Dr. Nencka had X-rays done, then did cold and percussion testing to determine which tooth was causing the problem. (My dentist wasn't able to determine which of three molars was causing the pain, but felt I probably needed a root canal.) He seemed to easily determine which tooth was the problem, one with a crown, and numbed that side of my mouth. Explaining as he went along, a device was added to keep my mouth open while he worked. I had no pain in my tooth from the procedure, only dull pain from keeping my jaw open so long, probably due to my TMJ problems. Finally the toothache and associated headache is gone after a fairly quick procedure! I remember my dentist performing a root canal on a tooth close to 55 years ago: Dental science, as we all know, and like anything technology based, has changed for the better in procedures like this! The dental assist was skilled, very kind and gentle. Dr Sharma was one of the nicest people I have dealt with in a long time. Very knowledgeable, humble, incredible bedside manner. Although he could have recommended, and I really wanted, a redo of the root canal performed by a general dentist many years ago, Dr Sharma was very firm, polite and apologetic that a redo would almost certainly fail, clearly gave the reasons why, explained his reasoning thoroughly using CT and plain xray images. He then arranged for oral surgery consult in my region. I traveled over 100 mikes to see him and it was well worth the trip. I most highly recommend Dr Sharma.

I was told that if I didn't want to do the paperwork until the day of my appointment I'd need to arrive 30 minutes before my scheduled time. My appointment was at 7:30am which is the time the office opens so I'm not sure how that would have all worked out. In the end, doing the required paperwork in advance is for the patient's benefit and it's always nice to know cost up front for anything dental (at least I think so). As for the appointment, I have to say I was genuinely impressed with the office. It's an up-to-date facility in an unassuming office building. I was greeted by a calming waterfall when the elevator doors opened, a friendly receptionist offered me water and the bathroom even had essential oil spray. Oh and there was an aquarium in the waiting room! The equipment used for scans was all very clean and felt state of the art. I saw Dr. Zielinski. I found him to be knowledgeable and straight forward. I will say he talks a lot so if you see him be sure to ask your questions and even ask him to clarify terms if you need to. He was very helpful and answered all my questions and I never felt rushed which is important to me. In the end I don't need work done here but if I did I would feel comfortable moving forward.

I recently completed a tooth implant process that took several months (remove 40-year old crown, bone graft, wait for that to heal, implant post, wait for that to heal, implant!). The whole process was about as painless as it could possibly be. One of the things I like best about Elmbrook Family Dental is that they explain things clearly -- throughout the process Dr. Plecas explained each step, what the options were, what he thought the best option would be, and why. Knowing about the bone graft was especially important to me, and seeing what the part of the implant would be and how it all went together was cool. I was initially concerned because my son's wedding was coming up, and I didn't want to have a big hole in my mouth for pictures. Dr. Plecas discussed options with me -- the full process wouldn't be complete before the wedding. If I wanted, we could have gotten a temporary fake tooth there, but he thought I should wait and see how it looked. Once the tooth was removed I found that the space wasn't very noticeable at all. I'm very glad that I didn't spend the extra money on a temporary tooth! It feels like we know everyone there - we've been there for years, and at times we had six family members going. My older kids only stopped going there when they totally left the area; while they were in college out of state they still went to Elmbrook Family Dental, scheduling appointments around their breaks. One of the other things I like about Elmbrook Family Dental is that they keep up with processes, technology, and materials.

When I asked what patients do when they can't afford this treatment, he became defensive and explained that he couldn't provide services for free (which I wouldn't expect). I found a local (TMJ & Orofacial Pain Treatment Center) doctor who is excellent, fitted me with a night guard for under $200, and that has very clear patient costs for services after insurance, and charges much less overall.

I received a call that they are charging my account $50 for a "no show" and that they will no longer provide care to me... Over ONE late appointment! I asked if I'd ever signed a document acknowledging the $50 policy and was told that I hadn't and that the new policy went into effect about a year ago. They are sending a final bill and refuse to provide my medical records to another office until the balance is paid. This doesn't seem legal yet alone I'm shocked that this is how they treat their patients. I'm just at a loss for words and respect for this practice and the new doctors that are running it into the ground. The previous doctor was incredible and so kind. This is so unfortunate. With my most recent issue it began to hurt chewing and my OG dentist labeled it a 'problem tooth' and had me come in for X-rays and an exam where it revealed the 'problem tooth' was infected and would either need extraction or root canal retreatment. Since it was a problem, he leaned me towards extraction. However, my gut kept telling me to dig a little deeper and seek an alternative opinion. I took a weekend and researched root canals and retreatments. I came to find out that Endodontists exists and that a significantly high percentage (roughly 80%) of root canals fail when conducted by general dentists (your every day dentist)! In fact, up to 98% of root canals done by specialists (endodontists) succeed! Read those again (and google it yourself). These stats, paired with my gut feeling of a second opinion led me to research endodontists that were both highly rated online and within my insurance's network of care. This led me to Access Endodontics in Brookfield. Calling to make an initial connection was a breeze and the staff was very helpful. They would connect with my insurance and my current dentist to gain a referral and necessary pre-steps. They called me back a couple days later and we set up an in-person evaluation, which was a breeze. I saw Dr. Stover and immediately felt at ease. Her bedside manner was top notch and, paired with her Knowledge and expertise, left me feeling calm and confident in my decision to try retreatment. I also felt connected to her opinion and agreed that it was worth trying retreatment so as not to wonder 'what if'. Flash forward to the retreatment appointment and, while I was feeling nervous, her calmness and thorough yet empathetic approach made for a night and day experience from my initial root canal. Additionally, it was during my retreatment appointment with her that I learned the Dr found 2.5 MORE ROOTS that were completely MISSED the first time!! Of course this tooth was a 'problem' because it hadn't been properly treated the first time. Can you believe it?! Again, so glad I tried. If the options are to try again or pull the tooth, I'm trying again and gee am I glad I did. The procedure was straightforward and didn't last the entire time slot they designated for me. I listened to music in my earbuds the whole time and have since had a follow up to check its progress. It is healing nicely and the root canal seems very successful. I only wish I knew of and had gone the endodontist route the first time around! Both Drs at this location are great and I highly recommend.

My Dentist thought that since the pain was so intense that I was awakened at night and I had a root canal done in the tooth that I felt was hurting, I should go directly to an endodontist. My Dentist referred me to Access Endodontists. I called Access Endodontists on 11/15/2024 and explained that my dentist referred me to them and that I was not sure which tooth was the issue as the pain seemed to move as it intensified. I was assured they could diagnose my issue. My insurance information was requested and given. Later someone called me and explained my covereage was maxed out. I asked how much the evaluation would cost if I paid cash and was told around $238.00. I agreed to the amount and was scheduled for an appointment 11/19/2024. I had a very missable 4 days but survived by alternating Tylenol with Ibuprofen. When I arrived on 1/19/2024 I was given forms to fill out. After filling out all the forms and while sitting in an examining chair, I explained my situation to the person who was helping me. The person helping me told me they could not evaluate my situation because I did not have a referral. I explained over and over that I did have a referral. They said they tried to contact my dentist but were unable to. I drove to my dentists office while in severe pain and asked what was going on. After some back and forth Access Endodontics told my dentist's office they require the dentist to evaluate the situation before sending them to Access Endodontics. This policy was news to my dentist. I made an oral contract with Access Endodontics and agreed to pay them money, then was refused treatment and left in intense pain. No alternative action was presented.
