Honestly, not terribly impressed. As an offshoot of the Southernmost Resort, I expected some updates to the room. The AC is absolutely terrible. It's hot and humid currently and I have it set to 59°. It is still 79°. I contacted the front desk to either look at it or change my room. Never heard a word back from them almost 24 hours later. I will say the chick getting tailed down the hall seemed to have a good time. Could hear her through two doos and about 50 feet of distance. read more

We had an awesome stay and loved the location, the cottage we stayed in and the staff were great! The cottage was a nice size and the A/C was top notch. It had all the necessities you need. The pool was at our doorstep which was lovely plus it has a wonderful private seating area in front of the cottage. My son and I enjoyed smoking a cigarillo in the seating area and taking a dip in the pool at the end of the day. The bed was very comfy. In the morning they have a breakfast buffet and there were some good totems to choose from. They have a delicious quiche, fruit and fruit salad, bagels, pastries, hard boiled eggs, cereals, milk and soy milk, juices, coffee, etc. We really enjoyed our stay and plan to return to key west and stay longer. While we enjoyed our stay for 2 nights, I think we will not return to this location within Southernmost. Avalon Bed & Breakfast is now known as Guesthouses at Southernmost. Southernmost owns a nice area in Key West (Southernmost Resort, Southernmost Inn, Southernmost House and the Guesthouses. While I did not see other rooms, ours was incredibly small. Approx 200 square feet. For $250+ a night, I'd like to have a place to open my suitcase comfortably. We had to open it on the bed each time because you didn't have room on either side of the bed for one. The doorway entry was small and led right into an even smaller bathroom. We are not large people and had to turn sideways to get to the toilet. We were also instructed to dump the humidifier daily when it fills. The best part of the Guesthouses is the private pool we enjoyed at night and the breakfast. I don't know what's in their waffles but WOW delicious. Nice spread each day that changes a bit. Apple, orange, grapefruit juices offered along with coffee selections. Food consisted of bagels, toast, pastries, muffins, and a hot bar that had things like waffles, eggs, and bacon. Perhaps there are larger rooms but it is the definition of bed and breakfast. Bring a duffel bag for a weekend trip but not comfortable to stay a week. We changed hotels for the remainder of our stay but enjoyed the location and amenities Southernmost offered. Biggest perk: Accessibility to all Southernmost locations meaning the pool, beach bar and private beach. read more

Great Location, accommodations and staff! We stayed a couple of days with our adult kids. The room was a good size, and we enjoyed the porches and courtyard. The breakfast served every morning on the front porch was perfect. It is located on the quiet side of the island, easy walk down Duval to all the night life. We rented scooters and toured the island. Evening cool down in the pool finished our nights. Everyone on their staff was so kind and accommodating. We will be back! read more

If you are looking for a quiet and beautiful bed and breakfast then look no further than the Avalon Bed & Breakfast. Located on Duval Street, it is right around the corner from the beach, the Southernmost Point and walking distance to Mallory Square (although several blocks). It's just convenient enough to get around without suffering from the noise pollution of some more populated areas of Key West. Upon walking in there were treats waiting on in the entrance, fresh-baked scones and some lemonade it was fantastic. Front desk receptionist was very nice. He told us about the history of the Avalon and how it was built in the 1800's and used to be a schoolhouse for Cuban boys. We were shown to our room, which was absolutely lovely. I was staying with my mom and we had a room with 2 queen size beds, which surprisingly is hard to find at other bed and breakfasts (I spent hours searching). The beds were draped with white netting to create a canopy effect. It was very peaceful and nice and I loved our room. The next morning we had breakfast on their outdoor patio. They had a bunch of yummy options such as an assortment of baked goods, fruit and mini omelettes. It was the perfect ending to our stay. Some other tips before you book: -Other B&B's have a 2-3 night minimum. We were able to stay 1 night here hassle-free. -Parking is not available on-sight (as with most places) but parking can be arranged with the business across the street and it is still convenient. -You can book them through hotels.com so you can earn credits towards a free night -I recommend booking far enough in advance (for anywhere really) because places in the Keys can really fill up fast! -Check-in times are 3:00 pm-6:30 pm and if you plan to be there after then you will have to get your keys from a lock box. read more

