The Highlights: Quick service - We got seated right away at about 5:15pm and were checked up on a few times throughout our meal. :) Refillable popcorn ! Very cool and different. It tasted like hot sauce and old bay. Gem salad - very crisp and refreshing! Not too much dressing or cheese. Meatballs (I forgot the name but on the menu it started with a P) - interesting flavor as it was mixed with different meats. Nothing to brag about but the small piece of bread with it was pretty good and chewy. Hanger steak was great because it was cooked a perfectly medium rare but a little disappointing. This is such a nice, upscale restaurant with excellent food in Avalon. You do not need to dress up but the atmosphere, the service, the food, all give you the fancy vibes. They do not accept reservations but we came early at 4PM for dinner. We opted for outdoor dining on a beautiful, warm, sunny day. We got seated outdoor in the rear corner. Excellent spot for people watching as it was across from a pub and many other stores. The only thing that I didn't like about this corner was that there was a bunch of flies that converged there. They came at us when the food arrived so didn't have too much of a relaxing meal after that. We were given a canister of popcorn for appetizer after we got our drinks. I ordered the spicy shrimp ramen and my hubby got the Huli Marinated chicken. We received excellent service from our server and the food was delicious too. Generous portions! I could not even finish my ramen, so sad as it was so delicious. 6 large shrimp, not too spicy, fresh noodles and broth. My husband's Huli chicken was bomb! Half a chicken marinated and you get to choose 2 sides as well. We got pork belly and potato wedges. The chicken was juicy inside and out!! He ate half and saved the other half to go. The patio doesn't really have water views or anything magical , but the the over all look and feel of the restaurant is upscale and casual at the same time . The service was great / no issues . I would agree the mask wearing of their staff could be better but I'm not a stick in the mud about that . The food itself fell short ... the appetizers we tried seemed like frozen microwaveable items . It got to an point where we got grossed out and just enjoyed our drinks and pushed the food off to the side with no desire for a to go box . Great dining experience for our Friday night dinner. It wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. It has a semi upscale, classy vibe and the waiters are also dressed the part. Our waiter, Jimmy was fantastic! He started by explaining the menu and was able to describe in detail every dish we asked about, as well as give his recommendations. He checked on us frequently and never rushed us. I informed him of my shellfish allergy and he was cautious to ensure octopus was ok, which I really appreciated. Food: They provide complimentary popcorn, that had a little kick of spice to it. This was well received as we were starving coming in here. We ordered the grilled octopus, as recommended by Jimmy, and this was so delicious. Tender octopus, with a crispy, well seasoned outside that had a side of mixed bean salad. For entrees we got the AG wagyu burger and the grilled peach Cobb salad. The salad was under the small or shared plates section, but it was a huge portion,more than enough for my dinner portion. It was loaded with toppings, half an avocado, chickpeas, goat cheese, tomatoes, grilled peaches, and crispy prosciutto. I took off some of the goat cheese, because it was just a lot. The grilled peaches were delicious and the crispy prosciutto gave it a nice crunch and saltiness; I just would've loved more prosciutto. The dressing was a sherry mustard and was just ok. The wagyu burger was juicy, tender, and flavorful. The tomato jam adds just a bit of sweetness to balance out the savory. Our hotel gave us a $20 voucher to come here, which was an added plus. At about 45 minutes in we asked where our food is and were told it would be out in a few minutes, it wasn't, our food came out about 15 minutes later because it was an hour from the time we arrived to when we got our food. When it was dropped off it wasn't hot like it was just done. We immediately asked for boxes and the check so we could leave. The waiter was nice, but seems like they are spread too thin or don't manage their tables well. We were told the wait would be around 15 minutes and gave our phone number for the hostess to contact us when our table was ready. We had a filet which was great but my favorite was the Bison, it was perfect. We also got the brussel sprouts which were the best I've ever had. Avalon grille was the restaurant that we tried the first time we've ever been to Avalon. They opened for lunch and had extended hours on weekend nights. The hours now are very limited so the wait gets really long most of the time. And they don't take reservations anymore. We had our birthday dinner here after our beach club day. We put our names in when it just opened that evening so we didn't have to wait at all. The menu was extensive enough, some healthy items and a little bit of everything for everybody. The lavender martini and Vesper martini were great pours. Everybody liked the complimentary popcorns. For food we had citrus salad and shishito peppers as healthy apps. Two orders of New York steak with pork belly, cioppino and swordfish as entrees. Everything was so yummy in healthy portions. The pork belly was the best we'v ever had. The kids mac and cheese was yummy as well. It just the lamb burger was so burnt that we had to send it back. The coffee cake and ice cream were so delicious as desserts. We had dinner here this evening. The restaurant ambiance is very nice and warm. The servers and service were very good. Was mixed on the food (see below). Food: - Margarita Verde drink - very good - Mac and cheese small bites plate - very good. Creamy and tasty cavatappi. There was way plenty to share between the 2 of us. - Cauliflower soft taco trio with blue corn tortillas, and blue corn tortilla chips and guacamole - very good. Good flavor, substantial tacos. - Hanger steak with chimichurri sauce, served with truffle steak frites. Ahhh. The frites were like an elevated version of the brick of curly fries you get at a county fair. These were very thin, crispy (to the point of shattering all over the place if you didn't break them apart right), and very tasty. Enjoyed these a lot. But... the hanger steak was a real disappointment. I had it medium rare. That was done correctly. The steak itself was very mealy (like when beef is marinated way too long). Even with the chimichurri sauce, it wasn't up to par. And it seemed to be under-salted as well. Overall, the steak was just bland-tasting. Pretty disappointing considering the price point ($37). The price - high, but that's expected of these types of restaurants. It would have been more worth it had the entire meal been enjoyable. read more
