I have been a returning customer for quite some time, and this is the first visit where I felt the pricing was inconsistent and unclear. I was charged over $95 for a basic full set with cat eye polish and no detailed nail art. While I understand cat eye is an additional charge, the final total still seemed excessive compared to what I have paid in the past. When I requested an itemized receipt, the staff appeared unsure of the breakdown and had to ask the nail technician directly, which added to the confusion regarding the pricing. I was also charged for a nail removal, yet I was left soaking for an extended period before my service even began, which left my nails feeling extremely dehydrated afterward. I have visited their other location (Palace Nails) multiple times and have never experienced these issues before. This visit gave me the impression that pricing is no longer consistent or transparent. Spending nearly $95 on a relatively simple set without intricate designs was disappointing, especially considering the overall experience. The pedicure was great, especially the foot massage part. But warning everything is an up-charge. I received a dip manicure and she started doing my dip and I had to stop an ask "are you not going to cut my cuticles". She said that's an extra $10. I'm sorry but in what world does a manicure not mean it starts cutting cuticles, filing nails, etc. For $50 you would think that would be included like every other salon I've been too. She was delighted by the ambience and vibe, because it's very serene and luxurious. What I liked was how thorough they were with my pedicure-- I had the feet of a different woman by the time I was done! This time I got an ombré dip powder manicure. Thue did an amazing job, even going back and refiling my nails when I realized that my City Girl days are over, and I probably can't hang with the loooong nails I loved in my halcyon summers of youth. Worst pedicures of my life. Every time I leave there my feet have been rough and I don't have horrible feet! The vibe is very much like an assembly line. It's pretty and seems clean but the first time there was construction while we were there and couldn't even hear to talk to each other. It's just too hurried. I went into the shop asking for a gel refill on my two big toes and a full set. One of the employees took me, she did my toes first and told me that I didn't need a refill yet so I said "okay you can just give me a repolish" and she said "okay." Once she's done with my toes she starts on my nails. While she's doing them I notice she's not doing anything I normally see people do when I get my nails done so I remind her that I'm getting a full set and she says "Oh I didn't know you only tell me gel." I reminded her that I did tell her before she started my services. Once it came time to pay my total, it was higher than I expected. Since the employee let me know I only needed a repolish, I was only expecting to pay for that and the full set. However, they charged me for a regular manicure and a full set because the employee said she "thought" I wanted a regular manicure. I'm not sure how she thought that when I clearly stated from the beginning exactly what I wanted. They also charged me extra for "long nails" ??? I'm very confused, since when is this considered long? I've been here many times and the last time I had my mani/pedi done some of the workers, I always ask for the same people, Tracy and Lee, got mad and made a scene at the checkout desk. I spend too much money there to feel embarrassed because they want to make the money. I understand, but I'm used to my two workers. Thank God I was sent to them from the start. I find that this is kind of a workshop, rather than a personal feel. It's very expensive and they do not do any extras, such as cuticles on your hands or feet unless you ask. They are very quick and kind, but it's not worth the money for an 8 out of 10 mani/pedi. I did have a Headicure there and was amazed by this process. You have to treat yourself to one. I was not provided the color I request because they didn't have it. The nail tech chose the next number/color (182) and told me it was the same. It was not the same color I wanted.I told her I didn't like it because it was too pink. She asked if I wanted to cover it with chrome or gel polish. I chose chrome. When I got to the register I was told I had to pay for both the wrong dip and the chrome. When I refused I was told I needed to remove the chrome. But the dip was too pink so removing the chrome (which I didn't have time to do) would have meant I would be left with the ugly pink dip! read more

I wanted a full set (acrylics) as well as (acrylic) toenails and a full pedicure with callus scrubbing, the whole 9. I've gotten my nails done here before and they are a little pricey but they are worth it since I have never experienced chipped or breakage etc. Long story short I got my manicure and it was fine. I got my pedicure and the lady took a pumice stone and lightly scrubbed one small area on my left foot and that was it. I don't even know why she filled the basin up and brought out all these products only to not use them? When it was time to pay the lady at the front desk told me that I owe 281$! I have never in 20+YRS paid anything even close to that much. I asked her why it was so much and she couldn't or wouldn't give me an actual answer. She mumbled something about an Express pedicure. I looked it up. That's the cheapest pedi option.Still doesn't explain the near 300$ price tag. I got contrasting brown polish on nails & toes with sweater style french tips on either ring finger. She finally tells me ok I will take 20% off of 281$ She said I still owe 271 and if I came back the next day she'd have my calluses scrubbed for 7$ but I wasn't able to come the next day since I am helping my daughter move. I went there on my birthday (Oct. 6, 2020) and I didn't receive all of my services. My nail tech was rushing and skipping steps. While rushing she nicked 2 of my fingers without apologizing. She continued to do my nails while they were bleeding, contaminating those products with my bleed that she never wiped away. I was supposed to receive a call from the manager about this but never did. Tonight (2 1/2 months later) my cousin wanted to come here for a pedicure. It was my treat and I wanted to go where she wanted. While she was getting ready for her pedicure I asked to speak to a manager to see if they