Visited Avis Car Sales in Vista to test drive vehicles. Yul was patient and professional, and I appreciated his help during the test drives. I tested two Toyota RAV4s (about 43k and 39k miles) and ran an OBD2 scan on both. Both vehicles showed diagnostic trouble codes. One had multiple codes, including an ABS-related (safety) code, and another showed a "Maintenance Required" indicator. I was told there was no check engine light, but no warning light does not mean there are no underlying issues. Yul mentioned the car could be checked by the shop, but when I spoke with Michael about next steps, the interaction felt dismissive and rushed, and the diagnostic concerns were not clearly addressed. Yul was not the issue. I hope Avis improves transparency and communication, especially when customers raise safety-related diagnostic concerns before purchase. read more

DO NOT BUY A CAR HERE TLDR- sold truck with bad engine and deducted false damages from my deposit Here's my story I will try to keep it short. I purchased a 2022 Toyota Tacoma with 25k miles for $36k, which was the best deal I found online. During the process, I lost contact with my finance agent due to her losing power for a week. I tried to get another finance agent, but no one else would assist me. As I was about to give up, she got her power back, and I purchased my truck. I put 13k as a down payment, which is important. I received the truck and inspected the oil and found metal shavings on the end of the dipstick. I cleaned the dipstick and checked 4 more times. Each time I checked, there was a large amount of metal shavings. I took the truck to my local Toyota dealership and told them I can still return the truck if this is as bad as I think. After I paid for the inspection, the dealership informed me that I should return the truck.The dealership explained that due to the metal shavings in the oil and the lack of maintenance records, it would not be under factory warranty, and the engine would most likely need to be replaced soon. I returned the vehicle and waited for my 13k deposit back. At first I was told that the 13k would be wired back to my account, but then without being notified a check was left at my front door. Upon reviewing the refund check which was supposed to be for $13,000, I discovered it was short $665. I am still in the process of trying to get my $665 back. I called and asked why the check was missing money and they couldn't give me a reason. After a week of waiting, I was then told the truck had dog hair and a scratch on the speaker cover. My dog was never in the truck. I only drove the truck to the local dealership and back which was about 20 miles in total to avoid the 200 mile return policy. I have been trying to get my money back for almost a month now with them saying ''I sent them another email I will call you tomorrow'' and never getting a follow up. They never sent me an initial email saying there was a deduction in refund. Communication has been horrible and asking for a supervisor gets you nowhere. I recommend you go elsewhere if you are trying to buy a vehicle. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. read more

The day that we went, Dale informed me that multiple people called out, but he made sure to move as quickly as possible to get us into our new (used) car. Be careful if you purchase a car from Avis in Vista and finance through them. My name was misspelled by Greg Rosas when he ran my credit even though I had corrected it BEFORE he ran my credit. Now my name on the with Capital One Auto Finance is misspelled and the manager Laura Sievers told me to call Capital One to have it corrected. I understand she couldn't do anything but this problem was created by her people. She was rude in her response was "What do you want me to do?" She not once apologized for what her employee did or acknowledge that they're the ones that screwed up my credit!!!! I had just the night before going into Avis had my car appraised by carmax and Kelly blue book and my car came in at $26,500 but the manager at Avis told me he was appraising it for $23000. Turned right around, went straight to Hertz Sales in Kearny Mesa and they appraised my vehicle at $26,900. We bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee through Avis in Vista and initially worked with Ivan and Mike, who were helpful. When reviewing the bill, we noticed a $599 "optional" paint protection charge we didn't want. Ivan was understanding, but Greg Rosas--whom we hadn't met--abruptly told us it wasn't optional and we could leave if we had a problem. After two hours at the dealership, his rude and dismissive attitude was shocking as we found out he is the GM. He even handed back our trade-in title, essentially asking us to leave. As a pregnant woman, I've never been treated so poorly by someone in management. I've rented from Avis for years, but this experience was incredibly disappointing and unprofessional. As I look at the reviews and see Greg's name pop up for his lack of attention to detail and poor customer service I hope Greg gets some training on what a GM does and maybe a good talking to about his temper when dealing with customers. read more

