Excitedly we booked a convertible car for this trip six months prior to our travels..... today we were so excited to start our trip, Ubered over to the rental location to pick up our convertible. On arrival no convertible! The owner said it's summer they're hard to get?? You had six months to have a car in place. Obviously this guy takes convertible orders but has no intentions of ever having any on the property (what a scam) informed us we could take a car here and simply drive over to the airport location and swap cars. So if we drove to the airport to switch cars. On arrival the airport Avis are obviously aware of his scam and had no intentions of swapping a jeep for a must and convertible ..... long story short do not deal with this scam of an Avis location, no morals whatsoever, on reaching yelp sadly we are not the first, or I'm sure the last! read more

A nightmare experience. I specifically requested standard suv. She tried to put me in a compact suv which would be too small for my needs. They upgraded me to a minivan "for free." Too big for what I needed but better than too small. Annoyed, but agreed to it. There were no other options. She explained that they aren't given the specific type of car people book, so they never really know. My total when booking was supposed to be $527. When she went to check me out the total was. $793. Unacceptably understaffed and inefficient. Do yourself a favor and avoid this Avis at all costs. We (and many others) had more than a 90-minute wait for a car, despite having a reservation and arriving on time. Our first 45?minutes were spent standing in a slow moving line in the small indoor area. Once we finally made it to the counter, the reso was processed and we were then told the car wasn't ready, it "just needed to be washed", and were then ordered to wait outside in the sun (still a long line behind us in the small indoor waiting area). Only one person working the counter, processing both outbound rentals and returns, shuffling cars around, etc. Hand-written signs throughout the place asking us "to be patient." I hope the business owner gets their act in order, staffs up accordingly and improves operational efficiency. This experience is far below Avis' brand standards. Awesome experience! The paperwork was minimal. No hard pressure to take their insurance. We rented a low mileage, Jeep Rubicon. It ran great and the return was simple. The rental facility is only a mile from the airport but a lot less expensive with no airport fees. The only negative is that their business hours are limited to 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday and 9 am to 12pm on Sundays. Because I'm a local I'm able to work around the limited hours to pick up and return the car. Someone using the airport may not have that luxury and would have to pay the higher airport fees, unfortunately. read more

Eugene Road in Palm Springs. This off-airport independently owned and operated Avis-Budget car rental agency has been our go-to location for two years now, having racked up about a dozen car rentals with them for both business and pleasure. Local to Palm Springs, we rent a car whenever we have to make a longer trip that we would rather not make in our older, less-than-comfortable SUV. This has meant renting either a sedan or SUV from here to make trips ranging from three days to a week to go to Orange County, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and other points north and west. While smaller, we particularly like this location because it is substantially less expensive than renting at the airport - none of those hefty add-on airport fees and taxes. In addition, we always feel that we are being taken good care of by Jay - who runs the office and seems to do everything in the process: he handles the reservation, the paperwork, and lately seems to be the only one cleaning and prepping the cars as well (note to the owners: this good guy needs help!). A consummate professional, Jay has always been super helpful in helping us get the right car for whatever trip we are going to make. He is a pleasure to deal with - even on those days when we might have had to wait a few extra minutes while he waited on other customers. Jay sets the standard for how you hope to be treated in all your day-to-day business dealings. So whether you are local like us or flying in to PSP, I highly recommend this location for your Avis-Budget car rental. I am angry that I did not read the reviews prior to making a reservation at this location. The price and type of the vehicle were my main concern and I prefer a location not at an airport. I needed a certain type of vehicle for a more than 30 day rental and I found the most reasonable rate at this location. I had only rented one other time from Avis - in Italy and had a pleasant experience. This was definitely not pleasant. I telephoned the location three hours prior to picking up the vehicle to double check the type of car I was to receive and was told that it would be available at the time needed. I arrived when I said I would and was told that the car I needed would not be available until the next day and only for 3 days. Unbelievable! No other car that I would have been able to use for 30 days was to be available. I was forced to go to another rental agency and pay $500.00 more than Avis, but was treated far better than this experience. I have been loyal to Enterprise for years and will continue even if the price might be higher. read more