would finally apologize for the poor service, customer service and poor sanitation ( SHE DIDN'T). Instead, she debate about someone calling me and stated that my situation was a long time ago. I told her I was considering getting my nail done but I'm trying to feel comfortable about allowing them to service me again. Opposed to trying to make me feel comfortable again, she told me if I don't feel comfortable I shouldn't get it done. I treated my cousin to the $55 deluxe pedicure and left a $15 tip but they didn't allow her to dry her toe polish because they was ready to go home at 7:04. After going to the same nail salon for years, I decided to try out a new place. I've came here before about 8 years ago & I just wanted to see if they could compare to the usual place I go to. Starting off, there was a wait time, which of course I didn't mind waiting to be seated. My feet/legs were getting massages in the mean time & I enjoyed it thoroughly (thank you, Tony). After the massage, I had to wait for a nail tech to come & paint my toes, which took about 15-20 mins. Again, I didn't mind waiting, but the water soak was cold and I was beginning to wonder when they would work on me. After a while of waiting around, a woman finally started working on me and I was happy. But I guess she was busy and they were completely booked taking clientele left & right. So I'm not really surprised that she didn't take her time on me. What I was most upset about was my resulting pedicure. Paint job was good but the shape/cut/file was absolutely horrendous. It honestly looks like a dorito chip with how triangular it came out. I guess I should have said something. Overall, pros -lovely massages *so good* -good paint job -nice employee & service cons -long wait time -bad execution -kind of expensive ($45) in comparison to the usual place I go to ($30) but it's preference at the end of the day read more

I've been to Avalon a few times and each time I'm left feeling like my experience could have been better. I don't get my nails done as consistently as I once did, so whenever I've come to Avalon it's usually because I'm in a pinch and have an event to go to and need a place that's close and takes walk-ins. Let's start with the positives. Avalon is conveniently located right off the Westbank expressway by Manhattan. The shop is spacious and clean. They have a decent color selection, do natural nails and acrylics, every nail tech that I've had is kind, and as a walk-in I've rarely waited more than about 30 minutes to get into the chair. Whenever I've gotten a pedicure it comes with a leg and foot massage and the gentleman that typically does the massage is absolutely fabulous. He works out kinks in your shin that you didn't even know where there. Where I'm usually left wanting more is in the quality of the service. Over the course of all the times I've visited, I've had some decent sets and I've had some that weren't so great. I typically get dip powder on my natural nails as it tends to last the longest for me without much wear and tear in between visits. I'm accustomed to other shops doing a gel top coat with this style and curing it under the lamp. Here, they dip your nails and just put on a fast drying polish for the top coat. This may work for others, but for me my nails always crack and chip well before my normal week and a half - two weeks of wear. I asked once if I could get gel as the top coat for my dip so it wouldn't crack, but was told it would have been an additional charge. This is usually included at other salons. I also asked for square as my nail shape and I'm not really sure what shape I walked out with. I expected square to come with a bit more of a defined line and edges, but I what I got was more round and inconsistent from nail to nail. The techs also aren't great with color matching. As I mentioned before I get dip and usually like to have my toes match my nail color. I'm not new to getting my nails done so I'm aware that sometimes the dip color and the accompanying polish don't match exactly. However, in my experience with other salons the techs are knowledgeable of their color library and can suggest a color that may be a better match. Here I'm usually forced to pick a complementary neutral for my toes which isn't terrible, just not what I prefer most of the time. All of these things aren't really the end of the world, and are things that I tend to overlook because I'm the one in a rush, but what really turned me off this past time was how they handle their pricing. They have a menu of services with prices at the front desk where I picked which services I wanted, but when I checked out the price was more than advertised. I got a full dip set (I didn't have anything on my nails prior so there was no takeoff necessary) and I keep my nails pretty short and stick to just a single color. The menu said that it was $45, but I was charged $50. Only $5 so not a huge deal, but I was curious and asked the gentleman checking me out and he seemed confused and said that because I had gotten a new, full set that it was extra. This was odd to me because with dip powder salons typically don't do refills, you have to do a take off and get a new set every time. Not only that, but the menu price was for a new set. I showed him the picture of the menu that I had snapped and he said that it was strange and that it would be addressed and changed. He didn't apologize for the mix up or offer to honor the price that was displayed. The menu did say sport length, but as I mentioned before I keep my nails short, so I can't imagine I was charged for extra length. While the $5 didn't break me, I was a little disappointed to not have the menu price honored especially when the quality of service isn't up to par. Maybe the folks in the shop who are more skilled are always booked up, I also know that some shops are better overall with nail extensions than working with natural nails, so maybe that's the case. Just be aware that if you're going to walk-in that it can sometimes be a mixed bag in terms of quality. read more

