Moving is never easy but I was happy to have chosen Barn Truck. They have trucks of several sizes, affordable prices, and nice staff. The truck was not the newest or nicest to drive, but it did its job. Some blemishes to the experience were: 1. receiving the truck close to E and having to fill it up the tank, but not knowing how much to put in for what I need to get done. For a truck, it seems like there should be a minimum fuel level people should be required to return it at. And 2. Dealing with overnight parking was an added challenge because it takes a lot of research to figure out where you're allowed to park a commercial truck overnight in NYC. Maybe these are burdens that are expected to fall onto the customer, but from an above and beyond service perspective, I think a few more tips or a quick sheet guide to carry along would've again been super helpful during a period time that is already immensely stressful. From a basic moving truck perspective, this was a great choice and made me feel a lot better going with a local business and avoiding some competitors who had horrific reviews. read more

Called several times before picking up my van. Was never told that we needed a NEW YORK license. About a month ago, a peer of mine rented from the exact same place and did not have a New York License and was told to pay a fee for an out of state license. Ultimately, they were given their rental. I have been contemplating writing this review. First off, I do understand that all businesses have to make money. However there is a fine line between making money or taking the advantage of the customer. I am aware that there will be extra charges that will be made to my credit card for the toll use. That is fine, I am willing to pay for that. What I do not understand is the processing fee for each toll use. It is $4 per toll, which is absurd to me since some of the toll is only $1.19. I also have to point out that the person you arranged the paper for us did not mention anything about the "processing fee" for each use. The processing fees (I used it 8 times) topped it with the tolls turned out to be a whopping $75 plus. My questions are why wasn't I informed of these absurd extra charges? Where is the invoice of each toll? I personally had to call in for it. The moral of the story is, do ask for all these hideous hidden fees. Also, do check your bank account regularly so you see the activity. I do believe in good karma, I can just easily call my bank and dispute the charge but I am not going to do that. However if there are any more charges without the invoice I will be sure to do it. I am just going to wait and see how they are going to handle the situation. Convenient and good customer service. I've rented micro-movers from them over the years from the Woodside location, and it has always worked out smoothly. In fact, recently I had to cancel a reservation with them last minute and they were kind enough not to charge me (ordinarily you should give them 24hrs notice to cancel). Nice guys. Extremely unprofessional service. I have used them for years, they have steadily declined in the quality of trucks they use(check engine lights on, tire pressure light on, trucks all around drive like ABSOLUTE CRAP) but I come back, because they are always generally available. This last time, I was disrespected and question by the manager there "SAM" in regards to a license plate that I used on the truck while having it. Claiming its "illegal and suspicious" but won't just call the police or give me any written rule against changing out a plate on his cars. I explained to him that I didn't like his tone, he continues to question me about what I was doing during the time of the rental etc etc. i explained it's not his business, yet he rips my temp plate and tells me he isn't giving it back. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. Sam walks around with an weird attitude and tries to ask way to many questions about why your renting, where you'll be going etc etc. none of that is necessary to rent someone a vehicle. If I go to Africa from queens and back, as long as I can pay for the tolls and mileage, those should be the only things concerning the person I'm renting from. Stay Away. read more

Been renting vans from Barn for years. Today we rented a 16 foot box truck. The radio didn't work and the seat was soaked because the window was left open during the rain. When we tried to speak to Bob about this, my worker was told- " go talk to the kid, I'm not having this conversation, get out!" When I called Barn to speak with Bob I was told he wasn't in today. Then the story changed to that he stepped out. So that's why I'm writing this here. There should be a zero star option, and this business deserves it. They are not honest and lie. On 2/19 I had a rental for elmhurst location that was supposed to open at 730 on Saturday I called after 730 and got the response he's running 10-15 mins late. He never showed and I decided to go to the wood side location, where I was already almost an hour behind schedule I heard a customer call this location and got the same response. He can't even be honest and let people know what's going on. It's sad for a business to operate like that. You waste people's time, but don't care. Then you say ezpass is available and you do a $4 surcharge per use. I'm sure it's in the fine print somewhere, but seriously a shady operation. The value isn't even that that good. I should have just went to CC rental it would have been farther away but at least they are honest. It might be joe or John he's a liar. One of the worst truck rentals I have ever used. First, I filled out an online reservation that I said I would be called in 24 hours and I was never called. Second, they advertised that they clean and sanitized each truck after all reservations. THAT IS A BOLDFACE LIE. The truck I rented was hands down one of the most disgusting trucks I have ever been in. THERE WAS STILL A TWINKIE WRAPPER in the car. I had to wipe the steering wheel with disinfectant because it was so dirty. Thirdly, the Hidden fees. They charged a $4 PROCESSING FEE EACH TIME YOU USE THEIR EZPASS. That is WILD. I ended up spending more than if I did Uhaul rental. Another thing, they only accept cash but have NO problem putting $500 accidentals on your credit card. SHADY!!!! The only reason I'm giving it a one-star is because zero rating isn't an option. read more

