After everything we've been through with our previous contractor, working with this hardscape company has been an absolute breath of fresh air. From day one, they have made us feel heard, supported, and genuinely cared for. Their communication is second to none--they respond almost immediately, set up a family group chat to keep everyone informed, and are always available to answer questions. The renderings Gabriel creates are absolutely stunning, incredibly lifelike, and they offer unlimited revisions until everything is exactly right. The quality of their planning and attention to detail is exceptional. Tony immediately scheduled a meeting with the city inspector to build a relationship and ensure every aspect of the project is done correctly and up to code from the very beginning, which gave us tremendous confidence. The job site has been immaculate, the professionalism has been outstanding, and it's obvious this family-owned business truly takes pride in their work and their clients. We are still early in the project, but based on our experience so far, they have exceeded every expectation. A true 10 out of 10 experience, and we would highly recommend them. If I could give less than 1 star I certainly would. As you can read for yourself, this is a hit and miss company. SOMETIMES they do a good job, SOMETIMES it's a complete fail. We hired them to do a complete renovation of our backyard. This is our vacation home and we stressed to them how we wanted the work to be done while we were away so that we could enjoy our vacation home the limited time we have. And what did they do? The exact opposite. No work would be done for weeks at a time - as reported to us by our neighbors - and then when they knew we would be at the home, they would show up and do work. This situation repeated itself for 2 years. 2 YEARS. We also ended up having a problem with the city of Encinitas as we were told by the company that they took care of all the permits necessary. They didn't and then we had the city Planning Dept involved in every step of the project. So much time and money wasted. And the stress involved was over the top. Disgusted with Gabriel and how we were treated. This was a $150,000 project. read more

I would give them 10 stars if I could. From the estimate to the finished project you cannot go wrong. Gabriel and the rest of his team are absolutly amazing. Shout out to Gus who supervised both the projects we had done. Many of the team are family which is nice and ensures a quality well supervised product. Genuinely liked this company at first. Built a beautiful Cabana structure and backyard fireplace renovation for us (5-stars), but then the wheels fell off. Electrician was sloppy, plaster-paint fit and finish, even worse. After ~$70k and months of "punch list" fixes, the finish and follow-through left a lot to be desired as they clearly had started a new project elsewhere and lost interest. We even had to get a second company out to do our softscape since we never got a rendering or estimate Rivers repeatedly promised. And now... we're having to redo our paver sand and sealing because they failed to compact/tamp the sand. One rain storm and It all bubbled and washed away. This redo likely means re-painting again. Already had three neighbors and a friend ask if I'd refer this company for their projects and, well, had to be honest. read more

We feel like we live in a resort now, and our kids are loving the playground! These guys were pretty much early everyday, they had to demo a concrete firepit and putting green to install the pad, playground tiles, grass, and they built the playgym for us. They handled the dumpsters and portable toilet arrangements. Rivers landscaping also installed our low voltage lighting using high grade materials, much better than the hardware store stuff I've seen, and they also planted and transplanted some plants, updated the irrigation, came in at budget, and they even got rid of a rattlesnake for us while on the job. I joined Yelp to write this review. This is it. It's the only review you need to read. I'm pretty sure I'm a pain in the butt to work with. I'm demanding. Opinionated. React badly to surprises. Of all the projects I've done to my house, I pretty much never work with that contractor again. I've long felt it's impossible to find a contractor that has the three aspects we all desire: High quality, responsive and meets deliverables, and reasonably priced. Two of the three, sure - but quality and responsiveness usually comes with a price premium. Rivers Landscape Construction is all three. About a year ago I contacted Gabriel after reading Yelp reviews and he was out the next week to meet with us. We had about 1200 sq foot back yard which was basically concrete and some struggling lawn, and wanted to tear it all out and build a massive outdoor living room. An outdoor man cave. A salute to sneaky-drinks on a lazy Sunday afternoon and making the most of this glorious climate. We'd already drawn up some architectural diagrams through a friend but Gabriel did his own in Sketchup. He came up with ingenious ideas we'd not thought of, how to place the patio posts to maximize the covered space, and where to put the fireplace. At the same time I got bids from 4 other shops. Or at least, I tried to. 1 of them didn't even return my calls and another came out and did measurements but then just ghosted my calls afterwards. The other two gave me bids which were 50% more than Rivers for one, and 100% more for the other (but strangely included wanting to re-stucco my whole house, switch out my windows and a bunch more stuff I told them explicitly I wasn't interested in.). So we made the choice and signed the contract with Rivers. This was a Milestone payment plan, which I liked, with rules on any changes would require a Change Order. They gave me a time frame of 6 weeks. They were done in 7, but lost two weeks due to rain. Every single day Gus our foreman was here. He even came up with ideas Gabriel hadn't thought of, like added buried conduit for lighting and some additional irrigation zones at no cost. Like every project, it was not without some problems. The difference here though they addressed them all in a timely fashion, always answered the phone, and in the end my project cost exactly what they said it would. End result? LOL it's kinda insane. I can't believe this is our backyard, it looks like something from a magazine. It's the little things that really stand out. While building the fireplace, Gus asks me hey man wouldn't it be cool if we recessed that mounted TV and put tongue and groove behind it to match the ceiling? And we could do a raised planters around the back wall to close off the turf, but stagger them at different heights. Who does that?? They even custom ordered black gutters to match the black painted iron work - again no extra cost. All I can say is, thank you so much to Gabriel and Gus and his team of consummate professionals. I don't plan on ever selling this house, but if I do, and move somewhere that needs a backyard makeover - Gabriel will be the first person I call. If you're tired of working with contractors that dick you around, or don't deliver on promises, come in over budget, or quality is less than perfect do yourself a favor and call these guys. read more

