So, I went to rent a car yesterday and I got my reservation wrong (wrong dates). Then I went to the wrong counter. I went to AVIS instead of where I was supposed to go. Unfortunately a horrible -- and dangerous -- experience. I leased a car for two days. On the second day, while I was driving on a busy thoroughfare during lunch hour, the engine light came on abruptly and the engine switched off. Fortunately, I was on a decline and was able to turn the car into a turning lane. I phoned Avis's emergency services, reported the problem, and was told I would get a text of when to expect the tow; the agent apprised me the wait range would be long but that the tow truck would come much sooner. I was also told I would receive a link for a complimentary Uber. After waiting over four hours -- in 16-degree weather and with snow falling -- I called my own ride and made a dash to the airport for my flight. During my wait, I tried repeatedly to reach a human at Avis or their emergency services. I reached one, once, and discovered the tow truck dispatcher was in another state. Incredible. I cannot give less than 1. Avis at Omaha Eppley field needs a new leasing agent. the agent informed me he haa been here 27 years. I was early for my rental car, I asked if there was any grace period regarding timing to return. He stated no. My last rental car Hertz had a grace period. He stepped over the counter and proceeded to walk up and down the rental car kiosks asking the other rental car agents (interrupting 1 in conversation with a customer) to purposely prove me wrong. Then informed me they had 264 full size cars (my rental size) returning by 1400 (my reservation time), but would offer me an upgrade with additional cost. I get it, I'm early. But to be belligerent, putting on a show in front of people to prove me wrong was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. After 27 years at this, you think he would have some , or better (the best) customer service versus challenging and he'll bend to prove a customer wrong. Unfortunately, I've already paid for the car, so I'll sit and wait until my time, for my car. I would not rent from Avis ... at least in Omaha. I will not make the mistake again. got to the airport and no one was in the building,,,had to go to the garage where it was 17 degrees and stand out there for at least 30 minutes doing the things that were done on line the car was already paid for PERIOD. After freezing out there they told me where my car was ,,,it was 35 slots to the left...so MIND YOU they brought me to the rental place in a wheelchair ...and not one person there offered to bring the car to the place where I was standing...poor customer service. I was told it would be $866 for 10 days. Dropped it off on day 7 and was charged $807. Apparently $97 was for a half tank of gas. It cost me $30 to fill the whole tank. Not worth it and will be using a different company next time. read more

Everything went great until I returned the vehicle full of fuel and returned just as I recieved it.. I was sent the reciept and it said they charged me 100 dollars for fuel.. They tried to say the tank held 36 gallons and no there is not a Ford f150 that holds 36 gallon of gas unless it's modified.. If I didn't know any better they would have gotten away with it, but I know a lot about vehicles.. The truck we rented only holds 23 to max 30 gallons.. After calling sitting on hold for 45 min they finally answered and did adjust our reciept because they realized their mistake, why only after something was said?? Absolutely horrible experience for multiple reasons. We rented an SUV in case we hit bad weather when we flew in, and there is no option to downgrade, only upgrade. But they offered to give us a smaller car at the same rate.... HAHA. Our flight was delayed when we were leaving, so we got to the rental car drop off about 1 hour late, and we were charge a whole extra day... Not a late fee, no, an additional $70 for that one hour we were late.. Because our flight was delayed... Absolute rip off, I called their hotline, and they were not pleasant. I wrote them an email, and they pretty much said TOO BAD SO SAD, IT'S IN THE 20 PAGE RENTAL AGREEMENT THAT YOU SIGNED. I may as well have kept the car another 23 hours since I already paid for it. My best friend got Covid-19 while in possession of one of Avis cars. Her family didn't realize she had a rental when she was hospitalized and Avis never called to say the rental was past due. When we found out about it we cleaned and sanitized the vehicle before promptly returning it with a letter explaining the situation. We obviously expected she would be charged for the rental along with a fee for the additional time it was out past the return date. We didn't expect $1341 force posted to her debit. She was gravely ill a rental car was the last thing anyone was concerned with. She is still very sick but on the mend. She is out of work for the foreseeable future and is now completely broke. I get that Avis is a business and the car needs to be paid for when it's not on their lot.... but considering the circumstances... you'd think they'd give her a little break. read more

