I am happy to write this review for Aviara Pavers. My wife and I were looking to retrofit our built in grill space due to a gas leak we were experiencing. Jason came to our home on short notice to assess the situation and provided us with some options. We ultimately decided to invest in completely re-doing our backyard space. Although we already have a custom pool, we wanted to replace grass with turf, concrete with beautiful pavers, put a new gas line in, a new fire pit, and a custom bbq area for our new grill. They even created a putting green for us! From start to finish, Jason and Daniel (our project manager) were extremely easy to work with. They are creative and make suggestions when you ask, but still are clear that the customer is in charge - zero pressure. They were efficient, and came in at about half the quoted cost of a competitor we met with. The team was great too. All of the contractors we called quickly responded to our inquiries. Our final meeting was with Daniel of Aviara Pavers. He spent significantly more time with us than the others. This is a long review, but if you're skimming quickly, the bottom line is .... great company, great result, great process. After getting quite a few estimates, we chose Aviara and we am very happy that we did. After living in our house in Rancho Bernardo for a year, we decided to get rid of our backyard landscape rocks and aging flagstone patio. With every estimate obtained we learned more about what we wanted and what to ask. Even so, Jason Farr, the owner of Aviara, wasn't the last person we talked to, but after meeting him we were pretty sure his company would be the one we picked. His estimate wasn't the cheapest, nor was it the highest. Initially, we decided on Aviara for several reasons. Jason addressed all of our concerns, had some creative solutions, and didn't suggest anything that we had learned would be a bad idea (again, we had learned with every estimate received, and some people made suggestions that didn't make sense). His company work process sounded good to us, being neither too large nor too small, and we liked him personally. We asked for references, who of course had positive things to say. What mattered to us was what they were happy about, and how they experienced Aviara's work. Once we decided, we were able to set a date, and finish picking paver brands and colors. Jason was very accommodating, driving to look at neighborhood driveways whose color we liked, bring samples, and helping us decide on whether we wanted a mix. Of all of the project decisions, this was the hardest, because obviously you don't want to change your mind on paver selection mid-stream. He contributed his ideas, listened to our thoughts, and soon enough we felt confident in our decision. Once the job began, Daniel, the project manager took the reins for then most part, and he too was wonderful to work with. The same 3 man crew was there from beginning to end, they cleaned up every day, and even worked with us to make sure we could park in the garage every night, which is a big deal to us. Everything went extremely well, and finished on time and on schedule. When part of the concrete sidewalk in back turned out to be the wrong level for drainage, Jason and Daniel alerted us, we talked options, and the necessary changes were made to the plan. Jason said that he would only charge us his costs for that. That necessary change led us to make a related change, and in the long run, he only charged us for the 2nd one, not the first. Three other major bright spots. When Jason called with a start date, sooner than we had expected, it happened to coincide with day after our 2ndCOVID vaccine. We discussed it, he said he would do his best to delay, but wasn't at all sure he could without having us get back in line. A day or two before, he was able to let us know he had a one day job he could squeeze in, so we were able to relax going into the vaccine knowing there wouldn't be jackhammers in our yard for day 2 (which turned out to be a real blessing). Secondly, when we signed the contract, Jason knew that drainage, especially near the brick walled sun room, was a major concern and one of the big reasons for doing the project in the first place. He agreed to perform a hose test at the end to alleviate our concerns. This even though he provides a 5 year labor warranty, far beyond all the other companies' 1 year warranties. And finally, at the end, when we were already 100% satisfied and had paid in full, Jason came back and looked at our concrete driveway. He decided that the paver tractor had left tire marks on it, and arranged to have Daniel come with a pressure washer to clean it. And when Daniel did so, he cleaned our driveway to backyard sidewalk as well, which wasn't impacted by Aviara at all. All in all, a wonderful experience. We wish they did other work we need done as well, so that we could hire them again. They are that good. We recommend them highly. read more

