Did not even ask for the TPMS installation in the first place. They added that because the operator wasn't listening to my request or deliberately ignored--I explicitly said no TPMS needed. Denied responsibility for the new sound in the wheel that appeared out of nowhere, said it's my fault for declining them pulling the car report--what's the connection between the report and the new mechanical problem? Would the sound not have appeared if I had pulled the report? A much more likely story is that there was a lurking problem they didn't know about and something they did made the symptom appear. In which case it would have been their responsibility to let me know that the absence of the report could cause further problems. Either way they need to tell the truth afterwards instead of telling a poor lie and trying to accuse me for the problem. Saw another comment saying their good brake pad and rotor got swapped out for bad ones--I would not be surprised if that were true, especially if you denied any of their more profitable service. Oil and filter change plus tire rotation is around $250 which is on the high end for auto shops. They're very intransparent about it and will be pissed when you ask for a detailed quote, so I'm sharing that here if anyone wonders. They'll also be pissed off when you show up one and a half hour later after they told you that's how long the work would take, and then proceed to take another one and a half hour to actually be done (possibly to drag out the labor hours). So much more unprofessional and improper behavior that I will skip here for brevity. Pretty outrageous for charging on the high end while delivering extremely hostile service. Will not even go back for the TPMS because I cannot trust them at all. Run your diagnostics elsewhere before coming here if you must--I would suggest getting work done elsewhere entirely. If you really enjoy spending money to get yelled at I would suggest an S&M dungeon instead. Or if you'd like to break your car I could do that for you for free.

At the dealership, my car passed emissions, but they refused to give me a safety inspection sticker unless I agreed to replace both front hub bearings plus do an alignment for $1,618.71. When I asked for proof the bearings were actually bad (wheel play, stethoscope on the hub, etc.), they couldn't show me anything concrete just "it's the noise, trust us." I walked away instead of approving almost $2,000 of work. When I went to Don's, I did not tell him what the dealership claimed the problem was. I wanted to see what he thought it was. All I told Don was that my Maxima had a loud roaring noise above ~30 mph. He took the car in and within 9 minutes found the real issue: it was ONLY the front LEFT wheel bearing, NOT both. From there, he then gave me the option between a brand-name wheel bearing and an off-brand (the cheaper one only saved about $40, but it was still nice to be asked instead of told) Don explained clearly what was wrong and that the left one was shot and absolutely needed to be replaced, and the right one could wait. Don replaced that single left front bearing in about 3 hours. Don charged me almost $1,100 less than I would have spent following the dealership's recommendation. A nice surprise: Don does not charge a credit card fee, which I honestly can't say for anywhere else I've been ever. My car is now quiet, the noise is gone, and it was fixed right the first time: with one bearing instead of two, no guessing, and no pressure. If you're tired of feeling like you're being sold to instead of helped, go to Don's. He's exactly what you hope a neighborhood mechanic will be: honest, efficient, transparent about options, fair on price, and actually interested in fixing the problem without damaging your wallet.
