Worst experience of my life. Set reservation 2 days ago for 9am pickup. I arrive at 845 was told I am 5th in line. 1 hour & 21 minutes later they still have no car. The man who helped me left the desk & walked around avoiding us for 30 additional minutes. I have now missed my appointment in Atlanta & have to pay out of pocket for missing it. They staff at the desk is unavailable & unapologetic to their fails. I will never in Life use this company or recommend it to anybody. The lack of concern for customer issues is beyond me. I patiently wait my hour then I ask you to cancel it I have to go...you then tell me I PROMISE I your car in 15 mins. Then you disappear! Stay away from this specific brach. The website says one thing but the physical location does not align. I was supposed to have a 7a.m. pick up. I got here at 630a.m to be ready. Paid an extra $50 for a lyft to get here. And I was given a stupid excuse that it was because I made my reservation at 2a.m. in the morning. Instead the manager Eric could have just apologized and understood this was a shitty situation. He was rude. Grumpy. Wouldn't look me in the eye at first. I had to wait in plain sight to make sure I could see what was going on. Who knows if he would have been spiteful and given my turn away. He came out from around the counter when i addressed how stupid his excuse was. What for? Are you trying to intimidate me sir? Because i challenged your dumb excuse. No cars anywhere else to rent. Terrible experience. Jennifer lied to me about return time for a rental and I got charged for it by the next person. I told both of them what I had been told and Jennifer basically called me a liar. Had no interest in correcting her mistake. Then, I call corporate and BBB. Get emails from "executive customer service" that sends me robotic copied and pasted responses on how rates are charged, totally ignoring the fact that I was lied to. The only relief I got was knowing that I'm not the only person to be ripped by this company. I disputed the charge with my bank and got it back. I've left reviews all over BBB, Facebook, Yelp, etc. so that this doesn't happen to anyone else again. Hertz, Thrifty and Dollar (all the same company) do not honor SIGNED agreements. I reserved a car for Wednesday march 16 2021, when i went I was told that they did not have a car and reschedule me for the next day. My husband went to pick up the car as I was at work and had to wait for 5 hours before they got him a car. OK we put up with it since it was close to master's week although we thought their planning was lacking. we rented an SUV for one week. No one told us that he was the only one allowed to drive it, not when I reserved it or when he picked it up. 1 week later, since we needed to car for an additional 3 days, I went to the airport to extend the rental and the lady at the counter told me that it would be an additional 201. I asker her to explained how she got to that number since it was supposed to be 47$ for additional day and she told me ax and fees. I agreed to that quote. When she handed me my receipt it was almost double the initial cost at 820 as she charged me for 400$. i asked how could the cost double for 3 days specially after she just told me 201. she told me it was because she added additional driver retroactively and for the 3 days ahead at $12/day. she also added roadside assistance that we did not need since we have it with primary car insurance. I explained that If they had told us about these extra cost when we picked up the car, we would have rented with another company since there were at the same cost but allow spouses to drive but she did not care. I even told her it would be fair to add it going forward now I had been told but not retroactively. I called thrifty customer service for help but the could not help since the location is privately owned. The next day, I called the manager to try to reach an agreement since I did not think i was treated fairly and she was even worse, unapologetic and uncooperative. she told me I was welcome to bring the car back early but there was nothing she could do. And that is what I did and then went to Enterprise for a replacement car. I rent cars monthly for at least 1-2 weeks due to my business and this was the worse experience at that airport. Please do yourself a favor and do not rent with thrifty and Dollar (same owner). There is a reason they mostly have 1 start reviews. read more

Dear Thrifty, AUGUSTA, GA - You have the most DISGUSTING customer service/experience I have ever been witness to. I am going to make it my personal mission to make sure that no one EVER uses your company again. The experience my girlfriend was put through and how we've been treated throughout our entire rental can't be described as anything less than DISGUSTING, UNPROFESSIONAL, DEPLORABLE, WORTHLESS and any other negative word someone can use to describe the HORRIBLE treatment of one human being to another. Last I checked, the customer PAYS you to provide a service. I beg that anyone who reads this use ENTERPRISE, HERTZ, AVIS, any company OTHER THAN THRIFTY. Where should I start...Thrifty popularly advertises that they allow the use of debit cards, however, they don't advertise a $15 per day fee... Upon arrival, my girlfriend was told she could not use her debit card without proof of insurance, otherwise, would need to use a major credit card. Fine. She calls me, I add her to my insurance. By the time she returned to the counter, the employee cancelled her reservation and gave away her rental. I checked my phone, I was on with the insurance company (Progressive, phenomenal guest service, kudos) for 8 minutes. SO WITHIN 10 MINUTES, THRIFTY CANCELLED HER RESERVATION AND GAVE AWAY HER CAR stating she was not "qualified" for her reservation. 