Over-priced, slow service, horrible new policies. Thee worst rental car experience I've ever had. I was charged an extra $62 for brining the car back 12 minutes late, 7 of which was waiting for their check-in person. So, technically 5 minutes, and that was because of all the construction around the area. I will give this place 1-Star because at least the check-in guy saiit was a dumb new policy and told me to go check inside with a manager. So, I proceed to go over to the Avis office and was greeted by twenty plus angry stares, these were the people waiting in line for the two workers at the desk. Any Avis location is awful facilitating any of their car sales with a third party financing company. So many disconnections and lack of communication will leave you spending more than you planned on. Avis will rip you off and default any responsibility to the third party financing company. The financing company also rips you off. Never , ever again. read more

I was charged triple what I was supposedly quoted. The agent in Omaha offered an upgrade did not say additional cost - I declined insurance - I agreed to fill the car myself. The agent also paraphrased each portion on the screen and reiterated what I agreed to NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES were mentioned. When I saw the final bill on my cc I wrote Avis and received the following: The acceptance or declination of products and services is entirely up to the customer. We cannot confirm verbal conversations and can only rely on the written, signed rental agreement. I was VERY impressed with this AVIS location. I'm an AVIS First member (has changed names) and this was my first time using the service. I was advised to go outside since I was a first member and could skip the airport kiosk lines. My family lives about 3 hours away in Iowa so I fly in from San Diego a few times a year. I stay in Omaha for a few nights visiting friends and then drive home for a bit. I reserved a compact car because of the last minute flight and costs, I knew I was going to be offered an upgrade because of my status. I asked if they had a jetta on the lot, he stated they did not but asked what I drive at home and said he could give me a Prius since I drive a Volt. I was beyond thrilled, as was my grandma who had not yet ridden in an electric car and was excited to hear about it and see that it's so silent ;p So I received a hybrid car (which is normally a special car rate) for no extra uncharge and was handed the keys and on my way. Return was as easy as pulling in and handing the keys off to the agent who met me at the return spot. I've not had similar experiences with the local branches in San Diego and am sad to say I now use my elite status with Hertz or National more often than AVIS but this is in NO way due to this location- they exceeded my expectations and beyond! read more

Go elsewhere or you may be charged a $250 cleaning fee almost 2 months after your return (without a peep or word fairly identifying any problem by Avis rep when returned 2 months earlier). Take pics when you BOTH rent and then return vehicle and do not trust them to tell you if there is any issue when you return it. HORRIBLE!!!! It seems the desk agents are taught to be as deceptive and shady as possible. Fees are not clear up front, tried to charge me for upgrade when they didn't have the car I reserved. The car they offered was DESTROYED with hail damage. Their answer "don't worry, you won't be charged for the damage." Forget it! This business was so deceiving. I ordered a rental car through priceline, insurance and all. I was charged 188 dollars from Avis for insurance I already had and for a car upgrade. It was not explained that this was going to be extra on top of my charges from priceline. So here I sit with an extra 188 dollar bill because they did not explain what they were doing and conned me into things I did not want to purchase. And don't expect the Avis company to help you out. They refuse to look into it anymore or refund me. Cesar was very rude on the phone telling me I am not responsible. What a terrible company. WOW, this location has only two stars. I can see why.....Here's my review: 1a) ensure that agents put you in the actual reservation that you have (not a previous/canceled reservation), 1b) after the renter/me notices the error ($60 higher for a 3-day rental), ensure the agents know how to correct the error w/out the time-consuming ordeal of a manager having to deal with it, 2) put people in cars that don't reek of cigarette smell (this can be prevented by the cleaning crew who checked in the previous rental), (other than the accuracy in #3, the agents that checked me out at the gate, with the 2nd car, were great), 3) when I eventually checked out, change the time of the rental, so that renters can actually have X-numbers of days of rental that is being paid for, not minus X-number of hours because of Avis' errors (see #1 and 2 above), 4) ensure cars have proper alignment (the car that I ended up having had a mild misalignment issue, which made for a less-than-enjoyable ride (from OMA to FSD) and back... I don't think I'll be dealing with Avis again; rather, the other guys that let you simply pick out your car and then you check out as you drive out... Hey Avis, I hope you are looking at these reviews, so that you can fix yourself....a series of such reviews are a reflection on the company... read more

