We stayed in the cottage for the weekend. It was so charming, cozy & welcoming. We're definitely looking to come back!

The Monticello Opera House - Monticello Opera House, drone photo

    The Monticello Opera House

Who knew there was life this side of the state?…read more Passed by the Monticello Opera House last weekend. Got to see their murder mystery show, The Altos Hit Broadway. Apparently the Monticello Opera House hosts various shows throughout the season, including a murder mystery show each year. I just happened to catch the last showing of it. Typically these shows include dinner as well, so it's essentially dinner theater. Don't ask me about price as I was invited, but the dinner included bread, salad, a chicken with pasta dinner, and a dessert (this time being a sponge cake). While the food certainly wasn't gourmet, it was better than expected. I recommend not eating the entire dinner though if you're like me with a tiny stomach. You'll be asking to get rolled out of there. Note, too, that they have a bar on site for drinks. These you purchase separately. Parking around the area is ample and free. This little town doesn't seem have much going for it except this majestic-looking opera house, which I found out has two floors and has been around forever and a day. They seem to host a variety of events, and well, I definitely want to go back. The Playbill I received had next season's showings and there's one there that intrigues me about Anne Frank. Hmm...

Attended a play at this jewel of a place for the first time since the pandemic. Though the past…read moreplays I attended have been staged in the banquet hall (with a delicious catered dinner and an open bar), sitting in the auditorium was really nice. The building is old but precious, with original wood throughout. Though I had an enjoyable time, the only drawback was the sound. I am not sure of the types of microphones, etc., used. I heard most of the actors clearly, but a couple of the actors' voices were a bit muffled throughout the play. All in all, I am looking forward to attending more plays. And if/when I feel comfortable again being seated closely with other patrons at the same table, in a limited space while sharing a common meal, I will definitely do so - just not now. Though the auditorium is on the second floor and there are two flights of stairs, there is also an elevator. Of note, for those who love quaint settings for performances, consider donating to MOH to help maintain the ambiance and structural features.

Before we even hired Nate, he didn't know that he was a part of me and my husband's story because my husband asked me out while on the dance floor at a wedding that Nate was DJing. When we told him the story, he was beyond excited to be a part of it, and he even told it at our wedding that was such a sweet and special touch that I didn't know he was going to do. Their communication and professionalism is top-notch, and they truly want to deliver The experience that you and your partner specifically want for your wedding. We asked for a party vibe, we didn't want to stop dancing the whole night, and we did not stop dancing! Nate jumped into the crowd with us which we wanted, and staying with us to songs all throughout the night. He even surprised us with a little bride versus groom battle, which gave us some of the best core memories we will ever have. I quite literally cannot say enough good things about our experience with Nate and amplify. The music selection was spot on, and we didn't even give him too much direction beyond just genres. They make sure you fill out a long form so they know specifically an exactly the kind of music you do or don't want at your wedding. He even edited my ceremony song for me so that I would have my favorite parts play while I was walking down the aisle. You want them as your DJ at your wedding, trust me! My favorite memories will be from when we were on the dance floor.

Let's start here... At 9pm, when the music stopped, our DJ…read moreDakota asked my bride if she wanted to end the wedding early because his WIFI wasn't working(WHAT!?!?). That's right, he didn't have music to play. One of our guests plugged their phone in and played off of her downloaded apple music. We were extremely clear that there would be absolutely NO profane music and he played multiple UNEDITED EXPLICIT songs including the song during the bouquet toss which had everyone's attention. We were mortified. 70% of our guests at the ceremony think that we didn't have any music playing. We paid an extremely talented guitarist that nobody got the pleasure of hearing. Nate tells me that falls on the guitarist, but he also stated that Dakota did the sound check for him and the reason that the music was nonexistent is because the crowd absorbed the sounds....(at an outdoor ceremony??) Dakota was COMPLETELY DISASSOCIATED with the crowd and was a HUGE disappointment. The owner Nate apologized; him and Dakota "feel terrible" and he offered to take us to dinner. HE SAID NO TO A REFUND. I have never been so humiliated by a company in all of my life. Everyone talked during the speeches and nobody could hear anything. One of my guests approached me and said they went to the DJ and told them they couldn't hear out of the speaker because its echoing. The DJ responded with "that's just the way it is and I can't do anything about it". We had two meetings prior to the wedding. They were late to both. Small detail but it all adds up to literally nothing going right. There are a lot of great reviews and I know everyone is human. I understand that disasters happen. What I do not understand is how this situation is handled. They sell themselves on "we are much more than just a DJ, we also coordinate and make sure everything goes smoothly". They couldn't even fulfill their contract which reads "The DJ hereby agrees to skillfully and faithfully render his or her professional services and is AT ALL TIMES TO HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL OF HIS OF HER PROGRAM ". Pretty positive that contract was breached when one of my guests took the DJ's role and played her downloaded music.

I'd you have a weekend event, use another organization. Their main phone number has a message that says they aren't there on the weekends, but if you have an emergency, leave a message and they'll return a call 'IMMEDIATELY '...I called 4 times and sent 2 urgent emails. Guess what? Yep, not a single response. They provided an email advising they'd deliver my items by 10:15am. No call saying they'd be late, no follow up to my urgent calls and when they arrived 21/5 hours late with the wrong tent I discussed with Kristen (20x40).. unfortunately, I didn't catch the mistake on the quote, and they overcharged for another item, I was stuck with a 20 x 20 tent. When the delivery guys finally showed up, they forgot poles at the shop, so they left for an hour to pick up the missing poles. The guys were nice, just caught up in a bad situation. They called the 'boss' who clearly never learned how to actually act like a boss. A complete ignorant buffoon. She had no explanation for the lack of response to my many calls, or why Kristen didn't pay attention to what she wrote. The Boss tried to resolve the situation by saying ' let me see if we can bring an additional smaller tent, can we put that on your card...I couldn't hardly believe it. We're 3 hours late now and this giant fool tells me she'll try to help and give me your credit card so I can screw you again...well, hell no, that's not going to happen. You've already ruined my event with your 3 hour delay, the wrong tent, and your unprofessional, rude attitude. I would fire someone so inept if they worked for my company. So, I was being generous with the 1 star review. Nobody even checked with me to see if they could do anything more. Just left. No goodbye, no hope it goes well, no I'm sorry, or I apologize for the boss being an idiot, nothing. Got in the truck and left. Good riddance. I will never hire this bunch of unprofessional people ever again.
