It's evident the moment you walk in, and it's bright and welcoming. Where else can a medicaid recipient have their own studio apartment, not shared with anyone? I know of no other assisted living facility who offers that. It's one of the benefits of being mission driven and not for profit. Care and humanity can remain at the forefront rather than profit.

Where do I start. This facility needs a complete overhaul…read more The lack of communication is ridiculous. When you do finally speak with an employee they basically say it's the resident (family member) causing any or all issues that may arise. There is ZERO accountability on the facilities end. The finger is pointed at the resident for many different reasons, some may be concerning but then again, those go without being addressed as well. Favoritism runs high. Be careful your mother or father may be the nurse or the activities directors favorite today but tomorrow the communication may suddenly be cut off , leaving your loved one to wonder what they did wrong. Emails, phone calls, text messages go days sometimes weeks unanswered. In my case not at all from the resident services director when we were in the process of moving my mother. December 17th I left a message. To this day I have not received a return phone call. How is that acceptable. Don't bother calling the CEO. His assistant is his assistant. My phone call was not taken seriously and the return message was as if nothing had been talked about. So disappointing. They will defend whatever they see fit when it comes to staff. To me, anything that concerns me about my mother, I should be able to get a prompt answer and in my opinion the place that is in charge of her daily care, should show a little more compassion and empathy and urgency to have addressed those concerns.. You will not get that here. All of this comes from the top and is a domino effect as to how things are run. They follow their lead and it's obvious that the concern is just not there. Like I mentioned, Unless your loved one is favored and or well liked. Otherwise the care is subpar. If your loved one is difficult like mine, expect the blame for any issues to be shifted in that direction. Assumption does not and will not take responsibility for any mistakes or mishaps that may occur on their end. This is everywhere at Assumption. Somehow my 86 years old mother was able to hide and hoard medications. 2 bottles full of pills. I believe that shows serious lack of care and is potentially very dangerous. The corporate office ignored this subject as if I had made it up. NO follow up, no follow through on this subject at all. Ignored completely. Reception is rude, The website still has the mothers day greeting from 2020, why??? There are no activities going on. Communication is lacking greatly and we moved my mom out in December and were left with a very bad taste in our mouths. I could go on and on but I think you get the gist. I would not recommend Assumption village to anyone looking for a new home and needing to be cared for by someone else. Please take the time to do your research before signing a contract here. Moving a loved one into a facility is a very big decision that should not betaken lightly and needs to be researched, If you are looking for somewhere they will be treated well and you as a family member will feel in the loop as to what is going on, this is not the place for your mother or father. I hope this helps in your decision making!!

The residents aren't walking around like Zombies. They're smiling. Interacting!! Having fun! My mom is currently at a spot where not many residents are mobile. Where by 6pm it's a ghost town. And where the staff (minus ONE amazing staffer,) just doesn't care about the residents. It's pretty and new there but there is no warmth. No LIFE. Here at Merrill Gardens, there are so many activities that they have to print it on 11x17 paper and even then, the days are STACKED full!! They have two working vehicles for transportation. With two smiling drivers (Robert and Bob...no joke!) There are daily movies, bingo and bridge and coffee club and crafts and so so much more!! There's margarita Monday and Wine Wednesdays. Friday is a special cocktail hour. They want to get people together and having fun. And they do. And have I mentioned the food? It's actually really good. They have a menu. And a BUNCH of chefs and two restaurants. And 18 servers!! Oh and the staff. Have I mentioned them?? These people with smiles and hugs and WARMTH. All wanting to make it truly HOME for these people. The new leadership of Melissa Ubiles and Karla S bring a warmth, kindness and levity that was missing from Merrill Gardens. I'm so excited to move my mom to her forever home and to have these wonderful people taking care of her!!

We came during the transition from Ackerly and it was difficult, especially on the business side and I am not completely satisfied on that front. Invoicing and ACH has not matched and caused agitation. Monthly texts for proper communication and documentation has continued until just recently (6months). However, I only have great things to say about the memory care unit and staff. They've been stretched, they've pushed and they have been dwindled. However, the staff continues to be amazing. The managing director, Emily, is fantastic. She's worked double time and double responsibilities since our arrival and always has a smile on her face. Med techs are fantastic, personal attention and communications - throughout our residency. Recent additions of new social activities staff: Michelle and Stefana has been incredible. The two work with residents in groups and independently. They reach out and include family members with texts, emails and photos. They have implemented new practices. It has been amazing. Recently they hosted a surprise birthday party for my mother- serving her favorite things, pizza flowers and decorations. It was amazing. I love the personal attention the staff brings to the unit. Fresh baked goodies, dressing my parents up for occasions- including curling hair and makeup. They truly seem to care. I'm so happy we moved. I'm not always around and when away I am confident my mom and dad are in loving hands.