10 MINUTES! NOW, being a "qualified" customer and 2 HOURS of waiting for a car, they did my 5'6", 100 lbs girlfriend a favor and gave her a Dodge Ram 1500. Which, was on the lot the entire 2 hours they kept her waiting. With my girlfriend in tears, late to work, driving a car she can't begin to handle properly, I naturally call Thrifty to complain and try to calmly work out a solution. Customer Service, Brenda to be specific, was extremely helpful and accommodating. She spoke with JENNIFER (not so helpful or accommodating) about getting the pickup swapped out for a different car. We were told be would receive a call by 12 midnight that night, apologies all around for the inconvenience, and would be given a new car. NO CALL. NO CALL the next day, NO CALL the following day. So out of patience (36 hours after we were told we would be receiving a call) I call back... After explaining what happened to Brenda in customer service, she contacts JENNIFER, again. They make arrangements for the car to be swapped out, however, at this point, its so late in the day, we can't swap it out with my girlfriend's work schedule. Today, I call customer service again, explain why we couldn't make arrangements to swap out the car and put in a request to do so today and if we could extend our rental an extra day - ideally at Thrifty's expense due to inconvenience and for paying for a rental that was barely used because it could barely be driven. Once again, BRENDA, was extremely helpful in contacting JENNIFER and putting in the request. JENNIFER, calls me looking for my girlfriend. I explain the situation and immediately she begins arguing with me. Explaining that she would not make any accommodations for us for our inconvenience, that we were lucky to receive a vehicle at all since we cancelled our reservation and that we had best return the truck with a full tank of gas. WE CANCELLED OUR RESERVATION??? I continued to explain the situation to which JENNIFER could barely be bothered to listen or to not talk over me, sorry for wasting your time JENNIFER. I explained that I would contact the BBB, Augusta Chamber of Commerce, Thrifty Corporate, etc. to explain my frustration and her terrible business practice. Just like the Seinfeld episode - "You know how to take the reservation, but you don't know how to hold the reservation, and that really is the most important part of the reservation, the holding." They brought in a new fleet for 2015 and that impressed me. They can check you out a little faster now,I was very impressed. They try to sell some insurance and medical coverage that you really don't need unless you have no car insurance or you have a basic policy that will not cover you in the rental car.Counter desk service still needs improvement.Alamo,National and Avis are still my top 3 picks but if you need and want to used a debit card,this is for you.Also go to car rental websits on car rentals from just about all rental for discounts on pricing like www.carrentals.com they give great discounts. read more

You might think bad things happen to other people and not you - YOU ARE WRONG - just don't go there it is not worth few less bucks - go to literally any other company - this is a joke and they shouldn't be in the business of controlling people's time. 1) I wanted to pick a midsize from Augusta airport - I was told there's only one Dodge Charger left- I took the upsell because I needed a car for my interviews (looks like this is a trick they play on everyone) 2) I asked about full coverage insurance so I don't have to worry - the receptionist gave me the (premium package) for 40$ daily which was expensive but I didn't argue - I paid 225$ for two nights in advance 3) next morning at 8 AM battery was dead - I called roadside assistance and spent approximately 3.5 hours collectively on hold throughout numerous phone calls with people who just hang up on me after 35 minutes on hold - apparently my reservation number doesn't check because it's a (private licensing location) - and apparently this is all recorded 4) I had to uber to all my interviews which were in remote locations totaling 95$ of transportation 5) finally at 5 PM someone decent enough was able to help me out after 50 minutes on hold - she said she can send a car to jumpstart my car - she said my premium didn't cover roadside assistance!! so I will have to pay 75$. I agreed 6) I got a phone call right back saying that jumpstarting my car will be in 2.5 hours! I had an interview at that time so I couldn't wait 7) since I wasn't around I asked her to send someone to tow the car and terminate my contract. this happened 8) I tried calling the office to make sure you got the car back - no answer for 3 consecutive hours from 7 PM - 10 PM 9) on my last day in Augusta I went to the airport (uber of course) and found the employee (her name was Vanessa) blaming me (while on the phone with her supervisor) for not realizing that roadside assistance is not covered/ saying she's not sure if the dead battery is my fault / and she's saying she can't locate the care just yet. I had a plane to catch 10) When I asked for a refund they said basically not gonna happen and that they have to locate the car first and that this might be my fault the battery was dead after I parked it overnight. 11) their twitter customer service basically told me they can't do anything since it's a private license location - they didn't even reply to my follow up message 12) I ended up paying 225$ for a car I didn't use - and honestly I have never been humiliated like this in my life. 13) how do they sleep at night is beyond me. read more

