I just couldn't find the motivation to tackle it. Derek was able to get me in right away and a few hours later he called to let me know my vehicle was ready for pickup. My truck looks like new again! I had the interior of my car detailed on Friday. I came in that morning to set up an appointment and they worked to fit me in that afternoon. My car has never looked so good. I don't know what they use on the dash, door walls, and console, but it looks brand new, and immaculate. The seats, carpets, and mats, too, are spotless. I bought this car used from a car lot, and it did not look/was not, nearly as pristine as it is now. I couldn't find a thing to complain about with this service....six stars, hands down!! read more

I am way passed disappointed in the detail I just received on my car! I wish I could post pictures on here. I drive a simple sedan. I even took everything out of the car so it would be easier for them. The only thing I didn't want cleaned was the trunk. When I picked it up, I pointed out all of the dirt between the doors and the seats. Their response? "Our vacuums don't reach there." Even my vacuum can clean next to the doors... I asked if the fuzz that still covered all of my seats could be vacuumed off. They said, "it won't come off. It's just the material." I vacuum my seats and know for a fact it comes off... it takes a couple swipes, but it comes off. I point out a spot of chocolate and ketchup on the side of the steering wheel. They said it wouldn't come off and left it there. I just now sprayed it and it came right up. I pointed out a dusty crusty spot on the dash that obviously not been touched. They assured me that's just what it looks like after it's wiped. The last part is my favorite. "The spots on the seats are stains that just wouldn't come up no matter how many times we went over them." I brought my car home right after picking it up. I've had it for a little over an hour. I took Lysol spray and sprayed my seats. Then I went over the seats with a wet rag. All of the fuzz and "stains" wiped right off. I even have before and after pictures! I just went through my car and found a lollipop stick, pencil, and drink lid (thanks to my lovely children). If I can see them from the window outside my car, they should have too. No one should ever take their car here if they want an actual detail. You can do a MUCH better job at home... The worst part was that they didn't even attempt to fix any issue that I brought to their attention. They just made excuses for their poor work. Highly dissatisfied. read more