Informational post only I did not buy a car here rather visited the Dealership to check out a vehicle, which I drove, and walked away with the understanding I would not purchase. Here was my experience: - went to look at a vehicle which looked perfect online because the pictures were great. -when I walked in the salesman was immediately available, and grabbed the keys and allowed me to view the car at will and also take it for a drive - After viewing (before driving it), I was disappointed. Many vendors point out imperfections in both the ad and pictures. Here, I noticed immediately that the car had dents on the bumper, paint repair on the front right side (prior accident?), and rust spots around the vehicle (none of this info was in the pictures). But to be fair, it seemed priced right for the age/milage, which is ultimately why I went in. - Salesman was super nice/honest, in fact, to a fault. He said they are salary employees and no commission and the cars just sell themselves as they price them low just to sell. - I asked about the 100+ point inspection as advertised and if I could review it. He said no, that is not shared. Thus, I came to the personal decision that the 100+ point inspection was meaningless (yet posted on both their website and is also posted, if I recall correctly via signage in the store. The last used car I purchased was from a dealership which shared the information on the inspection, and they also honored the 90 day warranty. That did not appear to be the case here, during my experience. - While starting the car, it (the start) was a bit delayed and he (salesman) said the car may need a new battery. I asked him would that not be in the 100+ point inspection and the salesman did not know/have access to that information. - Within 30 seconds of driving, I realized care was out of alignment. I mentioned this to the salesman and asked him again about the 100+ point inspection. My thought was well If the car was inspected, that is one thing. Yet, were any repairs made? Upon asking again about the inspection, I was told something in the line of... "that information is not shared". - I asked salesman about price and he was adamant, there is zero negotiation. - The salesman told me over 100 people have looked at this vehicle, that he had several upcoming appointments to view it again and that it was the hottest car on their lot. I could not tell if I was being given a line, or, if he was serious. Yet, my loudest thought was in the line of "well possibly I should make the same decision as others who have viewed and not purchased and simply walk away". Ultimately I did walk away, w/o purchasing, because I did not want to purchase a car that I felt needed immediate repairs (battery, alignment at minimum) and decided I'd rather purchase a vehicle and pay a bit more, which does not need repairs. Thus, same price/less hassle...IMO. I post only in hopes this helps others out in determining what their experience may be at this dealership as I know purchasing a vehicle can be time consuming. read more

We found a car that seemed to be a good fit, connected with a salesperson there and filled out the finance information via their website. Upon following up with the salesperson, they were not aware of our application. I followed up again over the next few days via email and phone but got the run around. Do not buy a car here!! They are CROOKS & SCAMMERS!!!! I don't even do yelp reviews, so this just shows how bad my experience here was! If I could give this place 0 stars, I would! To start off, I planned an appointment with Dale to see a car, and drove 3 hours, just for him to sell the car 2 weeks prior to me showing up! He never once emailed me saying he already sold the car! Instead he lied and had me take off work and drive 3 hours, just for the car to not be there. Mind you, the night and morning off he confirmed that the car was still there! When I came in telling them I'm here to see a car with Dale, they lied saying that he wasn't there, when the whole time he was there! The manager came and told me that the car is there and that they just didn't have the keys and he will go and get it, and he had me sitting down for 1 and 30 minutes and when I finally confronted them on why it's taking so long, the manager finally confessed that they don't have the car! When I told the manager that they were being very unprofessional and deceitful, instead of apologizing, he said that I was "threatening them". I don't know how saying someone is being unprofessional is a threat! And then he called me aggressive! Do not buy a car here!! They are liars and scammers!!! Whether morality should be considered in car sales or not is a personal choice. If you answer yes, this is NOT the dealership you want to go to. My family and I were excited to go check out a car that seemed to be fairly priced and in good condition. After taking time off work, and driving an hour we arrive to a car that although was reported as having "No Damage" was significantly damaged throughout the exterior and interior. No way in hell we were buying this car, much less for the ridiculous price they were asking considering all the damage. The woman at the desk, whom I talked to multiple times over the phone, was fully aware of the financial sacrifice of not working that my family took to view this car, and didn't think once to inform us of the damage that was neither documented or disclosed via CarFax, pictures, or verbally. Great price. Great service. Great experience. I was apprehensive about buying a former rental car, for obvious reasons. In my research, though, I learned that Avis maintains their fleet very well and that the abuse inflicted by rental customers are largely cosmetic. Indeed, I picked up a great bargain on a 2019 Pathfinder. There were a few blemishes on the exterior paint (I covered them up with touch-up paint) but the leather was in perfect condition. No issues on the interior. The SUV runs real smooth. Shondell was excellent to work with - bright bubbly personality and a positive attitude. Helped me with all my questions and even drove me around town looking for an open bank. I had a few questions a couple days after the sale and she continue to be just a friendly and cheerful. ZERO STARS!!! I would put 0 if I could. One of the worst dealerships I have ever been to. 1. Spent 3 hours here just to walk out. 2. They false advertise. Their truecar price is different than the one they give you in person. The salesman refused to honor the truecar price (which they have to by law and by partnering with truecar). 3. BEWARE of the BEG fee. This is a "reconditioning fee" that they add onto your price to clean the car and do a fresh oil change. Sorry but that doesn't cost $1K.... 4. They also have a non negotiable paint warranty which cannot be removed from the price.... 5. Their financing for excellent credit is over 6%... 6. They looked at me dumb when I told them I didn't want to pay more than $300 a month for a car priced at 18K. Even though thats where it should be. 7. The manager was supposedly prior military but did nothing but try to sell someone on active duty an overpriced car. Long story short, go buy a new car. You'll pay less. Avis quoted me between 375-400 a month for a used 21 Forte. I ended up getting a BRAND NEW 23 Forte for only 2K more than they were trying to sell the 21 for. read more

