For a hotel pub this place exceeded our expectations. Granted it is at a high-end Marriott in Vail but still the food was excellent. The smoked salmon deviled eggs were almost shocking. The first bite surprised me and interested me and my girlfriend looked at my face and said how are they? I told her I didn't want to prejudice her so just to take one and tried herself. She did and the look on her face was probably like mine, surprised. We both agreed that they were different than any other deviled eggs we had ever had and they were very delicious. The presentation was very nice as well. We shared a beet salad and they split it onto plates for us and it was more than enough for each one of us. We also split a pasta 25 which was good but I had to ask for salt-and-pepper as it was in need of some spices. This is simply the bar/pub in a busy hotel but the kitchen really has it working! The staff did a good job as well but they are mostly very young people working seasonally so you are not going to get professional waitstaff as you would in a high-end restaurant like Leonora. I really don't expect a five star meal at a hotel bar restaurant. However, I would not come back here. The food was not very good at all, with the exception of the huge quesadilla appetizer (which came with a ton of fun toppings). The service was terrible. The music was nice. I ordered the turkey panini. Huge serving. Turkey, pesto, spinach, cheese, tomato, bacon. All these ingredients, but somehow this was very bland and soggy. The bacon was barely chewable and had no flavor as well. It came with a side salad. The salad looked delicious but had no flavor or dressing, and the few small croutons on top got soggy from the wet salad toppings. Yuck. I also tried the elk burger. My fiancé ordered this cooked medium. The sides were cooked fine, but the inside looked like ground beef you'd see in the raw meat aisle at a grocery store. He was unable to eat any of the middle of the burger because of this. Now we would've complained about the burger because this was health hazard undercooked inside, but our waitress never returned to ask how our food was until our food was long gone. No water refills so we refilled our own glasses with my reusable water bottle. No bill until literally 30 minutes after we asked her (and this was long after we were trying to figure out why she was not coming back to our table). It was a bummer because she was very nice, but we got no actual service from her. read more

Took a chance eating here one evening with the family when everyone was too tired to walk into town. Wish we had taken the five minute path to the better eating establishments... We all ordered burgers and sandwiches and the food ranged from fair to horrible. I had their cheeseburger (which got decent reviews) and it was delivered to me so well done it was almost inedible- and flavorless to boot. Another in our party ordered the Elk Burger at Medium Well and it came out so undercooked we expected it to get up and walk off the table. It looked like uncooked ground meat. Turkey panini was fair- at least the turkey was cooked right and fresh but nothing special. The only decent thing we had was the chicken quesadilla which was flavorful and served with salsa and guacamole. On top of this the service was absolutely horrendous. After our food was delivered our waitress did not come by once to ask if things were ok. We couldn't flag her down to complain about the raw burger, and requesting the check became a half hour ordeal. Love the resort but next time I will take a pass on the Pub- read more

If you are staying at the Marriott, then you are bound to have a drink at the Avalanche Pub. They have a pretty extensive drink menu -- including several local beers and whiskeys. Please note that when ordering there may be 'up charges' for certain requests (like making a drink 'neat') --- so be sure to ask. Unfortunately we were not made aware of this and had a surprise on our bill. read more

Good food, great and friendly service! Have the Bison/Bleu burger. The Cali/Turkey sandwich is also very good. Great fries and very good onion rings. The servers are attentive and quite friendly. They get a LOT of work done while still keeping their eye on you. Justin was particularly approachable and helpful. We hope to see him again some day; probably as Mayor of Vail or something similar. Tried this place out because it was in our hotel and we had hoped we could watch the LSU v. TAMU game. Both of us were hurting from our first day skiing and didn't want to have to venture too far. While the service we had was great and the ladies were more than happy to accommodate our request to watch the game, the hotel didn't subscribe to the SEC network. I get it, we were in CO. When I saw great service, we literally had 2 servers that checked on us regularly. Our food was fantastic. Husband got the burger with side salad and I opted for the Colorado trout. Burger was seasoned and cooked well, the veggies were fresh, and even his side salad with a vingerette was pretty good. My trout had good flavor and crispy skin. I liked the sauce and quinoa. I was a good girl and ate my cooked carrots and micro greens on top even though I'm sure those are just to make the dish more colorful. My only complaint and the reason for the 4 stars, was the price. I would be willing to say the burger was a $10-$15 burger (instead of $20) and the trout was a $20 plate (versus $28). The cheapest wine by the glass was $10. Do the math and you get to $100 meal quickly. The had live music, a gentleman playing guitar and singing cover songs. He was really enjoyable and interacted well with the kids in the restaurant. If our game had been available to watch, I would've liked to have heard him play/sing some more. read more

Visited the Avalanche pub while staying at the Marriott for a conference. I had the Avalanche burger and fries and found everything super underwhelming and bland. The alcohol/beer menu is extensive so that's a plus. I also found the staff to be awesome if, not a little overwhelmed, and appreciated the flexibility to get my meal to go. I know the burger is 17$ because it's inside the Vail Marriot, but come on guys, let's step it up with some seasoning and cooking burgers to order. read more

