I have to say it was an absolute wonderful experience. Linda was heaven-sent! I had to get ther, while in an Uber searching for a place I could rent a car using my debit card. Linda gave us directions on how to get there. Once there, she helped me rent a car, secure a temp EZ Pass and insurance, within record time, in order for me to get to work. On top of that, I left my Better Brella umbrella at the office. Linda called me and assured me that she would hold it for me (which she did, until my rental was over). I would definitely recommend them, and I would use them again if necessary. They were FANTASTIC!! Even the guys who checked my car out and in were nice. S/N: The car was cute and drove well. Usually, we never rent cars coming to New York, because its not like California as to where everyone uses or need a car. But when we spend time in Staten Island, or other parts of the region of the counties, its best we have our own transportation. Empire helped me out on the few days we were in town. Rented a 15 man sprinter van, booked months in advance. Was assured it was as advertised in pictures. When I got the van, the tv didn't work, speakers didn't work, parts of chairs were broken, got a check engine light a few hours into driving. They offered no help over the phone. Was planning on and paid for a "luxury" sprinter van and I got the opposite. After I requested the tv and speakers to be fixed before the trip they said "oh those never work and always break" and offered no discount, that I could only cancel. They made no mention of them being broken in the months prior that I've had booked. Strongly recommend to rent elsewhere! read more

I rarely take the time to write a negative review but this experience was such a nightmare I feel I have to warn potential customers. They never returned my call and then said I did not have a reservation because it was not conformed by phone. Then they added a $400 charge beyond what was on the website. So I canceled. Nope, will not rent from them. Customer service is not customer oriented at all! ... I reserved an SUV online, in advance, to pick up on Sunday at noon, but had some changes in my schedule and needed to find out if (and how) I can re-schedule, and one more question. I drove by their location the day before, on Saturday at 1:10 pm, and decided to stop by and ask for help. To my surprise I was abruptly informed that they are closed (staff was setting the alarm and locking the door), and was told to call tomorrow (on Sunday, the day of pick up). I asked if they could answer two simple questions - the answer was "NO, CALL TOMORROW".. not even "please call tomorrow". Well, I called the next morning, and was told over the phone that I can easily reschedule ONLINE for whatever date I need. Huh, that simple? Okay, I logged on to the reservation, but then thought to shop around for more options. I really did not want to deal with these people again. Guess what? I found much cheaper rate at Budget @ LaGuardia. Rented a full size SUV from them for almost 3 weeks. I had pleasant dealings with Budget's customer service, and have no regrets I walked away from the Enterprise @ Northern Blvd. It would be about $1,500 business for Enterprise... oops, too bad! read more

Absolute WORST customer service experience of my life. I booked a car for a Saturday, pick up at 8 am and drop off in the evening. I booked the car online the Tuesday before the weekend. I receive a confirmation email on Thursday. I come into Empire Saturday morning, and am told that I do not have a car because the weekend requires a two day rental and that they called me at 7:02 AM Wednesday morning to let me know. I checked my call log and showed them that i did not receive a call They offered no consolation or assistance, and I called the general manager of the company about 50 times, only to have no answer. Now how does this make sense? I received a confirmation email with a reservation number, and given a car in the email. They claimed they made a call at 7:02 AM on Wednesday (FYI- they aren't open at this time, they open at 8 AM), yet I got a confirmation email the next day. I even contacted the office Thursday and asked to pre pay for the car, and was told I could pay only in office. All of these factors led me to believe I had a car. The location manager of Long Island City was the most unhelpful person I've ever come across. He made zero effort to figure out getting me a car. Every person I interacted with in this company was shockingly rude. I spoke the bookkeeper of the whole company (resides in Flushing) on the phone of the company and was told there was no two day minimum, and that the reservation wasn't actually confirmed, despite me getting an email with a confirmation number. We ended up not getting a car (after waiting for two hours with no help from the LIC manager) because of the way we were treated. Instead of apologizing to the customer, they essentially made me feel like a liar and that it was my fault that the company did make a concerted effort to call and "officially" confirm my reservation. Overall- terrible system. You can't be sending confirmation emails and claiming you called at 7 am when you're not open. It's not the job of the customer to figure this out when they are getting confirmation emails. Again, the manager in LIC was terribly unhelpful and I couldn't believe that he did nothing to help rectify this situation. I made the effort to shop local and this completely disappointed me. This is the second time I used Empire to rent a van. This time I was taking two kids to college and was afraid I would not have enough room. Ian was AMAZING and helped this panicked mom realize he would have the perfect van for me and he did. I couldn't give him an exact date until we knew the kids were going. My experience with Empire has been phenomenal! I am a travel agent and had a client who needed a large passenger van rental in New York at the last minute. NOBODY had anything available. I was giving up hope, when I called Empire and spoke with Ian--the owner. He was working late, as I figured he does rather frequently and he was able to find a 10-12 passenger van for us. He coordinated all the logistics for picking up and dropping off and it worked beautifully. Very happy clients and very happy travel agent. I usually don't review but my experience here was very good. This was the 2nd time renting from them. First time was scheduled and really good experience. The 2nd time, my movers screwed me so I had to rent a truck last minute. When I came here, they immediately heard my situation and arranged that I would have a truck even though their stock was limited. They moved quickly to get me out the door with everything I needed including a hand truck and dolly. I couldn't have been happier as they didn't need to go the extra mile, but they did. Payment and transaction was smooth and I had no problems with my credit cards. The truck itself was what you would expect, good condition, did the job. Staff were friendly and understanding. Correction, there were only two options offered, which is also legally recorded! Your driver together with your vehicle rear-ended my truck! Police report and all traffic rules point to your driver's fault! First option offered to me by your adjuster was; for you to fix my Mercedes in the back of an alley in a detail garage of your lot. Once I declined, and opted to have it fixed myself, your "adjuster" then gave me option number two. In letterform a payout of 90% was offered claiming that the driver said that I was stopped and discharging a passenger. No were on the report is such information recorded by your Driver. Furthermore the driver that hit me wasn't even the person who leased the car from you. Finally I do have a trip sheet, which indicates the end destination of passenger to be dropped off and it's not anywhere near the point of accident. All these facts indicate that your statement is false and fraudulent! You asked to be contacted and I did. No resolution was offered on your part with in the two-month period. Your "Employees" Humiliated me with there sarcasm! Your company gave me a bunch of around and your team is totally unprofessional! You leave me with no other choice but to litigate. read more

