If yelp had negative stars I'd give them 10! So on 6/14 I called enterprise to rent a car for 6/15 - 6/17 due to my car needing to go in for brake replacement. I spoke to their customer service and booked a reservation to pick up today (6/15) at 8:30 am. I verified with the rep I spoke with that they had my most recent up to date contact info (cell phone number and email address). The rep read back my info and I verified it was correct. I then received my reservation email confirmation. This morning (6/15) I arrive at 8:20 am and the woman there asked how she can help me. I told her I was there to pick up my reserved car. She asks for my info and then says "oh I'm sorry we called you minutes after you made the reservation to tell you we are sold out of cars but the number we have is not in service." I ask how is this possible as I have a reservation confirmation. She then says in a very cocky manner "well this happens all the time." So I say well I never received a call. She then reads off an old number of mine from years ago. I tell her yea that's an old number but I verified with the rep yesterday that you had all my current info. So then I asked if you couldn't get a hold of me via phone why was I not sent an email? She says in again, a cocky tone "we're only required to call." So I explain to her that I am needing to get to work and now I have no car. At that point, she looked like I was inconveniencing her and she said "well I'm sorry we have no cars" in her most unempathetic and cocky tone. She did not do 1 thing to try and help me out of this very bad situation. She couldn't be bothered! At this point this girl's attitude has got me fuming! But before I totally went off on this real housewives wana be, I just turned around and left. Luckily my wife waited for me and took me to work. I wish I got this girls name but I really hope she is not management because it's crystal clear she has ZERO idea what customer service is! read more

I called ahead and asked if there were any rental cars available. I didn't expect there would be any available due to it being the holiday weekend at the time. To my surprise, the agent on the phone answered that there were available cars. She gave me options over the phone, and I made a choice and shortly after I got off the phone with her, I received a reservation confirmation via e-mail that listed the pickup and return date, as well as the selected vehicle. Bear in mind, I had lost my car in a flood due to Ida and had no way to get around. After trying for over an hour, I managed to get an Uber from my residence to Enterprise and had to pay $50 for it. The Uber driver departed after dropping me off. I entered the office only to be told that there was no car available. It came as a shock - especially when I was told over the phone that cars were available and even got a reservation confirmation email. I was told it was because there was a list of 12 people ahead of me that all had reservations and there were no cars left. Well OK, but they could have told me that -OVER THE PHONE- when I first called!!!!! I paid money to an Uber driver to get over there. He had already left, and I was stranded in Newport. For the grace of God, I had a relative that was driving through the area in an hour that could pick me up and take me home. The staff were completely unapologetic and didn't even try to rectify the situation. They treated me horribly. The least they could have done is given me $50 for the needless Uber trip I took to Newport. It was just baffling to be told two completely different things. It seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing in that office. Bottom line: Go somewhere else that is reliable and trustworthy for your rental because you can't trust the staff here to tell you what you need to know ahead of time. This location is a disaster. The people are decent but the cars are filthy. I've been renting here almost once a week (pre covid and throughout the pandemic) and it just seems to get worse everytime. They lack the know how to satisfy the customer. They take reservations, then call you to ask if you can come hours later because they don't have anything (and god forbid they upgrade you). They made people wait in tents in the freezing rain all clustered together to get rentals and then it's another 15-20 min until you actually get your keys. It's just pathetic. I finally gave up on the them and now opt to take an Uber to PVD airport so I can use my preferred National rentals. It's about 30 minutes to get there but worth every minute. This place needs to get their act together and take a course in cleanliness and customer service. read more

