I have just gotten off of a 3 hour flight anticipating waiting 10 minutes for my rental shuttle to AVIS rental from the airport. I have been outside for nearly 45 minutes now, and between my torn knee and this cold weather, myself and many other paying customers are upset. We were told after one shuttle was full that another would come quickly, but judging off of their time value this would be another 45 minutes. I am tired, $600 broker, and confused about this lackluster service. After making it to the kiosk, I have learned that this location is severely overworked and understaffed. There are two attendants who are accountable for nearly 50+ customers. The promise of the preferred line (which I am a member of) was reduced to us waiting 20 more minutes once inside. I realize that this is not an individual issue, but a structural issue. AVIS on Bowery needs to focus on having staff for the entire day, so a travesty like this won't ensue again. read more

We rented a vehicle from Avis LGA for a family road trip- My family was arriving on a flight into LGA so my husband and I thought we could pick up the car and save time the morning of the trip.... What a nightmare! we waited for the airport shuttle, Hertz, Budget, Sixt, Marriot Hotel- Every shuttle except for Avis came. 25 minutes of waiting and we arrived at the hot Avis rental location. No seats for the weary ( I had a back issue that day) no AC on a hot evening , 3 -THREE agents working the counter with 22 people on line to pick up their car rental . I approached the counter and the agent snapped at me saying you cant cut the line. I was approaching them to ask if they could get more agents at the counter... Flew in late to LaGuardia. It took over 20 minutes for an Avis shuttle to show up. Then, once there at Avis, I had to wait in another line. When I finally got my car, no one went over the car with me like an inspection and I had to find it myself in the lot. It was so dirty, obviously it had not been serviced, I brought it back. I had to wait again, I was given another car and it too had not been serviced. I was too exhausted from traveling all day to try for a third a car. On a recent trip to New York and flying in and out of LaGuardia, I rented a vehicle from Avis through Priceline. I was looking for a vehicle that accommodate 6 people with a good amount of luggage and a car seat. A mini van seemed like the way to go and the pricing was pretty reasonable. To get here, you have to catch a shuttle from baggage claim. The office is about a mile from the airport. There was quite a long wait for the shuttle on the day we arrived as well as when I dropped off and needed the shuttle back to the airport. Luckily I was the first one off the shuttle on pick up day or else the wait would've been long to get checked out. Customer service was good at pick up and there was barely any interaction on drop off. I didn't even ever get a receipt after drop off. The vehicle itself was on the older side and had lots of wear and tear. Avis in my experience usually has a newer fleet of vehicles. There was a handful of scratches and dents so I made sure to take lots of pics before riding off the lot. I miss the days when someone would do a walk around with you before leaving. Inside the vehicle was not the standard of clean I am used to with Avis. There was dog hairs all over, smelled like smoke, and the windows were super streaky. When the car idled, it felt like it was going to shut off a few times. In New York traffic, that isn't the most safe feeling to have. At the end of the day, the vehicle did it's job. I have never had bad experiences with Avis, so I'm thinking it's just this location because of how busy it is. Their fleet is huge and I just probably got the one janky vehicle that's been through some adventures. I won't write the company off, but I will look at other companies when flying into New York. read more

Rented a car from Avis at LaGuardia Airport NYC from 5/30 to 6/2 I reserved a Toyota hybrid Prius. Instead I go a piece of junk Dodge Hornet. The car was not properly serviced before renting it to us. We had to only drive 32 miles to Farmingdale Long Island. The gas gauge started to show we had no fuel!!! I had a confirmed reservation and showed up for my car. I was told I was "too old" (I just turned 80, still ride a motorcycle and have an International Driver's License). The agent refused to change the reservation to my 69 year old husband. The contract was 7 pages long and said "maximum age 80" so I was the maximum! THE WORST! I have avis preferred and whether I go early in the morning, mid-day, or later in the day, there is never a car ready for me. NEVER. Additionally, I have been given cars with no gas, low tire pressure, no wiper fluid. Then I always need to wait on line which goes extremely slow and then wait for another 40-45 minutes for cars to go through the washing process, when they knew the car was needed at a specific time. I have also been given cars as complimentary upgrades, but then charged for higher gas rate when they should be absorbing the difference. This location will say you have low gas, even when you show proof at arrival that you picked up a car with low gas. I asked for a receipt and I let the attendant convince me that I showed him enough proof, and that he would take care of it. I was wrong! I received an unnecessary $18 fuel charge. I honestly cannot complain about my experience with this Avis Rent A Car location. Perhaps, I am one of the few lucky ones. ;) Picking up our rental car was pretty fast and stress-free. The older, Black gentleman was very patient and professional. I did not have any issue with the agent, but the couple in front of us . . . phew. Based on the way he handled the rude customer, that agent must have the patience of Job. Although the rental company is a bit away from the main terminals, Avis has a free shuttle service that will take you to the terminals and major bus stops at LGA. read more

Presidents Club member here, and rent from this location frequently. 8 out of 10 times, the service is horrific! Never enough staff! Car is rarely ready for pickup. Takes 10-15 mins to process a customer. If coming outside of regular business hours, plan for a 1-hr wait. Avis should be embarrassed by this location! read more

Disappointed with the return procedure when we arrived. There was no one there to take the car in. After several minutes, someone came out and said, "It's all good. You can go." I asked why they were not checking us out and verifying that we had filled up with gas, etc. The person just said, "It's good to go." I had a hunch something was wrong. Three days later, when we checked, we were overcharged for one day. I usually don't check, but because of the hunch, I checked and had to file a claim for a refund. The car I was given had a pretty good dent, and was dirty. I asked for another and was told no. Windshield wipers were rotten . And rained the whole time we were there . Windshield was was so water spotted couldn't see crap .! All four tires were passed the wear bars . This was my first time using Avis. The app was good and told me I could go straight to my car to pick it up. But then when I hit the button that said "Pick Up Car" it told me I'd have to verify my identity in the "Avis Preferred line." That line had a 45-minute wait, which caused me to be really late to work. When I finally got my car, it had a spilled container of ketchup in the passenger side door. It was hard for me to find where to complain about this in the app, so I was on the phone for 15 minutes before I could talk to anyone.
