Finding a good memory care facility in the area is decent--we looked at a lot of places before we decided on Waterhouse Ridge; and we are happy with the results. I'm pretty surprised with a couple of the negative reviews I've seen. Working with memory care patients is stressful and demanding. Based on the interactions that my family and I have seen we have been very appreciative of the work that the staff does. I highly recommend this facility!

The morning shift worker at 10:00 a.m needs to have some serious training in customer service. I called them to ask about the clinic. She had an entirely snarky attitude the entire time and seemed to hate the fact that I was asking her questions. She was also upset at the fact that our phones were having trouble connecting and that our words were delayed. I apologized to her that our phones were having issues connecting, then I asked if there was a manager I could talk to for more information about the clinic. She told me that I could physically come in to veiw the clinic and talk to someone on Tuesday. To which I said "That works perfect!" After that, however, she immediately told me that I should get my phone fixed before coming in because it will be an issue. Then proceeded to hang up the phone on me. I am astounded by the way she handled the situation. Needless to say, I will no longer will be inquiring.

The residents aren't walking around like Zombies. They're smiling. Interacting!! Having fun! My mom is currently at a spot where not many residents are mobile. Where by 6pm it's a ghost town. And where the staff (minus ONE amazing staffer,) just doesn't care about the residents. It's pretty and new there but there is no warmth. No LIFE. Here at Merrill Gardens, there are so many activities that they have to print it on 11x17 paper and even then, the days are STACKED full!! They have two working vehicles for transportation. With two smiling drivers (Robert and Bob...no joke!) There are daily movies, bingo and bridge and coffee club and crafts and so so much more!! There's margarita Monday and Wine Wednesdays. Friday is a special cocktail hour. They want to get people together and having fun. And they do. And have I mentioned the food? It's actually really good. They have a menu. And a BUNCH of chefs and two restaurants. And 18 servers!! Oh and the staff. Have I mentioned them?? These people with smiles and hugs and WARMTH. All wanting to make it truly HOME for these people. The new leadership of Melissa Ubiles and Karla S bring a warmth, kindness and levity that was missing from Merrill Gardens. I'm so excited to move my mom to her forever home and to have these wonderful people taking care of her!!

We came during the transition from Ackerly and it was difficult, especially on the business side and I am not completely satisfied on that front. Invoicing and ACH has not matched and caused agitation. Monthly texts for proper communication and documentation has continued until just recently (6months). However, I only have great things to say about the memory care unit and staff. They've been stretched, they've pushed and they have been dwindled. However, the staff continues to be amazing. The managing director, Emily, is fantastic. She's worked double time and double responsibilities since our arrival and always has a smile on her face. Med techs are fantastic, personal attention and communications - throughout our residency. Recent additions of new social activities staff: Michelle and Stefana has been incredible. The two work with residents in groups and independently. They reach out and include family members with texts, emails and photos. They have implemented new practices. It has been amazing. Recently they hosted a surprise birthday party for my mother- serving her favorite things, pizza flowers and decorations. It was amazing. I love the personal attention the staff brings to the unit. Fresh baked goodies, dressing my parents up for occasions- including curling hair and makeup. They truly seem to care. I'm so happy we moved. I'm not always around and when away I am confident my mom and dad are in loving hands.

Then, got a call from their scheduler, who was telling me that they were going to come the following day, with an appointment. Not only had they not asked about my schedule (I had a dentist appointment the following day), but had no concern about me telling them that the appointment would not work for me. I told her to cancel everything, but she said that the only person that could cancel things, was the salesperson, who owns the company. So I told her to have him call me. When he called, he said that he would have to charge me for canceling the appointment in less than 48 hours. I quickly pointed out that they hadn't scheduled the appointment with less than 24 hours notice, giving me no notice. After that, he promised to refund my money! It has been 2 weeks, 4 phone calls I've made, messages left, and them still not refunding my money (as promised)!! Don't trust them. They will steal your money, lie to you, and act as though their unacceptable actions, are your fault! Not a good company!! Outrageous prices, and no concern about the needs of the patient, or the massive charges that they have!! For your sake, look for someone better to assist you.

Our first impression came from retirement counselor Veronica, whose warmth, compassion, and guidance were exceptional. We assumed Touchmark was simply putting its very best foot forward by having someone like her lead prospective families through the process. What we've learned since my father moved in is that Veronica wasn't the exception--she exemplifies Touchmark's culture. Every staff member we've met has shown such kindness, respect, and genuine interest and care. Touchmark's marketing materials talk about being a friend, an ally, and a giver. In our experience, they absolutely walk the walk. My dad tells people often, "This place employs every kind of person, but they all have one thing in common: they're NICE. And not fake, plastic nice." Knowing my father is surrounded by people who treat him with such warmth and dignity has given us enormous peace of mind.
