New to hair braiding but as a tourist I really wanted to make sure my hair doesn't get damaged. I met TAZ at a booth sight in Lahaina.. she was sweet at first BUT I later figured out that she was very frugal with her time and money. TAZ is very good at what she does but I would recommend booking her in advance for her V.I.P if you have a look in mind & making sure you have every detail of what you want in advance. For someone like me who has never done island braids and wanted to try them, I personally did not have an idea for exactly I was looking for..... And sadly TAZ did not help the situation by giving me false promises about what she will do and what she was about to do. Just because I was unaware about beading... doesn't mean that if I asked for something done right she should withhold information from me and tell me my times up, right ? Her people skills and trust in people are definitely lacking... it was obvious So just a fair warning about her attitude towards money and serving clients... other than that I think she has potential of growing her business. Aviella knew I flew from the Big Island to Maui to get my retwisted. Since she doesn't have her own salon she came to my Airbnb that I rented to get my hair done. She retwisted only 4 in a span of 2 hours and then asked me to pay her for the next two hours. I never had a professional do that before especially when I already put $95 down. Aviella insisted she takes cash only. I told her my debit card was expired and that my husband was going to come back home in a few hours and he can give me cash. I told her I can pay her on any app at the moment for the next 2 hours and then my husband can bring cash. She insisted I pay her for $120 and then she left. Yes she left! She refused to take PayPal, Venmo, CashApp or anything else. I would have been spending at least $800 and she just walked away from all that money on the table. To make matters worse I was going to be coming back to Maui from the Big Island and spending $800 every 6 weeks on Aviella and she also walked away from all of that money. That's $9,600 a year because she wasn't able to have the soft skills of negotiating or being patient. She just walked out just like that without trying to reschedule or anything. Extremely rigid, unable to be flexible or care about her clients more than herself. We were having such nice conversation too as well -- I was not rude or a bad client. She just needed it to be her way with ZERO negotiation after I booked flights and rented an Airbnb. She even texted me afterward leaving saying what nice conversation we had (as pictured below) but she couldn't be flexible at all. Truly crazy stuff! read more

My first time getting my hair professionally braided. It was a blessing to find this booth under the old Banyan Tree on Maui. I'm a Cali girl and had to get my hair braided for my ho'ike the next day. Taz was super sweet, and fast! Every other place I checked on the island wanted to charge $120+ for hair braiding! I had a horrible experience yesterday. I requested a style that I was told could be accommodated and ended up with a style that looked nothing like in requested. I am beyond devastated because I have an event to go to tomorrow and my hair looks like a 5 year old braided it. I was charged over $300 and the braids were frayed, clunky, and not neat at all. One of the braids in front was so tight that it rippled my scalp. When I said that I wasn't happy with the style, Taz said that it didn't look the same as the style that I requested because I needed a relaxer. I have had my hair braided many times on the mainland by professional braiders without a relaxer and my styles ALWAYS came out as I requested or better. I NEVER give ratings good or bad on services or products that I receive but her response and her lack of communication during the braiding process, the quality of her braiding and the challenges that she was having doing the style is the reason why I decided to publicly share my experience. My event has been ruined. I took the braids down and have no one to style my hair and while she offered to restyle my hair, I declined as I was no longer confident in her ability to do my hair as I requested. I was not offered a full or partial refund only a free style equal to the value of this service that I was provided. This was very unprofessional and poorly handled and I would not recommend her for hair braiding. BEWARE she will not refund any portion of your money if you are dissatisfied with her service. She will only offer a credit towards your next appointment with her. If you want your hair braided by a more seasoned/professional braider I recommend looking for someone on Oahu. read more

Taz did a wonderful job braiding my hair before my surgery (I knew I wouldn't be able to wash my hair myself for a while, so this was a great solution).
