Fun fact....a reservation does not actually reserve a car from avis......never again will i use this company. When you call to verify the reservation, they tell you "yes sir, the car is waiting for you"......when you get there, ***poof*** no cars. "We called but you didn't answer" .....really? What time? No missed calls, no voice mail. ........We can give you an electric car"........i did not ask for an electric car. Im going on a road trip and dont want to be inconvenienced by the many stops and long charge times. Hence renting a GAS POWERED car. They would not discount the electric car if i DID take it. Told them to cancel, and the unhappy person said "whatever" as i walked out. I called about 15min later to confim the cancelation and speak with a manager, and she hung up on me. I called corporate and she did NOT cancel the reservation. Watva piss poor way to run a company. read more

I made a reservation to pick up a vehicle at the New Haven location thier they told me that they have no rental vehicles for uber. Then I call thier to make another reservation at the Hartford location the guy tells me they have a vehicle waiting for me. When I get to Hartford the lady at the front desk tells me they have no vehicles for uber rental . So I call agian and they tell me they will have rental vehicles tomorrow Sunday 3/3. So this morning before I leave my home I call avis to confirm my rental is ready for me,they tell me that the car is ready for me to pick it up. What a delightful experience! Sometimes in life, you need to be forced to take a time out to breathe, to remind yourself that we don't need to rush through so many activities. If you need such a break, try renting a car from this location. I enjoyed the opportunity to spend so much quality time (nearly 2 hours) with all the other customers (as many as 10 at one point) from all over the country who found themselves wondering whether they'd meet their deadlines or whether their reservation would be respected or even whether their payment would be processed. The mystery of it was so fun! We had a lovely scenic view of the neighboring truck stop. The waiting room was cleverly designed to challenge your bladder and not distract you with artwork or television noise...naturally promoting interaction between customers. The mystery was further enhanced by a lack of signage letting customers know what they could expect. It was so fun to see some customers find out their form of payment would not be accepted...oh, the surprise! But the fun didn't stop there, despite having a reservation for a specific vehicle type, I was presented with a completely different type of vehicle! And that's not all, I was benefitted the perk of not having to worry about how much gas I returned the vehicle with because it was already on empty. Sage advice was given before I left: drive straight to the gas station. Kudos to management who provided growth opportunity for their one employee by making him perform multiple roles without any help and having him try to stay cool under pressure during these processes. Beware: Avis is Running a Scam - Horrible Experience, Rude Staff, and Unjust Charges! This was, by far, the most infuriating experience I've ever had with a car rental company. Avis gave us a car that absolutely reeked of marijuana. My children were vomiting and nauseous the entire drive, and I was struggling to even keep control of the vehicle--it was completely unsafe to operate. When I reported this, the agent had the nerve to accuse my family, including my minor children, of smoking weed in the car! Are you kidding me? I asked for the manager, and somehow, the situation got even worse. The manager was beyond rude, showed zero interest in fixing the issue, and then had the audacity to push through a $450 charge for something we never did! On top of that, they overcharged us for returning the car late, even though we returned it on time. This company is running a total scam, accusing customers and ripping them off while treating them like garbage. The government needs to shut this place down immediately. This was an absolutely horrific experience. Avoid Avis at all costs and make sure everyone knows how they operate! read more

Do not rent from this location. I was charged a one way fee for a vehicle I returned to the same airport (Hartford Bradley) but they are saying was returned to JFK airport. That was not the case. They refuse to wave the one way charge even though their information is correct. Logistically speaking it is impossible to return the car the same day that they said I picked it up and dropped it off within an hour and they refuse to check the cameras. read more

Horrible location. Only one person is ever working and she's doing all the desk rental stuff, answering phones, bringing the cars around, and cleaning/vacuuming the cars in between. Absolute nightmare wait. Cars also aren't very clean. read more

I do so much business with Avis and spend so much money with them. i spoke to one of their employees on the telephone and they told me that when I arrived there that there would be a new vehicle ready to go that I can trade my old one out for a new one. I get there and the man is taking a customer and tells me they are closed. they put me back in the same rental that I came with so I drove over an hour for no reason. they doubled the price of the same rental. I had it for a month and it was a thousand every other time I rented but now all the sudden I have to pay a thousand for two weeks. they were very rude and their customer service skills sucked. I will never bring any business back there. read more