AVOID this location. ZERO stars. Owner/operator Tom Anderson is rude & unprofessional. Rented a car from this location last week & upon arriving Anderson attempted to rent us a car that had huge dents all over & reeked of cigarette smoke. All the cars at this location are obviously of lower quality than a typical car rental facility. After asking to switch out cars because of its condition, Anderson was condescending and disrespectful of my request. Anderson then gave us another car that had scrapes all over, reeked of cigarettes, and had two cigarette burns on the front passenger seat. All of which I made sure to note on the checkout form. Later in the day, a friend of mine went to this location to pick up another rental car. My friend told me that Anderson insulted me and called me "fastidious" to ask for a new car and be detailed about all the dents and scrapes on it. This is absolutely unacceptable. No business owner should ever talk about a customer in this manner. Come to find out, good thing I was overly thorough about the car because of its condition. Upon returning the car, no one from the location comes out and checks out the car. Anderson then refused to print out a receipt and said he would email it to me. Anderson never sent it to me. Instead, I had to call Avis when Anderson charged an additional $17.99 for gas. Anderson snuck in this charge for gas when I specifically told him and showed him my receipt for filling up the car just a couple of blocks from the rental car facility. If he had taken the time to come out to the car and record that it was full this wouldn't have happened. This is exactly why he doesn't print out receipts. He's sneaky and a scam artist. He thinks customers won't notice an additIonal charge to their rental car. Luckily Avis customer service was able to reverse the charge and issue a refund. Days after drop off, I see that the charge was $315. Weird... there was no damages, we cleaned it out and gassed it up. The process of renting was fine, though we were less than delighted with the black Dodge Challenger being the only choice for our drive to and from Palm Springs. 65-year-old retirees, it wasn't quite the stylistic fit. The main hassle was the bill. I was offered insurance and turned it down, and was then given a paper to sign. I assumed it was a denial of insurance. It was the insurance purchase consent form! Shame on me for not reading through it, but I'd made clear I didn't need the insurance. It's possible the agent didn't hear me properly, but I thought we'd communicated fine. We were additionally charged $23 for gas. We were told to return it at 7/8. If 3 gallons fit into the 18.5 gallon capacity tank, it was at 21/25. C'mon. I was charged for a second driver, my husband. He was right there at the rental. Apparently, Avis doesn't charge for spouses. This location did. Lastly, the front-line doesn't seem to have much autonomy there, as upon receiving my objections, it was see-no, hear-no, speak-no, with direction to corporate, where everything got handled just fine. My mom rented a car from the Little Rock Arkansas airport. The car broke down after 4 days. The rental car company left my mother stranded for several days without bringing her another car or picking this one up. Then the vehicle she rented, they finally sent a tow truck at 10pm to pick it up. She requested to cancel the rest of the reservation. But Avis still tried to charge her the full amount. You won't enjoy running for your flight after you return the car and get hit with a much inflated charge, after they run down your clock with lies, somehow iterating through multiple "corrected" totals, and ultimately landing on something like that you brought the car back "late" so they had to charge you for an "extra day". I genuinely wish I could give negative stars. Holy shit, this was the worst. I reserved a 10' truck. When I arrived to pick it up, the truck wouldn't start, so they had to give me a 16' truck. I was driving it to Orange County and back, and the truck died literally as soon as I arrived at my storage unit in Orange County. I called the Budget roadside assistance TWICE, and it took over an hour for a technician to arrive to diagnose the problems. The woman on the phone at roadside assistance was unspeakably rude, and tried to hang up on me several times during the conversation. It then took about 3 hours for the truck to actually get fixed - about an hour of the technician lying under the car and/or dicking around on his cell phone, and then he disappeared for an hour and a half to get the parts he needed, even though he told me there was a shop "right down the street" and he'd be back in 15 minutes. Due to the long wait, I got stuck in crazy rush hour traffic on my way back to Palm Springs, and was unable to return the truck that night, as I had planned. I returned it in the morning, and after filling it up with gas, it promptly died directly in front of the Budget dealership. The front desk guy, Tom, assured me that I would be receiving a 100% refund, and instructed me what to tell the customer service hotline when I called for the refund. When I called customer service, they told me that they could refund me the $15.99 for the truck rental, but not the mileage. I told them Tom had said 100% of the almost $200 I had spent on the car, and customer service told me they'd call him and then call me back. When they did finally call me back (two hours later), they told me that Tom told them he had advised me to ask for a 100% refund - not PROMISED me a 100% refund, which he absolutely did. So he blatantly lied to customer service about the conversation we had had. Customer service offered me at best $100 off my rental, but said they couldn't do any more, as it was his word against mine. Needless to say, I will never be using Budget or Avis for any other rental, ever again. Unbelievable. read more