Enterprise Rent-A-Car service in Middletown, RI was amazing!! Maggie, with Enterprise, was amazing. We had booked with Hertz and our car was not there when we arrived at the stated location, even though we had a confirmed confirmation! As we were driving back home, we happen to drive by an Enterprise location and decided to try and see if they had one for us. Mind you this was a Sunday at 11:45am. The business closed at noon. The manager, Maggie, not only found a car for us, but we incredibly professional and friendly. It was such a treat, and a life saver! It's the only Enterprise on the island, and I have rented from this place often since 2012, several times a year. Most times the staff are great, but the policies have not been great. This is absolutely one of those awful times: I got on COSTCO Travel services a month ago and rented a van from the Middletown RI Enterprise office. Costco would not have enabled this choice but for the fact that at the time vans were listed on the Middletown website, right? I go to pick up the van this morning and am told, "We don't rent vans. We have a mini-van, though." A cargo van is 2 1/2 times the size of a mini, which is why I needed it. I'm hauling handicap equipment to my elderly parents' home to do myriad modifications for my mother who is transitioning to the wheelchair. There's a HUGE DIFFERENCE between a cargo van and a mini-van. I said Costo allowed me to book a van because it was on their website and I actually have seen vans on the lot recently. She explained they DID have a special for vans a while back, but no longer. How in the world is Costco or a customer supposed to know the rug would be pulled from under us a month later? If the Middletown Enterprise office KNEW they would not be renting vans a month later, they should NOT have put that rental opportunity on their website so Costco would not find it. THIS IS NOT COSTCO'S OR MY FAULT, but Enterprise's. The clerk said the Johnston Enterprise is a different department (but it's still an ENTERPRISE) and could not bring a van down to Middletown. She suggested I drive up there to get a van and leave my truck on the street for 2 weeks (because the Johnston site would not allow me to leave my truck in their lot where it would be safe). I said my truck would be stolen and I cannot do that. The SOLUTION should have been: "I will call the Johnston office and tell them we are sending 2 of our Middletown people up there to GET A VAN FOR YOU." I asked if they have a big truck they can get to me at the same rate as the van, although I did not really want to have to tarp all the medical equipment for 2 days' worth of driving. She said she would let me know. This was MY compromise with Enterprise when I truly needed a van. It is now 6 hours later and still no e-mail regarding an F150 rental. With all the Enterprise offices in this state, I find it IMPOSSIBLE that every single one of them would not have a van or truck they could deliver to Middletown to honour the contract I made for a van today. Wakefield--just 20 mins away--has trucks and vans, and Johnston is only 45 minutes away. SHAME ON THE MIDDLETOWN ENTERPRISE for not sending someone up there to get a van or truck. So let's review: ENTERPRISE put up on their website a month ago a van for rent, which I grabbed through Costco. They decided to scrap the availability at some point since I contracted for it. Today they are saying it was a special deal with the Navy. If that were the case, then NO vans should have been advertised on Enterprise's website for Middletown if only the Navy was supposed to benefit. Enterprise should have honoured that contract they knew about a whole month in advance. It was only late afternoon the day PRIOR to my pick-up that they left a message of, "We have a mini-van," as if that's a suitable replacement for a cargo van. I'm deaf so I did not get the message because I cannot hear them. At the very least, they should have worked harder all morning to bring at least an F150 from a nearby office as replacement when I said it would okay. Over 6 hours later and there is NOTHING. THERE IS ZERO EXCUSE FOR MIDDLETOWN ENTERPRISE AGENTS TO FAIL IN GETTING ME A VAN OR A TRUCK--they had a whole month to get me one from the Johnston Enterprise, "different division" (but STILL ENTERPRISE), and there are many, many other Enterprise offices nearby. All departments and divisions of the SAME COMPANY still work together, right?? They all draw lines in some imaginary sand and don't work with each other? What is that? It's POOR, POOR BUSINESS is what it is. Going on 2.30 pm and my mother's medical equipment is still sitting on my porch waiting to be loaded on to some Enterprise rental....Way to go, Enterprise, for a colossal failure all the way around. UPDATE: I went back at 4.30pm to ask what is happening--nothing came on the lot today (one no-show and another truck is in the shop). I then asked the clerk why it was okay for her to tell ME to go to the Johnston Enterprise office to get the van but not a Middletown Enterprise employee....Her answer: "Enterprise employees must have a specific driver's license to drive a commercial vehicle like a cargo van." WHAT??? If a CUSTOMER does not need one to rent and drive a cargo van through Enterprise, why would an employee??? This has been my first interaction with Enterprise and I must say that I am completely satisfied with my experience. Morgan brought the rental car to me at Crown Collision, made sure that I understood the process and was kind and patient with me. Morgan also assisted me when I returned the car and assured me that my entire deposit would be returned my account. She made this experience pleasant from beginning to end. Rented a van 1 month in advance only to be told the day before that they didn't have any vans. Tried calling as my whole trip was ruined, but they didn't answer the phone. They offered an SUV which I had to take but everyone was extremely uncomfortable with no room for luggage. My friend also rented a car a week before us and when she arrived they didn't have any cars even though she had a reservation. I understand that companies are having a hard time finding employees but not having a car when you booked 1 month in advance. Why even make a reservation? Last time renting here. read more

