We called about a week in advance to schedule a haircut appointment. Chloe did a great job washing, cutting, and styling my child's hair. The place was busy but had a relaxed, chill vibe. Before starting, a supervisor came out to confirm consent and review the estimated cost, which I appreciated. There is also a survey to fill out after the services are performed. Optional: Bring cash to tip or ask the student for their venmo to tip. I had hoped to get my hair cut at the same time, but since parents need to remain onsite with a minor (and can't receive services themselves), I'll just plan to come back another time. read more

a Aveda prior I tried three times of giving them my business. Mind you yes it . However, they do not cater to African-American hair. I did not feel comfortable there each time I I fell I shouldn't have showed up that's the atmosphere. This is my opinion as a customer there. The school instruct.or at the time did not even give professional advice to the student. As a matter of fact, he was very rude to the student when she asked for advice. Again, did not have a good experience as a customer with African-American hair. This is Aveda school in Phoenix, I had no problems in Atlanta or Cincinnati. Shame on the Phoenix school. read more

I already had a very nicely grown out balayage that I've been doing for years and this all went out the window when I trusted Aveda Institute. If they royally screw over your hair too, just get the refund and don't let them try fixing it. Please! It's been 3 years now but I'm still suffering with the atrocious botched dye job Kayla did with my hair - and the absolute and utter worthless "instructor" that is Terri. Apparently I was Kayla's first balayage but no one told me. It was an evening appointment and NO ONE came to check on her to realize she was adding foils bleach to every. single. layer. on my head. Then had to rush the other side bc it was getting late (she's brand new and was of course moving slower) We go over to tone and Terri wouldn't let me tone long enough bc they were closing. So not only do I have a very clear straight line between my natural dark hair (thing perfectly grown out 6 month roots), but now it's still orange bc I'm not done processing, AND I leave with a wet head in December. When I went home to blow dry I was in tears. Heart broken. Furious. Kayla even sent me voice messages realizing her technique error and offered for me to come to her house to get it fixed. I was not comfortable with that bc she clearly needed more guidance. I did go back to the salon to give her the chance to fix it (it is a learning institution after all). I was there for no less than 12 hours. She did a good enough job to make it normal again but no where near acceptable in the long run when I can STILL see the botched job she did almost 3 years later. To top it off, they added Demi permanent low lights, then another "teacher" came up and started doing permanent so that was another area they weren't aligned. After all this, they again toned and washed my hair then wanted me to leave with a wet head!! Still December late at night - NO WAY! A new teacher came to help and curled my hair too to try making it right. Please please be cautious going here. I should add, a couple weeks prior to my balayage appt with Kayla I had a cut with her (also her first customer cut that she told me after). During this simple cut she did go get help which is great, but each time one of the teachers had conflicting strategies and said "no, you need to do it this way". As a customer that is unsettling and embarrassing. As a student learning I'm sure that's very confusing. HORRIBLE TEACHING METHODS WITH NO REGARD TO CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. As I was leaving that night I heard Terri badmouthing another client while scolding another employee. Truly disgusting behavior . If I could give no stars I would. Finally, Kayla was a student, I get that. But she needed a whole Helluva lot more guidance. read more

There has only been two times in the last few years that I have only given a $20 cash tip. One was three years ago about, and one was today. It was the worst experience I have had in a long time with my hair color. I felt hurried and rushed and unwanted. The girl complained about her feet hurting in her boots with heels, that she was wearing. I just wanted to leave, but I needed my hair color done. So I just gave her a $20 cash tip. And actually I should not have given her even $20 tip. Like I said, usually it's five stars from me all the way. But absolutely not today! And I miss Celie not being there! read more

My stylist Nina did an amazing job on my haircut today!! She was super welcoming, and gentle with the shampoo and hairbrushing. She ate with the face framing, I would've tipped her more if they had offered a tip function on their machines. This salon is cashless, card only so I assumed I could add! :( please tip your stylists, I was a student myself in the cosmo field, and theres nothing more satisfying than getting a nice tip to boost confidence. This school is not worth 1/2 of what they charge. They have the most incompetent staff who cannot run the school well enough to keep their staff or supplies stocked. They have a superiority complex , will not treat students with respect or provide an adequate education to build confidence in their students. My daughter is a former student who was " suspended" after she was attacked by a student who was probably hung over , drunk or on drugs. When my daughter defended herself they said no violence tolerated, what is unfortunate is that there was no teacher in the room at the time of the incident I would've been able to stop this bully from attacking my daughter. My daughter found herself in a position where she had to defend herself and boy did she defend herself, giving this other girl a black and blue face . She was not the aggressor or did she even approach the other student but she could not just be attacked and be victimized . I once came to have services performed and the teacher that was " filling in " said she would slice her wrist if she had to work there permanently because they don't have adequate supplies and the program was unorganized it was unfortunate that my daughter was not able to finish her cosmetology degree that she had wanted for so long, I post so people do their research ask questions, don't let these snobs think you need them more than they need you. read more

