Terrible Service!!! I am a President's Club Member. That doesn't matter at AVIS AGS. During Masters week, the Super Bowl of golf, they weren't prepared. Only one person checking people in, lack of cars and terrible service. Me and many others had to wait more than 1-hour to get our cars. Really??? Apparently if you reserve a vehicle through the call center (which only happened because employees refused to answer phone at location), the location does not have to honor it! This was NOT briefed during the conversation while making the reservation and charging my card. Then the rude female at the counter couldn't even get off her personal phone to help me. This is absolutely one of the worst experiences I've had with avis. This location is rude to the customers. It doesn't matter if you make a reservation or not you still will have to wait an hour. The only thing that changes from making one to not making one is that you are guaranteed a car some people don't get one...or at least that's what the man behind the counter stated. I understand being busy and having a shortage of something but this should be disclose somewhere on their website. First off we reserved a Van over 2 months ago for a long trip to Albuquerque, NM. When we arrived on Sunday after driving 1 hour were told no van was available until the next day. So we started our trip a day late. On the way back we stopped in Oklahoma City for dinner. The way the tire was positioned it caught my eye that the entire middle part of the tire was balding and also chunks of the tire were missing. We were fortunate enough to be close to a hotel and airport to do an exchange. Having lost an entire night of driving we asked the Augusta office where we were to return the vehicle if they could waive the late fee if we didn't make it back by 8:00 am. They refused to agree and when my wife was explaining why and what happened the manager became extremely rude and started talking over her, like a bully. This office and the people that work there are useless and should be avoided at all cost. When I arrived for my reservation (Payless, part of Avis) at the airport, I was told it would be over 2 hour wait for a car. I tax'd to an off airport site and got a car there. Dropped car off at the airport on 8 Feb no one at the counter so put key in express box and here we are a week later and the contract has not been closed out. My wife was traveling to Augusta, GA and her flight was severely delayed. I called to let the rental company we had booked with know, and they said they would not be open. So I called Avis and they told me that they would be open, and to guarantee she had a car, I should go online and pre-pay. They assured me that if I pre-paid than the car would be there. She reached the airport, and NO car. And, they refused to give her an immediate refund. They charged her the FULL $315 for the rental AND $300 hold. So $615 on her credit card yet NO car. She even got an e-mail saying the cancelled rental WAS NOT REFUNDABLE. How is that possible when THEY DIDN'T HAVE A CAR! What about the interest that is going to hit her credit card? The Augusta Avis Airport location has the WORST customer service PERIOD & Thanks to this very insensitive Representative that Avis THOUGHT was a good candidate to represent them! We arrive for our RESERVED VEHICLE (reserved over a week ago) only to find out they have NO VEHICLES! it's understandable honestly for this location to NEVER DELIVER, but they would normally, as a courtesy see if any of the other locations in the area could fulfill there broken commitment, but no, Karen (as she refused to give her name) threatened to call the police because we were not happy at the poor level of customer service she displayed! Car was ready, but not clean on the inside. Floor was dirty, no vacuumed. Console and cupholder were sticky from old soda or something. Upon access to the car, inside of car was dirty and the last person left an old sticky soft drink 8n cupholder. Coincidentally, a staff person parked a car next to mine. I asked him if they had a rag to clean out the cupholder. I was told to go back into the airport to get a towel out of the bathroom and clean it myself. SMH. Went to pick up two vans that had been paid for in full at 10pm. I was 15 minutes away when I received a "courtesy" call letting me know there were no vans. Mind you this reservation has been paid for since May. I am LIVID that at no time during the day did anyone attempt to to contact me so I could make other arrangements. Nor did they attempt to see if another location had a vehicle so we have 14 people stranded. Had they called EARLIER i could have taken care of finding an alternative means of transportation. The customer service is poor and perfunctory. We waited to pick up a rental which was reserved for 11am. We arrived on site at 1115 and did not receive the rental until 1230. The reason the representative stated was "the car car needed to be washed." We only received this information after asking is there something wrong with our reservation after staying there for 15 minutes. The representative with the piss poor attitude rolled her eyes and said "excuse me" as if we were bothering her. When we finally received the car and were able to inspect it, besides the water droplets there was no other sign the car had been cleaned. (See below pics) trash in vehicle to include a smashed taillight. The representative that brought the car ensured to stop to pick up lunch as we were asked oh so unpoliteley to wait! Bugs all over front bumper and windshield, finger prints on the outside and inside of car. Clearly the time it took to "clean" was less then the time it took the representative to pick up lunch. I reserved a rental from National Rental car but when I arrived they had overbooked, thus no rental. I went to the Avis counter and Dwayne went above a beyond to assist me. I did not have a reservation with Avis but he took the time to check rentals and found me a car for the weekend! I want to thank him for his exceptional service. The mamager Mr. Costas, was completely useless and nonchalant about the service failure! He said a truckload of vehicles would be in within THREE HOURS!!! Not even an apology. NOTHING. He actually said if I had prepaid he could have refunded my money! Wow that was great!! I get my money back for the car you don't have!!! The contact center was even worse. I was transferred to two reps who did absolutely nothing but offer to change the location of my pickup! So I can drive somewhere else to find no vehicle!!! Sucked in the worst way. Made a reservation for a rental suv 3 months prior to our vacation. Showed up to get vehicle and was told no cars but I could have an open bed truck I took it as we were supposed to be getting on the road. Got 4 hours down the road and trk had major mechanical issues including loss of air conditioning. 90 degrees out. After many calls told to 'stop by' airport and change it out. At airport the rep said we were supposed to have an suv I told her we had packed extra due to size of truck couldn't we have upgrade since they wasted 4 hours of our vacation time with their non maintenanced trk. Nope. The rep said she could do nothing. We crammed everything in the Nissan rogue. Supposed to have a Toyota rav4. Pull away from airport and lights start coming on staying tires going flat. We spent the rest of our vacation PAYING to put air in the rotten tires. We reported it to the return agent. He just shrugged. With the insurance and our special rate our 8 day rental cost nearly $1500 Quite a lot for SO MUCH TROUBLE AND ATTITUDE!!!!!!! Never again. read more

