I heard about Paul Mitchell's services and found out Wednesdays is $5 for men's haircut so I took advantage. I knew it was a school and I knew it would be a student doing it. What's the worst that could happen? It's only $5 and my hair will grow back in a couple of weeks. Both student and instructor did great. It was the first time the student did a "skin fade," but the instructor was right there every step of the way making sure everything looked uniform. Was it the best haircut I've ever received? No, but everyone has to learn, plus it's only $5! Literally cheaper than a dozen eggs at the moment. I came here with the total understanding that it is a school and these students are working hard and learning. I requested a hair cut that comes with a wash, dry and style. My hair was down to my tailbone when I went in and I did ask to remove any dead hair. I was shown that approximately an inch and a half would be cut. I was totally ok with that. Fortunately, I am not super married to my hair and I've had some pretty drastic cuts in my life lol [[HIGHLIGHT]]the stylist I had was very sweet and gave me a great wash and definitely took her time cutting making sure she was listening to her instructors direction.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything was great, but I did end up with shoulder length hair. Love the fullness and the volume I requested. Overall, I was there for approximately 2-2.5 hours and unfortunately ran out of time and had to rush to leave and pick up my kids so I didn't get a style, just a blow dry. I had been going to Paul Mitchell school for my hair and my kids hair for years and unfortunately ran into someone who wasn't being monitored closely by the teacher. I had asked the instructor to watch her close and she didn't. My hair was over processed and broke off in patches. I had to chop all my hair off. Which was emotionally damaging. When I texted pictures to the instructor there was no response. My experience as a client here was a seriously mixed bag, but the bad heavily outweighs the good. This was also a two day experience since my hair was messed up so bad the first time I went. Day 1 I have an appointment for a haircut, lightening my roots, and a tone. I was there for 5 entire hours! Which I was not expecting, so prepare for that. My stylist was Rayna and I didn't get the name of her learning leader. Rayna cut my hair dry which left it uneven by about 2 inches. Then, the bleaching/lightening process began. They had my bleach on my hair for a total of 3 HOURS! Which I said to them was not normal and I know will cause damage, but was told that it was normal. I was repeatedly told that my hair was strong so it could handle it. That was the first red flag. Then they put toner on my hair to achieve a silvery white but turned my newly bleached roots bright blue!! I was devastated. They admitted it was a mistake and was going to let me leave like that but I said no, I need the blue gone immediately since I graduate from college in 4 days. They then bleached my hair again and offered to apply more toner but I said no since I didn't trust anything else being added to my hair. The learning leader was at fault here and I don't believe Rayna was ready to work on human clients just yet. She was nice, but not knowledgeable enough and didn't stand up for me when she knew it was wrong. I left in tears with soaking wet hair, 20 minutes after they closed. The next day I go back to ask for a refund, which I'm told I can't have, and I'm offered a hair repair service, which I take. I come in at 1 and my stylist is Bailee and her learning leader is Jill. Both Bailee and Jill were amazing! Extremely apologetic (which I never got an apology before) and understanding. Bailee did a beautiful job fixing my haircut and doing the repair service. She was extremely knowledgeable and skilled. Since Bailee was graduating in a month, I got her card and promised I'd visit her once she got a job at a salon since she was so fantastic. If this review was for my experience with Bailee and Jill, it would be five stars. Unfortunately, I won't be back to Paul Mitchell since I have a lack of trust in the staff. Although, I'm very glad to have met Bailee and will be using her as a stylist once she has graduated. Overall, be careful. Do not hesitate to ask questions and ensure you are getting what you want. When I told her she was hurting me she gave me attitude and said she has to put tension on my hair to get it straight. No, you don't...I've had my hair blown out plenty of times and not once was my scalp sore. She also burned my scalp with the hot blow dryer several times. I had to stop her half way through. WARNING!! I do not recommend the Paul Mitchell School to anyone for any reason!! This was my second time getting a basic wash, style, blow dry, and for an extra $5.00 flat iron(I did not ask for half an inch to be cut off of the back of my hair)! The first time I had my "hair styled" at the Paul Mitchell School I was told when I called that they didn't take walk-ins, or do same day appointments, but that I would have to schedule my appointment for the next day if I still wanted to come in. I did as the receptionist suggested and came back the next day at my scheduled time, it took longer then at any regular salon, and I wasn't even getting anything major done, but I still left looking great and only paid $15.00!! If I was basing my review on that visit I would have given them 4 stars, but unfortunately my most recent visit this past Friday...which I'm pretty certain was my last visit was awful! First off I called to see if they could by chance get me in without an appointment, I kept getting transferred from one person to another until they finally asked if I could be there at 2:00pm. Lucky for me I was already at the Town Center finishing up with lunch. So when I got there I see this sign that says that they take walk-ins...(couldn't they have just told me that on the phone?!), anyways I sat down for a minute and then was called back by the student who would be "styling" my hair. She had me sit at her station and explain what kind of problems I was having with my hair. I told her that I just wanted something different without having it chopped of, since it's already kind of short for me bc I had just donated close to 30" of my hair to locks of love this past October. I also specifically told her that I didn't want her to put to much shine serum in my hair bc it can make it look very greasy as apposed to shiny if to much is added. So she took me over to their "wash house" to wash my hair, then brought me back to her chair, and that's when things all started to go down hill! First off she started cutting the back of my hair(ok ok it will grow back), then after she finished blow drying my hair she added all of this sticky product to my hair and started to flat iron it. As soon as she gets done she says to her instructor that my hair is getting all staticky, so they both add a bunch of shine drops and flat iron it again! It looked nice for maybe 30 minutes, when I woke up the next morning I looked like I had stuck my head in a bowl of olive oil!!! Yuck!!! The worst part is that they don't even stand by their own refund policy! All I asked was that they either fix the oil slick of a mess that they call a "hair style", or refund me my $20.00, but they wouldn't do either one. All I can say is I would rather pay $100.00 for a simple wash and style any day, and know that if it's not to my liking the next day that the salon will fix it, then get a crappy bargain and be ripped of with a mess any 5 year old would do for free! read more

