Our very first experience. I was looking for a good bagel, that wasn't from a chain store or supermarket. I wanted a good cup of local blended coffee. I found both at Avalon Coffee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is cute and inviting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were immediately warmly greeted at the bagel counter by a young lady full of vigor. I selected a dozen bagels, and I agree they do not resemble a traditional bagel, but THAT"S WHAT I AM HERE FOR! I give a lot of credit for the whipped cream cheese blends. The scallion cream cheese was on point. The bagels were heavy, dense and thick. I thoroughly enjoyed this bagel for what it was and it's certainly unique compared to traditional bagels. Customer service was aces. Quality was above average. Avalon Coffee gained a new loyal customer today. read more

I think your experience at Avalon Coffee is completely dependent on time and day. That said, given the popularity of this spot during peak times, and the fact that it's a longstanding business, I was really disappointed in the disorganization in what I hoped would be a quick and easy visit to Avalon Coffee. I popped in on a summer Friday morning, and you can tell this is one of, if not THE, spots to hit up for your coffee run. When you walk in, there's a line for baked goods and a line for drinks. They have a great variety of bagels and pastries, but there's was an entire display case of baked goods near the check-out that you would never see if you're in the designated baked goods line. There were lots of staff (read: teens and college students) running around behind the counter, but only a handful seemed to be actually serving customers. The baked goods line grew out the door quickly due to multiple large orders of bagels, and only one staff member taking orders. Once you receive your baked goods, I guess you have to get in the coffee line? Except the coffee line was more of a coffee blob. With multiple specialty drink orders, there was a number of confused costumers. We couldn't tell who had been helped, who was waiting to order, and who was in line to pay. I came to Avalon Coffee for what I thought would be a simple order: an iced black coffee and plain croissant, and despite being one of maybe 6 customers when I walked in, it took over 15 minutes. The coffee was good, but the croissant was dry, and it was not worth the confusion and wait that it took to acquire. Because it was so disorganized, the line built up quickly and was out the door by the time I paid (which was a third, separate line?) Honestly, unless it's non-peak time, I don't see me suffering through the chaos for a plain black iced coffee. The bagels are big and have a wonderful texture and you get a lot of cream cheese. The prices are a little on the pricey side but I'm willing to pay it for the quality and portion. The coffee is okay. Not awful but not memorable. The staff are helpful but it can get a little confusing as to who is actually serving you. You order bagels in one spot, coffee in another, pay down the counter to some other person then have to walk over the slip to get your sandwich to prove you paid for the food. There was 8 different people behind the counter. All talking to you at some point. Feel like they could have a better system. I always stop by for a bagel and lox cream cheese but for me, the chaos keeps me from returning multiple times when I'm in town. Regardless, I still think it's worth checking out. read more

Visiting Avalon for an appointment, decided to get a coffee. I saw their 2 1/2 star average and almost went elsewhere. Glad I didn't! Line out the door on a summer Saturday late morning but it moved quickly. I like that they have separate lines for food and beverage orders. I can see how it could be confusing, but c'mon people. It's not that hard. Certainly no reason to give a negative review. My iced espresso was ready sooner than expected, and it was a generous pull. I'll go back. I used to really like this place when my family would vacation to Avalon, after my visit this past Friday I am disappointed. The store was packed and no one was respecting social distancing rules. The sandwich was subpar at best, overcooked egg and minimal cheese. Save your money and go elsewhere, also coffee was weak. read more

Let's just say, disaster is an understatement. The entire process from order to payment was so poorly designed it was laughable. This review is for the Avalon location. The bagels have changed over the years and they are now more dense and less fluffy. They don't make them here but purchase them through the main location. The coffee is ok but not great. They keep the temp too high and if it sits it tastes burnt. Sure, we have all seen inflation, but they are now charging $2.50 for a plain bagel which is higher than NYC. Wow, what a rip-off! Pop off they island and bagels are $1.50. Breakfast sandwiches are about $10 bucks. The whole ordering process is a bit disorganized, and the lines can be long and slow. Not what it used to be. read more