Get the buffalo sliders. They are the best thing, ever! Seriously, I was shocked to taste something so incredibly savory at a hotel pub. Buffalo tends to have no flavor due to its leanness. However, Avalanche cooks it superbly. Additional positives: bartenders know how to mix a proper drink. I ordered off menu and they did not falter. Excellent drinks!! The turkey club was a huge portion (enough to share) and really tasty. Was in a hurry, so I did not get to have a drink. I TRIED - Side Salad (7/10) - 7one5 Burger (6/10) - Onion Rings (8/10) Because this is a Marriott level hotel (i.e. not a Courtyard or Residence Inn) I have to pay for parking, and by the time I got in, valeted the car, put my stuff in my room, I realized that I'd have to get the valet to bring the car back, pay him a tip, and then do it all over again if I wanted to go out. Luckily, this hotel has a Bar & Grill type of place inside. Plus Monday Night Football was on, so a burger and a beer was fine with me! This is a simple pub inside of the Vail Marriott Resort. They've got about 2 or 3 TVs around the place, and another 2 behind the bar. The place is pretty spacious, they could handle a decent sized lunch crowd, and the bar has seating for about 10-12 people. They've got a couple local brews on tap, and about a handful of other common beers. SIDE SALAD Why do I mention a side salad? Because this was the most sophisticated side salad I've ever seen. No, it's not like it's a cobb salad or an Asian chicken salad, but it's just that they had good fresh ingredients and it wasn't like it just came out of a bag! They had like a leafy spring mix going, but again, fresh and not from a bag, some shredded carrots, cherry tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles, and even some kalamata olives! That and my blue cheese dressing on the side, and it was a very good salad! 7ONE5 BURGER I read this thing on the menu several times before I figured out it's the "Seven One Five Burger." I kept reading it as "Zone 5" for some reason. Anyway, it's a simple bacon cheddar burger on a Brioche (pronounced BREE-o-sh). Hey you learned something! The beef was pretty good, had a nice grill taste to it, and was tender and meaty. The bacon, I didn't even realize was there. The cheddar made a quick cameo here 'n' there, but barely noticeable. It also came with this "bourbon ketchup," which thankfully didn't taste like bourbon (and if it did, I made sure I had a dozen other flavors to drown it out). The ketchup simply added the little extra seasoning that the burger needed, since the bacon and cheddar were pretty much no shows. But the thing I loved most about this burger was the Brioche. It's a light and airy/puffy bun, which means that it doesn't suck up flavors as much as a dense bun would, like a typical hamburger bun you buy at the store. Better, because it's so light, it disappears with hardly a trace, so you get to focus more on the meat. Good stuff, this Brioche thing might be something I want to pursue on other burgers (Kuma's Corner - I'm calling your name)! ONION RINGS Again, why the mention of a side dish? Because either I was super hungry, or these were very good onion rings. They're sorta thin looking, not like those ginormous ones you get at Red Robin. They're practically the size of and shape of White Castle onion rings; however, these are very crunchy! Yes, crunchy, not like a beer batter's weak crisp, but a very decent crunch you'd expect from a, yes, Red Robin onion ring. Dipped in that "bourbon ketchup" it was pretty darn good! VANILLA SNOW I dunno, I can't come up with a creative conclusion title. This was the title of one of the spoofs of that Chocolate Rain song by Tay Zonday. Snow...Avalanche, get it? Whatever. ANYWAYS...it's a solid place, and if I wasn't the curious type, I could almost see myself having all my dinners here for the week. Check out the menu, it's not just burgers and beer (actually, burgers are a minority). They've got steaks, ribs, pasta, as well as your bar food types. But now that my stuff is all loaded in my hotel room, I'll be sure to not valet so early and start hittin' the other eateries. read more

Stayed at the Marriott and ended up at the Avalanche Pub for dinner on a Friday night. Live music was nice, and the food here is phenomenal. Anyone who has ever complained about "hotel food" has never been here. While definitely pricey, the portions are generous and culinarily on par with some of the top restaurants in the area. We had the edamame hummus which came in a GIGANTIC bowl with enough fresh veggies and bread for four people. The caesar salad has a very unique presentation, heart of romaine encircled by a giant crouton reminiscent of a napkin holder. Crisp, lettuce, buttery croutons and creamy caesar dressing. Lastly we had fish 'n chips - the batter was light and fried to a perfect golden crisp. The fish (halibut, I believe), was fresh and moist inside, the I don't think I've ever had such amazing fried fish. (Side note: just looked at the menu again and it looks like they may have changed it, but with the quality of food that kitchen was putting out, I think it'd be a home run no matter what you order.) I truly believe I could've eaten there for every single meal and not been disappointed. Not sure why there aren't more reviews for this place but kudos to the chef, amazing! read more

There's something about paying $20 for a cheeseburger (during off-season too) that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It came with leather-textured bacon and tasted primarily like pepper. Other than that and the price, it was not noteworthy one way or another. We asked the waitress for her recommendations and by (I'm sure) sheer coincidence, she recommended the most expensive entrees on the menu. The prices are higher than at some of the best restaurants in Vail but the food is far inferior. If you just HAVE to eat in the hotel, well... there you have it. read more