I have been to this physicality many times and have never had a issue until now. I had an evening appointment in which a full color and a haircut was to be provided. I had a lovely student, and she was a "tier one" meaning she was not as experienced as the other students. Now mind you, this is a teaching physicality in which licensed professionals shadow the students and guide them. Not in this case. The instructor decided to leave the building for break, and upon her return with her Big Mac, she decided to provide services TO A STUDENT! A complaining student who was upset that her hair needed to be cut and flat ironed before closing. This was happening 2 chairs away, and I was able to hear the entire conversation between the instructor, the student, and other students who had gathered around to participate in the gossip. There was no mentorship going on, but giggles and laughed about their boyfriends. I am now sitting in the chair with wet hair. The young lady had never cut a client who had long hair and was requesting long layers. When I asked her why the instructor wasn't coming over to help her, her reply disgusted me." They only come over when they want to. When they do help you, you need to learn as much as you can because they do what they want". I looked at the small party happening to my left and asked the instructor if she planned on helping this paying client, and a paying student who was trying to learn to become a professional. Needless to say, the instructor was completely in the wrong and had nothing to say. NOW- HERE COMES THE CAVALRY!! A large woman appeared and decided to defend the situation by saying she is a " client specialist " and walks around the floor to observe if the clients are happy. I asked here where she has been since I arrived at 6pm, and it was now 9pm. Ms Kristen Carroll,the client specialist, knew she did not have a solid argument, so she decided to tell me to leave and never come back. So, I gathered my things with my wet hair and asked her for her business card.It seems Ms Carroll is a SALES LEADER and client specialist is now where to be found on her business card. The issue I have is we have 2 LICENSED stylists who have no regard for teaching a student to become a licensed stylist. The attitude that Ms. Carroll had towards me was more than appalling. Unprofessional, degrading and not to mention more than a few OSHA violations. Food at a work station, a unlicensed student struggling for guidance from licensed professional, and most of all observing combs being dropped on the floor and continued to use without being sanitized. The Paul Mitchell School is no longer the lovely place with a respected reputation. I have called the Board of Cosmetology and have filed a formal complaint regarding the OSHA violations, and the disgusting unprofessional behavior of Kristen Carroll. UPDATE: Please stop calling me to discuss my review. I phoned you back and discussed it once. Your attempted to tell me my review was harsh- was the truth and something you don't want to hear. READ WHOLE STORY! Also, let me preface this with THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE STUDENT, it's about THE TEACHER BECKY! I decided that I was going to allow my friend to try and fix my hair, I had this pink color that I expressed was THE GOAL to get out of my hair, and to take off the dead ends. 6 hours of bleaching my hair later, the pink didn't come out, I understood my friend tried and it wasn't her fault in the least. I reminded her the entire time that I appreciate her attempting for me, so we decided the best option was to color over it. This is when her teacher stepped in and said that she was going to mix the color which we decided was going to be a MERLOT color because the existing pink, I didn't understand why she was going to do the mixing, but I went with it because she has the license. We rinse it out, and it is ROSE GOLD! I came in to have the pink REMOVED, so I don't understand why she mixed it the way she did to put a pink back in! I then find out from my friend that she decided she was going to do the cut, which I expressed I was NOT comfortable with because my friend of 3 years knew what I would've wanted, but whatever.. She has a license right? She starts cutting these VERY blocky sections, AND ONE SIDE WAS SHORTER THAN THE OTHER BY A WHOLE INCH! I told my friend my concerns and the teacher came back with a massive attitude. I brushed it off, we put restorative product in, blow dried and she came back to finish the cut (the teacher). By this point it's been 8 hours, she finishes and you just have to see the final product to believe what A TEACHER, BECKY, did to my hair. Also come to find out that the teacher tried to make it seem as if I was unappreciative of my friends time, and another teacher named Ellie, called me a bitch for saying I was upset with the cut and color.. This is a hair school and student do the services but, they all have always done a very good job. I do have super curly hair and so cutting may be a bit tricky for students but, a trim wouldn't be bad or just an angel around my face. I have never left a review for anything in my life but the experience I had at this location definitely warrant a warning for others. Let me preface, I understand that this is a school and teaching is a main priority which I understand and commend but I have never had an experience like this at any other Paul Mitchell School. In the past when I have requested appointments I have asked to be booked with a Phase 2 student. That usually entails that they will do my hair completely and maybe get a little bit of guidance from the teacher and have other students come by and look. This time was COMPLETELY different. The only process that the phase 2 student did by herself was wash my hair. The 2nd half of the process, i.e. blow drying and straightening she included 3 phase 1 students in. I had 4 people touching my hair and doing differing techniques the entire time. It was an extremely uncomfortable and un-enjoyable experience. One girl kept hitting me in the face with the blow dryer and combing my very thick hair with a fine tooth comb which I even know is wrong but the Phase 2 student said nothing. When it came to flat ironing my hair, because there were so much chaos going on they didn't use heat protector on the majority of my hair. When I got my hair cut the teacher came over and did it not the phase 2 student. She was not thorough and I still have split ends. I had to go home and even even out the length because I noticed it was uneven when I got home. Long story short they treated me as though I was one of their tester dolls instead of an actual client. I have gone to Paul Mitchell Schools for years and never have I had this type of experience. I even went to this location a year ago and it was just like my other enjoyable previous experiences. I don't know what happened between now and then or if this is how all Paul Mitchell School locations teach now but I can confidently say I will never go back to one again. It's unfortunate that this location had taint my perception of the entire company but I now have a fear of going back and enduring that treatment again. read more

