I spoke to their customer service and booked a reservation to pick up today (6/15) at 8:30 am. I verified with the rep I spoke with that they had my most recent up to date contact info (cell phone number and email address). The rep read back my info and I verified it was correct. I then received my reservation email confirmation. This morning (6/15) I arrive at 8:20 am and the woman there asked how she can help me. I told her I was there to pick up my reserved car. She asks for my info and then says "oh I'm sorry we called you minutes after you made the reservation to tell you we are sold out of cars but the number we have is not in service." I ask how is this possible as I have a reservation confirmation. She then says in a very cocky manner "well this happens all the time." So I say well I never received a call. She then reads off an old number of mine from years ago. I tell her yea that's an old number but I verified with the rep yesterday that you had all my current info. So then I asked if you couldn't get a hold of me via phone why was I not sent an email? She says in again, a cocky tone "we're only required to call." So I explain to her that I am needing to get to work and now I have no car. At that point, she looked like I was inconveniencing her and she said "well I'm sorry we have no cars" in her most unempathetic and cocky tone. She did not do 1 thing to try and help me out of this very bad situation. She couldn't be bothered! At this point this girl's attitude has got me fuming! But before I totally went off on this real housewives wana be, I just turned around and left. Luckily my wife waited for me and took me to work. I wish I got this girls name but I really hope she is not management because it's crystal clear she has ZERO idea what customer service is!

Hertz rental at Newport, RI airport…read more AWFUL!!!! We rented a car online. Got confirmation, then went to the location on the receipt. It is the airport in Newport, RI. Turns out they do NOT allow for rental Pickup's just Drop off's! When we tried to find out where the car was, all the contact numbers for Hertz were not in service anymore! This was also on a Sunday so no one else was open. Needless to say, it was a Disaster for us and all of our plans! Will NEVER use Hertz again. Be sure to call even if you get a confirmed booking. This location is not what the website says it is!!!! On our way out of town, we walked into an Enterprise. AMAZING. Their agent stayed passed closing to find us a car.

Avoid at all costs - UNSAFE CARS & Zero care for customer safety…read more We ended up at Old Harbor Bike & Moped Rentals because Aldo's screwed up our Bronco reservation and sent us here. Their boss agreed over the phone to "hold" a PT Cruiser for us while we walked over from Aldo's. When we got there, no one at the desk knew what we were talking about. We waited in line for 35-40 minutes before someone called the boss again and was told to hand us the PT Cruiser. At first, we were genuinely grateful that this location was able to step in and get us any car after the Bronco disaster but that relief disappeared almost instantly, and it became very clear we just traded one mess for another. The car was already running in the lot, and once we got in, we saw every dashboard warning light on check engine, battery and a portable battery booster just sitting in the back seat. No one mentioned any issues with the car, no warning that it might not start. Within the first couple of hours, it stalled repeatedly. We were stranded in a parking lot with no cell service at one stop, forced to try starting it over and over until it finally turned over. Later, it died again before barely restarting. The suspension was shot and it felt absolutely unsafe to drive even on main paved roads, never mind the island's dirt roads or side parking spots. We avoided certain roads entirely because the car felt like it couldn't handle even a small bump. It was slow to accelerate, rattled constantly, and genuinely felt dangerous. We were so nervous about getting stuck somewhere else with no way to call for help that we cut our rental short by hours and returned it early. When I told the woman at Old Harbor about the problems, multiple stalls, dangerous suspension, dashboard lights on from the moment we got in... she just stared at me, said nothing, and took the keys. No apology. No "we'll look into it." Nothing. This car should never have been rented to anyone. It was unsafe, unreliable, and clearly not maintained. And the complete lack of concern from the staff when I reported the issues says everything about how little they care about customer safety.

For cars, it's anywhere from $70-95 for one hour and goes up by $20-50 each hour plus a mandatory $10 insurance fee. For bikes it was $27.50 for 4 hours but a majority of their bikes are more like mountain bikes so they're harder to ride. The staff is very friendly and understanding about switching out bikes so they get 5 stars but the price is definitely a 1. Bikes come with a helmet but I didn't see any locks. However the island seems safe and lots of people feel comfortable leaving their bikes in the racks unlocked without getting it stolen. Hopefully it stays that way.

Any time I called with questions they responded quickly with good and helpful answers. On the day we dropped off the car the owner's son,Henry Wallace, offered to take us to the ferry landing as we had a lot of luggage. I'd say with 50 years of travel and car rental experience they rate at the top of the list.

If you can drive a manual transmission then I would recommend getting those instead. The rental shop was well organized. They had our paperwork ready to go, the Slingshot was gased up and ready for us. We got a review of all the workings of the bike, got an instruction video and then we were off. When we got home, my wife was like "we should get one". So... who knows, maybe we will. This business rents Slingshots, U-Hauls, sell used cars and is an auto repair shop. Check this place out. Give 'em a shot... get a slingshot.

I ended up in a much better car than I expected and he was very understanding when I got caught in a major rainstorm and arrived after the time the car was due back. I don't usually get such personalized service from Enterprise, and forget Hertz, they tell you you're getting a discount and then quote the regular rate after you've spent 45 minutes with their call center. I will definitely choose Avis on my next car rental based on my positive experience with Aaron.

She called them (this office) and they said "No reservation and no SUVs". This is a very sad comment on the hertz national desk, I am assuming. In the future, I'll call the local office where I want to pick up the car, only. Been dealing with hertz for decades. First time they've screwed up anything like this; very disappointing. One hypothesis is that local hertz-es are franchised, or something; regardless they are not connected to a single national computer in anything real time. Called them to complain. Everyone is very nice, but they don't have an answer as to what I should do in the future.