We just finished a side, back and front yard remodel project at our home in Carlsbad. We started this project back in January with one contractor who mis-represented himself as licensed, but was not. Make sure you check the State Contractors License Board website with his or her license number before you give them a dime. To say the least this was an unpleasant experience and caused a 3 1/2 month delay. However, even though it caused the delay and cost us money, we discovered someone who is probably one of the Best Landscape Contractors in San Diego County!!! In our search for someone to take over our project we found, "Rivers Landscape". To say the least, we were awed by their approach, professionalism, construction and just how nice and accommodating they were. Gabriel Rios is one of the owners and Sales Representatives and is simply amazing!!! I also cannot say enough about our foreman, Orlando, who was assigned to our project. I am an almost fanatical detail person and they met or exceeded every small issue I could have thought of. We had interviewed other companies and none compared to their level of expertise and professionalism. Carmelo and Alan were the stone and rough layout guys (drainage, electrical, gas line, steel reinforcing). These guys were wonderful and so talented. We also had Jorge, who was a master in a number of areas, including our new vinyl fence, composite deck, lighting and any other tasks that needed help. When we got down to the plants stage, Olivia did a great job of laying out the plant selection and meeting us at the nursery to confirm our plant likes and dislikes and then ordering everything. Panchito rounded out this stage with such an in-depth knowledge of irrigation (valves, pvc and sprinkler heads) and took such time and care to make sure every plant was lovingly planted and watered. Even their driver, Jose, was so very nice. When he wasn't delivering stuff to our project he pitched in and helped with all of the work. Everything we dreamed of for our new side, back and front yards was completed to perfection by Gabriel and Rivers Landscape. We got a new beautiful fire pit with stone surround, stone columns for the patio supports, a beautiful bar/countertop with stone bases an amazing composite deck, a new installed vinyl fence with gates and all the lush landscape to make our yard seem like a tropical get-away. Gabriel took the time with us to confirm our concrete color choice and his concrete guys did such detailed and beautiful, smooth work that completes the picture perfect remodel. Everything was done on-time, unlike the previous unlicensed contractor, on budget with guys working at our place 5-6 days every week until completion. We cannot say enough about Gabriel and Orlando! We hired Gabriel, Tony and their team to do the landscaping and construction for the entirety of the exterior component of our home. We were having the entire house constructed as a result of a major fire loss and with a 1970s era pool given the extent of the construction we decided to go for it for the exterior landscaping and truly bring our home into the 21st century. The total job scope included demo of existing deck and patio and reinstalling with pavers, patio trellis, fencing, grass and sod installation, sprinkler installation, veggie box/planters, plant/tree/flower installation, pouring a brand new concrete driveway, drainage throughout, and running all electrical lines and install for low-voltage landscape lighting. We had interviewed about a half dozen other landscape contractors. Gabriel was head and shoulders above the competition just in the first impression. Can you imagine how poor it is when three out of the six people that we reached out to never got back to us or returned a call? Imagine the type of service you could expect from somebody who runs their business that way. Out of the landscape contractors responded back to us, it was Gabriel who met us in person, showed us his vast book of resources and referrals and references and was very professional each step of the way. We did a massive overhaul on our front and backyard including a pool. We interviewed three pool companies and three landscaping companies. We started with picking the pool company first, which lead us to Rivers Landscaping. Our pool company said that Rivers has the best masons in town which was a plus for us since we needed a ton of stone, concrete, walls and pool coping. We also wanted a landscape company that had the resources and equipment to get the job done fast. Rivers has it, they did a great job and helped us through out the process. I recently needed to redo my concrete driveway because of a broken sprinkler pipe underneath and many cracks after 34 years. I decided to put in pavers, and I chose to work with Rivers Landscape after they did two incredible large jobs in my neighborhood that were absolutely beautiful. One of them was my next door neighbor's house. and I watched as their yard was completely gutted and redone. None of the other purveyors whom I contacted impressed me once I investigated them and/or upon meeting them (if they showed up at all). In desperation, I turned to Angie's List (which I had never used but now count on) and found Rivers. Despite the good reviews, I was fully prepared for Rivers to be a disappointment. I figured I would be ripped off, put off or both. Nothing of the sort happened. Everyone who worked on my project from Rivers was professional and competent. I kept asking Gabriel when we were going to have a disagreement or problem. Rivers just finished my job and the "bad times" never came. I am almost afraid to say I had no problems as I know from previous remodels/projects that this never happens. But it happened for me. Rivers Landscape built us a large BBQ area, textured stamped concrete, a veranda, and did all of the landscaping. The price on everything was the cheapest I could find. I did a lot of research as well. Gabriel was very easy to work with. They did anything I asked them to do. They finished everything approximately one week early. All of the materials they used were good quality. They cleaned everything up after they were done as well. They did more work than we were quoted for and they did not charge us any extra. They brought their own porta-potty, and they kept it out of the way. Gabriel offered to come out anytime in the future to fix anything that might break or we need to adjust. I highly recommend Rivers Landscape to anyone looking to remodel their yard. Great quality, great customer service, very friendly, very trustworthy, and very easy to work with.
