The fact that Delaware has its own airport is wild! They only fly certain days and flights are limited but they are low cost and easy! Parking was a simple and there were multiple lots available for under $15 a day. Checking a bag was easy and there was not line. The actually terminal waiting area was small and didn't fit everyone but it seems to be under construction for a bigger/new terminal. Wonder how this will look come winter! My family and I have traveled with Avelo Airlines many times, and it has not been bad, but this last time was just horrible. We had a bad snowstorm at our home airport, so we thought the flight would be canceled. However, there was a lot of miscommunication within the airline and among the passengers. They did not send us emails saying the flight would be truly delayed until the day of our flight. Which would have been fine, but then they would not let us check our bags when we got to the airport. So we were stuck on the outside of TSA, with little seats, and resorting to lying on the floor. While other staff were using wheelchairs and cleaning machines as seats. The staff was not very helpful when asked for any information about the flight or whether it would be cancelled, or even if it was up in the air. Our flight was supposed to take off at 7:30 pm and was then rescheduled to 12:30 am. And with the little information we had already dropped off our rental car and had no other way out of the airport other than an Uber, but it was night, and with nowhere to go, we were stuck. I completely understand that with the weather, take off is definitely having its own problems; however, the miscommunication we had to spend over 7 hours in an airport. Yes, they said we could cancel our flights, but by the time they sent that email, we had already arrived at the airport. Plus they said you had to call the airline, you could not change in side the airport. And even if you could they wouldn't. This airline has a horrible way of telling people what is truly happening with the flights. If they simply could have told us to delay out of the gate, or even said that it would have little chance of getting a plane up in the weather, this whole review would not have been left. So if you know you have an airport in winter or summer storm areas, DO NOT fly with them. read more

I have been using Avelo from Wilmington Delaware airport since it began flying from there. Flying 2 or 3 times a year to either Florida (Fort Myers, Tampa and Orlando) and Puerto Rico. Unfortunately you decided to contract with an administration bent on shredding our Constitution and ignore the rule of law and its courts. I will be taking my business somewhere else going forward. Maybe even driving to the U.S. destinations. Puerto Rico has enough of other airlines available. read more

Wilmington (ILG) is a small airport; no lines, long walks, shuttle buses, escalators, etc. Plane arrived 45 mins late from PBI due to a disabled aircraft closing runways at PBI, so delay was not Avelo's fault. When the jet did arrive, they used front and back aircraft doors to more quickly unload and get the airplane turned as quickly as possible for our departure to Ft Myers (RSW). We had a full plane, but it was a nice flight down with good weather, no bumps, and arrived RSW still late, but without any hassles. Return flight arrived RSW from ILG early so we were able to load and push back ahead of schedule with a few empty seats on this leg. Again we had good weather, smooth ride and no hassles. We arrived early, made the short walk to the car and quickly headed home, super fast and easy! This is a small airline serving a small airport in a niche market, so when you read the bad reviews, understand that there are limitations like the number of aircraft and number of crew members to fly them... our outbound flight was delayed a bit, but we didn't have to arrive at the airport 2 hours early either. Return flight ran well ahead of schedule, so we came out even! Final item: Our tickets were less than half the cost of Southwest flying from a large and crowded airport. I didn't want to jeopardize my A-list Preferred status by not taking SWA, but the money and time savings were definitely worthwhile. 5 stars for our flights on Avelo! read more

If I could rate a negative star(s) I would. This is the most difficult airline I have ever encountered. I booked two flights - an outbound and a return. I included the $14 cancellation "insurance" fee. My plans did change - so I cancelled my flights online (if you call Cusotmer Service it's a $25 per flight fee!) - and then learned that instead of refunding my credit card - they applied a credit to my account, good for a year. This is my first and last experience with this shoddy outfit. I did call customer service and while they HAVE the ability to issue a credit card credit - they have no WILL to do so. To get a CC refund it must be within 24 hours and at least 7 days before the flight - otherwise it is a credit on account. I had misgivings from the start - that were only exacerbated as the experience with this outfit continued. My advice - fly a reputable, established airline and avoid the "economical" ones that are not at all. You can book a cheap flight - but then there is a seat fee, a carry-on luggage fee, etc. - both coming and going so that a $98 fare ends up being $242. Not worth the hassle, aggravation and inconvenience. Fly Avelo at your own risk - or better yet - avoid entirely! read more

Scam artists. Booked a flight from DE to SC a return SC to DE, had everything scheduled and time off approved. They canceled the flight to SC "to accommodate changes in [their] schedule elsewhere in [their] network", which means I don't need a flight back... They will not refund the cancellation of the return flight to DE but give me airline credit, that I will be unable to use before it's expiration. I will be staying far away from Avelo and will be telling everyone. read more

We were just about to board our flight from Las Vegas to Santa Rosa on Sunday. Right when we were boarding, we were all told to sit down and they brought over a "larger" group of people from a different gate and gave them our plane! They said their plane broke down so we had to find somewhere to stay the night and they would have a plane for us the next morning at 7am. Not only did they give our plane to a different group right in front of us, they did not have a plane for us the next morning. They also aren't reimbursing us for our hotel feels from the night we were stranded because we had to change airlines to actually get home. They are HORRIBLE and nobody should use them. read more