They didn't have a car when I arrived and had to wait 30 min. They were about to give me one that was just returned when one finally was cleaned. Left. Gas tank was not full. Got 30 minutes away to realize AC was not working. Multiple calls. 2 commitments to exchange our rental for one with working AC. No one ever called back even though they said I would be getting a call. Twice. Perfect storm of wrongs. Bad experience. I hope this is a one off occurrence. read more

We were leaving for our scheduled trip for the start of summer break and we did not get the van required for the vacation. Absolutely crooked! Who sells a young man insurance on a car that is more than what the rental cost is? My son thought he was signing for the total car rental amount, (which had been already charged). It was ADDITIONAL insurance of more than the car rental. The insurance cost was almost $500 for a medium sized car for one WEEK! There should be more regulation of the insurance sold on car rentals! I travel often and routinely rent cars, so this is nothing new to me. I had a car reservation for roughly $330 to pick up when I landed at AGS. It was late at night and the woman at the counter was very helpful. As we walked through the usual process she asked about upgrading and adding insurance, which I declined. It was late, my eyes were straining without my contacts in. The lady handed me my paperwork to initial and was nice enough to circle where my initials were needed. I was happily on my way Upon returning my car, I get the receipt for more than $500 in added services and things that I explicitly declined, such as insurance. I mentioned it to the lady who said there is no manager in, but that he will have no problem taking care of it if I contact him on that Monday, which I did. I emailed the manager, and after 2 days of not hearing a response, I followed up with a second email asking for a reply. He finally replied, said he has been busy moving and would reply asap to my dispute. 6 days later I had still not heard back, so I emailed again asking for a reply and he just said "we have signed documents that say you wanted the extra services, there is nothing I can do" It is clear, seeing as this is the second review on this page dealing with fraudulent charges, that this is common practice for this company. After I filed a dispute with Avis through their home webpage, I was again deflected with the claim that they had my signature and there was nothing they could do. I will make sure to avoid renting a car through Avis and their subsidiary company Payless. I will happily take my money and business to their competitor. read more

I had to rent a car one-way from Augusta GA Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina because my airlline reservation was cancelled and I needed to catch a later flight. The agent at the Avis counter said it would be $50 for the car rental and $150 for the drop off fee. When I got to Charlotte there was another $200 tacked on in miscellaneous fees. The agent had also put down the destination as Charleston, South Carolina! (There are no flight to Charleston, SC from Augusta). Still fighting with Avis to have it corrected. read more