My high school friends had a reunion holiday trip and we stayed at the Avalon for 3 nights, Eric greeted us once we arrived and gave us all the information we needed for a great stay, some personal preferred destinations and places to eat too. Rose was there in the day to help us with our reservations (she suggested a sunset sail-highly recommended!) and help us plan our day and she is the warmest person, quite an asset to the Avalon. The rest of the staff, which I didn't get the names but were as exceptional. We never felt not at home...always felt welcome. The room was very clean, with beautiful drapes/nets over the bed, a bed that's like butter to lull you to sleep, towels are so fluffy and we all had robes each! The bathroom was squeaky clean and with toiletries in case you forgot to bring some, all packaged in nice dainty designed containers. Never ran out of hot water to shower too! Breakfast was awesome and being it in the porch made it half the fun to watch the buzz in town, even yet, right across the Butterfly conservatory, the southernmost point, and the city tour trolley/rides! Can we say: CONVENIENCE! there's a pool in the back if the day gets too hot for you. They provided towels for you in case you didn't bring a beach towel too. Once we got back with our day trips we are welcomed back with some cool sweet tea or lemonade with a treat of either brownies or cookies. They provide water, coffee and tea all day, and fruit to take once you leave for the day...hey an apple/banana/orange a day keeps the doctor away! What a charming perfectly located places to stay. One block from the Southern Most Point popular picture taking attraction with lines that could stretch for blocks. I was glad I didn't have to stand in the long lines since I could come by anytime when it wasn't so busy! Parking across the street was seamless and you can dive off and in as long as you have a parking permit. The breakfast was hot and cold, not just continental. You can walk the whole busy downtown area from this location and the free public shuttle was also a plus. Will pick a larger room next time, since the smaller queen room was a bit too tight to move around in with luggage and stuff. Thank You for being a great host! read more

This place is so great. Off the craziness of Duval but still on Duval. Located by the southernmost point, great for first timers to key West because it is by everything. Beds were nice, small, but still very comfortable. The hotel attendant was incredibly nice and acommodating to our needs. There is always fresh fruit, coffee, beverages, and cookies out to grab if you miss breakfast. The inn itself is a gem of building. Rooms were renovated beautifully. Bath robes and towels nice, with great smelling soaps. Even the pool in the back is quaint but nice and heated. Overall, I wish I could stay here every time we come to key West read more

I love this place. Staff is extra accommodating. This property is on the "less busy" side of Duval so expect activity but no vomit in the street when you wake up. :) Parking is a challenge so get to the property as close to check in as possible to secure a place at the scooter rental place for 25.00 a night. Which is a steal. Loved the deck with the "pool" and the dining Al fresco for breakfast. We did take out and ate while people watching every night. Blissful stay. Stayed for 3 days mid week a couple years ago but doubt it's changed too much (149$ for small room). We were thrilled. Huge bed, with beautiful white netting overtop. Room was immaculate throughout, smelled wonderful, with small bathroom but had great tiled shower with lovely bath products. Staff were extremely friendly. Courtyard/pool was indeed small and we never used, but Southernmost house at end of Duval (1 block away) had tremendous $5 deal for use of pool, free drink, and waterfront sunbathing! Upon arriving after a long drive from Miami - with unexpected traffic that made us miss the check-in deadline - we were greeted with a condescending lecture by the staff about our failure to notify them of our late arrival. That was not the kind of welcome we expected when we were exhausted late at night, especially at the price we paid for a 2 night stay! We had a fantastic time at the Avalon. The location is absolutely perfect. It's a short walk from the beach and the Southernmost Point. Plenty of shops and dining spots are literally a short stroll from its front door. The building: A gorgeous historic house built circa 1895. It has been lovingly restored and is kept in spotless condition. Our room had beautiful wood floors and high ceilings. The bathroom was spacious, with plenty of room for me (I'm 6'5"). We traveled during the Christmas season and the house was bathed in lights. Tourists will stop and take pictures. That's how pretty it is. There's a small pool in the back. Overall, the house exceeded my expectations. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The housekeeping staff ensures your room is impeccable. The manager, Yvonne, is great. She really knows what she's doing. Breakfast is very good. There's a wide selection of fruits, bagels, croissants, coffee, etc. Every day there will be a little change. The first day we were there mini quiches available. The second, ham and cheese croissants, and the third, English muffin sandwiches. Everything was fresh and tasty. We were very satisfied. My only slight complaint is that sound travels easily though the house. All the guests that were present when we stayed were considerate and kept noise to a minimum, but I can imagine loud talkers could potentially be a problem. I am a hard man to please; I prefer the finer things in life. When one goes on holiday everything should work in their favor so that their time is spent care free and when one travels to Key West - Care Free is the idea. Avalon I found by mistake almost a decade ago and have been coming back every since. I was one of the first guests and this can be confirmed by looking in the old Guest Log Books and you can see I am third entry in the very first book. Since ten years have passed the place has changed owners but the style and grace that the staff maintains has remained constant. The facility is maintained in a spotless manner. Each room is cleaned to perfection every morning and one cannot mention morning without discussing the included Breakfast that is served for all the guests on the front porch. Nothing like starting your day on the front porch looking out upon paradise and feeling the warmed Gulf Stream breezes slide across your face. What is to note is that even though this place is clean to the point that Mr. Clean would eat off the floor they also permit animals to stay with you. The Avalon is perfectly located on Duval Street. A half block from the southern most beach in the United States and a few blocks down from the major activities on Duval. So you get to be close to everything but also far enough away so that when it is time to turn out your candle it is peaceful and quiet enough to sleep. I should also note that the best room in the place is room 22. Ahh! The memories! Have fun, enjoy! read more