My fiancé and I shopped around and received quotes from 4 other companies before finally choosing Aviara Pavers. What stood out almost immediately was Jason's expertise, friendliness, and honesty. We didn't have the easiest situation because of the amount of stone debris buried in our yard from the previous owner, but Jason was confident in his crews ability to tackle the issue. This was not the case with other contractors--as they used this to create a price point that was out of the budget. I think this company is as good as it gets when you're working with contractors. I've recently remodeled my backyard and downstairs so it was finally time to take care of the front yard. In my experience it can be difficult to even get people to show up to give you a quote if you're not a massive job, but Jason and his team were always punctual and very responsive. When Jason first showed up with his iPad and design software, I thought, "no way are we going to be using this company because the quote is going to be really high" but it was very competitive and they were willing to work with me to fit the project into my budget. He didn't charge me any extra for the extensive roots that had to be removed and they redid my entire front yard in two weeks. I'll start by saying I've only done a couple of Yelp reviews (ever!), because frankly it requires a rather comprehensive (& elusive!) level of satisfaction for me to want to carve out the time it takes to write a meaningful review. So here we go... Aviara Pavers... They recently installed artificial turf for us in our backyard. If you're looking to have ANY type of landscaping project done at your home or business, I would highly recommend that your first (& perhaps only) phone call be with Jason Farr, owner/operator. First off, he actually answers his phone!! If you've ever had construction/home improvement projects done before, you'll know that the communication aspect is HUGE. Contractors (even the good ones) are notorious for lagging on returning calls, sending out bids, following up, being clear/concise, etc. I get it... 8+ hour days in the trenches, hard to pick up the 100lb phone. But as the client and ultimately the person writing the check at the end, I not only expect to receive the highest quality of finished product, and but I also demand clear/timely communication throughout. Aviara Pavers & Jason receive an A+ across the board in all categories... No doubt top 1% for exceptional customer service! I live in Escondido & have been on a 3+ year mission to dial in my landscape. The missing & final component to finally have the the back yard of my dreams realized was to swap out 1100sq ft of sod/grass for artificial turf. I consider myself a naturalist, but to maintain an epic lawn in 100+ degree Esco summers requires near daily watering, lots of fertilizer/chemicals (), and ultimately needs re-sodding every 5 years or so. Just the sheer cost of irrigation alone - & frankly, the irresponsibility of daily watering, even if $ were no object - got me thinking twice about turf. And then the rabbits came and annihilated every last blade of grass (not to mention my dog Maya with daily urination), and I finally had made up my mind. My wife somehow found out about Aviara through a friend, and she made the initial phone call to Jason to stop by to discuss project details, and to offer professional advice on layout/shape/size/etc. The next day he came back to drop off a plethora of samples... There were darker greens, lighter greens, mixed coloration, short blade, longer blade, product density, low heat retention.... Decisions decisions!! Jason addressed all our questions & concerns, provided us a professional opinion on a 2-3 of his favorites, but then left them with us to stare at and "try on" for a few days. FYI, he works with a number of different turf vendors, so if you are super particular like us, he will not only get it for you, but be super accommodating in helping you find the right product. The following week, we had a crew at our house. And to say that they worked fast & methodical is an understatement... By the end of that 95 degree day, the install was fully complete! They had: Removed all the previous grass (by hand... a Bobcat would've been too invasive to the surrounding landscape); Capped old sprinkler lines & rerouted new ones (I kept them in place to be able to rinse turf once per week on a 2 min cycle); Brought in yards and yards of DG and road base material to prep the surface; Implemented a gopher mesh and some deodorizing agent (for the dog when she pees). Recreated my surrounding edger boarder as we were enlarging a planter area, & then ultimately worked around various straight and curved lines, cut-outs, etc. to create what you see in the attached pictures. Absolutely stunning!!! One last thing... As with all projects, there were a couple of final details that I wanted to take care of at the end (yep, I'm one of those hard to please clients!). Jason came right back and happily attended to those, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Yes, there's definitely an upfront cost that comes with installation of high quality turf. Aviara is competitive (I did talk to other outfits at the start), but that aside, when you start factoring in ~$50 a month in water savings, the pain and suffering that comes with maintenance, ROI quickly becomes realized, and best yet I now have green REAL looking "grass" year round that the kids (and Maya!) now love to play on. I liken our new turf to "The Dude's Rug" in the movie the Big Lebowksi... "It ties the room together!" Without a doubt one of the most rewarding projects done to date... THANK YOU again Aviara!! PS. Aviara/Jason recently completed a much more comprehensive landscaping project in our neighborhood: Regrading of a front and back yard, beautiful retaining walls, lighting, foliage, turf, the whole nine yards.