I have never been spoken to with such disregard and disrespect by somebody, and I spoke with not one but two of their associates. Also, they never had the car that I tried to reserve to begin with. My first impulse was to go to Zipcar, who immediately charged my credit card $176 for a Honda Odyssey to take a group of hikers upstate. It was too quick, too easy. But as more hikers started signing up to my trip, I needed something that could accommodate more people. After an "exhaustive" Google search, I called the first 5 results. Out of the 5, only Empire picked up the phone, gave me 300 miles, allowed early pickup and next day drop off - even on Sundays (a HUGE plus for weekend day hiking trips!), excellent customer service, and all for a great price. Day of, I'm at Empire at 7am Saturday, and my 12-passenger van isn't there. I'm about to freak the eff out when the guy asks me if all my hikers are definitely showing up. After a little ego-taming, I said no and admit just 8 hikers are going. He offers me their brand new 2013 white Ford Expedition, which seats 8 and knocks about $100 off my original reservation price. Plus he gives me unlimited miles to boot. I took it. My hikers loved the vehicle. And now, I love Empire. They "get" hikers. Note that the earlier you book, the better. Is there a review lower than 1 star? This is the worst rental car experience I have ever encountered. I made an online reservation for an 8:15pm car pickup. I flew into Newark and landed late (imagine that at ewr) and called for a shuttle to Economy. The woman told me my reservation had been cancelled and I could not rent a car now that it was 8:55pm. Are you kidding me? Why are you still in business with these practices? Bottom line: DO NOT RENT FROM ECONOMY AT EWR. RENT FROM ANY OF THE VENDORS IN THE P2/3 PARKING AREA ACCESSIBLE BY AIRTRAIN. I'm not one to write reviews but this deserves my attention. I was returning our van rental late after hours and had just dropped the key into the nightbox only to discover that I'd lost my wallet. As luck would have it, Ian, the owner arrived at the location on other business. Not only did he open the night box to get the key for the car but was the one to find my wallet hidden down bellow a seat. To top it all, he gave me a ride from Queens to Manhattan! I have rented 15-passenger vans from Empire for our church's summer summer youth and mission trips two years in a row now, and every time I have been very pleased with the customer service I receive from the staff as well as the selection and quality of the vehicles they provide. It is worth coming down to the city from Westchester for this company (although I would not complain if they opened a branch location in Yonkers, White Plains, Peekskill, or anywhere else in Westchester County. There is really nothing comparable to this company up here in the suburbs. Seriously, I cannot find a 15-passenger van to rent *anywhere* up here). Every Columbus Day for the past 3 years, I have done a one day rental of a 14 pass. van for a one day golf event. The first year the vehicle, which I pick up in Floral Park at an affiliated agency, was late and unvacuumed. Fortunately, the owners stood by their product and offered me a discount for the following year. Year 2- no problem. Year 3- van on time, but dirty, only 1/8 full of gas and affiliated location did not have the paperwork, delaying me again. Spoke to Ian, who explained I would be better off coming to the Flushing office for pickup, which is about 1/2 hour away in rush hour traffic. Ian also suggested I consider renting for 2 days instead of 1, as there would be better service. Basically, couldn't help me any further than that. So I guess I rent from somewhere else next year.