Two and a half stars is more like it. I'm not sure why the quality of products at this location seems lower than at the Sea Isle location. The breakfast sandwiches my crew ordered yesterday were pretty weak. The bagels were more like dense rolls, and by 10:30 mostly all of the flavors were sold out. I will give it up to the staff, who seemed to be hustling. The line wasn't too long when we arrived, but we were at the front and ordering within seconds because there were so many people taking orders. I'd probably give this place another shot since I really like the location in Sea Isle. Maybe it was an off day. read more

Note to owner: when someone pays you extra for extra shots of espresso, please instruct your "barista" to NOT just run more water through the same coffee. To date I've only ever written 2 bad reviews. I worked for years in the service industry and generally have sympathy for most service workers. However, I was compelled to write this review because of how awful Avalon coffee has become. I am not an avid coffee drinker but I enjoy their bagel sandwiches. While it usually takes way longer than it should for bagels in this establishment it's never deterred me from going in. I went into AV coffee around 1 PM on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. I was the only person in the store, the 5 employees continued to clean up around the store and who I would imagine was the owner was carrying boxes out to the parking lot. It took over 3 minutes for anyone to take my order. When my iced coffee was done the associate handed it to me and the lid was not on tightly. This caused the ice coffee to spill all over the counter and onto the floor. I said sorry right away and started to grab napkins to clean it up, while the associate made me a new beverage. After handing me my drink, I kept grabbing napkins and was on my hands and knees cleaning the coffee off the floor. Not 1 employee offered to help or even get a towel. I asked for a towel and was just given a sideways glance while the woman who made my drink went back to cleaning. Never a comment or apology about the spill, or even an attempt to help me clean or even get me a towel. At no point will I ever be back in Avalon coffee. I can understand Labor Day fatigue from employees but this was offensive. read more

Came here with my friend in the morning for bagels and coffee and had a great experience! We arrived around 10 am on a weekday and waited for about 10 or so minutes in line. I got an everything bagel with egg and cheese and my friend got the same but on a plain bagel. We both got iced coffees that were really good! I was a huge fan of the many different kinds of milk and sweeteners that are available to add to your coffee - my friend and I only take almond milk in our coffee so we were happy to see that available and for no extra charge! The bagels were also very good and probably some of the best I've had in the area. I gave 4/5 stars mainly due to the long wait - we waited in line to order and then had to wait again to pay and for our food to be ready. Other than that everything was great. Would definitely come back for a quick breakfast! read more

I paid a visit to Avalon Coffee after a few years frequenting other establishments. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It was Sunday morning shortly after opening. Lots of staff who were friendly and attentive. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and a dozen bagels for the rest of the family. I must say the bagels were huge. And fresh. The breakfast sandwich, made to order was ready by the time I poured my coffee. Lots of kudos from the family when I arrived home. The coffee was piping hot. read more

So sad, the bagels are no where near as good as they used to be. We are not sure what has changed, but they are now dense and dry. They seem a day old. I was in here about two weeks ago and placed an order. I have been standing there for well over 30 minutes. They were really busy. So at first I didn't notice how long I had been standing there but when I did I inquired about my order. And no one can seem to find it and they question whether or not I had already picked it up. I was holding my receipt that you're supposed to hand in when you pick up your order. Anyway they made my order and when I got back to the house in Stone harbor I realized that the Taylor ham egg and cheese I ordered was missing the Taylor ham. When I called I was told that they were really busy, that a lot of kids went back to school etc. etc. etc. Basically like oh well what do you want me to do about it? Terrible service. I mean mistakes are made I get it but this was a double whammy and then they weren't ready to do anything to compensate. Except to give me excuses. read more

This quaint coffee shoppe is the bomb! It's the social place to be, relaxing on the outside patio with some iced- coffee and pasties / bagels. The staff is smiling and busily preparing your egg bagel sandwiches. The pork roll is sliced thin and plentiful. Dog friendly with a water dish and a leash hook up! I visit this place daily, try it out..it's the only place to get your morning Joe while on vacation. read more