I wish I could give negative stars as this place is not deserving of no stars. Seriously it was that bad of an experience and it takes a lot to get me this upset. After having a horrible experience at a car dealership I was happy to learn of no haggle deals with accredited companies such as Avis. I spoke with a few of my friends and family members about moving forward with buying a used rental car and many shared that they had excellent experiences with purchasing used rental cars. That said, I felt really good about moving forward with searching for a used rental car. I found Avis to have the best competitively priced available vehicle (make, model, and year) that I was looking for. The only issue I found with Avis car sales via yelp reviews was a $499 non-negotiable paint fee that is added to every car purchase. I took this into consideration with the price of the vehicle and felt okay with moving forward. So, I submitted an online request to test drive the car and received a call the next morning and scheduled me for an ultimate test drive. She explained the full process to me. The day of my test drive the representative that scheduled my appointment called and explained that the vehicle I was interested in was essentially no longer available. She asked if there was another vehicle that I was interested in, I shared the car information with her. She explained that the vehicle was on a lot and that they were through Avis but essentially a separate entity and she could not provide any information about the vehicle or the dealer. I had to contact the dealer directly. I checked yelp and seen that there were two raving reviews for the dealer, so I moved forward with giving them a call. I was connected with Antonio Sacco who confirmed the vehicle I was interested in was available and on their lot. I explained that I was driving over an hour away to test drive the vehicle. He was accommodating to my request to come in that same day. The location is right off the freeway and easy to access. Upon arrival Antonio was unavailable but met with me within 5 min of my arrival. I don't know how to describe Antonio other than he wasn't mean but he wasn't welcoming either. I figured since it's no haggle maybe he felt he didn't have to be polite and welcoming but I don't know it just seemed like he was present but not pleased to be there type of situation. He asked for my ID and said he would get the keys for the test drive. The car drove smooth and Antonio was very gracious in answering all of my questions. Over the next week I took time to consider the purchase, during which time Antonio had reached out via text several times asking if I was still interested in the vehicle. Ultimately, I made the decision to pull the trigger. This is where things go left. I called Antonio to confirm that the vehicle was still available he said yes. I explained that I would like to test drive the car one more time and then move forward with purchasing it. He said great and I explained that since I was spending almost a $100 to uber to the location that I wanted to make sure that I had everything I needed to drive away with the car today. I shared that I had financing through USAA and that the dealer funding request form was all that needed to be completed by his office for financing to be released. He asked if I could email him a copy of the form. I emailed it to him (Note the form also requires a contract and several other executed documents to be provided prior to funding being released to the dealer, so I felt comfortable). Antonio said he would call me after he reviewed it to let me know if anything else was needed. He didn't call he texted and said that they do not work with USAA, that I had two options, #1) finance through their office or #2) come in with a cashiers check. I was flabbergasted by the text. I called Antonio and asked why they do not work with USAA? He said that is what his Manager told him. That I have the two options. I tried to keep my composure as this all seemed unethical. I explained that I would not be using any other financing as I received a great rate through USAA and they had already done a hard check on my credit. He said, the other option is for them to issue me a cashiers check, I said that if they completed the dealer funding request form that USAA would issue them a check directly. He said no, they will not work with USAA. He checked with his manager again and said the answer was still no. He didn't know why they said no and that he too wanted the sale but couldn't move forward with USAA as my financer. I honestly did not see this coming from AVIS a very reputable company but I am hoping by sharing my story that I save someone else pain of wasting your time with this unethical dealership! read more