I came in the day before my cruise for a facial. I was greeted by Haley. She was so kind, and she was so attentive in answering all of my questions. I want to say that this was one of the best facials I have ever had, she was so good at removing my blackheads and I was so grateful her and the instructor removed my Milia. Wanted to try a haircut from here as my barber raised his prices. It was $20 flat for a haircut for me as a male. You schedule an appointment over the phone, and they'll text you to confirm etc. There are cancellation fees and stuff so be wary of that. After I checked in, I just sat in the lobby until my stylist came out. I had Eva who was a student for about 6 months, and she was nice. Obviously still learning but AVEDA has professionals that help them on the spot. There were certain parts of the haircut she had to get help. I will say if you're trying to get in and out, it will take a while. My haircut along with the included shampooing took about an hour and a half. I tipped her $10 because students don't make money on the haircuts, and she definitely was trying. Environment and everything was nice I just feel like I'd be more apt to go spend the extra $10 somewhere else and get in and out and get an overall better haircut. read more

Be careful they aren't trustworthy! I signed a contract for class and paid half the tuition because I was told that I could leave early 15-20 mins to get my son from school. After starting the first day of class I was told that I couldn't and I needed to figure it out. I could not figure it out, especially that fast. I attended two days of school and after was pulled into the office to "help" figure it out. I also have proof that all this happened because of my text messages in my phone. I come to find out that they put $3045 on my credit report. They are the ones who lied, not sure how I broke the contract. Just be aware. I'll start off with the bad and end with the good. My appointment got messed up and the ladies at the front had an attitude with me about it. It was the place's fault not mine, but yet they would rather sit there and argue with you about it instead of going to the person you have the appointment with and asking them. The same thing happened with my mom and for it to happen twice, I feel like it's definitely a them problem. Overall, the reason I went was for a facial and it was amazing! To be honest, if I could leave no stars I would. I was a regular Aveda salon and school goer before this but I will not be back. I went in for a "glossing" treatment (toner). My hair was fairly complicated and instead of telling me they couldn't do it, they said I could reschedule a partial highlight and decided to do a strand test. Afterward, the end of my hair turned green. TWO DIFFERENT TEACHERS came to look at it and literally walked away. One just said "No" and left. So then I'm like, "So you're going to send me out w a green strand of hair?" Now I'm talking to just the student (who was so so sweet by the way and not the problem at all) because the "educators" abandoned us. She said she could put a brown dye over my hair but I just wanted to get out of there at that point. I was cordial throughout my visit, even though I was very frustrated. I let the student know that it was not her fault and that she was a gem. This was one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. Aveda lost a customer today. Save your time and money for an actual salon. These women treated me as if I wasn't worth their time. Good riddance; I will never be back. read more