This place was cute, comfortable and i think you're really paying for the location when you come here. The place was quiet, clean and staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms are small but have everything you would need. Walls are pretty thin, so we did hear it every time our neighbors opened and closed their doors. It felt more like a hotel to me than a bed and breakfast. The breakfast was fine, but felt like a standard hotel continental breakfast and not a personalized home-cooked breakfast that I've had at other bed and breakfasts. Eating on the porch was lovely, though. The pool was very small and so we opted out on that, though i thought it was cute that they had sunscreen available for guests. Overall, we had a nice stay, but for the price point and the title of "bed and breakfast" i was hoping for a cozier, more personal feeling, ambience. read more

We were here April 4-6 2014 had the honeymoon cottage. We got married on the beach in key west and they put rose petals on the bed, had fresh cold lemonade and cookies on the table in the lobby every day. It includes a continental breakfast that's pretty basic. Plenty of fresh fruit and I noticed sausage gravy and biscuits the 2nd morning not sure if they were there 1st morning. I prefer eggs so we went out but my husband tried the gravy and said it was good. The staff extremely friendly. They will book your activities for you and it's the same cost or cheaper and they give you free drink coupons for places. They also called a cab for me. The night we got married there was a wedding card in our door. The pool was right outside of our cottage and there were some kids staying there and they were a little loud after doing the Duval crawl after our wedding. Absolutely beautiful. Good showing of the history of the building itself. Staff is very friendly, on the quiet end of Duvall street, 5 minute walk the Atlantic Ocean and the Southernmost Point. Beds come with soft mattress toppers and linens were so fresh and clean. I work in the hospitality industry focusing on hotels so believe me, I know what a clean linen is lol. We got the romance celebration package and it was so stunning. Warm homemade cookies in lobby with hand made infused drinks and water every day. Warm continental breakfast which changed each day we were there. Omelettes one day, spinanch quiche the next, and scrambled eggs and sausage the last. Walk in shower in our room. Housekeeping was so friendly. Definitely worth staying at and will be my wife and I's home hotel when we come back to Key West. read more

The Avalon is a special little guesthouse on the quite end of Duval St. away from all the craziness, but just close enough as well. Our King room was beautifully kept with a nice, big comfy King Size bed, covered with an elegant white netting. We were very pleasantly surprised! The amenities in the room were of a higher quality, from the bath accessories to the bed linens. We were even provided plush Bath Robes. Sound was not an issue at the Avalon. We didn't hear any of the other guests during our stay. A big bonus for staying here is the wonderful breakfast provided on the front porch every morning. Coffee, Juice, Fresh Fruit, Yogurt, Cereal, Bread & Bagels for toasting along with all the spreads, Peanut Butter, Jam, and Cream Cheese. A nice and healthy way to start your day in Paradise! When I think of bed and breakfast establishments, I picture outstanding service, gourmet food items, and being treated as one would expect as a cherished guest. This place missed the mark. Yvonne picks and chooses who she speaks with, does not show empathy or concern if you voice a complaint, and has a "you can stay elsewhere" demeanor. The building and grounds are very nice- well kept for a 100 year old house. There's a small pool for cooling off and plenty of tables and chairs to sit at. The average room price in the off season is $250. When checking in, I asked about arranged parking and was curtly told there was none. I mentioned reading about it in reviews and was told that those reviews were old. I don't consider 4-6 month old reviews to be old. Wifi slow- not enough bandwidth. Continental breakfast is from the generic, value and off brand aisle of your discount grocer. Even the keurig cups are the cheap ones. This place masquerades as a B&B as it is more like an overpriced motel 6. read more

First impression upon arrival was a well kept and appealing exterior. We arrived after normal check in hours and had called ahead to notify, the after hours check in was an easy process. Our room was immaculate and exactly fit the bill for a romantic anniversary honeymoon. Keith greeted us the next morning, always smiling and happy to assist make our stay first rate, as was all staff we encountered, not only in regards to Avalon, but in Key West as a whole. Morning coffee and breakfast on the veranda was a great start to planning the day, with the expanded continental fare well planned without weighing you down. The pool area was kept spotless, and the pool was adequate for a dip to cool off and crystal clear. If you are looking for resort amenities like a lap pool and weight room, book a resort. If you are looking for an intimate stay with exceptional attention to detail and service, Avalon should be on your radar. The only down side is a lack of parking on site. A city run lot and paid on street parking is available at a rate of $40 per day, although free on street parking can be found. The closest we found regularly was about 2 blocks away. read more