This place is an absolute cluster f***. First of all they have a MAJOR customer flow issue. You walk in and it's just a mob of people that are clueless on where to go and what to do to place an order. People are skipping the whole line to place a drink order and making it even more crowded and confusing. As soon as you walk in, it's a mess of people. Second of all they have young kids working there, that are probably an accessory to their parents money, that have ZERO concept of what working is. These kids have absolutely no pep in their step what so ever. The girls are out in la la land just putsing around while there's a mob of customers waiting for their food. They've got a kid, probably the age of 12, working the grill for the entire place, which he has no business in doing. Third of all, once we finally get our TWO bagels, one has a literal dollop of cream cheese on it, not spread on, just plopped on the bagel, the other has sesame seeds all over it, when I ordered a plain bagel because I am highly allergic to sesame. This place just monopolizes on the fact that they are the only bagel place in Avalon, so they can do whatever they want. I'd rather go to Wawa. read more

Really shocks me to see that Avalon Coffee has so few stars. I live down the shore in the summer and work at a local market and never fail to enjoy myself or the food here. So where do I start? Their lox and bagel sandwich is to die for. With the combo of great cream cheese and lox topped with a thin slice of tomato and red onion- it's amazing and flavorful. Their other bagel sandwiches are great too- like the Mediterranean or Waldorf chicken salad. I love that they have great bagel and cream cheese options as well. One of my favorite things here is their iced coffee- if you stop in make sure you grab one. Last but not least, they are amazing for catering. They have great tray options and will even deliver!! This place needs to figure out a better traffic pattern to move people through the shop. Black coffee drinkers have to squeeze by people ordering pastries to get to the thermoses, then turn backward through espresso orderers to get sugar and cream. Then all three groups collide at the register. The owners should invest in a retail consultant to observe the current system and redesign it. The wi-fi also seems to work only inside the small shop and not at outside seating. The coffee itself is fine, not great. They are coasting on being the only coffee shop in Avalon. When it first opened, I really liked Avalon Coffee. I always ignored their incredibly inefficient setup because the coffee was good. I was able to deal with the 15 year olds barely working the counter and the fact that you had to wait in the sandwich line to pour your own coffee. However on my last two trips, the coffee has been awful. I hoped that this place would not become a typical shore establishment that produces poor quality for a high price, but I guess it was just a matter of time. read more

My Iced Caramel Latte was OK, but honestly I was expecting way more out of the ONLY coffee shop in Avalon. There was only one person out of five people on staff who knew how to make my drink....Which took 60 seconds to make (typically it takes at least 60 seconds to pour a shot of espresso....questionable) This place has potential but looks to me like a classic example of a coffee shop in need of expert coffee help. read more

I don't know what I was served when I ordered an espresso, but it wasn't that. It's hard to find proper coffee down here, but Avalon was so atrocious I tossed it in the trash and walked out. I received a paper cup with about 4-5 ounces of dark black coffee, with no crema and a very weak, very strange flavor. I suspect it was at least partly made from grinds that had already been used, but that doesn't explain why it was so large and weak. And no, it wasn't an Americano, either. read more

Amazing coffee and food but some of the worst service ever. I've been here a few times this summer and have really enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches, bagels and coffee. If you go on the weekend, be prepared to be there for 30 min waiting in line, confused and stressed, watching hoards of the employees' friends budge in line and get their food before you. If you go on a weekday it should be better. Also calling ahead is helpful to get your food quicker but check to make sure they include everything because they forgot a sandwich in our order today. Great food but there needs to be more leadership or guidance for the high schooler employees that work there. Up to you if you can deal with the headache of interacting with the employees for the quality food they have. Good luck. read more

Good bagel and drip-style coffee stop. Had a whole wheat everything bagel with veg cream cheese. It seems that even in the off-season it's pretty busy. They offer fruit smoothies but Dan could not be convinced to try it. He loves a good fruit smoothie. The staff was helpful and they have tables out front to relax and nosh. read more

Coffee not so good The shop is a little confusing if you are not a regular. You walk in, you dont know where to go, you cant see the coffee cups, you dont know if you are supposed to stand in line...just over all confusing...then you tell the young cashier what you get...really?