I am very disappointed in my experience with Avis at Eppley Airfield. The attendant tried charging me for gas when I returned the car even though I had filled the tank in full. Avis filled a claim saying that there was 'major' damage to the car when the car was in perfect condition. I thought the phone call was a hoax at first when they told me there was a claim for 'major' damage. I rent cars frequently and this is the worst service I have received. Best customer service I've received from a rental car agency. I mistakenly arrived at the "Preferred" pickup counter as opposed to the counter for regular customers. Since I'm just a regular guy, I knew right away I was in the wrong spot. The nice lady at the counter, Brandy, I believe, politely pointed out that the regular customer pick up counter was in another part of the airport but without hesitating, she quickly and cheerfully took care of me. Yes, the signage could be better at directing customers to the appropriate counters but that's not the counter personnel's fault. This was my first time to Nebraska and now I'm convinced that Hawaii isn't the only state with the Aloha Spirit! read more

My husband and I flew into Omaha NE because my younger sister passed away and had reserved a car and we had problems with are bank card. This happen on 1/19/19. Angelina was are Angel. We were stranded. She got us a hotel room and a shuttle back to the airport and got us a shuttle to the hotel. My husband and I are so grateful for her. My husband and I flew in from San Diego. Picking up the car was a breeze, I was able to bypass the counter and pickup my rental in the garage with preferred membership. The car assigned to me apparently last driven half way across the country and had minor mechanical issues. There was a slight screeching sound emanating from the front of the car when driving at at high speeds. It was a decent place to get a rental car, but nothing to rave about. read more

Stinky cars. Landed in Omaha late (2am 12/27/18). Rented a car from Avis and it smelled of cigarette smoke. We were unable to report the concern and request a new car since the attendant left for the evening while we were unlocking the car. Drove for 7 days with windows down in 10 degree weather. Complained of the smell upon returning the car at the airport, that no one could help us at time of pick up and asked how they would resolve the issue, manager on site claimed he could not smell anything. Do not rent from Avis! I rented a car last weekend in Omaha since I was in town for military drill. I asked for the cheapest, basic car. The sales person (Sarah) told me if I signed up for Avis Preferred that I would be able to earn points and upgrades. I verified that this wasn't a credit card or anything that would cost me and she assured me it wasn't. She also said she would be able to upgrade me to a Volkswagen Passat. Their advertised price for this rental (5 days) is less than $250 for the whole trip (minus taxes and their extra charges). I declined the insurance as well. After I returned the car I noticed a $1600 charge from them to my credit card. I have been on the phone with the local office and corporate. The best explanation I got was that I agreed to a $255/day daily rate (even though I thought that was the trip total and it's advertised as such). And since I agreed to that severely inflated price that I had to pay it. I did NOT agree to that rate and it wasn't stated clearly when all I signed was a signature pad next to the register. I hope Avis doesn't treat all military members like this and I will be looking into my next steps if this isn't resolved. read more

I have booked my luxury rental car at Omaha Airport on last Friday (07/13/2018). I took the car and felt it has weird smell and initially I thought it would have been washed recently and hence the smell and thought it would go away. During the drive I started feeling so annoyed with the smell and started giving me a headache. So called the customer care after an hour of rental pick up and requested them to check if I can exchange it to a different rental in Des Moines. The agent doesn't know what she needs to do in this case and put me on hold and came back and said I have to go back and pick my rental in the same place. This will ruin my entire weekend trip and then I moved on with my trip. The smell went bad and couldn't tolerate. So went to Des Moines Airport on my way and requested an exchange. They did not even care to dwell the details of my request, simply said they do not even have single car in Des Moines airport for the exchange. So, I ended up buying the car scent at a station literally sprayed more then half of the spray to keep the smell in control for a while and finished my trip with a stinky smell. Even though I booked luxury car AVIS made me to spend my weekend trip on a stinky car and completely made my long waited reunion trip a mess. Things happen I understand but there is no proper response or I couldn't reach the rental company directly at all. Very Bad Customer Experience. If AVIS really wish to serve the customers in a good way, I would have expected a phone call by now requesting my issues. The DSM airport also logged a complaint about it (at least I asked to and I am pretty sure no AVIS rental agent I interacted during this trip were trustworthy). Here is my return experience!! Went and explained the same as below. One of the rep went to the car and agreed that the car has a smell but he said it is the leather of the car that smells. I own a leather interior car but never had any stinky smell on it. The manager was so tricky and said the system doesn't work to look up the account and then said the rental has a Costco coupon so she cant do anything. I don't know what she meant but I have not even heard a "sorry" from them. This is the worst ever experience I have had. Lastly, to say I paid for the luxury rental pricing (around $236 for 3 days) but what I got is not even an economy. Also to note, the car was not even a 2018 model I would say it is 2016 or 2017. I have rented here once or twice a month for years, and it is barely ok but I am a preferred member going for points. Dirty cars, cars not quite filled with gas, cars that smell like cigarette smoke, cars without electric windows or doors (like you would expect at a low rent place). At least they are speedy and I always thought the staff was nice, but now I am very angry. On one of my frequent rentals I had my chihuahua (8 lb) in the back seat, out of her carrier for 15 minutes. Now this is a little short haired dog that fits under the seat in front of me on the plane. She did not do anything but shed a little, and on one side of one back seat. No fluids of any kind. THEY CHARGED ME $250 !!! When I complained I got this: "Charges for cleaning vehicles that are in such poor condition that the vehicle must be sent out for detailing will be charged in proportion to the level of cleaning that is needed. This includes, but is not limited to, vehicles returned with food stains on the seats, dog (or animal) hair that cannot be removed through normal vacuuming of the car, excessive odor, smoke odor, and cigarette burns." You HAVE to be kidding me! It would have taken maybe 30 seconds of vacuuming. And I ALWAYS have food smeared on the seats of the cars they give me. Often I have to stop at a gas station and clean the windshield so I can see. I won't be back and I was a good customer..... my husband is a chairman club (top tier) and rents several times a month, they lost his business too. Bleh. read more

