I went here for a color touch up and highlights, because my regular stylist was on summer vacation... I experienced extreme burning and itching during whole process. Left with burn marks and blisters on my scalp. Hair looked beautiful until I washed, and then seriously handfuls came out!!!! I lost 70% of my hair over the next few washes. The owner of salon tried to gaslight me and tell me it was MY fault . That I had poor gut health and I needed to take probiotics. Are you kidding me? She had absolutely no empathy or compassion for what happened to me. It was absolutely devastating. You can see from pictures my extreme hair loss and fried hair. The reports from friends, Leah was very good or very bad. One thing they all had in common that she was overpriced for the island. I called to have my hair cut. I was told that I would have to have a consultation even though it was a long drive. I scheduled that and arrived and check in via text as they requested. After a half an hour of waiting outside the salon, I called. I was told Leah was shortening her hours and would not be taking new customers. They did not know this last week when I made the reservation, the time they confirmed , when I checked in or the half an hour that I waited??? So rude. I gave Leah a day to call and apologize. They fit me in last minute when I had a stylist at another salon not even show up for my appointment. I was able to get a wash and blow dry, plus two braids for $62. (Which seems like an extremely reasonable price to me.) Plus, my stylist was friendly, a good conversationalist, and knew how to braid well. read more

I would like to address a review that took place a few days ago. For one I first hand saw the whole thing go down as I was in the chair at the door when the person came to the door. One She was not outside for 7mins before being addressed. Two her attitude from the moment she walked in was very unfriendly. Three her knowledge of what Maui has in place for businesses is lacking as she did not read the emails sent to her prior to her visit explaining her hand bag and rules for entering hence her phone needing to be cleaned which she was very flippant towards Leah. My feeling of the exchange was the person that came in already had an attitude. Leah handled it very well and professionally. I have been going to Leah for 6 plus years. When I first started going to her my hair was a mess. She advised me on better care, Healthier products, and has my hair growing long and strong. The professionalism and knowledge of Leah and all the Stylists at The Hair Hale is top knotch. Leah has done Steve's hair for years as well and only she can get it perfect evertime. Didn't even get my hair done, cancelled my appointment 2 days in advance and i guess they never input my cancellation, i get a couple calls and texts so i reply letting them know that i think they made a mistake because i called and cancelled my appointment. after sending me screen shots of her system, refusing to admit fault on the salons end the stylist continued to text me and tell me that i need to give them MORE notice unless i'm sick. Not my fault you dumb bimbos can't figure out your own schedule. If you have a life outside of getting your hair done with a full highlight i suggest you find another salon that will understand you might have other priorities and doesn't harass you for cancelling your hair appointment. read more

It was time for a total change! Donated 12 inches of hair and unsure about the actual style I wanted upon arrival. While getting perfect highlights, I took screen shots of different ideas. When the color was setting, I sat with Jenna (my stylist) and reviewed all the pics I liked and then she also made recommendations that fit MY hair type and look. Then she did it! Last year (2020) when I was visiting Maui I needed a haircut and the hairstylist I chose that was available at Hair Hale did a fine job. This year I decided to book before I even arrived on Maui so that I could book an appointment with the owner of the salon, Leah, as I had read many good reviews about her. I'm glad I did, as she gave me a darling cut. When I arrived she listened to what I wanted and looked at pictures I had found on the web showing examples of what I was thinking. She had to cut a lot of hair to reach that style and did so with expertise. Leah is also very nice and easy to talk to; I connected with her immediately. If I lived on Maui she would become my regular go-to stylist. read more

I left this place in tears. I called on a Monday to make an appointment for Tuesday, seems simple. I wanted to get my hair professionally done before taking engagement pictures. I arrive 10 minutes early for my 4pm appointment and sit in the waiting area until after 4:30 with several employees giving me a side eyed glance but not saying so much as hello. I assumed they were running behind. When one of the ladies finally asked if I had an appointment (40 minutes later) it turned out that the person who put my reservation in put in the wrong day! I couldn't believe I had sat and waited for the better part of an hour just to be turned away! They offered to straighten my dirty hair for engagement pics. I asked if he could just tighten up my sides since they are starting to get a little long in the tooth for me and he quoted me $33.33 for a buzz cut. The guy behind the counter is looking at his calendar more than likely trying to find an excuse not to cut my hair, and I apologize for walking in without an appointment, but then again my buzz cut probably would haven taken no more than 10 minutes. *I saw Cindy Lee. Not worth it. Way overpriced. Most expensive haircut I've ever had in my life. I asked for a lightly layered bob to my shoulders. Now I'm dealing with a puffy bob that's even shorter because the stylist insisted on spending over an hour "thinning" my beautiful wavy hair, so focused on trying to keep up the small talk that she ruined my hair making me have no choice but come back to cut more off because I looked something like a cross between a mushroom and George Washington. She didn't seem to see a problem even though it was clearly way off from the pictures I showed her. Now I look like a boy. I wish I had waited to get in at my regular salon, head to toe or even Supercuts would have done a better job. read more

I recently visited a new salon for highlights and a cut. Unfortunately, my hair was severely damaged and my cut was uneven and choppy. I visited Leah and she worked her magic. I cancelled my appointment with 4 days notice and they still Have not refunded my deposit amount. I've called them several times with no help.. I've disputed the charge with my bank. Definitely my favorite hair salon in Hawaii. Cindy Lee is an absolute ROCK STAR when it comes to hair color and Jenna has taken wonderful care of my curly hair for years. Their work is on par with high end salons of major cities (that charge MUCH MORE) which is SO AWESOME to find here in the islands. Additionally, the Hair Hale carries all of the best hair products (Olaplex, Paul Mitchell, etc.) & do specialized treatments to restore sun/salt damaged hair.
