My primary dentist referred me to Dr. Timothy Gainey for 2 root canals. The minute I nervously walked in the door, I was greeted by a friendly human (Laurie). :) My consultation went smoothly, and my procedures were done with the utmost professionalism, care and with a bit of humor thrown in. Dr. Gainey and his team even stayed late to finish both of my root canals and get me out of pain. I cannot say enough positive things about this entire experience. Dr. Nencka had X-rays done, then did cold and percussion testing to determine which tooth was causing the problem. (My dentist wasn't able to determine which of three molars was causing the pain, but felt I probably needed a root canal.) He seemed to easily determine which tooth was the problem, one with a crown, and numbed that side of my mouth. Explaining as he went along, a device was added to keep my mouth open while he worked. I had no pain in my tooth from the procedure, only dull pain from keeping my jaw open so long, probably due to my TMJ problems. Finally the toothache and associated headache is gone after a fairly quick procedure! I remember my dentist performing a root canal on a tooth close to 55 years ago: Dental science, as we all know, and like anything technology based, has changed for the better in procedures like this! So much better!!

He uses helpful visual aids and computer-generated graphics that show exactly what happens during the procedure. No other dentist has ever explained a procedure in such detail and made sure I understood exactly what to expect. Dr. Moyer also gave me updates during the procedure so I knew how much was completed as well as his next procedural steps. He was very conscientious and ensured I did not experience any pain during the procedure. Dr. Plecas heard I was standing in a wedding the following week and nervous about swelling. He called their other locations to see if anyone could assist Monday but then instead made time same day in between patients to get the tooth pulled. So beyond grateful to everyone who helped get this done today. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, I truly am amazed they made it work for me.

It's a hard sell for TMJ services with every appointment. Cost for TMJ services: Assessment $650 and treatment $5400-6500 (services weren't clarified) with payment required upfront. He says he uses a third-party to maximize insurance payout and after that is received, he would refund anything that insurance covers. When I asked what patients do when they can't afford this treatment, he became defensive and explained that he couldn't provide services for free (which I wouldn't expect). I found a local (TMJ & Orofacial Pain Treatment Center) doctor who is excellent, fitted me with a night guard for under $200, and that has very clear patient costs for services after insurance, and charges much less overall.