Having just dropped my wife off to pick up a rental, I was about to exit the parking lot at the exit to my right. Suddenly a car pulled up to my right and stoped short right next to me so I couldn't proceed. I could have hit that car had I not been acutely aware of my surroundings. The driver signaled to me to back up so he could proceed. I signaled that I was trying to exit and suggested he back up to let me out. He grumbled some obcenities and refused to back off. He was wearing an Enterprise shirt - a short round Italian or Hispanic man with a holier-than-everyone attitude. After some exchange of words he jumped out of his vehicle aggressively calling me names telling me I don't know how to drive. I expressed my displeasure with his attitude as an employee of Enterprise Rent A Car and told him to get his butt back in his car and move it so I could get out of the parking lot. Is Enterprise so desperate for workers that they keep this kind of poor-attitude employee around? Fortunately, I have enough sense to stay inside my vehicle under such a situation or there would have been one very sorry stupid Enterprise employees laying on the parking lot with his butt seriously kicked. These guys are professionals. Love this place. I made my reservation online, showed up bright and early before they opened. Right on the dot at 8 am they opened and began helping the line that accrued. I was checked in and had the keys in less than 10 minutes. No hassle service but still great quality, checking and reviewing everything. They unfortunately didn't have the size car I wanted so I got upgraded for free. Dropped it off this morning and they just took the keys and told me they would shoot me an email with the receipt. Within 15 minutes I had the receipt in my inbox. Great service from this neighborhood Enterprise office! Our first time to Newport, Rhode Island, my wife and I enjoyed the complimentary pick up from our hotel and the brief history lesson of this historic town on our way to pick up the car. There weren't too many cars available so they must stay busy, as our class of car that we reserved was unavailable, but the alternative they offered us worked out even better. The car hadn't been cleaned since the last rental--I assume due to the high demand. Overall, a very nice experience! read more

We rented a car for 10 days and had a great experience. Booked online and got a fantastic rate. Car was clean and did not smell like smoke, which is a plus for me. Our reservation was at noon and we had to wait about 20 min for the car, but we were not in a rush. They are a very busy shop so I would say just give yourself some time when picking up and dropping off. Much better than renting at the airport. read more

So I came in to rent a car and I got quoted for a weekly rate plus one day for a grand total of $300.56. When calling anfew days in advance I was informed it would be the same price as long as I bring back the car to the location before they close at 2pm. Upon returning the car I was told I owe 356.50 because I didn't bring the car back at the same time I picked it up. I spoke to the manager on Thursday his name was Brian. I explained what he told my wife and I on the phone. He proceeded to tell me in a condescending tone that he will allow it this time. Ridiculous own your misquote and mistake. Don't sit there and lecture my wife and I about "this one time...and next time it's like this" Unbelievable after the ashtray car they gave me for 2 days. read more