Terrible experience. We made A reservation for 1030 one week prior to the date we needed to pick up the vehicle. we showed up at 930 on the day of the reservation. My husbands ID would not scan so we drove home to get mine And notified them that we would be back in time for our appointment. We arrived at 1020. I was in line by 1025 I waited in line for 30 Minutes to be told our car was given away. What a waste of time but I am thankful because after reading some other reviews about extra charges and other issues. I think we dodged a bullet. I reserved a car on Saturday arrive and am told there's none available return Sunday and get charged double because the rates had changed. I tell the lady at the desk I need to return the car Tuesday at 5 am not told of any additional charges caused by that not lining up with my pick up time. Get a call today telling me I'm late dropping off around 12 and would be charged an additional fee. Was not listened to over the phone told that the car not being there Saturday was my fault for expecting one within the hour. Terrible customer service. Got charged extra fees once at the airport. I'm the one who made the reservation and was planning to pay for the car rental. When asked who would be driving, we flipped a coin and said it would be my travel partner (This is my first time renting a car). Big mistake. At the end of the exchange, the rep said they were charging me for the added driver fee of 12 per day. I didn't realize there would be a fee for having my partner drive, so I told her I would just drive. The rep said it was too late, they were adding the fee (she hadn't charged my card yet). I have nothing but bad things to say about Thrifty Rental Car in Augusta, Ga. I recently traveled to Augusta for business and had rented a car from Thrifty. Unfortunately, due to bad weather my flight was delayed by 1/2 hour. Instead of waiting for the plane to land and ensure that I got my rental car, the Agent (a Ms. Angie) left prior to my flight landing and closed the Thrifty office. When I landed, I discovered that most of the other Rental Car agents had stayed when Thrifty had left. I spoke with Thrifty on the phone and would have been stranded at the Airport until 8am if I had not been saved by the National Rental Car agent who not only stayed and took care of her customers but also helped me get a car so I wasn't stranded there overnight. Moving forward, I will never rent from Thrifty at Augusta EVER again and probably will move all of my business from thrifty to National read more

So I had to change my flight from noon to earlier flight at 5:30am. I purposely left Columbus South Carolina at 2am to get to airport area early and gas up. Unfortunately an unforeseen circumstance which was a car wreck had blocked the exit ramp from I-20 to 520 and I had to sit behind a police car and two wreckers for over an hour. I would have missed my flight if I tried to find a near gas station. So I just parked and dropped keys off. I went as far as to call the thrifty office at the airport and spoke with Jennifer n and she was rude and nasty. I explained to her I had all intentions to refill the tank and if she could just charge me the 2.34 a gallon instead of the 9.99 per gallon she said that's falsifying records. I kept explaining that an accident cause a delay. She said I should have left earlier. I then asked if I could get a number for corporate and she said doesn't matter she's the manager and it's independently owned. I have always used enterprise and thought let's try thrifty out. Now I know why I been seeing a lot of bad reviews. Jennifer was rude, unprofessional and I don't know how she can be the manager of a reputable company. I will be taking my business somewhere else. Not even worth 1 star, but Yelp won't let me give any less. Let's start out by saying I made a reservation for a mid size car over a month ago with a total of $250. I arrive at the car rental location and am 3rd in line. After 2.5 hours and $200+ more I ended up with a Dodge Ram because that's all they had. The truck was dirty when we picked it up and customer service was terrible. Upon return of the vehicle we were told we had to top off the gas even though it was on full and bring a receipt or they would charge us $8.09 per gallon. Then, after complying with their request, we had to walk back out to the car to obtain ending mileage. Overall, horrible experience. I've rented cars all over the country from many different companies and have NEVER had so many problems. Go with another rental car company if you fly into Augusta airport. read more