I never do this but this review is warranted, I would honestly give them a zero if I could. I went to "Above and Beyond Detailing" on 708 E. Main St. in Urbana, IL 61802 on 11/30/21. My car needed cleaned but it was not a disaster. My back seat has hardly been used since I stopped driving for Lyft four months ago. I have vacuumed my car since then and same with my passenger seat. My dog is usually in the passenger but she doesn't shed. She's also not in there every day, it's just every once in a while. I asked to have my car detailed inside and out. I let them know that my dog got sick in my front seat and that I was cleaning it up the best I could but I knew that I would need it deep clean. I dropped off my car and picked it up the same day. Paid $150 for the inside and outside to be cleaned. My car looked great.. that is on the surface it looked great. I dropped my phone later that night in between my seats and that's when I started to look at my car closer. They did not clean between my seats nor did they clean my leather seats correctly. It looks like they wiped down my leather seats. My dogs sickness is still in the cracks of my seats along with it being in between my seats. My dogs sickness is also along the seat, near the floor, by the passenger door-they completely missed that. Some places don't look vacuumed, like I said my car was pretty clean except where I sit and my dog. My backseat still have particles in the cracks along with some places not being vacuumed. I don't even think they touched my trunk, it looks the exact same as the last time I vacuumed it (I hardly use the trunk also). I called Derek the next day and asked what/how he cleaned the inside of my car. He said he vacuumed, shampooed and clean my leather seats. I expressed that it doesn't look like this and it looks like he wiped my seats down. He said, "I don't know what you expected. Some places just can't be cleaned and for a car that hasn't been detailed, it's not going to get done." I said there was no way he did all he said he did and I would like some money back. Before I could say anything else, for example: or it to get recleaned, he hung up. I tried calling back and he didn't answer. Left a voicemail, no call back. I also want to jump in that my car has been detailed many times and I clean it all the time. I went to a different detailing service place and talked to them about my experience and if it should all be cleaned. They said it should and they would of asked for it to be redone or some money back. They gave me an estimate of $30 to clean the parts that weren't clean. This did not include shampooing or vacuuming the rest of my car which I'm fine with because I really just wanted where my dog got sick to be cleaned. I tried stopping by Derek's place again, explain/show him everything, and get some money back but he was closed at 4pm when they are usually opened until 5:30pm. Called and left a voicemail explaining everything and asking for $30 to cover the bill for the new place. No answer and no call back. Got my detailing done by the new place and they did an awesome job! 150% recommend this place: UI Auto Club Detailing on 2602 N. Mattis Ave, Champaign, IL 61822. They squeezed me in the same day 12/1/21 and had my car cleaned within 30 minutes. They did a walk through with me after they were done asking if I saw anything that needed touched up. They expressed that it didn't look like the inside was touched by the other place at all. They also said that they cleaned off my rubber floor mats because "Above and Beyond Detailing" put tire oil on them. They said that if I still didn't have the paper protectors under my feet (separating my shoes from the oil) that my feet would of slipped while I drove. Who knows what that outcome could of been. In the end, the new place didn't charge me anything for their service and they said that I had been through enough with "Above and Beyond Detailing". I was very thankful because I usually live paycheck to paycheck and it's hard to save money. I gave then a small tip, wishing I could give more! I decided not to try to get any money back from Derek after reading other reviews that he was displeasing and didn't try to fix anything that was wrong with other cars that he caused. Let me reiterate that I was displeased with the inside of my car, the outside was washed but not waxed. I could of had a car wash and wipe down everything myself for $10 at rainstorm (vacuuming and wiping down the inside are free). I only asked for $30 back because he is a small business owner and they did clean my car, it just wasn't $150 worth of work. I know they wouldn't of refunded me so that is why I asked for $30 to cover the other place. "Above and Beyond Detailing" goes above and beyond to take your money but NOT above and beyond with cleaning. If you WANT great service, you'll WANT to go to UI Auto Club Detailing. As part of the detailing process, they sprayed my motor and put water under all my sparkplugs and also shorted out wiring on one of the spark plugs. This water all needed to be sucked out and the wiring assembly & plug needed to be replaced. All this destruction was caused by spraying too much water and the owner Derrick denied they sprayed the motor at all! This cost me $40 to diagnosed and another $220 for suction out of water and replacing the wiring assembly. My car was working perfectly when I took it in & they would not make it good. Derrick refused to take any responsibility for all the damage and expenses. So no reimbursement at all. I will never go there again & am warning you not to risk taking your car there. Went there for a more complicated detail (shampoo, clay bar, polish, wax/sealant all on a cheap aging respray that has thin / failing clearcoat). Beautifully done at a very reasonable price for a hand polish, and now I don't have to stare at a swirled clearcoat all day! No ugly paint damage from those crappy automatic machines either. Also, they listen to their customers, do exactly what they say they will / what you ask for, and are good about both appointment times and detailing speed. Like other posters said I'll definitely be back (a lot more than once) and this is my new go-to in Urbana for all my detailing needs. This is my first review only because I felt the need to. I haven't gotten much detailing in cars because I always think, "Why not clean the car myself?" Well I got a new, used car and it was just filthy. I thought it would be worth the money to get it detailed while saving my own time. I originally made an appointment at another detail shop but by mistake took it to this place. (I just forgot where I had made an appointment at.) This place ended up being cheaper so why not. Weirdly, they charged me before they even started work and also shuttled me to my work IN MY OWN CAR using my gas and mileage. So if you ask if they have a shuttle, they really don't. They told me it should take around 2-3 hours and will give me a call when it's done. 3 hours passed and I didn't get a call. 4 hours passed and I needed to go on break for lunch but I didn't have my car. I decided to give them a call and was told another 20 minutes. Afterwards, I get a call saying that it's ready. I get picked up and they drive me back to the shop. I noticed that the buffing that is included was not done because there were still many marks I could scratch off with my own finger. My headlights needed restoration but was not cleaned at all. They told me it was due to condensation which is partly true but I was able to do a better job buying a restoration kit. The inside was cleaner from before but everything was soaked. They did not take the time to dry the mats or carpet. By the time I was done with work, my car smelled like rags. It seemed like they just did a quick wipe inside without really scrubbing the seats. Every time someone gets in my car now, they ask, "What is that smell?!" The only positive is that they actually did a decent job on the engine. read more

We were having issues arranging to get our 2 cars into another detailer. Then I saw a coupon for Above & Beyond and decided to give them a try. I emailed them questions twice and they responded quickly. Arranging service was easy. They were polite and easy to do business with and we were very pleased with the job they did on both cars. I had dropped a wallet with store credit cards under the seat when I was emptying out one of the cars before taking it in and they found it and made sure i got it back. Oh my gosh!! A&B detailing was waaaay above my expectations - my car has NEVER looked this good!! They cleaned it so well that my previously stuck seat slidey thing now slides again - I was amazed!!