MAILEY HUNTER ...I think you were a 5 star hair dresser before you started at Aveda Beauty school! I think you were born with this MAGNIFICENT TALENT! YOU ARE TRULY AMAZING!! I think it became very obvious to everyone in the studio just how special you are. My sisters and I come in once a month for body wraps and facials. I have also had my hair washed and styled here but had not colored my hair at Aveda. I am super picky and have always went to very expensive hair salons. We have lived all of the country and I have been thru many hair dressers. Two years ago we moved to AZ and I flew back to KC to get my hair done (also to see family) bc I had not found THE ONE...until Mailey!! I secretly asked all around the Aveda spa students, front desk, and to the supervisors. I told them I was very picky and hesitant. EVERY SINGLE PERSON SAID Go to MAILEY!!!! Everyone said the same name but gave me different examples as to why. One of the supervisors/teachers said she was phenomenal and that she sent her own family to her right in the beginning. I, too went to a Mailey right in the beginning bc of everyone's strong feelings and confidence in her! OMGOSH!!! I was blown away. I was beside myself with happiness. Usually no one at home really notices my hair and everyone did. After seeing my hair, my sister booked Mailey's next available and then booked her next to last appointment before she graduated. Of course, I did the same but get to go to her on her very last day. AFTER THAT I AM GOING TO FOLLOW HER TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH! She truly gave me the BEST FOIL and CUT I HAVE EVER HAD! It was beautiful and flowed so naturally. She also gave me a little neck massage with oil before she started and gives THE BEST SHAMPOO HEAD MASSAGES EVER! I DID NOT WANT THE DAY TO END! She spent so much time with me making my hair perfect yet she worked super fast. She truly has a gift and is a natural. I remember one of the teachers telling me that about 30% of the students come in with natural talent, about 60% can be taught and the other 10% might never get it. I think Mailey surpassed everyone and truly probably could have been a teacher on her first day. Mailey LOVES doing hair and that's why she is so good at it. She has the best personality and is such an old soul beaming with so many talents. I am so blessed to have met her but unfortunately she has set the bar even higher than before. I know you are an amazing student bc I watched you on the 4 occasions you did my hair listening and learning from instructors. You were soaking in everything. This is the second time I've come to this salon, and I must say, it is one of the best switches I've made for both being fantastic in service and budget-friendly! The 1st visit (beginning of September 2020): I wanted to do both a cut (bob) and full-highlight/color, and with a specific stylist/A-lister I had found on instagram. They were able to book out part of the afternoon but not the entire time slot, so they arranged for some of my services to be taken care of by another stylist so that I could get it all done in one visit. John Wayne (sp?) was the teacher/master there, and I worked with Janet and Megan. John was super supportive and even demonstrated how to get the Vidal Sassoon shape, and Janet was super warm and focused on getting my hair back into shape. Megan was amazing with adding a ton of babylights and dimension! Both are no longer there, but working with them set the tone for what continues to be high-quality service. (Overall cost: $75. I was also able to snag product for 25-30% off! This same job else- at certain salons in Scottsdale- have put me back $200-$300.) Savannah J. was amazing! Super friendly and warm, she really took the time to listen and take a look at my inspiration pics and come up with a plan together, and executed it! She gave me the light and bright, a-line bob I was hoping for! She worked quickly with the foils and was super detail-oriented (making sure to get pieces in the back based on how they would layer with the cut, all around my crown, and even my baby hairs), balayaged certain pieces not within the foils, and was precise with the toner to get the champagne color I wanted. When doing the cut, she did both a wet- and dry-cut to get the exact shape and layers I wanted, and used both a straight scissor and razor to add more movement in the back. All of this within 4.5 hours! She works quickly and efficiently but with a major eye for detail. Also of note: the teacher/master there was Meko (sp?), and she was equally supportive and professional. I was so, so, so happy with the outcome. This was more in alignment with what I had been going for! (Overall cost: $75.) I really, really lucked out with Savannah J.! - You can look at different stylist's instagrams to see some of their work, but also don't hesitate to ask the receptionists when booking if there is a certain look you are going for so they can try to match you to people's strengths. read more

I have been a regular visitor at the Aveda Institute in Tempe and so far I have never had any complaints. After getting a balayage twice, overall haircolor and several haircuts from Aveda, I can only say I have gotten excellent service which makes me come back here over and over again! All the instructors are really nice and have only great suggestions for you. The only drawback with this place is that you will need more than average time for a haircut as the haircuts are done by students which is further supervised for better results. The prices are really reasonable, so its totally worth every penny spent. Also, they sell all the products used on your hair. And Aveda products are amazing, I am hooked! I got my first facial at Aveda recently and wow was I impressed!! Lauren cook gave me the best hydration facial I've ever had! I have been getting facials done regularly for years, and the facial Lauren gave me was the best one yet. She took her time and explained all the products while even throwing in little facts I had no idea about before our visit. For a current student she knew so much! I left Aveda feeling not only feeling hydrated and soft, but also more glowing and trusting. My skin is still in the best shape it's ever been in and I haven't had a break out since! I've never had such a great time getting my hair done! Everyone was upbeat, friendly, and attentive. My stylist Yuki listened carefully to my instructions and took great care to meet my expectations. Part of the experience includes an upper shoulder/neck rub with your choice of botanical massage oil, which was unexpected and awesome. The Aveda line of products are all-natural, plant based, and never tested on animals, so you can feel good about every purchase. When I went to check out, I couldn't believe how little they expected in return for this two-hour vacation, and I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised as well.