Visiting Paul Mitchell School and expecting good customer service was a huge mistake. It was a total waste of my time. After arriving I was seated fairly quickly in a chair and met with the stylist who would be helping me. (A very sweet young woman who was a student and had absolutely no participation in their business procedures). After that EVERYTHING went downhill. I sat in the chair for at least 30 minutes waiting on a person who apparently is a student supervisor to wander over to talk to me. I don't know why this was necessary but nonetheless it was frustrating to wait for this amount of time. When this alleged supervisor (heavy set blonde woman) came over finally she went into some SMOKE AND MIRROR SALES TATIC that I would need to come back 3 times for unwanted and unnecessary deep conditioning before they would perform the requested service. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THEIR STRONG ARM RECOMMENDATIONS AND TATICS you are CEREMONIOUSLY DISMISSED without any service being performed. By the time they got through with all their "special" treatments I could have gone to a reputable well known salon and paid the same amount of money. Be careful if you decide to give these people a chance and know up front they will provide zero customer service especially if you refuse to participate in their SCAM. read more

I am a future professional at this school and I have to say I am impressed with how hands on everything is. You jump right in the very first week using your doll head and learning basic hairstyles. They have an honors program and a Dean's list which are great resume builders. It is quite expensive to go here but I feel like it will all pay off since they not only teach you about hair but about how to run your business and set yourself apart from other hairstylists. I have seen some really great work done for our guests and can't wait to be on the floor myself, making people smile! read more

This is a tough one. You have to realize going into the salon you are going to have your hair cut by students and there is always a possibility that something can and in my case will go wrong. They state they are supervised, but don't let that fool you. It isn't constant supervision and even at the Phase 2 level these are students with no real experience. That being said, even though I thought we were crystal clear on the amount of hair we were going to cut and instructions from the supervisor, I ended up with way too much hair cut off and I didn't realize until it was too late. The supervisor tried to correct what had already gone wrong but once your hair has been cut, it's cut. Can't glue it back on! Well I guess you can these day LOL. No choice but to continue with the cut at that rate. The color job was mediocre at best. What can I say other than I tried it..hair will grow back and color can be redone. I won't be returning and just say that you get what you pay for. It's a school and no matter what stage they are in, they are applying techniques they are learning in class on your hair. I came with a positive attitude and tons of patience knowing that this is a school and that a student would be working my hair. However, the student I got was really not ready to work with clients. It seemed like it was her first time seeing hair. She didn't even know how to properly wash or brush it. She forgot to use conditioner after wash and almost pulled a chunk of my hair out when trying to brush it. When I asked to please use some kind of leave-in conditioner, she first could not find it, and then went back to the wash room and got regular rinse-off conditioner (!) and put it on my hair. She would have just left it there unless her supervisor came by and asked what the hell was in my hair. In short, I spent two hours (not exaggerating) there and we didn't even get to hair coloring that I came there for. I asked to just dry my hair and please let me go before she ruins it. After looking around I noticed there were many students like this that had no idea what they were doing. PLEASE PREPARE YOUR STUDENTS BETTER BEFORE THEY START WORKING WITH CLIENTS. Regarding the place itself, it looked quite chaotic, hair and dust everywhere. Things like shampoo, conditioner, and towels were missing, so students had to run around and look for them. Very crowded, too many people for such small space. I rarely leave negative reviews as I believe in second chances. However, I do believe that Paul Mitchell School in Jax needs to be revamped completely before they start providing good service. read more

They ruined my hair! I asked for blond highlights, and it ended up a brassy orange color. They would not give me a refund. I would avoid this place at all costs!! Very bad experience all the way around. read more