I scheduled a rental in person at the office yesterday based on good reviews. But I was not given some important information, so here are some cautions: - Barn will take your credit card for a deposit, but they will not take it for the payment. So you need to bring a check or cash. (That means any additional insurance liability that your credit card company provides might not apply to the rental.) - Because of the uncertainty with the insurance coverage with my credit card (still TBD), I asked if there was any problem to cancel once I got the information from Amex. The rep said no, not a problem. Turns out, there is a $75 fee for cancelling your reservation. - I asked about flexibility on the date (waiting for confirmation with the offload site), and the rep said no problem. Turns out, it is not easy to change the date if something unexpected comes up. I was able to get it done because of our prior conversation, but the "no problem" attitude had evaporated completely. - While clarifying the potential to change dates, I asked if weekend/weekday rentals had different fees (as I have found at U-Haul). Answer: No. - I planned to pick up and return around 8 am for a one-day rental. But the parking rules at the offload site meant I had to push that back to 10 am. Only when I called back to move the date did the rep tell me that all trucks are due back at 8 am no matter what time the vehicle is picked up. Typically, a one-day rental is 24 hrs, starting when the vehicle leaves the lot--NOT a fixed return time no matter when you start the rental. If I had known that, I would not have rented with Barn. - Unlike the big brand rentals, if your return is late at Barn, it is treated as a second day. Most places I've used give you some latitude--up to two hrs--because there can be unexpected traffic, etc. Unfamiliar roads (for commercial plates) mean your timing could be off. - Barn does have 24 hr drop off. But there is a $15 fee for this, if you get back after closing (5 pm or 2 pm). Again, not mentioned when I made the reservation. So far, not a good experience. read more

I came here because I need to rent a cargo van and I was pleased. The renting process was fast and I found it cheaper than other places.

Rented a truck, and all I have to say is they are incompetent (well the people that work there), there are hidden fee's and random charges which they do not inform you from the start. Say that you rent the truck on Sunday (they close at 2PM on Sundays) and you have to park the truck after closing time, well you have to pay Barn $15 to park the car in their lot, shady, that's all I can say, U-Haul is the better option. Lastly, this doesn't include insurance of ~$20 and taxes. read more

I can not for the life of me understand the bad reviews for this place. Myself and two friends have all used Barn Truck Rental in the past year for all of our separate moves and could not have been more pleased! I rented a 10 foot box truck for my move from East Harlem to Brooklyn. The cost was ~$113 (including taxes) + $10 gas, and the $500 deposit was returned back to me within 3 days. There were no hidden fees. The truck was clean and worked perfectly fine. We dropped the truck off after hours with zero issues. We were not required to buy insurance (granted we had our own) as other reviews suggest. The employees who helped me set up my reservation were very helpful and pleasant, as well as the person who helped us when we picked up the truck. I have used Uhaul in the past and this place is 100x better. Would recommend to any family or friends. read more

I rented a van for an out of state move and was hesitant due to the mixed reviews I read on Yelp. I am pleased to say that I had a wonderful experience with Barn Truck Rental! I came here early on a Saturday morning and as I was filing out my agreement one of the workers there pointed out that there was a promotion on their website which made the cents per mileage cheaper for me. They also went out of their way to make sure I got a new van and they wanted me to be safe since I was going such a long distance. The staff was pleasant and friendly! I was so pleased that they helped me save money and was concerned about my safety. The van was indeed new, clean and drove good. There was no issues when I returned the van. They only accept cash or check. Please give them a try and support local business! read more