Booked Avelo Airlines for a trip to Orlando last year. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were forced to cancel our vacation. When I requested a refund they refused to refund the amount back to my credit card, instead issued me Travel Funds. 13 months later I was booking a flight for a vacation and intended to use those Travel Funds only to learn that they expired after 1 year. Literally tried using them 1 year and 1 month and they refuse to let me use the money I paid them for a flight. Avelo basically stole almost $900 from me. I've never heard of a refund expiring. And everyone we spoke to at Avelo was extremely unhelpful and rude. read more

We flew out of Wilmington, DE to Fort Lauderdale. Flight out from Wilmington was great with no issue and had a great vacation. Returning home was a completely different store. We arrived at FLL around 7:45 am for a flight originally scheduled to depart at 10am on 6/22/23 traveling with 2 adults and 3 children. Multiple notifications were sent throughout the day with the last one saying the flight was delayed until 12:00 am on 06/23/23. We waited all day, then at 7:00 pm, the airline canceled the flight. No airline personnel present throughout the day whatsoever. There was no assistance in finding another option out. Customer service was called and offered to rebook us 3 days later, which was absolutely appalling. We purchased tickets on another airline for 6/23/23 which were $1505. We also spent a few hundred dollars in the airport waiting for 11 hours in the airport. Be careful if you use this airline because they will leave you stranded if any issues arise. it cost me $1500 and 2 days to learn this. Our flight was scheduled to depart on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 8:00AM. We were on the plane from 7:20AM until 12:30PM. During this time there were a series of errors that took place. The truck to de-ice the plane ran out of fluid. They called for a second truck, who would have to start over again and he also ran out of fluid. Then we were told that were sending two trucks to complete the de-icing process at the same time...that never happened. At 11:15AM we returned to the gate and were offered the opportunity to deplane. However, this meant that we would give up our seats on the flight and could not get back on. We decided to stay on and hope for the best. At 12:07PM, we were notified via text message that the flight was delayed until the following morning. We were still not permitted to deplane until 12:30. During this entire time, communication was very limited and the flight attendants became rather hostile. This delay was not due to weather - at the scheduled departure time of 8:00AM, it was snowing very lightly and there was barely anything on the ground. I will also mention that another flight scheduled for 11:00AM to Orlando Florida was able to take off shortly after our flight was cancelled This delay caused us to miss a full day of our planned trip, re-book with American Airlines out of Philadelphia, drive to the Philadelphia airport in less than ideal conditions by time we were permitted to leave, and pay $400 more for the flight. I was able to obtain a refund for the flights, but no additional consideration was offered to make up for a terrible experience. This was our first time using this airline and airport, which we hoped would be a great option, but that is not the case. Travelers - Stick with the more established airlines who know what they are doing. read more

Used Avelo for the first time, travel from fortmyers to williminton Delaware, we were charged $65 to check in out luggage, my wife my daughter of 9 arrive to Wilmington Delaware and our ligga was never loaded on the plane from fortmyers, it's a holiday weekend I can't get a hold of nobody at the airport, they ask me to email avelo and wait for there response. All afternoon I just got the run around and no luggage or update. We are here with no clothes, we have to purchase new clothes and belongings we need on an everyday needs. As someone who does not enjoy flying, Avelo Airlines was a good experience for me. I was worried about being on a "cheaper flight" but everything seemed similar compared to a non-discount airline. The customer service of the flight attendants was great! They were very personable, friendly, and helpful and made me feel more at ease at 31,000 feet in the sky. The only downside was that there is no offer on food or drink on the plane, but it wasn't a huge deal for a short flight. The only other negative comment was that the plane was overbooked, so 3 passengers had to opt out of their ticket. Overall, Avelo was a good experience and I would fly with them again! read more

I am super disappointed with their refund/travel funds policy. I booked a flight for spring break for my family of 4. I had to cancel it, and did so more than a month in advance of the trip. Because I didn't cancel in the first 24 hours, they issued travel funds instead of a refund. If that wasn't disappointing enough, the travel funds come with a disclosure that the funds must be used within 1 year and only toward tickets for the person to whom the funds were issued... so I have almost $2,500 in travel funds (from 4 peoples tickets) that I am supposed to use only for myself within the next year. That's ludicrous. I know the flight we were supposed to take is fully booked, it's still 2 weeks away. They resold my seats... why can't I have a refund? Or at the very least be able to utilize the funds on tickets for my whole family! (The funds only being available to the funds holder is disclosed NOWHERE in their policy, until you receive said travel funds) Basically, it seems I just gave them $2,500. read more

Left Wilmington airport and flew to Tampa. It was so much easier than leaving from Philly. The only problem was we had to sit on the runway for an extra 45 minutes due to air traffic and it got hot on the plane before taking off since they shut the engines off to save fuel. The flight was wonderful. Flying back from Tampa was a bit delayed but the time was made up so basically I would definitely fly Avelo again and definitely leave from Wilmington, DE. read more

Recently flew Avelo from Wilmington, Delaware to Wilmington, NC. When booking my tickets I paid for one checked bag each way. I checked my suitcase at the airport in Wilmington, DE and nothing was said. When returning home, I checked my bag at Wilmington, NC and was told they needed my credit card and I would be charged $65. With little time to argue before my flight departure, I provided a card. When I returned home, I contacted the customer service (via email) to dispute the charge. I also checked my Visa on line and found I was charged an additional $60 in Wilmington, Delaware as well without being told. Essentially double billed for baggage each way. They finally conceded to refund one of the double billings ($60). BEWARE OF WHAT THEY ADD TO YOUR CREDIT CARD! read more