The manager is a thief. Had to report the company for credit card fraud after they made unauthorized charges to my credit card. They kept my credit card number on file for 6 months after I received a loaner vehicle from the local jeep dealership and then gave themselves some money hoping I wouldn't notice the charges! Considering I didn't rent a car from them the charges stood out. Do not do business with them. The explanation I received from the manager was that the jeep dealership owes them money so they decided to charge the jeep customers even though I didn't rent a car from them-the jeep dealership did. read more

I am surprised the wide variation in the reviews here. My insurance company arranged a car for me at this Enterprise office and I had a very good experience with them. They did not have the car upgrade I wanted at first, (a full size SUV), but after a couple of days they called me and had one available. They were friendly, helpful and efficient. read more

If I could give 0 stars, then I would prefer to do this. I will tell every single person on this island to NEVER use Enterprise in Middletown after my experience with them. They are abusive, manipulative, and have LIARS. I was given specific instructions on how to drop off my car, which I confirmed MULTIPLE times with them. When I left it, it was not picked up for 48 hours by them, and was found with a giant dent in the rear. I did not leave the car with this dent. I believe someone else rear ended in the time I dropped it off and Enterprise FAILED to pick it up or one of their employees did it. Their national organization has been just as horrible and has provided the worst customer service and communication of my life. They have charged me for the damage without EVER sending me a letter or contacting me! I have had to call them over and over again and demand literally SOME sort of contact since they are CHARGING ME. Nothing. I needed to get a sofa from Pittsburgh to home, a distance of almost 600 miles each way. I tried U-Ship which was a total fail (driver never showed up). I looked into U-Haul, but I'd need a hitch on my car and the cost was steep. I started looking into rentals and at first I was running into companies who wanted to charge me per mile, and that added up to a ridiculous amount. Then, I thought to try Enterprise, right up the street. What had taken me so long?? They quoted me a reasonable daily rental price with no mileage fee! And gave me a van which was just the right size!! I had a little trouble getting used to the van, because there were no windows on the right side, but I learned to deal with that. The van was solid and the seat was comfortable for all those miles. The folks at Enterprise were accommodating and friendly. They will be my first choice from now on. read more

Was VERY VERY disappointed that we called the location THREE times to be certain that we would have the luxury car that we reserved and paid quit a premium for. When we arrived, (well you know what I am about to say), NO luxury car. It was my 50th birthday and we were celebrating in style about a very expensive cruise. Instead we were given a SUV and no rebate on the cost. The fact is, they wanted to charge us MORE for an upgrade!!!! I was outraged and will never use this location again. Awful experience! They called and confirmed our reservation yet when we arrived there was no rental. They tried to blame it on the prior renter but did nothing to help us get another rental. We actually had to call another rental agency while still at Enterprise to get help. They did not even offer to drive us to that agency a mile down the road. It started off as an ok experience. They did not have the car I reserved for the 24 hours I was renting the car. They offered me an upgrade, which was fine. I reviewed the car quickly with the agent and they sent me on my way. When I got back less than 24 hours later after driving the car to a friends house to spend the night they said I damaged the car. I could hardly see the blemishes the manager showed me and there is no way that I would have noticed them upon receiving the vehicle.The agent took my paperwork from me said they would be in touch with me. Two days later they make a claim against my insurance company and charge my credit card $500 without telling me. I call customer service to speak to somebody and file a complaint and have yet to hear back from someone. I am an Enterprise Plus member and rent vehicles pretty often during travel. NEVER AGAIN. I have never felt so ripped off in my entire life. I will also mention this experience to all others that I know at the base and will not rent from Enterprise ever again. Needed a car for a day on a Saturday--expected to pay a high rate due to the weekend in a resort town. Was happily surprised to get an economy car for $49 all in, taxes, etc. The car was ready and clean when I arrived to pick it up, and the return was orderly. Seems to be a well-run operation with nice people behind the counter. They also offer pickup and dropoff. I will definitely be using Enterprise in Middletown for our future car rentals. read more