Thrifty at the Augusta airport has now made unauthorized charges to my credit card twice since my rental with them during Thanksgiving week after I prepaid in full almost $800 for my rental. They charged without our permission last week $900 and then again today for over $400. They are using the credit card info they have on file to continuously charge my credit card without permission because instead of giving me unlimited mileage as my reservation stated, they want to charge by the mile when I drop off my vehicle which gave me an outstanding balance of nearly $1400. This is like me taking a patient's credit card info to take their copay and then when they don't pay their surgery or office visit bill that they are disputing, I just go into my files, retrieve the patient's credit card info from their last transaction and without permission charge their card for any outstanding balances. Crooks! This is the WORST treatment I have ever had. It's unethical and illegal. I'm contacting the Attorney General and the news stations tomorrow! read more

BEWARE!!!! Thrifty may be one of the least expensive car rental companies, but beware on outrageous "additional fees" that are not clearly detailed in the rental contract. I was charged a $250 cleaning for beach sand left in the rental by the Augusta, GA airport location. I reviewed the contract and a $250 cleaning fee amount or any maximum cleaning fee amount was not stated in the rental contract. I pleaded and tried to negotiate a fee reduction with the manager, but she would not compromise and she was very rude. In addition, the site manager for that location neglected to follow up with me. Their customer service was absolutely horrible. So I contacted corporate customer service, provided documents and photos, the customer service rep was even surprised at the excessive cleaning fee amount for sand. She stated that a $250 cleaning fee is typically only charged for smoking in the vehicle, because that requires shampooing the interior. Nevertheless, after corporate reviewed my case, my request was rejected. I learned that all Thrifty locations are not corporate locations and are individually franchised, including the Augusta location I rented from, and corporate has little control over their location and fees. So BEWARE OF HIDDEN FEES and return all rentals completely clean and spotless! (Below is the email detailing my story to the manager and corporate) ************************************************************************ Dan, I rented a vehicle from Thrifty on July 1 through July 4. I returned the rental at approximately 7:25pm on a full tank with no damage to the vehicle. However, I did not sweep/vacuum the beach sand throughout the vehicle. I was under the impression that the rental would be cleaned or detailed. Because I was unaware of the extent of the cleaning fees, I did not remove the sand to ensure I returned the vehicle on time. Then at 8:57pm I received a phone call for Jennifer stating that I would be charge a $200 cleaning fee due the sand. I live in the Atlanta area, so by that time was over an hour and a half away from the rental location. However, my father lives in Augusta, so I asked if he could clean out the rental on my behalf, because I was exhausted after travelling for almost 8 hrs. My request was immediately denied. Jennifer stated the he was not on the contract and could not clean the rental. I explained that my father would not leave the lot and he would clean the vehicle on the premises. Jennifer told me that she would allow me to come back, rent the vehicle for another, and go clean rental or pay the $200 cleaning free. But I was too far out to turnaround. So I then asked if I could rent the vehicle for another day and add my father as an additional driver, so that he can come clean the vehicle. Again I was told no and that I would have to be there to add a driver. I continued to ask Jennifer for a little leniency to allow my father to clean or to reduce the cleaning fee a little, but she argued that the rental was absolutely disgusting and on my only option was to come back to clean it myself or pay the $200 fee. I reviewed the contract and there is no clearly defined minimum or maximum amount for cleaning fees, so there is not limit on cleaning fees. I am willing to pay a cleaning fee, but I feel that $200 is too excessive for the clean up of a little sand. But again, had I been made a aware of the extent of the cleaning fees (outside of smoke and pet hair), I would have taken extra precaution in cleaning the rental. I have rented from Thrifty on several occasions and I have never returned a vehicle damaged or in poor condition, so I ask that you please remove or reduce the cleaning fee. I had a VERY UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE at your August International Airport location. Ms. Jennifer Thomas, Manager, treated myself with extreme disrespect and a level of rudeness I felt was uncalled for towards anyone. My reservations for a rental car were not established by my government travel department. Unfortunately, every single rental car desk indicated they had no cars available. When I finally made it down to the last rental car desk, Thrifty, there were 2 signs up which stated "Cars Available". I wanted to double check