Woman at airport Avis was rude, inattentive and tried to upsell me on all the insurance and then acted like I was lying to her when I told her I had great full coverage insurance from USAA. I would never recommend renting a car from this location. I have rented here several times due to my company using Avis as a preferred vendor. Each time the cars are dirty and poorly serviced. They don't fill the car totally up which requires you to add more upon return. My current rental is a car with 17200 miles and runs like crap. The battery died and they wouldn't drive the 8 minutes to come jump start it without charging me. They did reach out after a bad survey review, however crickets on this issue. I recently rented a car from the Avis location at the Omaha airport. It was late at night and they put me in some kind of little Hyundai that probably would have been fine, except that the moment I sat in the car, I noticed a strong odor of cigarette smoke. Rather than make a big scene, I simply stopped at the Avis booth inside the garage and told them to make a note on my contract that the car reeks of horrible cigarette smoke. I did not want to face the dreaded $250 fine associated with smoking in one of their cars, so I just asked them to make a note and figured that the smell would dissipate if I left the windows open on the drive to the hotel. The next morning, however, I realized that there was no fixin' this odor. Taking time out of my busy day, I drove all the way back to the airport and made my way to the Avis booth. I politely explained the situation to the gentleman who was waiting in the return lane and he was generally cordial in return. He instructed me to talk to the lady in the Avis booth and when I did so, the lady acted rather annoyed with the situation. She was not the least bit excited about moving me to another car, but I told her that I was not going to drive that smoke-infested Hyundai for the next 9 days in Omaha. Still visibly annoyed, the lady reluctantly agreed to put me in another vehicle, but the new vehicle was significantly crappier than the first one. Smaller, fewer features, and generally rinky-dink in nature. The car felt cheap. I did not demand an upgrade, but I think proper customer service would dictate that Avis should have offered a complimentary upgrade for my trouble. They did not do so. For that, and for the fact that they dared put the original smelly car on the lot, I'm giving them only a single star. read more

Our company has used Avis for years. After checking the car back in, I forgot my jacket in the back seat. They found the jacket, I provided my credit card to have it sent to my office. One month later, still nothing. Worse, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE picks up any phone at this location. I will do what I can to get the manager of this location fired. I have never in my life encountered a more dysfunctional company. What if I had a real problem? What if the car had broken or in some way I actually needed customer service? I own my company and this experience has made me come to the conclusion that Avis is no longer the company they use to be and thus, no one in my company will ever use Avis again. read more

There is no 0 star option, even though that's better than what they deserve. This location on 20th Street in downtown Omaha was a joke to say the least! My husband and I came home to visit my family for the first time in years and decided to go with AVIS because they were the cheapest. In this instance we definitely got what we paid for, everything from the initial greeting, the car(s)-yes we went through 2 cars- to the final billing process. Jesus, the manager of this location, is a sleeze and a conartist. I was overcharged, for something that wasn't my doing, weeks after the rental car was returned and even after the final bill was sent to me. There was no communication of the charges, whatsoever! When I called to ask what the charges were for, he couldn't give me a straight story, and when asked for documentation/proof of the "damages" to the car, he couldn't provide them. I spent almost 45 minutes on the phone with the "corporate office" and ended up with nothing more than a promise to look into the matter. Think twice about renting from this location! If you want to be overcharged, financially exploited, and experience awful customer service, this is your rental car company!! read more
