i've done my shopping at AutoZone for a long time spent thousands of dollars with the store on 12 Utah has my money to my credit card or debit card and said it may take 3 to 5 days to return the funds. That's totally unacceptable to me. I will no longer use AutoZone because of this if I use O'Reillys or advanced auto. It's back on my card the same day just saying if you have to take stuff back look for a 3 to 5 day delay on getting your money back. read more

I went to the Auto Zone at 939 S. State in Salt Lake City to buy a couple windshield wipers. While I was trying to figure out the proper model number from the thousands of options, Angel, the store manager, asked if I needed help. He then looked up the model on his computer for me, told me my options, and recommended what he said was the best one--a good quality one that was considerably cheaper than the top-of-the-line option. He then asked if my car was there and if I wanted help installing them. I knew it was something I was capable of (eventually) figuring out, but was not looking forward to the hassle. Rich is AWESOME! We were on our way out of town on a Sunday morning and our car wouldn't start without a jump in our driveway. This is one of the only auto zones in the valley that opens at 7:30, the rest open at 9. We went right when it opened and he immediately checked our engine light and battery health. Rich was very knowledgeable about the car so it was a quick process. He replaced our battery within 20 minutes and was sure to explain everything he was doing, even added a shim into the connector to make sure it was making contact. Beautiful place with amazing employees, but sometimes they make mistakes, I don't blame them as we are all human and all have our own imperfections. They sold me the wrong air-filter for my car but they let me come back and get a refund! Very kind. Anyways, their scent smell is very limited and I believe that if you're an air freshener person (like me, my favorite little tree smell being linen), you'd be better off heading to the O'Reily's down the street. They have a bigger collection of scents in it's own little aisle, whereas at Autozone, they have the scents scattered all throughout the store, a little confusing but like I said, nobody and nowhere is perfect. read more

Shout out to employee Mike Sebastian, who came outside and tested the battery, found it to be fine and suggested that it was the alternator instead. Then he explained that I could disconnect the battery while the car is running, and if the engine stopped, that would indicate that alternator is shot. He then did this for me, disconnecting the battery, and sure enough, the car went dead. He then reconnected the battery, gave me a recommendation of a repair shop, and waited to make sure my car re-started before going back into the store. A+ service, and now I know how to test my alternator in the future! read more

I've been going to many Auto zones throughout Utah and California for the last 10 years. I just moved back to SLC and my headlight went out. I decided to pick one up here because they (in general, the stores) have always been happy to replace the light for me, which I always greatly appreciate. I went here at 930p the other day because that's when I realized it was out. I wanted to get it replaced because I didn't want to get pulled over. The unfriendly associate said he couldn't go outside at this time because he needed to start prepping for closing. I get that, but it was more of the attitude like I was crazy for asking. Replacing the light takes approximately 3 minutes when the associate does it, I don't think it would have killed him. Okay, so then I came back the next day around 2pm, early enough for no excuses of closing. I came in with a child in hand and still grumpy service. He said 3 people didn't show up today and that I would have to wait 20 minutes...sorry, but with a 1 year old child in my hands, it's highly unlikely he will remain stable for that long. I think it's the management that is lacking and no one wants to show up and work. I decided to leave and drive two blocks away to OReillys. I walked in, purchased a light, he replaced the light within a few minutes and I was out the door. I drove back to Auto Zone and returned the light I bought there. I will not bring my service here anymore. read more

These guys are good while the store is not in the best shape. This weekend I fired up the 62 Lincoln for the first time this year and noticed right away that the power steering pump was making a lot of noise and when at a stop it was nearly impossible to turn the wheels. After some research on the internets I came to the conclusion that my first and least expensive step was to top off the power steering fluid. It turns out this car uses ATF type F fluid. So off to Autozone I went. After getting in the zone I was quickly helped by one of the few guys working there. They seemed super helpful too. The other guy up front was helping a customer find the correct belt for his car by even taking it out side to their call to ensure a correct fit. I thought that was cool. When I let the guy who was helping me know what I needed he quickly took me to the back wall where such fluids were stocked. Got me set up with what I needed and I was on my way. The store does looked very dated. But it still had what I needed so that was good. The parking lot is covered in leaked fluids and such. there was even a couple people doing repairs in the parking lot. I thought they had a policy against it and if they do they aren't enforcing it. But I guess it would be a reason customers might keep coming back. Its not a big issue to me just something I noticed. Oh and as for my car - The AFT type F fluid hushed my power steering issue. Also it lead to the discovery of the real problem. Its leaking. So that's a bummer but hopefully its just a hose or fitting. If so I will be back to get parts for that. read more

Ever since I moved to Salt Lake City, about five years ago, this AutoZone has been my parts store. And it was fine. To me, all parts stores are about the same - they have about the same inventory, and they are priced about the same. But a couple of years ago this place changed. They started some new program where they try to upsell you on every purchase. And they're really pushy about it too. If you buy a bulb replacement, they try to push some grease that will keep it from freezing up due to the cold weather over the course of years. I could give other examples of as well, But it doesn't matter what you buy, they always have something they try to upsell you with, or they tell you about a special they're having on something or other. I have politely asked them not to try to sell me anything, and the totally crazy thing is that they often don't respect my wishes, and they try to justify why they have to sell me things, and it ultimately results in an argument. This morning, I went there to buy a quart of oil. I went to the counter, and remembering, as I usually do, that they are going to try to sell me something that I don't want, I politely, in a soft voice, asked him to not try to sell me anything. He did anyway. Then I explained to him how demeaning it was to both of us that his superiors make him do that. It is as pathetic as the clerks at McDonald's being made to upsell people to supersize their meals. They come across like used car salesman or vacuum cleaner salesman. But what happened this morning, really got me angry. Right after I finished explaining to the clerk how I would appreciate it if they would drop the selling and treat me with respect, like a fellow human being, the manager, apparently having not heard us talking, walked over and tried to sell me something they have a special on! Amazing! I will never, ever, shop at AutoZone again the rest of my life! There are lots of other options in the area: a couple blocks south at 1122 State St., a NAPA auto parts on 1300 S., just west of the 15 freeway, etc. read more