I would not recommend going here even if you're desperate. I got a gel pedicure on Sunday and wore heels Monday night and the polish completely came off on my big toe!! It's outrageous! The prices are pretty high for what you're getting. They're very pushy about adding on more and more things to make your bill more expensive. They also seem to really take their time doing eyebrow waxes because there were at least 7 of us in a very small room! I had to sit on a stool while she botched my eyebrows and told me I needed to get my upper lip waxed. I seriously do not recommend coming here even if you absolutely need to. I googled for a nearby nail place since I was on crunch time&came across this place. I shouldve checked Yelp also&its my fault. Reviews&ratings are totally opposite. I walked in&was seated right away. I was getting gel mani&pedicure done. The techs were nice but sometimes being nice just doesn't cut out for the quality of their job. The nail tech was doing my gel mani while the other tech was doing her thing w/my feet. Nail tech painted the color&had me place my hand under the light after each coating. She cleaned around the cuticle for any paint after the nails coming from under the light, massaged my hand with lotion&said done. Mind you, I get gel done all the time&am familiar w/the process. For some reason I questioned myself&thought oh, maybe some places does it diff&etc. She skipped top coat, didnt clean with alcohol&didn't put oil around the cuticle. The place isnt bright nor its dim but you cant really tell until you go outside. I noticed my nails wasnt as shiny and glossy like how it should be after every gel mani. I asked her if she can put some oil on my cuticles and she said yes and that she forgot. I paid&tipped them equally well&left. Got in my car&rubbed my nails with my fingers like i alway do after getting gel&noticed it was tacky&dull. I knew right away that it WAS the top coat that she didnt apply. I doubled checked by reading online the steps to doing gel&yes, she skipped the last few parts. It was like quantity over quality and they were rushing. I went back in there and told the receptionist. She called for the nail tech&she was sure she put top coat. I told her that she didnt&to feel the nail&how tacky sticky it is. She then questioned me and asked if it was dry. I told her it has to be dry if its gel because thats the whole point of getting gel & that it dries quickly under the light. She told me she'll fix it. Another worker came by to see what was going on. Nail tech was trying to save herself&stick to her story. The coworker touched my nails and had this look on her face. She knew right away there was no top coat&told the tech to just fix it&do it right. The nail tech buffed out the nails and then applied the top coat. I told her, see? Thats how its suppose to look&feel. She then blamed it on the lotion. Smh. I know better next time to do my research better. The gel literally only lasted for a week and my toe nails was not even filed straight. Thats sad because some other ppl had experienced the same thing. This is not my first time at Avalon Bar but it will be my last. The secretaries and/or front desk personal is very confused on pricing/services. The prices on the service sheet are incorrect which resulted in confusion for me as a customer and her as the suppler. After the agreement was made on the services/prices I requested for my mother and I, there was still confusion between the front desk and nail techs on the services we were getting. The misconception led me sitting in a chair soaking my nails for almost two hours. If the service was never questioned I'm sure I would still be there. Also, the services listed on the sheet are incorrect or no longer available. I asked, after the service where was the mask as listing under the service sheet I request and they told me it wasn't offered anymore therefore I scheduled to pay for something I was never going to get. You have to watch and question everything at this place. When I am treating myself to these luxuries, I do not want to be on guard! Every customer wants to relax and be confident that the services they requested are the services they are getting and paying for. My mom is a nurse who washes her hands frequently, so unfortunately she acquires more dead skin around the perimeter of her nail than the average person. Any trained professional nail tech would look at my mom's nails and without hesitation recommend a manicure. When my mom asked the nail tech to add the manicure to her service, the nail tech had an attitude! We even heard her talking about my mom amongst the other employees in the shop. At the end of the service, the nail tech was supposed to check us out, but I noticed she hadn't come over to the counter. I was standing there patiently waiting when I the receptionist at the front desk yelled "come and check your customers out", which led me to ask the receptionist with the red hair was she supposed to come and check us out? I got my nails done last Sunday, which was $50... for it to only be 6 days later and they are all coming up. I've been getting dip polish for a year now and this NEVER happens at my normal spot(which was closed due to the holidays) My nails look terrible like they are going on 2 weeks. How terrible for $50???? My coworkers and I put together some money to treat our office manager to get a relaxing mani/pedi($90 gift certificate) AFTER she gets her services done, the girl at the front desk tells her there is NO money on it. I've called THREE times and went into the store-I have yet to speak to a manager about this. Doesn't seem like anyone else wanted to help figure this information out either. We chose this place because they took appointments where each of us didn't have to wait long and we could all sit together. I sat in my chair and my 3 year old daughter in the chair next to me. Our water was filling up, almost full, and when I put my feet in the water it was hot! As I was telling the technician to add cold water, my daughter stood up in her water and started screaming. I jumped up and grabbed her out. Her feet were so red. It all happened so fast. She didn't want anything to do with a pedicure after that, and sat on my lap and cried while I got mine done. Management did what they could to make it right by not charging me for my service, but my main reason for this review is for others knowledge. If you bring a small child, please check their water temperature first! Don't trust them to have a comfortable temperature. If I had done that, this traumatic experience for my daughter could have been avoided. read more

Never going here again, I've been there 5 times for service and the last two times my gel polish started chipping in less than a week and the last time I was serviced my acrylic was chipping off on all my nails on the same side.