I booked a rental for a specific SUV type 6.5 weeks in advance. I shopped around for the best deal and chose to go with Avis. We are a military family and travel often, so we use a lot of rentals. I normally use Hertz, but decided to give Avis a chance this time. Never again. Again, I reserved this car almost 2 months in advance. We needed it for a month, because we are shipping ours from Oahu. They charged my credit card immediately, which was fine since I chose "pay now" for the better deal. $2,090 later. My husband and I flew in to Augusta with our 3 young children. We had a very rough flight, my oldest daughter was covered in vomit, and we still had a 15 hour drive to our destination. All we wanted to do was pick up our rental, change clothes, and begin driving to our destination to clean up and rest properly. We arrived ON TIME and were told "Sorry we have no SUVs available. All we have is a 12 passenger van. But if you want to wait an hour an SUV is due back then" Obviously, we are angry. Since we reserved a car 2 months in advance for it to not even be available. Whatever, we decided to wait the hour. The hour passes and still nothing had come back and not even an update from the employees. At this point, we just want to go get food and coffee after traveling for so long with sick & tired babies. We asked to take the 12 passenger van and trade it out at the next Avis location that has an SUV. They allowed us to do that. I then called EVERY Avis from Augusta all the way to Richmond Virginia, and nobody had any SUVs in the size we need. (I have panic attacks while driving and wasn't comfortable in the 12 passenger. - hence why we booked an SUV similar to what I drive on a daily basis) We received NO apologies or any compensation from the employees or company for this mishap. I'm extremely upset and will not be using Avis again. Maybe if we hadn't been charged the two thousand dollars already I wouldn't have been so upset. But for a service I paid that much money for, I damn well expect the vehicle that I reserved to be available for me. read more

This place has no concern for people time. I waited 2 hour and 29 minutes for a car I reserved a week in advance. Yet the manager Mark Marcus was very unconcern with the wait. We missed the services we flew 624 miles (wearing a freaking mask). I understand I did rent from priceline so I penned them a letter...which is as following.. I am writing in regards to the reservation number above from Priceline. I purchase this reservation on July 24, 2020 along with airfare. When I arrived in Augusta Georgia at 11:45am I proceeded to the rental counter and encounter the associate Lisa Williams. Ms. Williams asked me for my name, driver license and method of pay, she then went into the computer for a while then kindly excused her self-stating she had to contact her manager. I asked was there a problem with my document she assured me there was nothing wrong on my side. Ms. Williams walked to the room behind her and called her manager. When Ms. Williams returned she notified me that the SUV that was reserved was not at the facility and offered me another car between a Dodge Grand Caravan or a Chevy Transverse. I ask to speak with the manager myself to see if there was a possible that we can get the Chevy Suburban due to amount of people and luggage we had. I spoke with a Marcus Marks who told me that the truck was new and it was coming from Atlanta and that it needed to get the plate from the DMV. Mr. Marks stated that the plates were supposed to be in on Wednesday 7/29, Thursday7/30, and Friday 7/31 by 2pm he stated that I could wait for the vehicle or take one of the ones they have on the lot. I signed the contract for the Chevy Transverse and we were just not fitting so I go back and talked to Ms. Williams and she said that the Dodge Caravan was ready but our luggage didn't fit into the van. I went back to get the Transverse and we were going to hold some of the luggage on our laps because we were already late for the family viewing at the funeral home. Ms. Williams calls me back because she got a phone call that the reserved vehicle was on its way in 5 minutes so we came back into the rental area of the airport. I waited another 45 min for the car that wasn't the car that I reserved. Ms. Williams tell me that they have an Expedition Max and they are pulling up and we can go. When the Expedition Max pulls up a very unfriendly rude lady gets out and says "THIS IS NOT YOUR CAR IT'S GOING TO ATLANTA". By now we have been in this airport for 2 hours waiting to get a car. A guy pulls up in another Expedition and he just pass by as we ask is this our car and proceed to Budget comes back out and get into the car and goes into the parking lot. He is putting a plate on and then he went to wash the car. I proceed to Ms. Williams who then calls the gentleman and say that we were waiting on that car so he shows up after 29 minutes. We had been traveling since 5am cst and to stay in the airport to get a car for another 2 hours was not acceptable. There is no possible way it should have taken us 2 hours and 29 minutes to get a vehicle from Avis considering it was not what I order. I do not feel that I am subject to the full rental amount. Due to the stress, anguish and delay of travel. I know you are just the renting partner but I just felt it was necessary to let you know about the companies you are doing business with. Your reservation is worthless with this company! So had a 9:30 am reservation and an hour before I get a call telling me that they were sorry we don't have a suburban. I asked do you have something else that my family can use for the trip we need to leave within 2 hours. Nope, a smaller SUV! Never offered a discount for the smaller SUV just the manager stating that they have one and do I want it, I ask if he could give 15 minutes to see if I could find a large one nearby but he said he couldn't hold it. I had a reservation with Payless in the airport, but I was late picking up. They said they had no cars left. I asked if Avis had any, since they use the same counter. I was told no cars were available for Avis either. I had to Uber to my location. Once I arrived, I got online to find a rental car. The Avis web site showed cars were available at the airport location for same day rental. I called the Avis number to verify and was told the airport location definitely had cars available for same-day rental. I guess the people at the desk just didn't feel like doing their jobs that day. I won't try Avis ever again. read more