and asked the clerk, Ms Thomas, if they had any available cars. She said "yes" but said she needed to work with a gentleman standing behind me since he already had a reservation and appeared to have already spoken with her prior to me being there. While I was waiting, I went online to travelocity.com to establish a car rental so she could easily pull up my information and preferred car. When I was fianlly called to the counter, Ms. Thomas indicated that she only one F-150 truck available for $288 for the dates I requested. My reservation was for a Small SUV for $187. I asked if I could get the lower rate since they apparently did not have the car available and she said no. She said if she gave me the lower rate for the truck, it would be perceived as illegal. I then told her I would just take the truck at the higher rate. She said she could o nothing for me since I had the reservation. I told her I could cancel the reservation just as quickly as I made it and she told m she still couldn't allow me to rent the truck because I "went behind her back and made a reservation". She further proceeded to tell me that she was the only one willing to help me and now she won't. She did offer to place me on a waiting list until a car that matched the small SUV that I had reserved. Ma'am or Sir, her attitude was atrocious. As a traveler in need, she clearly had an unsubstantiated issue with me. I can only assume that my military patches on my computer bag, which had my Bronze Star patch, appeared to offend her. I am only making a guess and can offer no truth to this. However, her attitude was completely unsolicited by myself and was completely unwanted. I was completely stranded by her actions and attitude. I was able to take a $25 Uber to a local rental car dealer. Once I had made these arrangements, I did walk by and inform her that I was going to place a complaint as a result of her actions. She did, at that time, offer to let me take a rental car that was expected in a few hours, but I refused since I had made other arrangements. I am appalled and would like to know what Thrifty is going to do to deter this type of action towards their customers. I do not believe for a minute that this sort of treatment is allowed or wanted by the owners of the Thrifty Rental Car organization. Thank You for your time in this matter. I booked a minivan through expedia with this company and the girl just lied to me and said she didn't see my reservations. I asked her could she pull it up by my confirmation or itinerary number and she said no. She asked me to hold on. She had me on hold for about 7 mins. I can hear her and another guy in the background laughing and talking. I kept yelling hello until eventually she muted the phone without saying anything to me. But what really upset me was that I wasn't told that my car couldn't be parked in the space where the rental was parked. The Representatives indicated the car could be left in the lot. The rep Jennifer was talking to another rep who wasn't working that particular day but telling him he could come in whenever he was off his (military) job. When I got back on Monday ( 8/2/19 ) to return the rental and get my car, it was gone. So I went inside and the same rep was there and when I asked about my car she went to the back and said there was a slip where my car had been towed. She had also put a paper in a frame on the desk stating personal cars can't be left in the Thrifty rows or they would be towed. This was not there when I rented got the rental. I was unable to get my car until the next morning, it cost me $255.00. When I returned the rental on Tuesday morning there was a different rep and I explained to her why I had been there on Sunday evening to find my car had been towed. She then said I was the reason that sign had been posted on the counter. I knew I hadn't seen it when I rented the car but Jennifer acted as though it had been there the whole time. Thrifty employees should be more specific about it being ok to leave your car where the rental cars are parked during the initial rental process. Horrible experience, I was going to visit a 88yr old great aunt so, I reserved a 4 dr Maxima or like vehicle to drive us around in while there visiting. I got to Thrifty to pick up my "reserved" car only to find out that they ONLY had a RAM Truck, they did not have one other vehicle on the lot. I had no choice regardless of my reservation, so, I took it not realizing just how tall it is and it practically required a step ladder to reach the seat. My great aunt who has had knee surgeries had to be lifted up into the vehicle the first night going out to dinner. Needless to say, we didn't drive it the rest of the visit other than going back to the airport. I called the day after I got back home to see if they could do something after the fact, they gave me the run around, I called main number explained my situation only to be transferred several times, calling Augusta airport location the phone rang and rang when they did answer they transferred me back to the corporate office customer service, who said that I had to speak with the manager at Thrifty. Needless to say, a week later and I did finally speak to the manager at Augusta, Jennifer N. who was very rude and refused to accommodate me in anyway, she is very unhelpful and rudel.