Beware of this place! I went here thinking I would save a couple of bucks, but boy was I wrong! I went in and asked for pricing on the cars. I was looking for a medium sized van so they recommended the sprinter, which was $99.99 a day with 100 miles included. That didn't sound so bad so that's what decided on. When I went to pay, they asked for a $500 deposit, which hit me as a suprise because the max I've seen for a deposit with other national brand companies was $250. After this, they said that I had to purchase insurance through them. Typically, you can waive the insurance policy and move forward with the insurance the credit card company provides for you when you rent a vehicle. However, they told me that wasn't allowed and that I had to purchase the insurance only through them. If I wasn't already feeling uncomfortable, now I definitely was. My entire payment including tax came out to about $130, which I'll end up paying when I return the van. At this point, I really needed the van to move some things into my new home so I had no choice but to go on with it. They took me outside to show me the van and there was not one place on that van that wasn't damaged. I understand these cars can be in bad shape due to the fact that they are being used to move stuff, but it was in HORRIBLE shape, especially for the price and deposit. I went in the vehicle and the 'check engine' light was on with a couple of other lights, including 'srs brakes' which is obviously not safe! This is not a way to conduct business- ALL vans and trucks should be checked and maintained before given out to rent!! As soon as I drove off, I did a brake test and kept having to hammer the breaks for the van to come to a full stop. To add on to that, the lights inside the vehicle did not work so while we were unloading stuff at night, we couldn't see anything inside the van. AND, the van doors did not lock no matter what I did or how hard I tried to lock them! As a company, this is unacceptable and pretty ironic considering the customer is liable for theft of the van or anything in it. To top all this madness off, when I returned the car, I got hit with the shady business line "sorry, we only accept cash." It's pretty funny that they now only accept cash, but when they wanted a deposit, they had absolutely no problem pulling $500 from my credit card. If I was informed of the "cash only" rule earlier, it wouldn't have been such a problem, but no one even brought that up to me. I didn't have any cash on me, so they used my credit card but told me they had to charge a 5% convenience fee!! How can I not be furious?! Go elsewhere folks! There are a lot of brand name companies that have maintained vehicles and are customer based, so they guarantee customer satisfaction. Don't take chances like I did with a company I've never used before. I thought I could save a couple of bucks with this company, but I actually spent more than I did had I used a different company. read more

I was a bit apprehensive about renting a truck from this place because of the negative reviews but this was the only place that had a truck of a size that I wanted for my move so I chose to go ahead anyways and take my chances. My experience here was awesome. They had the truck I reserved ready when I arrived. Although the truck had close 100,000 miles on it, it ran well and did everything that was supposed to do. That just showed how much they care they put in the maintenance of their fleet. The price was reasonable and there were no hidden charges. Although I would try to rent a truck somewhere closer next time, I would have no issues coming back here again or recommending this place to my friends and family. read more

I had no problems renting a City Sprinter from Barn Truck. I've used them before and quite satisfied both times.

The place has a real down-home feel, I rented here twice last month and was satisfied both times. The first time U-haul flaked out on my reservation, and Barn came through for me last second. When I returned the vehicle, I reserved the one I needed two weeks later, and Barn had it ready to go on the morning I needed it. I paid a base rate for the trucks which was a really cheap rate, but in addition, there was a mandatory insurance. Even with the insurance though, the price was a bit cheaper than what I have paid at other places in the past. Also, Barn hooked it up with 100 free miles both times, which for me (only moving locally) was really useful. My only complaint was that one of the trucks I rented was a bit banged up. It was purely aesthetic though, both trucks I rented drove fine. Overall, I would certainly recommend the place. Renting felt like a personal experience. read more

Periodically my business needs some additional equipment and barn comes through every time. From cargo vans to heavy duty pickups with trailers barn is always there with there fleet to support us. There are few others that have as diverse a fleet and none offer the high level of customer service that barn delivers. As an example, a driver of ours got a flat tire (it was his fault) and Ben came out to assist in changing it for him. Who does that? When I looked through Barn Truck Rental's website, I found a form that could be filled out in order to receive a quote by email. I submitted my information on the form, waited 24 hours and had not heard anything. I decided to call the office and ask for a quote. When I called the first time, Joe answered. I explained my plans for moving and asked if I could reserve a truck starting at 3:00 pm. He explained that they closed at 6:00 pm and that I could rent the truck and bring it back by 8:00 am the next morning. Then, he told me he had to put me on hold, where I waited for 15 minutes before finally hanging up. I went online to their website and filled out another form, this one was to reserve the moving truck. The receipt of the form said I would receive an email shortly with confirmation. When I hadn't received anything after an hour, I called back. Joe answered again, and when I asked him about picking up a truck, he told me that they weren't going to reserve a truck for me because they open at 7:00 am and that's when I should plan to get it. I asked if I would be able to pick up the truck in the afternoon, before closing hours, and he said, again, that they open at 7:00 am. Then he stated that they wouldn't reserve a truck for me. When I began to ask about different options, he put me on hold without giving me any warning that he was going to do so. After waiting for over 10 minutes, I finally hung up. I called back and asked to speak to a supervisor, and Joe asked me what company I was calling with. I asked, again, to speak to a manager, and he said, "You can't call in without presenting yourself. What company are you with?" I explained I was a customer and would like to speak with a supervisor, and he said that a manager would call me back shortly. I still have not heard back.
