Aveda is such a hidden gem -- I only wish I had known about it sooner! I was lucky enough to be a model for a friend who's currently in school here, and it was such a treat. I received a complimentary shampoo and blowout, and it felt like a mini spa day. All of the services are performed by students working toward their licenses, so I recommend coming with some extra time and a little patience -- they're still learning, and that's part of the charm. The salon itself is adorable, buzzing with energy from both students and patrons. The prices are incredibly affordable, making it easy to treat yourself without breaking the bank. When you first walk into Aveda, it's absolutely beautiful--clean, welcoming, and the staff at the front are very helpful. However, my experience changed once I moved past the front area. The students are incredibly sweet and clearly try their best, which I truly appreciate. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in several aspects of the service and overall experience. One of my biggest concerns is that Aveda promotes using vegan, environmentally friendly products, yet the nail polishes available did not seem to reflect that. Many appeared to contain harsh chemicals, and there were very few, if any, clearly vegan options. This felt inconsistent with the brand's mission. On top of that, the polish itself seemed old, thick, and difficult for the students to work with. There were also issues with the setup. The water in the foot tubs never got warm enough, which made the service uncomfortable. While the students were eager to do a good job, it seemed like they lacked sufficient guidance. The instructor did not check the work or step in to assist when needed, which made a noticeable difference in the quality of the service. At one point, my student used the emery board too aggressively, which caused my toe to bleed. I didn't feel that the situation was handled properly or with enough concern. As much as I want to support the students, I feel the lack of support from the teachers and the direction they're providing is not setting them up with the skills they need to succeed in the real world. My student mentioned she is graduating this week, and it was concerning to think this is the level of preparation she's going out into the industry with. Overall, I left feeling disappointed with the final result. For $30, I expected a better outcome, especially since I could achieve similar or better results at home. read more

Well, the instructors failed me again. I came in and asked to get the darkest shade of black like I have gotten previous time. They gave me a lighter shade and didn't tell me until the end. She made me feel small and belittled because I didn't know the exact color formulas previously used on my hair or the professional terms they use. I had long beautiful hair and they cut off half a foot when I said I wanted a trim. literally half a foot. 6 inches. she layered it when I said I DID NOT WANT LAYERS and she didn't give me bangs when that's all I asked for was bangs and a trim. I showed her pictures of what I wanted, so she has no excuse to make my hair look this horrific. I hate her. she's such a joke. i now look like a teenage boy from the eighties. plus, she insulted my hair the whole time! And it took 2 hours! I have been going here for years! I always request a master student. One with more experience. Getting my hair styled here takes a lot more time, because the stylists must consult with the instructor on the floor as the hair cut progresses, getting tips and approval from the instructor before proceeding to the next step. This takes time, but it ensures you will walk out with a great cut! This is not a quick in and out hair appointment be prepared to allow at least twice the time as a regular salon visit, but you get a quality experience with expencive, fabulous, luxurious, heavenly scented products! A haircut and shampoo is $20, and you walk out with wonderful Aveida style. Can't beat that! Do try their wonderful facials, and nail services. They also offer other aesthetic services. read more

I came here once to get a hair cut. J hit really bad traffic on the way there and I called and spoke to the nice lady at the front desk who was very helpful and accommodating, allowing me to push my appointment back in 15 min increments. Once I arrived, I was greeted very warmly and the salon setup itself was gorgeous. Almost forgot I was at a school. I was taken back to the salon chair where I was met with my stylist for the day as well as one of the instructors to go over what I was looking to achieve as well as the pricing. Then the work began... The wash was great, probably my favorite part of getting cut. Once we returned to the seat, she began cutting away. Not too much was taken off but I did have to stand up while she cut my hair because she said my hair was too long lol that was definitely a first. The instructor didn't really come by very often so I assume this student was pretty far into her program. Overall, the cut was pretty good even though when I got home I noticed some pretty uneven cuts. Even with that, the pricing was definitely a deal. They even included a $10 off coupon with a cute little thank you bag. I wouldn't mind coming back to get a haircut. I just recommend that anyone who goes, goes in with an open mind because they are STUDENTS and you can't expect perfection. read more

What a great school! Friendly, professional, and proficient students. I love how you can schedule with a master student who is ready to graduate. Most schools do not offer this scheduling facials were quite relaxing on a heated massage bed and includes the shoulder massage. I love how the haircuts are documented on the mirror as to the clients name, the service and the objective. Sufficient amount of product is used on here which most schools are we locked in to use much product I'm not sure if that is cost driven, but this place does it right! read more

My hair is thick and curly, she took her time and checked in with me every step of the way. The educator was hands on and encouraged Chole through out the service. I would not recommend getting any type of bleach on your hair at Aveda. I had an appointment for highlights and was shocked at my experience. I get that these are students that are practicing, but we should also be treated as real clients and I honestly felt like I was being punished lol. I was here for almost 8 hours after being quoted 2 hours. Bleach was left on one section of my hair for almost 3 hours at one point. The "teachers" never checked in once or stepped in at all after noticing how long I had been there. After finally getting shampooed it took an entire hour for her to blow dry my hair. 2 weeks later I ended up going to a real salon to get the highlights fixed because there were a lot of issues. read more

I have been coming to Aveda for years now. I know the people are in training and I expect it to take time. But this last visit was my worst experience. I had a girl named Kourtney, who was very friendly but not at all confident in what she was doing. It took 5 hours to complete my color and cut. When she styled it at the end it was nothing like what i asked for and i even had a picture to show her. I tried to style it myself and she redid what i did and tried again, still with no success. The supervisor came over and tried to do a quick fix, i felt just to get me out of there. This wont stop me from coming there again. But maybe Kourtney should have mire training before graduating, which she said was soon. read more

I have now gotten 2 facials from the aveda institute in St Johns and both have been absolutely amazing!! This month (march) they are doing a $20.22 facial - sooo worth it! I love how most of their products are plant based and natural for your skin. The facials are always so relaxing. My second facial was with Brooklyn & she was absolutely amazing and I loved how she informed me what was going on my face as the facial progressed.
